The Phil Spector Trial: We Watch Court TV So You Don’t Have To

8/22/07, 8:59 am EST

WHAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY?
Following another four-day break, the defense team finally came to court at full strength as lawyers Bruce Cutler and Linda Kenney-Baden were back by Phil Spector’s side. Rather than continue focusing on Dr. Michael Baden’s recent bombshell, the defense meekly rested their case, allowing the prosecution to continue their rebuttal. Devra Robitaille, a former Spector friend and business associate, became the fifth woman to tell the jury that Spector pointed a gun at her after she threatened to leave the famed producer’s house without putting out. Robitaille testified that in the late Seventies, Spector, after a night of drinking, locked her in a room and held a gun to her temple, at which point he allegedly said, “If you leave, I’ll blow your fucking head off.” Following the incident, she disconnected herself from Spector for the better part of a decade, until she saw him again in the 1980s. Once again, a night of catching up ended up with Spector pointing a gun at her.

IS THIS GOOD OR BAD FOR SPECTOR?
As with the previous four women who testified about Spector’s proclivity for pointing firearms, it was bad. Earlier, the defense only rested their case after they weren’t allowed to introduce evidence stating that Lana Clarkson was taking the drug Paxil for depression and not headaches, despite the fact that a headache specialist had written the prescription.

MEANWHILE, BEFORE COURT WAS IN SESSION:
Before the defense rested, Judge Larry Fidler asked Spector whether he waives his right to testify. Spector, with a lawyer whispering in his ear, told the judge in a hushed voice “Yes,” thus ending any speculation that he’d take the stand in his own defense.

David Lee Roth!!!!! Wooo!!

Sammy | 8/22/2007, 11:48 am EST

Spector is going down! Finally, justice for “Let it Be”. That douchebag should have been locked up for “producing” or what I call “vomiting” on that album. (Shitty ass strings and such on “The Long and Winding Road”). Thank god for Clarkson, that little sacrifitial lamb. American Idol is retarded anyway!

Chris L | 8/22/2007, 12:30 pm EST

Come on SAMMY listen to what he had to work with, half takes, missed cues, bad recordings, he made the album, Let It BE Naked with the stringless version of “the long and winding road” shows it to be a pretty shitty, slight half song..he made it.

CTmojo | 8/22/2007, 12:35 pm EST

It’s Lana Clarkson, B-list movie star, not Kelly Clarkson, American Idol pop-ho, dumbass.

Good Deal | 8/22/2007, 12:43 pm EST

I’m so sorry you made that comment Sammy. I’m so sorry… By the way, George Martin approved of that string arrangement after the fact and I think that counts for something.

Candace | 8/22/2007, 1:44 pm EST

Hopefully, Spector will be convicted and die in prison. In my opinion, he should have been incarcerated decades ago.

yeaaaaaaa stan | 8/22/2007, 1:47 pm EST

Why do i feel like rolling stone wants him to get off just because he’s a music producer? It’s like Black people rooting for OJ just because they have the same skin tone.

Charlie Miller | 8/22/2007, 1:47 pm EST

Dude, queens of the stone age rule.

Spaghetti | 8/22/2007, 1:56 pm EST

Genius is often tortured by demons. I feel sorry for him. We enjoyed his gifts to humanity, but he has reaped his own rewards from the fruit of his personal hell. Prayers to the family who endured his tormenting.

Sammy | 8/22/2007, 2:17 pm EST

George Martin? What does the Beatles manager have to do with this? You must be thinking of George Harrison. Nice try, pretty close though, both named George. Too bad not a single Beatle approved of that recording. Spector actually pulled a gun on John Lennon. “Let it Be, Naked” is fucking sweet! Don’t debate me. Stop watching American Idol you fucking sheep! Baaaaa! The Clarkson comment was this new thing, it’s pretty cool, it’s called a sarcastic remark. Some of you are pretty quick!

Lorrie, NC | 8/22/2007, 2:32 pm EST

It is absolutely obscene to me that this trial has gone on this long!! It seems totally apparent to me that Spector pulled the same routine with Clarkson that he does with woman after woman. Why doesn’t he spend some of his $ and buy a hooker? That can’t be any more ego-blasting than only being able to get laid at gunpoint. No matter who pulled the trigger, Spector introduced the gun into the situation and is responsible for whatever that charge would be. All this time and $ going into this obvious accidental shooting is ridiculous!!

Wayne | 8/22/2007, 2:37 pm EST

For the record…McCartney HATED what Spector did to Let It Be, which is why the raw version was released years later.

It’s a drag, but Spector’s fucked. He’s going to jail. However, he IS a nutjob according to hundreds of books and interviews. Lennon called him a “complex man”…a nice way of saying “he’s nuts”

Candace | 8/22/2007, 2:46 pm EST

An expert testified that the gun was forced into Ms. Clarkson’s mouth leaving bruising on her tongue. Getting “laid” at gunpoint is rape. Killing, accidental or not, in the commission of a rape should be a capital crime.

Sammy | 8/22/2007, 3:09 pm EST

Not one of the Beatles approved of that album. Spector even pulled a gun on John Lennon. Who gives a dick what George Martin approved? “Naked” is fucking bad ass, you should have another listen man, and stop watching American Idol. The Clarkson comment was this new thing, pretty fun really, it’s a sarcastic remark.

candace | 8/22/2007, 3:58 pm EST

Spector sounds like a rapist to me. Rape is a man’s desire to control a woman force & his will on her. It is hatred and rage. I think spector used the gun as a substitue and that it was an instrument of rape.

REKJR | 8/22/2007, 4:55 pm EST

she took his gun from him to commit sucide. I’m sure she wanted to die in a castle, yea right. Crazy mean you can’t cope rationaly. Crazy people shouldn’t have guns! Talent is not a subsitution for crazy, money is not a subsitution for crazy, it becomes grease so reality does’n have to stick. We think of these people as idols. YOU HAVE TO BE RESPONIBLE FOR YOUR ACTIONS.

candace | 8/22/2007, 5:24 pm EST

Clarkson did not commit suicide. Will the jury find that Clarkson was murdered by an enraged, control-freak maniac who was raping her with a gun when it discharged? Some of us believe that’s what happened.

bukowski | 8/22/2007, 11:18 pm EST

Enough is enough is enough is enough. I’m so burnt out on this I don’t even care what the verdict is. Free Phil Spector! Why not? What difference does it really make in the scheme of things? I think Michael Vick is far more evil than this gent. People disappoint all the time; animals just want love.

Candace | 8/22/2007, 11:56 pm EST

The rule of law has to been enforced to prevail. The alternative is brute-force rule.
It isn’t either/or Spector or Vick. Both should be punished if both are guilty of breaking the law.

Good Deal | 8/23/2007, 2:11 am EST

How did you all overlook Sammy’s incredibly stupid mistake? George Martin produced almost the entriety of The Beatles music. Brian Epstein was the manager. Hm, nice try jackass…

Sammy | 8/23/2007, 8:12 am EST

Good Deal… That first post was corrected with the next one. Entriety – Lern two sppel yoo twat.

bukowski | 8/23/2007, 7:35 pm EST

Why do people constantly pick on spelling mistakes? They happen. Most of the time it’s just a mistake that has nothing to do with intellect. Criticizing spelling is a really EASY diss that doesn’t require any thought. BTW, why you have to call someone a “twat” over a simple misspelling? Don’t you think that’s a little strong and excessive?

gunmetalgray | 8/24/2007, 2:38 am EST

dont forget the Ramones were bullied by this mad genius. that’s enough to count in hell for. Dee Dee will be waiting.
