It’s no secret Britney Spears‘ career has been in the crapper the past few years (to put it mildly), and now rumors claiming the troubled pop star will attempt the comeback of all comebacks at MTV’s September 9th Video Music Awards — the home of some of her greatest televised triumphs, including her 2003 lip-lock with Madonna and python-assisted “I’m a Slave 4 U” performance in 2001 — appear to be shaking out. According to a source close to Spears, new pal R.J. Durell is her choreographer, and a rep for Durell told 24Sizzler.com that the two are working together: “He is co-choreographing her performance for the VMAs with Nick Flores, who worked with her as dancer before, so he brought R.J. in.” When pressed for more details, Durell’s rep was coy but revealed that the pair began working together “a couple of weeks ago” and indicated they’ve been spending lots of time together “rehearsing the number” but “doubts” their relationship is more than platonic. Durell contributed three numbers to Madonna’s Confessions tour and has danced on the big screen in films including Rush Hour 3 and Austin Powers in Goldmember. Want more Britney right now?
