Well said, artful dodger. And you should be remarkably proud of your daughter’s music taste. I was ten years old when my musical cosmos had become forever changed with the introduction of BITU.S.A. I also don’t understand the naysayers who absurdly claim that he has no talent. They must not be at all familiar with his extensive catalogue, or had the special opportunity to see him live. Sure, it would be virtually impossible for everyone to love everything he’s ever recorded, but along with Dylan (who he is NOT trying to be), he is the most important artistic figure of the 20th C. Further, he is the only person who has never let me down, except for having no tour dates set for Edmonton. And for the naysayers who don’t like the new single because it’s not Bruce at his “lyrical best”, need to understand that he’s seemingly not aiming for peerless writing with this single. As the man says himself, he just “wants to hear some rhythm”. So what else does he need to say, because isn’t that what all of us music lovers want?

artful dodger | 9/3/2007, 7:30 pm EST

its o.k if you are not into Bruce. you are free to express your opinion. if you have listened to his music from 1973 onwards or seen a concert in the last 25 -30 years your opinion may vary according to how your life may be going at a particular time. I have a teenage daughter who i have accompanied to concerts and she has not seen a band that works as hard or as long on stage as Bruce + the E Street Band . If you want to criticise thats ok but lets hear about your music taste and which musician/band you like.
Bruce fans do not necessarily wet themselves over everything he does but more often than not you can find something that you can relate to in his songs.Or maybe you’ve just had an easy life.
Rock On Bruce !

Josh | 9/3/2007, 9:35 am EST

Jesus, why does everybody get so bothered by political viewpoints? Where do we live, in a communist regime? Frankly, the same as with anybody rich or poor, if I don’t agree then I just nod my head and wait. I’m happier that these people actually take up causes than being yet another boring Hootie and the Blowfish-style band that caters to EVERYBODY by saying NOTHING.

cj | 9/1/2007, 9:15 pm EST

thank u, there is a GOD!!! I’ve been waiting 4 my E STREET dose 4 what seems like a lifetime!!!! u guys rock!!! dont listen 2 those assholes they dont know real rock & roll when they hear it!

jar | 9/1/2007, 2:17 pm EST

DUDEYO,
You might have to “stay away” from many concerts to escape all the political stuff.

Jim | 9/1/2007, 10:35 am EST

So I’m assuming you’re a Dubya fan..

DUDEYO | 9/1/2007, 10:17 am EST

I might go see ssss… NO I don’t go to concerts to hear political views I go to concerts to hear music that is what I pay to go see. Whether you like president Bush or hate him I don,t give a rats ass about that it is not the place for it. I go to concerts to escape all the political stuff and
see a good show. I wish these artists would drop their political agendas and get back to what has
made them great. Peace out.

Alan | 8/31/2007, 7:39 pm EST

No… North Carolina dates? Hopefully soon..

MacCreate | 8/31/2007, 2:31 pm EST

Today I bought my tickets for the Mannheim Germany show on Dec. 2. Ticket price range is 63 - 109 Euros, which at current exchange rate is $86 - $150.

H | 8/31/2007, 12:33 pm EST

the $215 came from www.ctlive.com, and was listed as the cheapest presale price for the Hartford, CT show…I work directly across from the Civic Center and if that’s really how much tickets are going to end up being, I’m better off just standing in the lobby and hoping I can hear some muffled songs!

Josh | 8/31/2007, 12:06 pm EST

Proud Police Officer, firing 41 shots at ANYBODY unarmed is what prompted Bruce to write that song in the first place! He wasn’t condemning ALL cops, just the ones who did THAT! Wasn’t 41 shots a bit excessive? Just because you’re a good, proud police officer doesn’t mean each and every cop is. The fact that you would even THREATEN to fire 41 shots at Bruce shows your complete lack of tact!

Ragman | 8/31/2007, 12:04 pm EST

John: The only thing I may have wrong is the ticket price (I used another poster’s number). But still, they won’t be cheap!

Josh: You misunderstood everything I said.

And, by the way, “Radio Nowhere” sucks.

Sarab | 8/31/2007, 10:50 am EST

Any police officer that threatens to shoot “41 shots” at an artist, should not wear a badge. you are sick in the brain, seek medical attention.

alaina | 8/31/2007, 10:34 am EST

Does anyone know if there will be a second batch of tour dates announced? It seems like he’s pretty much keeping to the East Coast and it seems quite likely that he’ll announce more dates for the rest of america and canada…maybe for 2008. Does anyone have info about this or agree with me???

tjbrucefan | 8/31/2007, 9:22 am EST

Finally a show to look forward to!To John M of 8/28… That opinion of yours is not allowed. Obviously you have NO SOUL.
Bruce and The E Street Band Are #1 Always!!!!!!

Proud Police Officer | 8/31/2007, 7:50 am EST

Lets fire 41 shots at him and it will stop his no talent singing and his cliche writing.

Greg | 8/30/2007, 8:49 pm EST

For the record, Pete Seeger and especially Woody Guthrie never made much money during their careers. Springsteen can seem a little self-righteous when he cops their style, but at least he’s better at it than Tom Morello.

Jeff C. | 8/30/2007, 3:46 pm EST

Ragman, prices are between $55 and $85, so not sure where you are getting your facts, unless you are going to a scalper for your information.

And yes, Bruce writes about every day situations and makes money the same as Walt Whitman and Woody Guthrie did.

And you must not be too into Bruce or you would know that the Seeger Session was the first studio album where Bruce didn’t write all of the songs on the album (with the exception of a couple of songs he co-wrote with Roy Bittan). And like someone said earlier, it’s not like anyone is getting royalties off Froggie Went A Courtin’, Buffalo Gals or Jesse James.

So good job, 0-3. The thing I’m happiest about is that you will be staying home during this tour, making it just a little easier to get tickets that still sell out in a matter of minutes.

Josh | 8/30/2007, 2:48 pm EST

Rag, people like you are just pathetic! “he’s big alright, performing those songs and then going home to his mansion.” What is it with people like you that you love them when they have a modest level of success and hate them when they can pack an arena! What do you think should be the price of a ticket? $15? If you want a show for that kind of money, go to your local club and catch an up-and-coming band since you have such an obvious disdain for people of success. You bitched about the price per ticket, the fact that he has millions and lives in a mansion, the fact that he had the audacity to cover songs that he loves and place them in the, as you call, “public domain.” Would you like him better if he gave every dime he’s ever made to different charities, got a job at the record store that you used to work at, and live like us normal folk live? God, some of you people just need to get the hell over it!

Godzilla | 8/30/2007, 2:35 pm EST

John | 8/30/2007, 2:19 pm EST

Ragman, almost eveyrthing you said is wrong!

behrkings98 | 8/30/2007, 11:41 am EST

And go and actually check the prices. They’re exactly the same as they were on the last two tours. That $215 is plain wrong.

behrkings98 | 8/30/2007, 11:40 am EST

Ragman, I don’t understand your point. Should he have said nah, i don’t want all the money i’m making? Would you? People have a right to be successful and he does not pass himself off as a poor working man, in fact he mocks that image now.

As for the Seeger Sessoins, so you believe those old songs (some of which were hundreds of years old) should no longer be played? He brought more attention to those artists than anyone ever has. It’s in the public domain for a reason. I assure you, no one has gotten royalties off Froggie Went A Courtin since the Fillmore administration

Xzorphinz | 8/30/2007, 9:18 am EST

Hey Bruce, we up here on planet Mercury want to see you in concert too. Come to our planet, please!

Michael Hillmer | 8/30/2007, 9:12 am EST

St. Louis, Missouri could really use some Magic… come on down

Ragman | 8/30/2007, 6:14 am EST

$215 for the cheapest ticket? I can imagine what the premium seats will go for! I hope Bruce adds “Money” to his set list–that’s all he’s about these days while pretending he’s still a “man of the people” sympathizing with the blue-color worker.

I had been into Bruce since the beginning, BEFORE he became the rock’n'roll icon. In the ’70s I worked in a well-known record store in NYC, and even before Born to Run came out, I was telling people he would be big (trying to get people to buy his albums). Well, he’s big all right, singing folk songs and going home to his mansion.

A lot of those songs were written by people who never made much money from them, and now the songs are in the public domain–the songwriters’ descendants won’t make a dime, while Brucy has made money from selling CDs of his renditions.

Yeah, he’s a man of the people. I used to like him a lot, but it’s hard to like him now, regardless of how good his music is.

ken vail | 8/29/2007, 9:24 pm EST

‘RADIO NOWHERE’ is one infectious song….it isn’t as good as, say, ‘candy’s room’, which is my all-time fave bruce song, but it’s a gem without a doubt.

jokeypo63 | 8/29/2007, 6:16 pm EST

Saint Louis wants you Bruce, come on down.

Screendoorslams | 8/29/2007, 2:49 pm EST

Obviously, Springsteen stirs up passionate response, in those offering profound admiration, and in the detractors. Still, I don’t get people who don’t get Bruce… I understand not being completely enthralled by every song he has recorded, however, he has written and recorded some of the most amazing music of the past 35 years. Also, during that same time, NO ONE has presented more consistently great live performances than Springsteen, especially with the E Street Band. His committment, passion and integrity have always inspired me. I sincerely believe that he helps to make the world better simply by rising from his bed each day, and living his values and his dreams.

Crazy posters will dis anything just to see their screenname on a web page. If you haven’t seen a live Bruce concert, you are not qualified to comment on this subject. And if you haven’t, your loss - and more tickets for me and my friends - so I don’t really care.

MIKE | 8/29/2007, 11:49 am EST

How much will tickets go for? anyone know?

John | 8/29/2007, 9:58 am EST

So what if Springsteen trys to be Dylan, I’m sure he was a influence like Elvis an Orbison the Beatles etc, to Springsteen. I’m sure Dylan was influenced by Peter Seeger, Guthrie etc. Bottem line I guess he puts on a good show go or don’t go I’m sure why some have to run him down.

Tricky Dick | 8/28/2007, 9:23 pm EST

Not a big Bruce fan at all (the most recent album of his I still play is Darkness), but he still cranks it live so I’ll be there again.

Jo | 8/28/2007, 9:20 pm EST

Rock on Bruce!

Humble Servant to the Bruce | 8/28/2007, 9:19 pm EST

How dare you all put down and write negatively about Bruce the Savior of the World. I worship the ground he walks on and pray to the Almighty Bruce every day. I believe when Bruce goes to the bathroom, gold nuggets come out of his ass. His music can move the mountains and inspire nations. A choir of angels stand over his shoulders during his performances. He should play in Iraq because that will bring an end to all sectarian strife and put a stop to the violence there! I’m not sure, but has his singing cured cancer yet? Oh dear Bruce, the Boss! I work for thee for free! Please bestow your presence in my area with one of your concerts. Amen.

joe | 8/28/2007, 9:05 pm EST

Sgt.B
the website posted about the “Falling of Bruce Springsteen” is written by some fool who thinks the Culture Club is “the most underrated band ever.”
hmm

Ross | 8/28/2007, 8:58 pm EST

His songwriting is cliche? He has no musical talent? He hates cops!?!?!

Man whoever believes that must not be to smart. How exactly is his music cliche? Can you explain…give examples. I’d like to hear. And saying he has no musical talent pretty much makes you a complete dumbass. Listen to New York City Serenade or Jungleland. Probably more musical talent in those two songs then the artists you listen to combined.

And yeah, since Bruce wrote a protest song against police officers it means he hates them? American Skin (41 Shots) I guess can be taken as a protest song against police, but it’s a lot more than that. By those standards, Bob Dylan hates police officers too. Didn’t he write that song Hurricane bad mouthing law enforcement? Some people are just idiots.

Anyway, can’t wait to be seeing Bruce in Chicago comes October 21. Because in my opinion, he is the best musician…just my opinion of course.

Knuckle Bonez | 8/28/2007, 8:37 pm EST

ROCK ON BRUCE, I love it. Once again it’s the real ROCKERS(VAN HALEN, VELVET REVOLVER, ETC) who sell tickets. While the Britney Spears of the world have to stay in the tabloids by showing how fuck in the head they are. The world is laughing at the train wrecks that represent the younger generation, but they are excellent representatives of how much of a waste many of them are. THE 80′S WHERE AN AWSOME TIME WE KICKED ASS, AND HAD A BLAST. Entertainers were actually entertaining. MTV was really music video’s, and BOY GEORGE AND WHAM were actually freaks they just didn’t try to play one on MTV.

Skullfreak | 8/28/2007, 8:32 pm EST

Relax, folks. He’s not the messiah, ok? A few catchy tunes, and a few Dylan rip-offs. He’s nothing that great - believe me.

SalParadisewasRight | 8/28/2007, 8:30 pm EST

Also, I like how that comment made me look drunk because the words are sorta jumbled in the middle! Fucking work, I should be drunk!

t | 8/28/2007, 8:25 pm EST

John Mellencamp also announced US tour dates today

DeadHorse | 8/28/2007, 8:18 pm EST

Wow, there really are some ignorant comments on here….Has not released a ‘fair’ album in 20 years? I can’t speak for ‘Devils & Dust’ having never heard it, but, The Seeger Sessions were brilliant and ‘The Rising’ was one of his finest musical cornerstones. I cannot wait to hear more of ‘Magic’

SalParadisewasRight | 8/28/2007, 8:18 pm EST

Bruce is intelligent and works very hard to write songs that he thinks are interesting. He is not a joke, he still puts on a three hour stage show and out of the usual 25 songs only plays like usually more than half are of different songs. If you don’t like him, or begrudge him some shit, why are you even on the Rolling Stone website? He is like the magazine’s Gold Standard of what a rock star should be.

ken vail | 8/28/2007, 8:14 pm EST

there’s some real ignorant comments here…it’s not as though BRUCE didn’t work hard to get where he is….he has been a musician most of his adult life….read up on him….i hate people that are so judgmental just because they have a little more cash than us regular folk…well…uh…a lot more! lol….bruce is very inspiring to me…just listen to lp’s like ‘the river’, ‘born to run’, ‘the rising’, the ‘tracks’ boxset….to say he rips off dylan is a bit simplistic-everyone in the 70’s was ‘the new dylan’…..ok enough of my ramblings! lol again

Tyler | 8/28/2007, 8:12 pm EST

Who cares !!!Old tire that is flat!!

Ragman | 8/28/2007, 7:38 pm EST

So the rich “poorman” who lives in a $14 million mansion will grace us with his presence on a stage at shows it will cost us a week’s pay to see.

That’s a real man of the people.

Rock on, millionaire.

megasudz | 8/28/2007, 7:26 pm EST

Radio Nowhere is strait out of Darkness era E Street band. I had chills listening to if for the first time this morning.

AZ | 8/28/2007, 5:58 pm EST

OMG, I’m from Philly and unfortunately have lived outside Hartford for the last 8 years and for him to start the tour here is a sign from the gods that they have not forsaken me. Tonight I will listen to my Bruce MP3 mix and revel in the fact that I am not forsook. The gods granted us The Chosen One and he will deliver us for a night at least.

sgt. B | 8/28/2007, 5:44 pm EST

I hear you John. Ever since Bruce released his anti-Cop song I lost total respect for the guy. Here is a great article on Springsteen and the fall of his career:

http://blogcritics. org/archives/2007/02/18/103354 .php

john m | 8/28/2007, 5:22 pm EST

Bruce Springsteen has absolutely NO musical talent. His songwriting is so cliche it’s sick. But magazines like Rolling Stone shove him in our faces despite the fact he hasn’t had a hit in 20 years. He also hates police officers.

General Tso | 8/28/2007, 5:20 pm EST

Yeah I heard when Bruce tours with the E Street Band he would sometimes play guitar with his teeth and smash his guitar to bits against his speakers and throw the pieces into the audience. And not only that, he also curses up a storm and burns the American flag on stage. Damn, that guy’s a rebel.

Meetmeinthefields | 8/28/2007, 4:34 pm EST

Seeing Bruce in concert is almost better than anything life has to offer…. What an experience ! Remember, I said almost !

Sonicslang | 8/28/2007, 3:54 pm EST

Yo Chicken, obviously you are right - you are free to comment as you see fit. BUT, if you ever actually SAW a Springsteen show you would know how stupid a comment like the “depends” one actually was, since his stage presence is more intense, more lively and more fun than almost every act I’ve ever seen, including those young enough to be his grandkids. During the E Street tours, Bruce acts like like he’s a 22 kid, and his enthusiasm is what makes for such a great live show. Plus, have you seen him in person? The dude could still probably kick your ass, 57 or not. :-)

Any clue how much these tickets will be for the US dates?

Chicken Chow Mein | 8/28/2007, 3:43 pm EST

According to hollybcars, “There is a lot of music I don’t like but life is too short to spend time commenting about it.” Meanwhile she’s giving us 3 paragraphs of comments on what other people posted here. Kind of hypocritical, isn’t it? In other words, don’t waste time commenting here as long as it’s not negative.

Ummm, Holly, you’re restricting our right to speak freely here? If I want to bash Springsteen and his style of music, I should be able to. Isn’t that what this message board is about - free form expression? You need to learn to take the good and the bad, Holly, because you’re the one who’s got some growing up to do.

If anybody even thinks Springsteen is a Dylan ripoff, then they have clearly never listened to his music. Bring on the tour Bitchesss!

not a SS fan | 8/28/2007, 3:24 pm EST

Go back to sleep Skullfreak… He’s 10 times more talented than Dylan ever will be. Dylan has been stuck in his owm universe since 62′.

hollybcars | 8/28/2007, 3:22 pm EST

Of course all artists are influenced by other artists! That said, Springsteen has had over 30 years to establish his music and unique style. He is not like Dylan and does not try to be Dylan. Anyone stating so has not seen or listened to either artist.

If it’s not your style of music fine but not sure why you waste your time commenting on artists that you don’t like. You aren’t going to influence any ticket or CD sales with remarks that seem to be written in an attempt to sound clever but are in fact juvenile.

There is a lot of music I don’t like but life is too short to spend time commenting about it.

Go listen to Hinder and leave us to the greats, Chicken Chow Mein. I’d love to see any of YOUR bands survive three albums let alone THREE decades!

PHANTOM POWER | 8/28/2007, 3:13 pm EST

Isn’t that joke a little tired? You gotta get better material, kid.

Chicken Chow Mein | 8/28/2007, 2:47 pm EST

Is the tour gonna be sponsored by Depends undergarments?

Kurt's Corpse | 8/28/2007, 2:44 pm EST

Agreed Skullfreak. He thinks he’s the Messiah. He hasn’t put out even a ‘fair’ album in over 20 years……

Skullfreak | 8/28/2007, 2:42 pm EST

He’s the most overrated singer/songwriter of the last 30 years. Tries too hard to be Dylan. Well Bruce….you ain’t no Dylan…..never was, never will be.

# 1 Bruce Springstreet Fan ! | 8/28/2007, 2:39 pm EST

I am the biggest Springstreet fan in the world! And with Clarence Thomas and the F Street band, this tour should be friggin great. I’ll be seeing the Almighty Bruce in Boston. That new CD coming out in December is gonna top the charts for sure. The Boss is back and by Boss I ain’t talking bout no George Steinbrenner. I nearly pissed on myself when I saw those dates.

Mule | 8/28/2007, 2:08 pm EST

I was lucky enough to catch the Boss with the E Streeters last time out (touring behind “The Rising”) so I’m not disappointed he’s not coming to my area (NC). Instead, I urge anyone within a hundred mile radius of a tour stop to do yourself a favor and see one of the great rock’n'roll shows still around!!

Gertrude from Antarctica !! | 8/28/2007, 2:01 pm EST

Bruce, I no see no show for us here in Antarctica. Why not? We have Campbell Soup Arena here that have dog sled competition. You can play your music here too, no? All our 65 people would love to see you come here and play your rock and roll. We welcome you Bruce and will treat you to great dinner of steamed whale and penguin meat. Long live the Bruce and the rock and roll!

Steve | 8/28/2007, 1:49 pm EST

So…Paris and Stockholm, but not Portland and Seattle? C’mon Bruce, you do have fans west of the Mississippi that aren’t in California…

muzzy63 | 8/28/2007, 1:43 pm EST

behrkings98 is correct. Expect a huge stadium tour next spring/summer. Last time around, he did something like 15 gigs at Giants Stadium.

Jughead | 8/28/2007, 1:31 pm EST

Damn, I am so not there!

behrkings98 | 8/28/2007, 1:23 pm EST

If you miss one of these dates you shouldn’t fret…this is just a warm-up run…the big tour will kick-off in ‘08. And as Bruce said, this ain’t no farewell tour. Rock on Bruce, Rock on.

Jordan | 8/28/2007, 1:15 pm EST

Sounds like Ottawa and Toronto for me!

boston | 8/28/2007, 12:56 pm EST

Oddjob | 8/28/2007, 12:44 pm EST

Oh man, those NY/NJ tickets are gonna be hard to get…
