Bob Dylan Pic “I’m Not There” Trailer; Film Will Open in Four Theaters Before Wide Release

First things first: click above to watch the trailer for the film Rock Daily is clearly fascinated with, Todd Haynes’ Bob Dylan-inspired I’m Not There.

Plus, in an interview in today’s New York Times, indie-film bigwig Harvey Weinstein, whose Weinstein Company will distrbute I’m Not There, explains how fans will be able to get to see the movie — slowly, over time. On November 21st, it will open on four screens in New York and Los Angeles (Film Forum and Lincoln Plaza in New York; Westside Pavilion and ArcLight Cinemas in LA) before eventually hitting one hundred American cities. “With a movie like this you have to build it,” said Weinstein. “I like the movie; I think it’s adventurous. The audience is going to have to work — work in a good way.”

And Weinstein thinks one of the film’s Dylans should be preparing an Oscar acceptance speech: “I may be jumping the gun,” Weinstein said, “But if Cate Blanchett doesn’t get nominated, I’ll shoot myself.” As Rock Daily can attest, Blanchett delivers a pretty extraordinary performance.

“Ball-sy” project considering Dylan is a complete enigma. This will be one person’s concept of who Dylan might be. I suspect it will be primarily a work of fiction, but the real questions are: Will it be enjoyable? Will it make the viewer consider other possibilities outside their own? Will Dylan even view it? That, I would love to know. Cheers, Dylan!! You are a fascinating individual and your art is mesmerizing.

Well.. regarding Kate looking too much like a girl… Dylan looks a little “chick-like” in those old clips from the early 60’s tours. All that fluffy hair and doe eyes, and eyelashes you could dust a table with. If you watch “No Direction Home,” or the other documentaries with that type of footage, you might notice it yourself.

i think shia labeouf could have been a much better younger dylan than Cate blanchet. He almost looks like him, if you look at “Mr. Tambourine man” in No Direction home. But still, Cate Blanchet is pretty good.

wow. looks very good, if i had to guess, dylan is down with it, we all know what happens when the film is crap and dylan is against it (factory girl) so im sure he is down with it since his songs are in the movie, and yeah kate looks like a girl a little bibt, but i know she is amazing, and i know the film will be brilliant… just watch the trailer…. very tasty

It should have opened at the State Theatre in Hibbing. Oh,I forgot. They tore it down.
