Sheryl Crow, Avril Lavigne and Fiona Apple to Headline Girl-Centric Girlfrenzy Fest

8/21/07, 9:26 am EST

Eight years after the third and final Lilith Fair came to a close comes Girlfrenzy, an all-day all-girl concert featuring Sheryl Crow, Avril Lavigne and Fiona Apple. The first annual Girlfrenzy will take place on Saturday, October 27th at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Irvine, California, with a portion of ticket profits going to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The event was created by Right Arm Entertainment, the same company that presented the first annual Rock on the Range featuring Evanescence, ZZ Top and Velvet Revolver in Columbus, Ohio, earlier this year. Girlfrenzy will also feature performances by newcomers Colbie Caillat and Sara Bareilles, plus Antigone Rising, with promoters expected to announce more femme-centric acts in the coming weeks.

Sarah McLachlan’s Lilith Fair ran from 1997 to 1999 and had a similarly charitable bent, donating a portion of ticket profits to local charities in the cities the event hit. Although that fest became known for folkier acts like the Indigo Girls and Suzanne Vega, the tour also featured Liz Phair, Missy Elliott, the Pretenders, Christina Aguilera and Luscious Jackson. Crow and Apple are both Lilith Fair alumni, too.

Are there going to be other concerts? I went to lillith fair in 99 and was sad to know it was going to be the last?

Country Crotch | 8/21/2007, 11:47 am EST

Girlfrenzy is a bad name for this all-day concert. I suggest the organizers re-name this concert to “Vagina Fest 2007″. That has more appeal.

jellybeanswife | 8/21/2007, 11:49 am EST

Absolutely Awesome!!!
Go Girls!!! Me and my Girls are so there!!!

mc | 8/21/2007, 12:20 pm EST

All proceeds are going to the Breast Cancer Foundation? Why can’t all proceeds go to the enhancement of breasts and to the women with A cups that need some enhancing? I’ll buy a ticket for that.

jesus of suburbia | 8/21/2007, 1:11 pm EST

Big Bouncy you are a DICKHEAD!!!
Many guys actually like “A cups” & don’t like so-called “enhancements”.
Besides, why introduce MORE cancer causing chemicals into your body?
This is benefit is for a great cause & for some of us who’ve lost a loved one to cancer, like my Mom 10 years ago, your comments are very offensive.
Sheryl Crow is an inspiration to many women & other cancer survivors.
Maybe you should grow the fuck up a little “Big Bouncy” before you post stupid ass comments…

Actually the proceeds should go to the mental hospital where “jesus of suburbia” should be checking in at because from that posting of his, it looks like he could improve on his mental health.

Hey jesus idiot, if you thought I was serious about proceeds going to breast enhancement, then you’re the one who needs growing up. I truly believe this concert is for a great cause and I’m all for it. Lighten up dude! I posted it for laughs. Go listen to your baby shit Green Day music. I lost my grandparents to cancer. But life goes on! Stop dwelling on the past.

bobby-o | 8/21/2007, 1:48 pm EST

maybe you should buya sense of humor jesus

bukowski | 8/21/2007, 2:49 pm EST

Vagina Fest 2007. How do you come up with this stuff? You must be a genius!

Steely Day | 8/21/2007, 2:52 pm EST

You’ve been tellin’ me you’re a genius since we were 17. In all that time I knew you I still don’t know what you mean!!

Jay Zee | 8/21/2007, 3:36 pm EST

I’m all in favor of boobs whether for treatment or enhancement. Lets all give our support to boobs.

Gloria Steinem | 8/21/2007, 4:02 pm EST

Having Avril Lavigne on the bill completely shatters any credibility this event had.

Nikkidoo | 8/21/2007, 4:37 pm EST

For realz yo. Word.

candy-o | 8/21/2007, 6:11 pm EST

Bouncy, you’re an f-ing a$&hole!
That’s one thing which should NEVER be joked about. I lost my grandmother to breast cancer, jerk.

James | 8/21/2007, 10:57 pm EST

Two thirds of the headline I can see playing together on the same bill, but one-third just ain’t got it going on. Hope I’m wrong, and she’s well received. We’ll just have to see….

bukowski | 8/22/2007, 1:19 pm EST

Cheryl Crow proves that there nothing sexier on a beauatiful woman than a tight pair of jeans!

Big Bouncy B( . )( . )bies | 8/23/2007, 9:55 am EST

bunch of hypocrites and morons that post here. Esp “Dear Bouncy” who can call me a coward, but herself is not brave enough to put down a name.

Get a sense of humor people! And stop pretending you support a cause or are offended by nonesense. We all get offended by one thing or another. Who are you people to tell me what not to say here? Apparently the RS screeners who look over these comments let it stay.

You little immature girls got some growing up to do before you run off with the mouth. You haven’t exprerienced life yet. And yes, I lost grandparents to cancer and I’m sure there are many many people out there that know someone who lost their lives to cancer. But you know what… move the fuck on!

venus | 8/24/2007, 3:31 am EST

…and there is nothing sexier than men who respect women.

Jenny Mountebank | 8/26/2007, 10:12 pm EST

It is silly to get down on Avril or this concert because she is a part of it. She is a talented musician and has a lot of attitude, the sort of unapologetic attitude that does something truly revolutionary (unlike several other pop-punk woman artists) by not seting up hierarchies between women. Her music is fierce and femme positive, some of it is fun and some of it is moving. She also puts on a great live performance and is one of the few artists out there who sounds as good on stage as she does on recording.

I am glad Avril is part of the headliner lineup. Although I am also excited about Antigone Rising and whomever else pops up as part of the concert, it was Avril and her harder brand of music that convinced me to attend the event thanks. Besides which the event is called Girl -Frenzy- and Avril certainly brings the frenzy.

DIANE | 9/6/2007, 2:33 pm EST

Well, to those of you who think that joking about breast cancer is funny, whether it is meant to be hurtful or NOT… I had breast cancer,I am 46 years old… I lost my right breast to cancer and have had reconstruction surgery and I’d give anything to have been able to live the rest of my life with the breasts that God gave me..not reconstructed versions of the same… So screw you Big Bouncy… get a life… sounds your life needs ENHANCING!

DIANE | 9/6/2007, 2:37 pm EST

and another thing, big bouncy…. your grandparents would be ashamed to admit you were related to them…I have no doubt about that… you claim you post your comments in jest, joking, etc., but why do you need to use a site like this for your hateful comments? don’t they have a website for a##hol@@@ like you? or hey, use your spare time and start one!!!
I think the concert sounds awesome! amazing line up, Avril is not soooo bad and hey, the cause couldn’t be better!!! ROCK ON LADIES!!!
