Maroon 5’s Adam Levine Recalls the Band’s Early Days, How They Incorporated R&B: Exclusive Audio

8/24/07, 10:45 am EST

As you may have realized by glancing at our Web site, Maroon 5 is on the cover of the current issue of Rolling Stone. Contributing editor Gavin Edwards sat down with the quintet to discuss everything from their explosive inter-band battles to the moment frontman Adam Levine realized Maroon 5 would have a career beyond their first album. Listen in on a bit of their conversation here:

  • Adam Levine discusses Kara’s Flowers — the teenage iteration of Maroon 5 — and reminisces about playing shows at L.A. clubs when he and his bandmates were still in high school.

  • Levine talks about the song “Not Falling Apart” and explains how his approach to music changed as the band adopted a more R&B influence.

I know it was hard, but RS managed to top the crapiness of their last cover. Kudos.

Every single band with a number in their name fucking sucks. It’s a reliable way to know a band blows, without even having to hear it! What a breakthrough, thanks shitty we-use-a-number-in-our-name bands!

Some of the most homo-erotic pictures I have ever seen, are of this band. That lead singer looks like a penis. I swear to god I am not keeping my subscription of 8 years. Fuck you RS, I’M OUT!

The only thing that’s making you drop your subscription is that psychotic meat loaf you call a brain!

All you jerks need to stop hating on Maroon 5, Adam to be more specific. Maroon 5 is one of the best bands out there, Adam is amazing and all of you can just shove it. Great job, Rolling Stone for finally making me like your magazine.

You go the Truth!
How about you other guys go scratch your balls or do something equally useful with your ‘I need attention, look how controversial I am’ brains (or lack thereof)?
M5 has earned their kudos to be on the cover of the magazine and you can bet your arse their music will live on a lot longer than a bunch of ignoramuses spouting crap on here…
Aah it’s good to vent!
