• A Malawian official is set to visit Madonna in early September to evaluate whether she and her husband will be able to adopt David Banda. The proceedings hit a snag last month after the Malawian government denied the welfare services representative permission to travel due to suspicion he had asked the singer to pay for his transportation; the rep denied the accusations.

• While Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo finish the next Gnarls Barkley album, Danger Mouse has kept busy producing records for British acts Shortwave Set and Martina Topley-Bird, and is currently in the studio with Ohio blues-rock duo the Black Keys.

• Following the release of last week’s bloody photos, Amy Winehouse’s father-in-law has asked the singer’s fans to stop buying her records until she seeks treatment for drug addiction. Winehouse’s own father, however, says boycotting her music is pointless, and that the pair “are going to reach rock bottom.”

• A wannabe Paul McCartney or Joni Mitchell, disgruntled at having his music rejected by Starbucks Corp. for sale in its stores, decided to bring his music to the shops himself. Singer DaVido performed in more than two hundred Starbucks, documenting his performances and inevitable ejections in a YouTube video.

• Ashlee Simpson has confirmed her next album will hit stores in November, but no word on whether the aformentioned collaboration with the Cure’s Robert Smith — or any duets with boyfriend Pete Wentz — will manifest.
