My all-time favourite is LOVE’S IN NEED OF LOVE TODAY. It’s always playing at the back of my mind, whether I’m happy or sad.

ant | 6/27/2009, 9:55 pm EST

Joy Inside My Tears!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quack Quack | 5/30/2009, 9:19 pm EST

Waht is wrong with Ï Just Called …! It is a song with a lot of feeling for someone who cannot see. I know because I once had very poor vision and it almost drove me away from talking to “my woman” until I fixed my eyes and didn’t give a damn who was in front of me when I had something to say. There is really nothing wrong with sweet talk.

Vedie | 2/13/2009, 7:10 pm EST

Could you help me. I wrote myself a check for ten million dollars for acting services rendered and dated it Thanksgiving 1995. I put it in my wallet and it deteriorated. And then, just before Thanksgiving 1995, I found out I was going to make ten million dollars for Dumb & Dumber. I put that check in the casket with my father because it was our dream together.
I am from Bolivia and now teach English, please tell me right I wrote the following sentence: “I charged my brothers five cents for a wadded up piece of paper selected from a bucket full of them.”

Thank you so much for your future answers 8) . Vedie.

Kim | 2/5/2009, 12:05 pm EST

OMG what the eff? I Believe (When I Fall in Love it Will Be Forever)…that is the most incredible song!! A bazillion times better than Sunshine of my Life. No doi, RS.

Matt | 1/16/2009, 3:15 pm EST

Lately, As, Overjoyed, Knocks Me Off My Feet, and If You Really Love Me should have made this list.

JOHNBOY | 12/16/2008, 4:24 pm EST

agree with Mike! My two favourites

kevin Archer | 10/5/2008, 5:09 pm EST

the song at the end of jungle fever is called Feeding Of The Love Of The Land and is not on the the soundtrack

steveo | 7/8/2008, 2:34 pm EST

George C. Acoff | 11/7/2007, 10:25 pm EST

There is a song that plays at the end of the movie “Jungle Fever”; it is an awesome song yet it is not on the soundtrack of that movie. I think the name of the song is “Stealing All The Love”–has anyone else heard of this song or know where it can be purchased?

George C. Acoff | 11/7/2007, 10:17 pm EST

There is a song that plays at the end of the movie: “Jungle Fever” that I have been searching for for a number of years–I believe the title is: “Stealing All The Love”. I haven’t heard it mentioned anywhere else and it was not on the soundtrack–has anyone else heard of this awesome song?

Stevie (ironic HUH) | 10/11/2007, 6:01 pm EST

1. sir duke
2. superstition
3. Do I Do
MANY MANY MORE!!!!!!!!!!!

Wendy Doyle | 9/25/2007, 12:39 pm EST

I applaud you for even trying to narrow down the amazing works of Stevie. It cannot be done.

Jeanette | 9/3/2007, 4:11 pm EST

i forgot if you really love me! doh! well - shit. to come up with a list in general is insane…

Jeanette | 9/3/2007, 4:05 pm EST

in no particular order…my top 10 would be;
1. blowin’ in the wind
2. you met your match
3. i’m wondering
4. never had a dream come true
5. did i hear you say you love me?
6. ebony eyes

Nick | 8/31/2007, 2:20 pm EST

What a surprise, Rolling Stone chooses the most predictable, superficial list of Stevie songs as his “greatest.” MIA are Love Having You Around, Golden Lady, Summer Soft, As, Another Star, Love’s in Need of Love Today, They Won’t Go, etc.

mike | 8/30/2007, 4:01 pm EST

too bad none of Stevie’s fans realize his best song is Ebony Eyes… no serious music lover should be without that one song… let’s see who can name what album it’s on….quick, no peaking

Lou | 8/30/2007, 3:19 pm EST

Always had a soft spot for “Creepin” myself …

thewufs | 8/30/2007, 1:51 pm EST

Jesus, where the hell is “As”? I guess this has already been mentioned, but that’s a serious omission right there. Might hafta include it as a medley with
“Another Star,” however.

maven | 8/30/2007, 12:24 pm EST

Stevie himself chose “Love’s in Need” after 9/11–cannot be ignored. But the writer who said you need Top 40 instead of top 20 is the most correct.

Jason F | 8/30/2007, 11:05 am EST

What about “Ebony and Ivory?” or “I just called to say - I love you?”

birddogger | 8/30/2007, 10:39 am EST

“Skeletons”, from 1987. Brutally underrated and criminally forgotten.

Rob | 8/30/2007, 8:08 am EST

I’m glad to see Summer Soft listed here a number of times. It’s always been one of my favorites. But I think Don’t You Worry Bout A Thing is my favorite.

Dr. Funkenstein | 8/30/2007, 2:32 am EST

“Too High”……anyone?

Brandon | 8/30/2007, 12:11 am EST

An impossible category. There are simply too many brilliant songs. All right, now, people, let’s move on.

Lorenzo | 8/29/2007, 9:21 pm EST

It would have to go like this, in no order since there is no best song.:
Summer Soft
Superwoman
Evil
Tuesda y Heartbreak
Happier than the Morning Sun
Maybe Your Baby
Power Flower
Send One Your Love
Sir Duke
I Wish
Contusion
Looking For Another Pure Love
I Believe
Golden Lady
Don’t You Worry Bout A Thing
Misstra Know It All
Too High
Visions
Living For The City
Highter Ground
Jesus Children
All is Fair In Love
Smile Please
It Ain’t No Use
Please Don’t Go
They Won’t go when I go
Bird Of Beauty
You Haven’t Done Nothing
Boogie On Reggae Woman
Tell Me Something Good (he wrote It)
As (of course)
Knocks Me Off My Feet
Isn’t She Lovely
Joy Inside My Tears
You and I
Ngiculela-Es Una Historia-I am Singing
All Day Sucker
I Love Every Little Thing About You
If You Really Love Me
Do I Do
Ribbon In The Sky
Moon Blue
Sunshine In Their Eyes
Take Up A Course In Happiness
The Secret Life Of Plants
You Met Your Match
Heaven Is 10 Zillion Light Years Away
Do Like You
I Ain’t Gonna Stand For It
Master Blaster
Lately
I Was Made To Love Her
Signed Sealed Delivered
We Can Work It Out
My Cherie Amour
Heaven Help Us All
Seems So Long

And probably a few more. I love Stevie, saw him live in Concord. All of his songs are amazing.

Anonymous | 8/29/2007, 6:02 pm EST

Fuck “As”. “Ain’t Gonna Stand For It” rocks the shit. Sit on it.

Sherry | 8/29/2007, 3:36 pm EST

Also, besides ‘As’, how about ‘Another Star’ from Songs in the Key of Life. What a great love song. Forget about stuff like ‘Superstition’, it’s too played out. Deep Stevie, that’s where the real pleasures lie.

gc | 8/29/2007, 2:49 pm EST

“for once in my life” should be #1
“isn’t she lovely?” #2

grayson | 8/29/2007, 2:00 pm EST

the list is good, but the top 5 should be:

1. Living for the City
2. Boogie On Reggae Woman
3. Wish
4. Sir Duke
5. Uptight

Walt | 8/29/2007, 12:06 pm EST

“Maybe Your Baby” and “They Won’t Go When I Go”, that’s all I have to say

Walt | 8/29/2007, 12:06 pm EST

“Maybe Your Baby” and “They Won’t Go When I Go”, that’s all I have to say

Fedoko | 8/29/2007, 10:10 am EST

Higher Ground is excellent, and the RHCP cover superb.

Bradford | 8/29/2007, 9:29 am EST

Misstra Know it all? Come on…

JDW | 8/29/2007, 3:42 am EST

Not a bad list, but too much emphasis on radio hits. Would rather include Golden Lady, Superwoman, As, Summer Soft, You’ve Got It Bad Girl, Creepin’ and I Believe (When I Fall in Love).

sheilab | 8/29/2007, 3:00 am EST

Agree with most of the selections, but what about knocks me off my feet and too high

Candace | 8/28/2007, 7:22 pm EST

For the most part I think the list is fair…but As, Ribbon In The Sky, and You And I are phenomenal songs that deserved to be recognized

Jason | 8/28/2007, 4:54 pm EST

So classic - “J-j-j-jammin the one, j-jammin on the one.”

Jason | 8/28/2007, 4:19 pm EST

“They Won’t Go (When I go)” is one of my all time favs…

jill hives | 8/28/2007, 1:59 pm EST

what about “jammin’ on the one” with theo huxtable? friggin’ classic! j/k, yeah, he’s an awesome songwriter, 20 songs isn’t enough room to list all the great ones he has. i think noel gallagher even ripped him off one time, and noel only steals from the best.

Ryan | 8/28/2007, 1:49 pm EST

As, Overjoyed, Heaven help us all and lately would be four i would have included.

kate | 8/28/2007, 12:32 pm EST

can’t believe “a place in the sun” isn’t on there. boo hiss.

JOLIN | 8/28/2007, 12:28 pm EST

“Overjoyed” and “Village Ghetto Land” should be on the list

JOLIN | 8/28/2007, 12:28 pm EST

Nello | 8/28/2007, 11:56 am EST

What about Sk8er Boi?

duh | 8/28/2007, 11:50 am EST

No “As” or “I Believe” on here? You lot know NOTHING.

duh | 8/28/2007, 11:50 am EST

No “As” or “I Believe” on here? You lot know NOTHING.

Sherry | 8/28/2007, 11:47 am EST

I agree with everyone - ‘As’ is the greatest love song ever written!! How could you leave it off! At least ‘I was Made to Love Her’ made it on.
We love you Stevie! I still put on Songs in the Key of Life when I need a lift.

Will | 8/28/2007, 11:37 am EST

Where’s Evil? C’mon!!!

Adam | 8/28/2007, 11:07 am EST

Pretty predictable stuff…I’d have liked to see some deeper cuts here. Some of my candidates:
Superwoman
He’s Misstra Know-It-All
Smile Please
Village Ghetto Land
Summer Soft
Another Star

And yes, the omission of “As” is ridiculous.

MikeO | 8/28/2007, 10:25 am EST

Not much Stevie knowledge in those RS picks. Some of his best are album tracks that weren’t big radio singles: Golden Lady, Tuesday Heartbreak, As, I Love Every Little Thing About You, Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing…

steviejeebie | 8/28/2007, 9:30 am EST

“As” and “I Believe” are probably his best two compositions, no doubt. Listen to the people!

otto maddox | 8/28/2007, 7:15 am EST

Never Had A Dream Come True and I Don’t Know Why I Love You - both from the classic 60s period

max_webber | 8/28/2007, 7:15 am EST

I’m laughing my a** off.
the ten songs I suggested
made the list so RS did not
ignore a minority of readers.

10. Fingertips, Part 2
9. I Wish
8. You Are the Sunshine of My Life
7. Master Blaster (Jammin’)
6. You Haven’t Done Nothin’
5. I Was Made to Love Her
4. Higher Ground
3. Living for the City
2. Uptight (Everything’s Alright)
1. Superstition

Hmmm… Maybe If had included “As”, which I think is one of the greatest love songs ever written, then it would have made the list (since I went for Fingertips instead of As in the last spot to pay tribute to the the Little Stevie Wonder child wonder period of his career.)

b therman | 8/28/2007, 7:14 am EST

his cover of we can work it out is better then the beatles

ths | 8/28/2007, 5:24 am EST

Never mind the lists - create your own if RS is going to ignore the readers.

Ugly Bastard | 8/28/2007, 4:29 am EST

Is this a joke ? Why bother asking for the reader´s opinions when you apparently don´t even read our suggestions. The songs that were mentioned the most this weekend aren´t on this list…do the RS staff sit on the monday meetings and say “OK, how can we piss our readers off the most this week ?”
You´re starting to really annoy me, that´s for sure…

Peg Leg Ono | 8/28/2007, 3:36 am EST

Village Ghetto Land (?)

Larry Buchas | 8/28/2007, 3:36 am EST

Talk about biased. R/S disregarded the readers lists and went for the top 40 Billboard lists.

Steve | 8/28/2007, 1:32 am EST

shoul’ve read the most recent posts, but while I’m here might as well say how on earth can you not have Love’s in Need of Love and All I Do!

This list is the suckiest list that has ever sucked.

Steve | 8/28/2007, 1:27 am EST

Hey, if you don’t even have As (Always) on this list then how can anyone take it seriously?

Jon | 8/27/2007, 11:01 pm EST

Good list, indeed, although the emphasis seems to be on radio hits. There should be more from “Talking Book,” i.e; “You And I,” “Big Brother,” or “I Believe.” I’d trade any of those for “Isn’t She Lovely” or “Master Blaster.” I’m with the others on here about “As,” too. More obscure? “Send One Your Love.”

shaun | 8/27/2007, 9:59 pm EST

No “As”?

You people don’t have fucking souls.

boze | 8/27/2007, 9:44 pm EST

20 number 1s by stevie is only 8 bucks on ituns

Kim | 8/27/2007, 9:23 pm EST

No “Ebony and Ivory”???? WTF!!!!!!!
J/K : )

Mike! | 8/27/2007, 9:21 pm EST

Well done on this, although i must agree that “Love In Need of Love…” and “I believe…” would be in my top 20, but this list is pretty super,

Part Time Lover was a giant musical turd.

sweetnessfollows | 8/27/2007, 6:22 pm EST

just be thankful ‘i just called to say i love you’ isnt on there

A.J. | 8/27/2007, 5:58 pm EST

Where is As? I Believe (When I Fall in Love It Will Be Forever)?

JPS | 8/27/2007, 5:51 pm EST

“As” has to be in the top 5!

ANDY | 8/27/2007, 5:19 pm EST

LOVES IN NEED OF LOVE TODAY- didnt even make the list. C’mon, but i do like the list and it could probably be a top 40
