1) Ted Nugent is an American. I have friends around the world and I know that the whole world is watching us. I feel ashamed that he’s one of my fellow countrymen.

3) So many Americans, who should know better, are taking the attitude “Who cares?”
4) Profanity and insults have taken the place of serious thought and debate in America.
5) I’m an American female. I don’t hunt, and for the first time in my life I have the urge to buy a gun. I won’t do it, but the fact that I even thought of doing it makes me feel physically sick.

By posting I accept the probability that someone is going to hurl an insult and use profanity to dismiss what I’ve said. I feel so sad, because I remember a time when my country was better than that.

We should all feel ashamed of ourselves. We are so fortunate and so privileged and instead of leading the world in a positive way we’re rapidly deteriorating from within. And instead of paying attention and being informed our citizens are watching Oprah. Somehow we have to improve our spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical health. We’re not just hurting ourselves. I was playing Detroit one night and Ted was the opening act and then halfway through my set his roadies pushed his amps onto our stage and he began trying to out-volume me. I was pretty stunned because I thought “what a jerk”, but I didn’t want my guys to throw him off the stage ’cause I felt that he’d make something out of it, so I played along with his gag and answered all of his riffs, quite easily I might add. I guess he got a little un-nerved ’cause the crowd could see that it wasn’t really working for him, so he tried to finish it off by playing with his teeth, of all things, which he did real slow and jerky. I guess that he really didn’t believe that I could do that ’cause i wasn’t givin’ to doing those things in those days, but any guitarist can tell you that it’s quite easy to do, although I guess to Ted it was the “big hard”, so after he finished his lick and the crowd grew silent waiting to see if I’d respond and I waited and waited until it got real quiet. You could hear a pin drop in that hall and I could hear a friend of mine offstage whisper, “do it”. So after an enormously long pause, and just as Ted started to strut towards me, I picked up my axe to my teeth and let loose with a blitz of notes, loud, long and fast. Well, the crowd goes nuts and I guess Ted, to his credit, realized what happened so he falls down like he’s been shot and I guessed that meant that I’d won or something. To this day, I think it was the single most stupid thing that I’d ever seen in music. I remember that Ted began to go around the country doing these battle shows. They asked if I’d do it with them but I declined. I think that this was the day that the “WWF” came to rock and roll and I really think that Ted was dumb to do that kind of crap. As to whether I blew Ted Nugent’s doors off, I think we should ask the fans that were there and remember it. After that, Ted and I ended up at the same management for a while along with Aerosmith, and he always acted like he didn’t like me very much, although I couldn’t imagine why….

I think it is hilarious how all you people from different countries come on here and talk about Americans. If you hate us so much, why are you on here reading stuff that relates to AMERICA. Why don’t you worry about your own country. Do you really have nothing better to do then come on here and talk shit about Americans? To the person who said we are fighting a dumb war..you aren’t us. You weren’t attacked like we were so you have no right to even give your opinion. If you don’t want your people there, then fight that. We got attacked, and we fought back. I believe the statements of Nugent and many of the comments posted here are indicative of the sincere need for change in American politics and society in general. Remember that John McCain himself has been for most of his career an outsider to Republican party politics and that the central issue for his campaign to overcome were his connections to the Bush presidency. There exists in America today a genuine desire to see a shift from previous economic and military failures abroad to some inner sole searching and remembering what American freedom and liberty actually is.
For this purpose, Amercia needed more than a president, it needs inspiration in the form of a strong leader. Most assuredly John McCain would have made a worthy president, but he was short in his ability to inspire Americans to believe in themselves and in their country once again.
Childish stunts like Ted Nugent’s, no matter how much they win appluase from anti intellectuals, are indeed the West’s answer to extremism and fundamentalism and are totally out of step with the views of the over whelming majority of westerners around the world. Fortunately it seems we are coming to a point in time where inciting a response through inflammatory speech is having less and less of an affect on people who are thinking more rationally thn ever before.
And perhaps some of the posts here are correct and leftists should just take his little stunt as a joke. Or perhaps the future of America, rising from the terrible state it is in at home and overseas, for some is no joking matter.
