Rock Bloggin’: Jack White Chats About New Raconteurs Album

8/27/07, 2:08 pm EST

A new post on the Raconteurs’ MySpace page suggests the band is busy working on a new album. In a typically obscure and comedic exchange between Brendan Benson and Jack White (full text after the jump), the pair reveal they’ve written and recorded “a lot of new songs” (and not in a drug-fueled haze, according to White). So are we in for more Bowie and Zeppelin-esque jams in the style of last year’s Broken Boy Soldiers? White is — as per usual — keeping it mysterious: “I hate to even attempt to describe them.”

brendan: jack why don’t you want to tell people about the new album we’ve got cooking?

jack: I’ll tell them when the time is right.

brendan: what time is it right now?

jack: three o’clock

brendan: but the clock on the wall says 2:10

jack: ok, the time is right. The teurs have a lot of new songs in the works people, the writing and structure of them has dissipated and reinvigorated and many times over since we came home from our last shows.

brendan: We got into the studio as soon as we could, or as soon as l.j. would let us.

jack: yeah, matter of fact little jack won’t let us do much without his blessing. and trying to get his blessing is like draining blood from a stone.

Brendan: is that why the recording sessions were “drug fuelled”, jack?

jack: I was just kidding when I said that brendan, don’t believe everything you read. fact of business; don’t even believe all the things I tell you when it’s just you and me in the room. If little jack’s there though, then it’s all true.

brendan: well, if you consider acidopholous powder a drug, then yes the tank is full of fuel!

jack: if I was to ever take a drug for pleasure, I would want that drug to be aspirin for all the headaches I get from second hand acidopholous powder and flax seed smoke.

brendan: what about the songs man? Are you with me?

jack: look b, I know that you and patrick are starting a two piece band on the side.

brendan: who told you that?

jack: L.J. did and we’re both fine with that, but as a penalty legion and I have decided you’ll be forefiting any and all t shirt profits for the period extending to, but not including, January first 2093.

brendan: um……..ok, it’s worth it.

jack: but as we were saying, the new songs are coming together strong, I hate to even attempt to describe them…

brendan: it would be like dancing about architecture.

jack: or singing about girls.

sweet im looking forward to it, they are one of the best bands around and jack white is just flat out one of the best artists of today

Bangers-N-Mash | 8/27/2007, 11:36 pm EST

They should release a live album to hold us over. If anyone caught them on the Dylan tour, they ran circles around the Dylan set… and I feel like a sinner even saying that.

ths | 8/28/2007, 5:09 am EST

They stand out to me…I’m not minding them so far.

judrichards | 8/28/2007, 9:37 am EST

Hopefully Rollingstone will keep a cover spot available for these boys when the album comes out!

marnr67 | 8/28/2007, 10:07 am EST

that’d be a great idea and all if they didn’t suck.

and that’s coming from a Jack White fan.

whaaaa | 8/28/2007, 10:20 am EST

what a load of bollocks

Second that Bangers-N-Mash. The Racs stole the show on the Dylan tour. I always judge a band on it’s cover choices and “Bang Bang,” “It Aint Easy” are as about as cool as it gets. Grinderman and the Racs stand alone.

Will 5 on the 5 be on the new LP?

One Fish Two Fish | 8/28/2007, 12:31 pm EST

Hooray, I can’t wait, one of the best bands out there today.

chizzy | 8/29/2007, 10:55 am EST

Can’t wait for the new album. It can only be good. There hasn’t been one song that sounds bad. At this moment Jack White is one of the best musicians in the world.Thumbs up!!!

Odys Coltrane | 8/29/2007, 12:47 pm EST

It’s got to be better than the last Stripes album.

Paul | 8/29/2007, 3:42 pm EST

I’m a big Stripes fan, and I thought the first Raconteurs album was a yawner. The whole thing strikes me as a big ego trip. It was actually Martin Mull that first said “writing about music is like dancing about architechture”. This group is not clever as they seem to think they are.

Hilly Kristal | 8/29/2007, 4:31 pm EST

Paul, you have never seen them play live. It’s like listening to a completely different band. They rock. Check them out on youtube. They play some amazing covers too.

Lizzy Lizz | 8/29/2007, 5:22 pm EST

Surely, he was quoting Martin Mull, not trying to take credit for the quote. Not that important of a point, but I’d prefer a new Brendan Benson record myself…since we’re on the subject.

Paul | 8/29/2007, 10:39 pm EST

I agree, I have heard they are much better live than on CD. I have never seen them live because both the Racontuers and the White Stripes skipped Detroit on recent tours. I assume because of bad feelings towards a very small number of people. Lots of Detroit area fans including myself were really disappointed by this after many years of supporting the band by going to shows before they became really popular.

Rancid Planet | 8/30/2007, 12:44 am EST

Just so long as they dont’t ripoff “Is She Really Going Out With Him?” again. I hate that damn riff. It gets stuck in my head forever.

Hilly Kristal | 8/30/2007, 1:55 pm EST

Good call Rancid Planet!

Hilly Kristal | 8/30/2007, 1:57 pm EST

Steady As She Goes might be their weakest song.

Yuck! | 8/30/2007, 4:19 pm EST

Awful band,bunch of posers!

Jon | 8/30/2007, 4:20 pm EST

Poor Jack he is in TWO crap bands!

Beth | 8/30/2007, 4:26 pm EST

They suck.

Jason | 8/30/2007, 4:28 pm EST

I bought the first CD used for 5.99,I over paid ny 5.98.Utter crap.

Gerald | 8/30/2007, 4:31 pm EST

Hard to say who sux more this losers or The White Stripes.

wealljustwanttobebigrockstars | 8/30/2007, 4:47 pm EST

wow you last couple of posters are real classy….trash a band all you want but its sad you would even joke about that kind of stuff happening to jack white….after all they could be nickelback

Paul | 8/30/2007, 10:50 pm EST

I am offically embarassed to be on this forum with the recent postings from a bunch of idiots.
I had hoped to read some intelligent commentary, I hope the recent posters are not representative of Rolling Stone readers, what a bunch of losers.

smileyface | 12/28/2007, 10:55 pm EST

These posts are reminescent of the current readers of Rolling Stone magazine, that is for sure. A forum packed with idiocy. What can you expect from a magazine that continues to embarass itself (picking Linkin Park and Britany Spears in the best albums of the year most recently). If you are more interested in celebrity shenanigans and music as anything but an art form, then it is no surprise you are on this forum. Rolling Stone stopped caring about the actual music a long time ago, as did the readers. Once David Fricke leaves, well, this magazine will be all but culturally impotent, and the dipshit likes of this forum will run completely rampant.

REVERB | 3/18/2008, 7:14 pm EST

kinda weak debut,no sophmore slump! “live” is jack’s weapon.

jon | 3/18/2008, 10:17 pm EST

wow, all you guys suck. These guys are pure geniouses. Why is everyone bashing them. the white stripes and the raconteurs are great bands. I wish more utter crap bands could be a little more like these incredible ones.

what the??? | 3/19/2008, 12:56 am EST
