Ashlee Simpson’s next LP is due in November, and though boyfriend Pete Wentz has denied that he’s worked on the album outright, it seems the emo scenster’s influence is making its way onto the record all the same. There’s a dancey track floating around the Web that’s rumored to be included on the as-yet-untitled album that fans are calling “Get Away with Murder” and “I Get Away with It,” which features a cameo from Gym Class Heroes frontman Travis McCoy (whose band is signed to Wentz’s Decaydance Records). On the song, Simpson sings about a monkey on her back — an interesting metaphor considering Wentz’s penchant for using small simians as fashion accessories at last year’s Video Music Awards and this year’s Kerrang! Awards.
A second track, “Black and Light,” Simpson allegedly co-wrote with Victoria Asher a.k.a. Vicky T, the keytarist of Cobra Starship (signees of Wentz’s Decaydance Records). Rumor had it Wentz’s bandmate/scene-producer-extraordionaire Patrick Stump played on the song, but today MTV News reported that wasn’t the case. You can still listen to the track and guess if Simpson was involved here. Stay tuned to see if Joe Simpson lets his more musically inclined daughter lose herself in the scene …
