Any news about Killers albums is good news for bloggers. Last summer, while the world geared up for the October release of Sam’s Town, frontman Brandon Flowers picked fights with the entire genre of emo, Panic! At the Disco and Pete Wentz, dispensed advice to Thom Yorke, apologized to the world, discovered Bruce Springsteen, and called Sam’s Town “one of the best albums in the past twenty years.” But what’s this we hear? Killers bassist Mark Stoermer tells MTV News that the band is working on a few new songs for a third album, but plans to keep their collective mouth shut to avoid … well, all of the aforementioned incidents. Say it ain’t so!
Rock Daily has already been hip to the album of B-sides the band is also compiling, which is due later this fall, but here’s more info: “It’s for the completists,” Stoermer said, explaining that the album is inspired by similar LPs from the Nineties like Oasis‘ The Masterplan, Smashing Pumpkins‘ Pisces Iscariot, and Nirvana’s Incesticide (so, wait, the Killers are comparing themselves to Nirvana!? Stop the presses!) The collection will also feature two or three never-before-recorded songs written during the Sam’s Town sessions, one of which is a duet with Lou Reed. “It’s a huge deal and an honor. We’ve never done a duet before, and Brandon had the idea to ask Lou if he would sing on it, since we felt his voice would go really well on it.”
