Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Magic’: Exclusive Details on New E Street Band Album

8/16/07, 11:51 am EST

On October 2nd Bruce Springsteen will release Magic, his first album with the E Street Band since 2002’s The Rising. “We’ve been together since 1974 and I don’t think I’ve ever seen him more excited than he is right now about this record,” says Jon Landau, Springsteen’s manager.

The album was cut over two months at Southern Tracks studios in Atlanta with producer Brendan O’Brien, who previously worked with Springsteen on 2005’s Devils & Dust and The Rising.

The E Street Band mostly flew down on weekends to record, while Springsteen and O’Brien spent weekdays cutting vocals and recording overdubs. “This album is E Street Band heavy,” Landau says. “Clarence [Clemons] has some great moments on it. You could say that it’s a little more sonically guitar-driven than any past Bruce album. There are a few sort of pop, romantic touches that haven’t shown up recently, but were very prominent on the very early records.”

The lead single will be “Radio Nowhere,” a track Landau says “has a real anthemic quality to it. If it doesn’t get you out of your seat, I don’t know what will.” Landau is particularly excited about “The Long Walk Home,” which was performed live (click here to listen to an audience recording) on one occasion on the Seeger Sessions tour late last year. “It’s sort of the summational song of the album,” Landau says. “I think it’s one of Bruce’s great masterpieces.” Another track, “Girls in Their Summer Clothes,” Landau says has a “little bit of a Pet Sounds-type feeling mixed in with the sound of the E Street Band.” The final track, “Devil’s Arcade,” is described as one of the only songs on the album that delves into politics. “He gets some images across that are very powerful and will certainly give you a feeling of where he’s coming from, but on balance [politics] is not the primary intention of this record.”

A world tour with the E Street Band is reportedly going to kick off in early October, but Landau remains tight-lipped on the details. “As we speak, the tour has not been fully decided,” he says. Springsteen is also planning to promote the album on television, including late-night talk shows.

“What do you think about us doing American Idol?” Landau asks. “Come on, I’m kidding!”

Track Listing:

1. “Radio Nowhere”
2. “You’ll Be Comin’ Down”
3. “Livin’ in the Future”
4. “Your Own Worst Enemy”
5. “Gypsy Biker”
6. “Girls in Their Summer Clothes”
7. “I’ll Work for Your Love”
8. “Magic”
9. “Last to Die”
10. “Long Walk Home”
11. “Devil’s Arcade”

Great news, this album will be great. Now if Rolling Stone would only report on the album John Mellencamp is currently recording with T-Bone Burnett producing, we’d really have something to shout about.

Jordan | 8/16/2007, 12:11 pm EST

Finally! This record is gonna rock!

behrkings98 | 8/16/2007, 12:14 pm EST

Good stuff…good stuff.

nathan | 8/16/2007, 12:15 pm EST

Awesome! Praise the rock gods for the E Street Band.

Joe | 8/16/2007, 12:19 pm EST

We need Bruce and E Street more than ever!

Aaron | 8/16/2007, 12:30 pm EST

So Bruce is gonna be on the cover come October, right? Right?

On a side note, I hope this album is continued in the same vein as Seeger Sessions (i.e. more fun). Devils and The Rising are both amazing CD’s but it’s a different sort of Bruce.

I want Rosalita Bruce back.

CharlieH | 8/16/2007, 12:31 pm EST

Hallelujah!

Alex | 8/16/2007, 12:32 pm EST

Could October 2nd come any sooner?!?!?!?!

tyler | 8/16/2007, 12:33 pm EST

Please stop the madness !! It’s time to move on.Right? New blood is needed.I Can’t believe living in the past is worth it.Bruce is like good golly miss molly !It’s time to move on.

kuntwhore | 8/16/2007, 12:36 pm EST

I hate tyler

Alex | 8/16/2007, 12:38 pm EST

How many shows are you all going to go to this tour?

I’d like to hit all of them, but realistically, I’d say 30-40!!!!!

David S. | 8/16/2007, 12:42 pm EST

Tyler,

I think you have been on this earth long enough too. Let us know how to “reach” you!
Great news!

Jughead | 8/16/2007, 12:43 pm EST

Bruce Springsteen is like that dreaded uncle of yours that comes over the house and never wants to leave. It’s like, C’mon will you leave already? That’s Bruce. Just when you thought this guy is out of the public eye, boom, new album coming out and we’re gonna have no choice but to hear about it again.

John | 8/16/2007, 12:43 pm EST

I hate Tyler too :P This record’s gonna kicks ass.

Jeff C. | 8/16/2007, 12:46 pm EST

Finally the greatest live performer in the history of rock (yep I said and it’s true) has a new ROCK album coming out with the great, great E-Street Band! My day could not be happier. God bless Bruce.

JJ Girl | 8/16/2007, 12:54 pm EST

BRUCE IS A GOD.

Ruben | 8/16/2007, 1:03 pm EST

It’s funny yesterday I was happy and I was not sure why, I guess it was a feeling of these great news to come!

Hope this is that rock album we have been longing for such a long time.

Jeff C. | 8/16/2007, 1:12 pm EST

From everything that has been said before this news came out and now everything Jon Landau is saying, it is Ruben. Bruce is turning it up to 11!

Ryan | 8/16/2007, 1:16 pm EST

This is TREMENDOUS news. This helps wipe the feeling of icky I still have on me after that Van Halen reunion. Bruce is God.

Beth | 8/16/2007, 1:20 pm EST

Tyler & Jughead are idiots!

Springsteen is God!

Marcus | 8/16/2007, 1:22 pm EST

gotta save money… gotta save money… gotta save money…

SHAWN | 8/16/2007, 1:45 pm EST

ANOTHER MASTERPIECE ON THE WAY

July 4, 1986 Wembley Stadium | 8/16/2007, 1:48 pm EST

Jeff C. I agree. You cannot appreciate The Boss and the E Street Band until you have experienced a live show.

61SPUR | 8/16/2007, 1:55 pm EST

I hope the tour is going to be in venues big enough to give us a chance to get tickets.
The last 2 tours have been really tough!

BK | 8/16/2007, 1:59 pm EST

Listen to “Tweeter and the Monkey Man” on the just re-released Travelling Wilburys CD. Great, funny song about the Boss.

Mule | 8/16/2007, 2:09 pm EST

Finally, THE BOSS returns!!!

Tyler, Jughead, go listen to AFI, Fall Out Boy, and whoever the hell else the FLAVOR OF THE WEEK is at this very FLEETING moment!

Mule | 8/16/2007, 2:11 pm EST

Sorry, BK: “Tweeter’s” not about the Boss (though that’s a popular theory) it’s merely Bob poking fun at himself.

rpence | 8/16/2007, 2:23 pm EST

The King is Back. Long live King Steen!

rpence | 8/16/2007, 2:25 pm EST

Even if Dylan was making fun of Bruce, I’m sure Bruce would’ve been flattered. It’s not every day that someone of Dylan’s stature takes time to poke a little fun.

Spencer | 8/16/2007, 2:30 pm EST

BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCE!!

Russell | 8/16/2007, 2:31 pm EST

an new springsteen album and a new mellencamp album? how great does life get.

Mike | 8/16/2007, 2:43 pm EST

Can’t wait to hear this new albumn. For the guy Tyler who says to move on – By all means move on. Even nearing 60, everything the guy puts out is quaility music. Just b/c someones old doesn’t mean he can’t rock. I’ll take springsteen in 2007 over most of the modern crap that’s out there today.

Bossbabe | 8/16/2007, 2:47 pm EST

Just what I needed to encourage me to a)get a part time job or b)quit buying Starbucks and SAVE FOR THE TOURS!!! My life just got fun again!!!!

Ross | 8/16/2007, 2:53 pm EST

Damn, this is great news…and “Magic” what a fitting title for what may possibly be the last E Street Band Album by Bruce.

Bob in Australia ! | 8/16/2007, 2:54 pm EST

Hey Bruce, will – “You’ll Be Comin’ Down,” Under ? ”
We are the one’s, who literally and happily, would take that “Long Walk Home” with you !

Beatle6769 | 8/16/2007, 2:57 pm EST

excellent! its odd though, it seems like the release is a little close, seeing as how ive never heard about it until now! I’m just glad the E street is getting back together for this one. There was a reference to “the early days”, is it possible he was referencing E street shuffle?

The Weapn | 8/16/2007, 2:58 pm EST

Bruce and the E Street Band cut through the compost that poses as today’s pop music scene like 300 Spartans cutting through the Persian Army. Bring on the tour – The Queen and I will be there!

Jan | 8/16/2007, 2:59 pm EST

As a prisoner of rock and roll i ‘am glad Bruce that there seems to be no way out.

Thanks in advange

Debbie | 8/16/2007, 3:01 pm EST

Great news!! Finally an E Street album again!!!
Let there be an European tour soon please!

Bandini | 8/16/2007, 3:02 pm EST

Great!!!!!
It wille be great!!!!
We’re waiting for such a long time.
And “cerise sur le gâteau” Bruce will be in Paris Bercy on 17th december.
Great!
So beautiful for the french i am.

Lerkst | 8/16/2007, 3:02 pm EST

When the Rising—the song–first came on the radio, I had kind of lost touch with Bruce. Then I hear something that no one has done for a decade–written an anthem. I felt like I had been runover by a train when I first heard it. Bruce is returning with his band, and the earth will quake when they play. Calling him old and passe…he’s the ONLY artist his age that is turning out MORE music now, then when he was young. Also, his music IS more relative than the majority of music released. He’s called the Boss for a reason.

EK | 8/16/2007, 3:09 pm EST

Every once in a while, someone with tunnel vision will creep in here to ream those who love The Beatles, Eagles, Stones, Seger, Mac, Who and Bruce, et al, out. You wonder why they have no sense of history.
I have to wonder about the future of rock when the true musicians and lyricists of this genre–those who came out of the 60’s and 70’s–have hung it up for good. I’m thankful these folks –Bruce, Paul, Dylan, Seger, Eagles, Who and others–still have the fire to make records and tour, despite the Tylers of the world.

Wendy | 8/16/2007, 3:12 pm EST

Just listened to “Long Walk Home”. How does the guy do it, year after year? The song sent chills down my spine and brought a tear to my eye. Nobody can do it like Bruce does.

Uncle sjohie | 8/16/2007, 3:21 pm EST

Great news, and since you’re in Paris allready, will you come on over to Rotterdam?

Uncle sjohie

bernie of austria | 8/16/2007, 3:22 pm EST

Strrrrrrrrrike!
Thats great.
Wherever they are going to play, I´ll be going down there if you need a ride- A man on the radio says Elvis Presley died.
Johnny bye bye.
B-side of I`m on fire 1984

Sounds like Gypsy Biker could be The follow up to B2R,i’m guessing it’s about Wendy

Ray | 8/16/2007, 3:46 pm EST

I saw Springsteen in 1974 at the Main Point (honest) , and have been a fan ever since. He never disappoints, and the band is always great. I am now 50, and I can’t wait to feel lika a kid again.

JP | 8/16/2007, 3:59 pm EST

It’s ok not to like Bruce. He’d be ok with that too. But those of us who’ve been to so many concerts we can’t count KNOW the man is the best. The best? 12th row, opening night, July 2, 1981, Brendan Byrne Arena, The Meadowlands, NJ (of course) Tyler probably wasn’t even born yet, and Bruce kicked butt…

Steven James | 8/16/2007, 3:59 pm EST

Move along Tyler and Jughead. There’s nothing for you to see here. To everyone else, HELL YES!

bobadis | 8/16/2007, 4:01 pm EST

THE BOSS IS BACK,THE BAND IS BACK WATCH OUT WE ARE GONNA ROCK!!!

Rich N. | 8/16/2007, 4:02 pm EST

Come on October 2nd!! Do you really think anyone would be this excited in 35 years if some of the record company manufactured ‘groups’ came out with an album? Please. Let it rock.

Donna | 8/16/2007, 4:02 pm EST

Amen! guess I’d better start saving my money and vacation days for the tour!!!

BIGGEST BRUCE FAN !! | 8/16/2007, 4:25 pm EST

All right! Can’t wait for the new Bruce Springstreet CD to come out. I’ve been listening to Springstreet for ages! And it should be great with Clarence Thomas contributing. Man, looking forward to the new album and seeing Springstreet and the G Street Band in concert!!

Thank you!

Felipe | 8/16/2007, 4:29 pm EST

Hey Bruce, please do a South American tour or Im going to have to spend all my money to travel somewhere to see you this time. You are the greatest!

IGOR FROM ANTARCTICA | 8/16/2007, 4:36 pm EST

Hey Bruce I would to see your band play live here in Antarctica. All 58 people who live here will come see you perform! I am a big fan and can’t wait until new album comes out. Although it comes out in October it probably won’t get shipped here until January, but I don’t care! Long live Bruce!

Cindy | 8/16/2007, 4:41 pm EST

Bruce,

Please, please, please perform at Yankee Stadium before the Yanks move to the new stadium. It would be a GREAT finale. (After the Yanks win the series of course).

Pork Chop | 8/16/2007, 5:01 pm EST

Hey Bruce,

Disregard Cindy’s stupid posting below. Please perform at SHEA STADIUM before the Mets move to their new stadium and after the METS win the Series. Yankees suck – don’t play in their corrupt and greed filled environment. Thanks,

High as Balls | 8/16/2007, 5:01 pm EST

If you have never seen Bruce and the E-Street band live – get to it! This is one of the best live performances you’ll probably ever see no matter what you’re musical tastes are. As far as Mellencamp – I lost a lot of respect after he decided to sell-out to Chevy to promote his album. I hate sell-outs and so does Bruce by the way. Mellencamp doesn’t even compare to Bruce as a singer/ songwriter plus he doesn’t have the legendary E-Street band.

We are thrilled to hear that there will be more of Bruce’s music in our lives with “Magic”. As devoted fans that goes back decades now, it is always something to look forward to when Bruce (and the E Street Band) give us some new music and thoughts to reflect on, enjoy, and sometimes even pray with. We often use Bruce’s music with our ministry in a Catholic parish…they are always so rich with symbolism and deep thought…not to mention the music itself.
So looking forward to it!!

The problem with Bruce is, you hear him in concert and the songs all sound great, then you go home and listen to the records and you can’t believe how awful they sound.

You’re right that he’s the best live performer around, because he makes those crappy songs sound halfway decent in concert.

My husband introduced me to Bruce and the E Street band over 20 years ago. Loved it. Then, soon after that, he was touring I was 8 months pregnant with our first child and couldn’t go. (My husband did go anyway) That first child is now 19 and in basic training for the National Guard. Over the years we have taken both of our Boys to Bruce Concerts. What an experience! I just hope They play here in Greensboro Mid Dec. That is when our oldest son will be back from Advanced Training for the National Guard. It would be wonderful to have that experience with our son again as a family!

njbosslady | 8/16/2007, 7:58 pm EST

I agree with Mission Man below(very well said, STEVE!). Bruce touches my very soul, and I listen to his voice every single day of my life. I can’t wait for his tour and I know this album will be a HUGE SUCCESS.
I’ll be a huge fan of his for the rest of my life!

Knuckle Bonezz!!! | 8/16/2007, 8:01 pm EST

THE BOSS is a legend. His early stuff, and I’ll even give it up ofr “BORN IN THE U.S.A” By far his best stuff was his early music. I just think a new L.P is a waste. 1st of all nobiody cares about any of the really older artist (aka. the stones, areosmith does britney spears type new release’s etc. etc)doing new material. VAN HALEN has it right they have a brand new look, and are basicly re-releasing the VH ONE tour, and after that they are going to the studio, and that’s only because they haven’t been together for most of 2 decades, and people are screaming for them to record.Like the BOSS they have so much classic material that coninues to get endless airplay, a new release probably isn’t going anyway except for the facts I just mentioned.

MISSION MAN | 8/16/2007, 8:05 pm EST

THIS MISSION MAN IS FRANK NOT STEVE,BUT THATS COOL.ROCK ON NJBOOSSLADDY!

Who Cares? | 8/16/2007, 8:09 pm EST

Bruce sucks.

I’ll stick with the Beatles, the Who, Floyd, Zep, VH, Stones, Nirvana, Soundgarden and Alice in Chains.

Sin | 8/16/2007, 8:11 pm EST

Re Knuckle Bonezz!!! : I agree that many of these older artists shouldn’t release new material..but to me Bruce is an exception. His last 3 releases were amazing well received and more importantly of the highest quality. He still puts ouit great music, that’s why people are excited about tghis new record.

Vagina Penetrator | 8/16/2007, 8:14 pm EST

First the Police go on tour, then Van Halen announce a tour, the Eagles are coming out with a new CD and now Springsteen is coming out with a new CD. Looks like all the old farts are coming out of hibernation in 2007! Yaayyyyy!!

Steve M | 8/16/2007, 8:16 pm EST

I NEED some guitar-slinging, bass- pumpin’, keyboard-rattlin’, drum-bustin’,deep down lung beltin’, ROCK ‘n ROLL!!! and, it’s gotta be Bruce and Company, they single-handedly saved music back in the early seventies, and WE need it again! Big man, you better be blowin’ long and hard, too!!! anywhere within the solar system near Cleveland, I am there.

YUSEF FROM BAGHDAD, IRAQ! | 8/16/2007, 8:19 pm EST

All right Allah has granted us good fortune with new Bruce Springsteen CD. I am very much looking forward to this. I hope Bruce come to Iraq and play here to all his fans. He will unite all the people here of all religions and maybe there will finally be peace here. But Bruce if you play here, please don’t play “Born in the USA”.

Bruce Springsteen on “American Idol”? Bruce Springsteen IS the American Idol.

barry | 8/16/2007, 9:14 pm EST

alright, bruce and the e st. band are coming back. can’t wait to see what they pull out on this upcoming tour. after what they did for both the reunion and the rising tours, where bruce pulled out almost everything, this tour should be just as good.

Magic Man | 8/16/2007, 9:16 pm EST

Let us rejoice….for Bruce is back.

Brian R. | 8/16/2007, 9:29 pm EST

To Tyler and Jughead.

Have you ever witness a Springsteen show? If not your disqualified from any real discussion.
And, how about listing your favs so that the rest of us can get an idea of where you stand in the rock n’ roll spectrum? Obviously,Journey is a given.

Chitown | 8/16/2007, 9:29 pm EST

Best rock & roll show there is but just keep the left wing blathering out!!!!

Hoosier Daddy | 8/16/2007, 9:33 pm EST

Good golly miss molly all over again? Are you kidding me? Posts like that just prove that Rolling Stone is obsolete. It’s no longer the place to get the real news on real rock and roll. You people should stick with Britney Spears and Kanye West. You deserve each other. Do they even write their own songs?

MISSION MAN | 8/16/2007, 9:33 pm EST

SPRINGSTEEN IS AN ARTIST THAT CONSTANTLY RECREATES HIMSELF AND STILL CAN CONNECT TO HIS AUDIENCE.WHILE MOST BANDS MENTIONED EARLIER ARE WILLING TO SELL OUT FOR A BUCK,BRUCE HAS NEVER AND WILL NEVER DO THIS.IT IS AMAZING HOW POWERFUL AND PERSONEL HIS MUSIC IS.HE TOUCHES LIVES AND STILL PUTS ON THE GREATEST ROCK AND ROLL MUSIC SHOW ON EARTH.

tyler | 8/16/2007, 9:46 pm EST

Yes,I have seen Bruce more then once and i like Bruce! It’s time to move on and seach for the great band’s that are out there now.Bruce had his day.He peaked along time ago!The boss man is retired!!

he live’s

Brian R. | 8/16/2007, 9:57 pm EST

Why must he retire? Who says there is a break off age for ‘who can rock and who can’t. Please I ask you to list your ‘Bands of the future’. Let’s move this discussion on. Who is going to have a career of thirty years in Rock and still be as vital today as he was than? You nor I have even heard the forst chords from the new release yet you’ve all ready condemned it becasue he’s….what again….older?

This isn’t your typical “summer tour band’. This is THE E STREET BAND.

MISSION MAN | 8/16/2007, 9:59 pm EST

TYLER,HAVE FUN IN YOUR SEARCH WHILE WE LISTEN TO KICK-ASS ROCK.

EK | 8/16/2007, 9:59 pm EST

tyler, do yourself a favor and compare lyrics. See if there is anyone remotely close to the old masters, most notably Bruce. Perhaps you think it’s 50 Cent. Just where is written that a rock artist needs to “retire”, anyway? Just where is the line drawn that states an artist can no longer be relevant?
BTW, Bruce…keep your political views coming, as well. It seems only people like you and Eddie Vedder can wake people from their collective comas. Perhaps the recent talk of a draft will help, too.

tyler | 8/16/2007, 10:08 pm EST

I don’t like Vedder or 50 cent!I’m just saying it’s time to move on.Bruce had his day and it’s been year’s since he was really good!Living in the past for old glory maybe? That’s cool!

Brew | 8/16/2007, 10:16 pm EST

I guess that’s just your opinion. Everybody should relax there’s just 2 or 3 people on here that said negative things about Bruce..not everybody’s gonna like him, even if he is a legend ;) You should have check out this site a few days ago, the amount of negative things said about that laughable Van Halen reunion.

Brian R. | 8/16/2007, 10:27 pm EST

Brew is right. I guess I just want more substance from those throwing out comments. If I’m going to make a statement I’m going to try to back it uo. Saying somebody should retire just doesn’t do it. I’d love to know who I should be listening to today. Trust me, I don’t live in the archives of music library. I love all music and would be thrilled with a new young voice. I don’t know if the music industry TODAY will allow it to happen. Today you have to sell your soul to the devil to survive.

david | 8/16/2007, 10:34 pm EST

bruce is a living legend.
his live shows are legendary
his lyrics are rock solid.
his lifestyle is just plain normal.
his personality is average joe.
his band is one of the best.
his guitar playing is top notch.
his harmonica playing is one of the best around.
he is well respected in and out of the industry.
i can go on and on.
if you do not like bruce springsteen then you do not like rock r roll or what it stands for. the freedom to express yourself with no boundaries / restrictions. making music for yourself and getting a following is never easy in the music indusry. bruce is one of the first artist to own his music & have 100% say in every aspect of his career.
if there is a negative thing i can say about him is that he has put out too few records.
if you think bruce should retire then Ozzy, Dylan, Sting, W. Nelson, should be long gone too.
you know nothing about music and please stick to the american idol chat line and leave the real music talk to us pros :)

Who Cares? | 8/16/2007, 10:39 pm EST

David, you’re a sycophantic idiot….here’s a great example of the amazing lyrics of the Boss:

“57 channels and nuttin on”

“I was born in the USA
Born in the USA
Born in the USA
Born in the USA”

Oh, and….

“Born in the USA
Born in the USA
Born in the USA”

Get over yourselves, morons!

GLRYDZ | 8/16/2007, 10:40 pm EST

Rock is his forte.

On the eighth day God said, “Let there be Rock”

He created Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, he heard the music and it was GREAT.

Here endith the lesson

The boss isn`t called the boss for nothing.
He`s been around as long as rock and rolll was good.
He`s solid and shall remain thay way in the music scene til he`s ready to hang it up.

ken vail | 8/16/2007, 10:55 pm EST

ok…someone wrote about idiotic lyrics? listen to ATLANTIC CITY, THE TIES THAT BIND, CANDY’S ROOM, JUNGLELAND, DOWNBOUND TRAIN, TUNNEL OF LOVE, DEVILS AND DUST, DRIVE ALL NIGHT…there’s many examples of bruce’s lyrical brilliance…plus BORN IN THE USA is a pretty deep song if you look past the anthetic chorus….you’re obviously a non-fan whomever made that comment.

tyler | 8/16/2007, 10:57 pm EST

fall out boy sucks!!I’m just saying Bruce has been living past his peak.Which was so long ago!!Chuck berry was great at one time! It’s great to live in the past. The rolling stones, van halen, and so on were great. It’s just the oldie but goodie show!John Lennon said once. It’s only show business!!

Brian R. | 8/16/2007, 11:06 pm EST

Fantastic news about Bruces new album and tour. Just read the comments, everyone entitled to their own etc etc but Bruce touches your soul and has touched mine for over 27 years. No one can compare live in fact I swear he gets better!Saw him in Dublin last year, best ever seen him. We got a brand new arena in Liverpool opening next year can anyone get this news to Bruce so he can come and play in the hometown of the Beatles wow! what a concert that would be!

David Bullock, Hibaldstow, UK | 8/17/2007, 6:03 am EST

Can’t wait! Just a coincidence that Bruce announces the album on the 30th anniversary of Elvis’s death? I don’t think so!

The beauty of Bruce is that he’s not afraid to challenge his audience; folk, acoustic, rock, its all Bruce and thats what counts!

Simon | 8/17/2007, 6:06 am EST

For the people who don’t care.. well you obviously care enough to take the time to post. At least I’m not spending my time going to sites of bands I don’t like to diss ‘em, I got better things to do in my life (like listening to Bruce).

Ger Horgan DIngle Kerry Irelan | 8/17/2007, 7:01 am EST

Steve | 8/17/2007, 8:09 am EST

Ger Horgan DIngle Kerry Irelan,

I agree with Tyler. Bruce peaked a long time ago. I’ve seen Bruce about 35 times, and he is not writing nor singing like the days of ‘Greetings’, ‘Born to Run’, ‘Darkness’, or ‘The River’ tours. Still a good show to see, don’t get me wrong, but with $100 tickets these days, its not the same as in the early days where his tickets were always the cheapest and with concerts 3+ hours.

Christian | 8/17/2007, 8:50 am EST

At last.. a new record by the greatest artist in the last three decades! (ever?)I`we been to every consert he`s played in Norway since the early ninties. I`ve been a fan for 25yrs. He`s been doing this for over 30yrs and is stil able to come up with something new. And Tyler, move on if you like.. but let the rest of us enjoy the Magic.. It`s been a long time comin`!

Big Man | 8/17/2007, 11:01 am EST

Defending Bruce and his music is pointless because it shouldn’t have to be done. I was going to respond to an idiots comment about bruce’s lyrics but there is no hope for that person. Just ask his peers. Isn’t there a reason why his peers call him a poet and an amazing songwriter?
Stay home when the tickets go on sale….We don’t need you

jungleland | 8/17/2007, 11:07 am EST

I am not a fan of Brendan O Brien’s production of Springsteen (and I did not like Devils & Dust at all) but if this CD will have a real E Street sound then I’m sure it will be worthwhile

Of course Bruce has peaked, but there are still a few gems on each record and the concerts remain fantastic

Some of you people are pure fucking idiots. Springsteen, along with Pearl Jam and the Stones, are the only real musicians left. This country has listened to so much rap and garbaghe from the other PRETENDERS that it is sickening. Reading some of these comments shows how stupid the mainstream of America really is. The BOYS are back, thank God, and for you people who don’t like it, tough shit. Go listen to Kanye West or Amy Winehouse or some of the other pieces of shit available.

Steve | 8/17/2007, 1:54 pm EST

in response to username RIGHT,

I saw the ‘Rising’ tour maybe 4-5 times..it was good, and perhaps the last decent record Bruce has made. I’m just been disappointed lately with a few of his actions such as $100 tickets, telling some of his Jersey fans to f*ck off at one his shows even though there was a legitimate sound problem, way too much political bs instead of rock and roll, and now it looks like his latest song (preview above) ‘Long Walk Home’ sounds a lot like ‘All the Way Home’ in some respects. Let’s just hope this CD lives up to all of the hype and anticipation, conserts are long and short on political bs, and that tickets are reasonably priced.

Damien Sheridan County Meath I | 8/17/2007, 2:14 pm EST

Just wondering if anyone out there would have any info on following the band around on tour.I was thinking of going to all the shows in europe and hopefully one or two in America. Any info??? Great to hear the boss is back

Long Time Fan | 8/17/2007, 2:45 pm EST

Can’t wait for the E-Street sparks again! Just lay off the politics in the music and tours, Bruce. Everyone has opinions and they base them on what facts they want to hear and believe…and you know what opinions are like…everybody has one. For the music, remember what Bruce once said, “Trust the art, not the artist”, and we’ll all enjoy this music regardless of political opinions.

crazy janey | 8/17/2007, 3:07 pm EST

I’ve been a loyal fan since ‘75 (late bloomer, I know). Grew up (still growin’ up) with Bruce writing the soundtrack to my life.

Love his rock and roll, love his solo stuff maybe more, for different reasons. His poetry is consistently brilliant and never trite, his stories are timeless (Thunder Road still takes me back to high school) his anthems resonate with a generation.
Name one song that has a more powerful line than: I believe in the love that you gave me, I believe in the faith that can save me, I believe and I hope and I pray that some day it may raise me above these badlands… really, I would like to hear it!

Anyway, when I die I want to be reincarnated as Bruce’s harmonica. I think that would be a religious experience.

MISSION MAN | 8/17/2007, 3:48 pm EST

This is a great day indeed. I mean here is a rock singer that can portrait 4 decades in one song “My Hometown”, 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s. It would take a writer at least 500 pages to do so. The Boss did it in less than 5 minutes. Only one can be The Boss!!

Sounds great. But the title is a bit boring. “Magic”. It reminds me of Olivia Newton John and ELO. Not very original. Maybe I have to get used to it, or just listen to the record. Time will tell. I’m very exited (and from Norway, excuse mye bad english) as always with a new Bruce Springsteen album.

I can hardly wait for the new CD and I hope I can see him in Brazil again… Please, Bruce, come down here and make me and my friends happy. You don´t know how much you´re loved here. When we are together, you´re always “singing” for us! Greetings from São Paulo, Brazil.

Christian | 8/17/2007, 6:22 pm EST

Hi Steve! I`ve read about the show where he tells a few of his fans to f..k off. He was not aware that there was a problem with the sound. So, he thought that he was being tackled. And when has rock`n roll been anything but politics? Springsteen, Dylan, Waits, Seger, Cohen.. all the great artist have one thing in common. they have a social conscience, and they have the right to voice that conscince. And they will be rememberd because of it. I really belive that his greatest work is yet to come.. So, keep on rocking my friends!

7)factory

there’s lots of springsteen imagery to be sure.

Sandy – They’re the lyrics of the day – “Grab your ticket and your suitcase/Thunder’s rolling down the track”
Crazy Janey – What a thought – to be reincarnated as Bruce’s harmonica!
To all Springsteen fans – It’s been a long wait but now Bruce and the E Street Band are almost back. Heaven! I’m so anxious to hear his new lyrics and music. There are so many bad things going on in the world, we need Bruce and his magic.

Devilsndust41 | 8/17/2007, 11:43 pm EST

Awesome!!! Looking forward to another great album and tour. Haven’t been lucky enough to see the E-Street Band but saw unbelievable concert for Devils and Dust tour, 2-2 1/2 hours. Doesn’t come to Canada, West Coast often. Great news, hopefully he’ll come to the West Coast.

In Response to some of the earlier posts I have to question some of what was said. I like everyone else love to rock to bruce but for people to say they just want him to play and not be political or social in his music they really miss the point and haven’t been paying attention to his music and lyrics. Also, if you don’t wish to hear about or listen to him you don’t have to, just change the station or the channel, simple how easy it is. Nobody is forcing or forces anything down your throat, you can choose to listen or watch or not, if you want to listen to Bruce, “Fine”, if not simply don’t. I’ll repeat myself, simply change the channel or the station if you’re not interested.

This is for “Steve”; “Jughead”; “Syd Barrett”; “Drowned in River”; “Tyler”; “Who Cares”; or any others with similar attitudes.

Please go back to your CD’s, LP’s etc… and check out the lyrics!!! You will find Political and Social overtones throughout. Nebraska was all about social issues, as was the River. Check the lyrics of the River and other songs; the CD Live 75-85 River version has him relating a story about “Vietnam” and how he wasn’t drafted, not to mention the song “War”.

Also, Without trying to offend anyone, though I probably will, the album “Born in the USA” was political. Please check the lyrics of Born in the USA, My Hometown, and others. These are not anthems celebrating how great the US is, even though he loves the US and wouldn’t live anywhere else. Or how about “Philadelphia”, “57 Channels and Nothing On”, “41 Shots” and many more, all songs with a message.

jim schmidt | 8/18/2007, 2:58 pm EST

Lame title for a record. And why doesn’t he get a better producer to work with? His records always have an overproduced, dated sound. He needs s prodcuer who makes sure there are no generic Bruce songs on the record–ie Mary’s Room.

Yeah, the pre-mentioned title “Radio nowhere” sounded way cooler but I guess they decided to call it “Magic” because the name of the tour would be the “Magic Tour”. I´m sadly thinking this will be his last album and tour with the E-Street Band and that´s why the album´s title.I hope i´m wrong.
BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN AND THE E-STREET BAND 4EVER!!! BRUCE´S THE MAN!!

Simply stated – His music and live performances over the last 30+ years have made addicts of those of us brave enough to open up and allow the Spirit of Rock and Roll in. So many today fear the addictive power of Rock & Roll! They dabble in weaker vices like Rap and Techno, Goth and the Internet. Until you have taken that first hit of pure uncut 100% BRUCE, you are a non-believer. Those who fear and condemn Bruce, fear and condemn life. Come on……..take a sip, try just a little bit – once you are under the true influence of the transforming power of REAL live Rock & Roll – you to will anticipate & celebrate your next dose. On October 2cnd my ADDICTION will be satisfied (until the next hit.

Wendy,

Found a version of Gonna Be A Long Walk Home by Googling it. Not sure if it’s illegal so I deleted it after hearing it.

here are the lyrics of this “work in progress”:

Last night I stood at your doorstep
Trying to figure out what went wrong
You slipped something into my palm and you were gone

It was the same deep green of summer
‘Bove me the same night sky was glowin’
In the distance I could see the town where I was born

It’s gonna be a long walk home
Hey pretty darling, don’t wait up for me
Gonna be a long walk home
Hey pretty darling, don’t wait up for me
Gonna be a long walk home

I walked past Sal’s grocery
Joe’s barber shop on South Street
I looked into the faces*
They were all rank strangers to me*
Veteran’s Hall up upon the hill
Stood dark and alone
Frankie’s diner was shuttered and boarded
With a sign that just said “gone”

It’s gonna be a long walk home
Hey pretty darling, don’t wait up for me
Gonna be a long walk home
Hey pretty darling, don’t wait up for me
Gonna be a long walk home

My Pa said “Son, we’re lucky,
This town is a beautiful place to be born.
It just wraps its arms around you,
Nobody crowds you, nobody goes it alone”

“You see that flag down at the courthouse?
It means certain things are set in stone.
Who we are, what we’ll do and what we won’t”

Well it’s gonna be a long walk home
Hey pretty darling, don’t wait up for me
Gonna be a long walk home
Hey pretty darling, don’t wait up for me
Gonna be a long walk home

Here everybody has a neighbor
Everybody has a friend
Everybody has a reason to begin again

[harmonica bridge]

Now the war is rising ’round the corner
There’s a fire burning out of control
There’s a hurricane on Main Street
And I’ve got murder in my soul

Yeah well when the party’s over
And the cheering is all gone
Will you know me, will I know you
Will I now you

‘Cause it’s gonna be a long walk home
Hey pretty darling, don’t wait up for me
Gonna be a long walk home
Hey pretty darling, don’t wait up for me
Gonna be a long walk home
Hey pretty darling, don’t wait up for me
Gonna be a long walk home
Hey pretty darling, don’t wait up for me
Gonna be a long walk home
Hey pretty darling, don’t wait up for me
Gonna be a long walk home
Hey pretty darling, don’t wait up for me
It’s gonna be a long walk home

Hey now darling, it’s gonna be a long walk home**
Yeah it’s gonna be a long walk home

Steve | 8/22/2007, 1:50 pm EST

This for Devilsndust41.

I completely understand your point about much of Bruce’s music containing political undertones. I was just thinking that he should realize that his fans come from all walks of life, political and otherwise, and should not take too much time in a concert trying to inject a particular point of view onto them. Everyone pays about $100 a ticket, with the hopes of hearing their favorite song or two, and he should not waste too much time with long interludes of gospel (usually stretching songs out twice their normal length) as to who we should be voting for and the like. I say let it rock, play more tunes, less talk. This would allow maybe a good 30 song set in just under three hours. If he wants to share his political insights then he should write a book. It would be that kind of forum where he can get into more details of his exact political beliefs. It would be there for those who who wish to read it, and as you stated, for those who don’t. Regards.

My parents used to scream at me for playing Bruce’s music too loud…now my kids do! I guess I’ve come full circle. Still, there’s nothing like seeing Springsteen live and I’d like my kids’ first concert to be one of his so PLEASE don’t leave Pittsburgh off the tour!!!

Marty | 8/23/2007, 9:59 am EST

can’t wait until this album comes out…wonder how many songs I will an instant relation to? ne of the greatest things about bruce’s music is when a new album comes out there is always one or two songs on the album that you have an instant connection to.

this album will introduce all new fans to bruce and the e streeters, I head my first bruce album when i was 15 and have been a fan ever since. friends and family laughed at me when i played it because bruce was the guy the just grunted his songs…i told them all just to listen to one or two songs…they were hooked by the magic – great title -

Gianfranco,italian in Poland | 8/23/2007, 10:36 am EST

‘Radio Nowhere’ is ok.

Not as good as everyone on this site making it out to be..

His vocals are suppressed a little making it hard to understand among the solid guitar sound.

Bruce keeps using a line from his own shows, “Is there anyone alive out there?”

Hopefully something else is better further on down the CD..

Toni - BARCELONE | 8/28/2007, 7:04 pm EST

I can’t understand why Bruce won’t to Barcelona. He always come and he loves my city.

Radio Nowhere is a song that goes nowhere. Shallow lyrics, simple chord changes and nothing more to offer.

Bruce can do better..take any album he wrote in the 1970’s, early 80’s as proof.

New album to look forward to getting to know is great news, as theres a lot of commercial shit available at the moment – the but tour details of the uk leg is just not good enough. I have only seen him in concert once on the Rising tour, in a small dilapidated Crystal Palace “Bowl” England. Of all the stadiums available at the time why chose that pile of shit. This tour hes again choosen a smaller venue, a state of the art one admittedly but only 20,000+ =
He has a huge fan base here so why not play a larger arena WHY NOT MILLENIUM STADIUM, WALES 70,000 easy – sorry but one small gig on this tour is not enough Bruce.

justafan | 8/31/2007, 3:59 am EST

I’ll take a live concert with Bruce (and the E-Street Band) any time! Hard to believe it’s been 20+ years now. Glad someone I believe in is out there! Bruce is always welcome in my hometown.

oldBruce | 9/4/2007, 12:57 pm EST

Again, why do many of you think the following is such a great song?

I think you have dropped your standards just a little too much.

Let’s examine the not so amazing depth of these lyrics:

“Radio Nowhere” Lyrics
by Bruce Springsteen

i was trying to find the road home
but all i heard was the voice of a drone
out sat on the satellite
crushing the last life america dies

this is radio nowhere
is there anybody alive out there
this is radio nowhere
is there anybody alive out there

i was spinning on a big time
just another lost number in a file
dancin down a dark road
it’s just searching for a world to fool

this is radio nowhere
is there anybody alive out there
this is radio nowhere
is there anybody alive out there
is there anybody alive out there
i just wanna hear some rhythym
i just wanna hear some rhythym
i just wanna hear some rhythym
i just wanna hear some rhythym

i want girls and guitars
i want pounding big drums
i wanna million voices to hear the tunes

this is radio nowhere
is there anybody alive out there
this is radio nowhere
is there anybody alive out there
is there anybody alive out there
do it

-sax solo-

i was driving through the misty rain
it’s just a searching for a mystery dream
romping through the wild blue
turn on the radio came dancin’ with you

this is radio nowhere
is there anybody alive out there
this is radio nowhere
is there anybody alive out there
is there anybody alive out there
i just wanna hear some rhythym
i just wanna feel some rhythym
i just wanna hear your rhythym
i just wanna feel your rhythym
i just wanna hear that rhythym
i just wanna hear that rhythym
i just wanna hear that rhythym

Yeah, real good here. Maybe this is a result of the reported $100 million deal Bruce signed with Sony BMG. So he needs to crank them out regardless of whether they are any good or not. Doesn’t anyone else see this?

tove-norway | 9/4/2007, 1:25 pm EST

Hello again. Don`t care what some of you might think- Bruce is the BOSS! So what if this last song isn`t all that “deep” or packed with serious, political stuff. It sure is entertaining and Bruce has lots of songs that have a deeper meaning and send a message-most of his songs do!! Lets enjoy the guitars and pounding drums and have fun!

Martin Johnson | 9/4/2007, 3:44 pm EST

Let’s hope this coming tour is a taster. Saw him in Manchester/UK on the Rising Tour – superb. Please come back to Manchester in 2008 Bruce. The new single is a barnstormer – give me more!!!

screw all the people who say bruce cant sing etc. the man is a god he would kick chuck norris ’s ass anyday

Sierraborn 260 | 9/6/2007, 12:36 am EST

Saw Springsteen at the LA Coliseum in 1985. The full moon was rising over the walls of the Coliseum at one point- it was unbelievable. Really really bitchin’ stuff. Great show, great vibe, great experience. Word was, two days prior, he played until 4 in the morning at Candelstick park/3com park or whatever-
Those on here who “don’t think he’s that great a songwriter” etc; listen to the people you DO think are great songwriters: do you respect their opinion? Great! because they all think he’s awesome at it…. and so do I. I still get choked up about “you’re still missing”, and the rising (”on my back’s a sixty pound stone, on my shoulder’s a half-mile a’ line”= the nozzle and the hose to go fight the WTC fire on 9/11/01; anyone who can bring out that imagery is gifted, plus that he had the cojones to do it, and do it right- spending hours with the victims’ families and not cheapen the project with a few “kill the bastards” hooks. I hope I hope I hope I hope I can see him this time around. I have NO DOUBT it will be WELL WORTH THE WAIT!!!

Walter | 9/6/2007, 12:33 pm EST

Springsteen had me spellbound when I first heard Born to Run on the radio in 1975 at 17 yrs of age. When I’d listen to the Born to Run album over and over, my brother thought it was several different albums by Springsteen, because every song was soooo good.

Darkness was different but still one of the best albums I every heard. Also loved Greetings from and Wild and the Innocense.

Springsteen slammed into the ’80s with The River and even though I read negative reviews and heard people that said they were fans complain about Nebraska, I think that may still be one of my favorite albums.

Even though Born in the US was pop and Tunnel of Love wasn’t his best, Those albums were better than anyone else was doing (except maybe Tom Waits).

The ’90s have come and the Emperor has no clothes. It all started with him releasing two albums at the same time…I bought them both…one was ok the other … well let’s leave it at that.

Then Springsteen did what he claimed in 1981 he would never do; released a greatest hits …Whaaa???

Then the Ghost of Tom Joads was (save the title song and Jonestown) was almost unlistenable. Yes, I know the risng is about 911…so what, I liked Further on up the Road and You’re Missing…and that’s it.

Dust and Devils…more like Busted Devil. And now I’ve heard Radio Nowhere…I…I…Bruce, what the hell are you doing??? You’re becoming a caricature of youself man.

I’ve been to 10 concerts. The first in 1975 and the last in 2000. And since he stopped doing his little talks between songs, the concerts have gone down hill. I know you all want to say how great his concerts are – and I’m sure they are better than most – but he has gone so down hill that I’m just waiting for the chance to see Tom Waits again; now that’s a real concert.

Bruce, there was a time that I didn’t have to hear one song on your album to buy it and now I need to hear the album first. I haven’t bought your album since you disappointed me with Tom Joad (although I’ve listened to them all since) and I doubt I’ll buy Magic…because I doubt that it is Magic anymore. You were hungry once, but now you’re not. Wish you could bring back the Magic from the ’70s…now, that would be Magic.

Walter's | 9/6/2007, 12:41 pm EST

Sorry, I posted twice. Still, I wanted to add:

Let’s hope Springsteen doesn’t do anymore Jug Band albums…I mean, Pete S. albums. Oh Bruce, where is the rock man?

MISSION MAN | 9/6/2007, 9:44 pm EST

WALTER, I HOPE YOU ENJOY YOUR NEXT TOM WAITS CONCERT,WHENEVER THAT IS.BRUCE IS DIVERSE IN HIS MUSIC AND I FOR ONE ENJOY THE DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS HE TAKES US WITH HIS MUSIC.HE DOESN’T BECOME MUNDANE AND PUT OUT THE SAME TYPE OF ALBUM EVERY SINGLE TIME.GRANTED, SOME ARE BETTER THAN OTHERS BUT EACH IS UNIQUE IN ITS OWN RIGHT. IF YOU DON’T ENJOY THE NEW MUSIC THEN DON’T LISTEN.

MISSION MAN | 9/6/2007, 9:50 pm EST

HEY CAMPISI,YOUR A MORON.ENJOY WHATEVER IT IS YOU DO.BRUCE WRITES MUSIC WITH SOUL AND HEART AND SINGS THE SAME WAY.

oldBruce | 9/7/2007, 10:02 am EST

MISSION MAN: so now you resort to name calling on Walter and Campisi and the rest to those whom you disagree with? They have a right to their opinion. Walter never said Bruce was not a great songwriter. He simply made a point that Bruce may have lost
his hunger of late. I agree with that. However, I thought ‘The Rising’ was excellent.
‘Radio Nowhere’ may have solid guitar and drums, but the words are simplistic and borrow from his famous concert line, “Is there anyone alive out there?” There may be other songs on ‘Magic’ that will stand out. Time will tell.
The point is that you and a few other (definitely not all) so called Bruce fans need to stop marking every little thing Bruce does as legendary. Yes he will go down in history as a legend and a great songwriter, but not because of your childlike efforts. Maybe you should learn something from your “cherished” song ‘Reno’ from Devils & Dust and take it up the you know what once in awhile, and give others the right to their First Amendment.

MISSION MAN | 9/7/2007, 6:29 pm EST

OLDBRUCE: SPRINGSTEEN’S WORK STANDS ON ITS OWN AS LEGENDARY AND HE DEFINATELY DOES NOT NEED THE FANS TO MERIT THE GREATNESS OF HIS MUSIC. CALL ME CRAZY BUT WHEN CAMPISI SAY HE CAN’T WRITE AND HE CAN’T SING THAT IS JUST ABSURD.HE CAN SAY ANYTHING HE WANTS EVEN IF IT MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL. I ALSO HAVE MY OPINION AND I BELIEVE THAT BRUCE WRITES WHAT IS PERTINENT IN HIS LIFE NOW AS WELL AS THE TIMES WE LIVE IN NOW, NOT JUST 20 YEARS AGO. HE MOVES FORWARD AND RECREATES HIMSELF,UNLIKE WHAT MOST MUSICIANS HIS AGE SEEM TO BE DOING.HIS MUSIC IS FOR HIM AND HIS FANS AND HE DOES NOT SELL OUT LIKE MOST OTHERS DO. I AM ALSO HAPPY TO SEE YOU KNOW THE LYRICS TO A LOT OF HIS SONGS.ENJOY THE MUSIC AND RIGHT BACK AT YOU.

jam | 9/7/2007, 6:50 pm EST

I hope Bruce stays out of the political realm. I feel that has really hurt him. There is a link to Obama’s web site on Amazon.com on the Magic CD web page. Get serious. Both parties suck, stick to the music.

BSFAN | 9/7/2007, 7:32 pm EST

I think many will be suprised by the new release. People who wrote off the new single will have to give credit to the remainder of the CD. Those who love the single will be blown away completely, this is indeed the full package that can only be produced by “The Boss”.

The 11 tracks that follow Radio Nowhere are completely different. Kinda a hybrid of Greetings, River and Rising. Good writing, wall of sound type recording, Definitely E Street heavy sounding.

Oct 2nd is a long way off, the music is out there, go find it and soak it up! Buy the disc when it comes out, buy a concert ticket hell, even buy a t-shirt and have a blast! Enjoy!

willie the janitor | 9/7/2007, 9:27 pm EST

Didn’t he write a song about TV?… something like “68 channels and nothing on”? Could this be the RADIO version of the same song? at some point one has to take responsibility for the content (or lack there-of) in one’s own life.
psychologically speaking – that is.
But as for politics: god bless him for standing up for what he believes – and questioning status quo – it takes guts for an entertainer to cross that line. Noblese Oblige.

Lance Rooney | 9/8/2007, 3:48 am EST

I’ve been fortunate enough to see ‘The Boss’ four times in my home country of England. However, I’ve lived in Johannesburg South Africa for the past 10 years and am desperate for him and the band to play here. Has anyone got any ideas as to how we can get them to South Africa?

yaz | 9/8/2007, 1:00 pm EST

Campisi – he is lost in the flood. Enough said.
No one but maybe Dylan has put out more quality and variety of music throughout his career. Always inspiring and goosebump evoking whether it’s the joy of life like Spirits In The Night, or the desperation of Johnny 99 or the reaching hope of my City of Ruins, Bruce delivers. (A few not totally memorable albums aside). Who else has been this plentiful this long and still Proves it All Night?!

Daniel | 9/8/2007, 1:09 pm EST

I heard the entire album….
And Radio nowhere is one of the worst tracks, this album is great and the best of the bost since Born in the U.S.A!! What a genius!!!
This is truly magic, even the non-believers will see that…
Go and buy yourself a copy when it comes out on october 2nd,this album deserves it big time!!

Thanks

oscar | 9/12/2007, 3:17 pm EST

why don´t you come to BArcelona?

Walter's | 9/12/2007, 4:14 pm EST

Hey, it’s me again. The guy that wrote the mean post here about Springsteen…WHAAAAA??? First, a thank-you to OldBruce for sticking up for me…I love that, old Bruce, just what I wish we had. You know, if you didn’t read my post – I mean read it – you just don’t understand the love I have for his Great music. I know the man plays a ton of different styles. When he came out with Nebraska my then girlfriend and I fought about that album. I thought it was fantastic and I got pissed at every review that said otherwise (and still think that way) but she said, “Just because you love him doesn’t mean others can’t have a different opinion.” She didn’t like the album (ya THINK), but hey, she was right; about the opinion part that is.

You know what made Born to Run so good, no one ever (IMHO) every wrote anything that good. It wasn’t almost like watching a movie (it was watching a movie to listen to that album) and you had to start at the beginning and go to the end, or you missed part of the movie. I LOVED Darkness on the edge of Town. I LOVED The River. I LOVED Nebraska. I thought Born in the USA was a darn good album. Songs on Tunnle of Love still blow me away.

OK…if you read my post, you know the rest. I’m sorry, I am a fan of what he once did. And if that is all I have, it is the best music anyone every did. Yep, mock me because I’d rather see Tom Waits in concert…why is that, because in 2000 I saw Bruce do what I’d never expected he had in him to do; a concert like everyone else does. Oh most of the music was assume…but there wasn’t any there, there.

I saw him for the first time in a small arena in Sacramento CA in 1975 (I only had his album for two month…and hardly anyone was at the concert) and he played as if his life depended on it. I almost felt like I didn’t pay enough money; yes, Bruce got gypped, because he played like we paid hundreds of dollars to attend.

The concerts got better as the years went on and I felt that all I had to know was that a Springsteen album was out and I didn’t have to hear one song to buy it. Sadly, that isn’t the case anymore.

So if everyone thinks he is fantastic, that is great…when I hear his old stuff I can’t argue that…but please…Let someone that lived Springsteen mostly from the time he first started, have an opinion. I don’t doubt that his music means the world to you. It once did for me.

There was a time that I couldn’t wait to get the latest Springsteen and waited years between releases, but things change. I’ve changed and Bruce has changed. I don’t get into his music anymore and he doesn’t get my dollar’s anymore…but I think he’ll do just fine.

Now, if Magic (which is a dumb name; Radio Nowhere is a better name) is a great album (I don’t even care if it compares to Born to Run or not, I just want a glimpse of the genius) I will buy it and be happy to do so. Can you imagine the magic if he could only do an album even half as good as Born to Run…oh, takes my breathe away.

I agree that anyone that says he can’t sing doesn’t understand him (he doesn’t have a pure singing voice, but it comes purely from the heart when he is on – but then again, Tom Waits sings with heart too…maybe that’s why I love them both). Anyway, I hope that Magic is Magic this time out.

I want to point out that I thought You’re Missing may be one of the saddest songs Springsteen every wrote and I thought Further on up the Road was pure magic in the old Springsteen sense. So, if anyone is still reading this. Ra Ra and Goooooo TEAM!!!

Walter's | 9/12/2007, 4:20 pm EST

Hey, Jimmy D., I think all you have to do is go to NJ and just walk right up to Bruce’s front door and tell him. He’ll probably have you over for dinner and maybe later go out bowling or something.
It’s worth a try, because all my life I’ve heard that he is just a down to earth guy that loves hanging out with the fans. They call him Boss and the Boss’s door is always open for one of the regular fokes. So, give it a try.

Walter's | 9/12/2007, 4:20 pm EST

Walter's | 9/12/2007, 7:37 pm EST

Hey Sierraborn: Don’t want to burst your bubble about the 1985 CA Bay area concerts, but first of all they were in the Oakland Stadium where the A’s play (not SF) and I went to both concerts and can tell you that neither went until 4:30 in the morning – I wish they had, because I didn’t want to go home when they were over on either night; Springsteen was in great form both nights and I had already seen him 6 times previous (1 night in 1975 on Born to Run tour, twice on Darkness tour, twice on the River tour and once on the Nebraska tour – Nebraska tour was only tour I saw him on that he didn’t have the E-Street Band with him) and he just brought the house down. I almost felt as if it was the first time I was seeing him.

The first night he started at 7:30 and played for about 45 minutes (no opening band – he can open for himself) came back at about 9:00 and ripped the place apart until about 1:00 in the morning (it was over 4 ½ hours). The second night was about the same but he played until about 1:30, 1:45 ish. Maybe the word was that he played over 4 and ½ hours in Oakland…but trust me, it didn’t go until 4:30 in the morning.

Wonder if he every has played until 4:30 in the morning…He doesn’t even play long concerts anymore…he’s getting old like me.

Walter's | 9/12/2007, 7:50 pm EST

Hey willie the janitor: I’m sorry, where does it take guts for an entertainer to stand up for their politics?? Maybe if they are conservative it takes guts; someone like Springsteen, it’d takes guts for him to shut-up and just sing. Takes guts to stand-up for your politics…give me a break. Now if he’d come out with a great album again, that might take guts.

Hey Old Bruce,

You’ve got the lyrics incorrect! Oh what
a credible resource you are. Lyrically it
has no punch but he wrote this in about
20 minutes driving in Atlanta and couldn’t
find anything worth listening to. He is no
longer contractually obligated to put anything out.

MISSION MAN: Your not crazy. Here is the post you were referring to:

John Campisi | 9/3/2007, 1:35 pm EST

Bruce Springsteen is grossly overrrated. He can’t sing, he can’t write songs, and his blue collar/working class image is phony. Can you say “washed up dinosaur”???

Maybe John is referring to Bruce’ later years? But if he wasn’t, then how could he say that can’t write when one only has to look at the lyrics in the following list:

Born to Run
Thunder Road
Lost in the Flood
Blinded By The Light
Spirits in the Night (must be your song)
Jungleland
Backst reets
The River

Some of these songs are actually small books. And this is only a few, there’s plenty more.

Sorry I was so hard on you. You know what your talking about.

I think we both can agree that Bruce is not writing with the same intensity that he did in 1975, but that doesn’t mean he should give it up. I’ll take any Bruce over having no Bruce at all.

You had it right. Enjoy the show!

MISSION MAN | 9/13/2007, 7:45 pm EST

RE:OLD BRUCE,I UNDERSTAND YOUR SENTIMENT IN RELATION TO SPRINGSTEEN’S OLD MATERIAL COMPARED TO HIS NEW STUFF.HONESTLY I DON’T THINK HE COULD MATCH THE GREATNESS OF THOSE CLASSICS. THEY WERE THAT GREAT AND MIND-BLOWING. I DO ENJOY THE NEW MATERIAL TOO AND REALIZE THAT THE MUSIC COMES FROM A DIFFERENT PLACE NOW.I APPRECIATE THE PASSION YOU BRING TO THE MUSIC AND CAN UNDERSTAND YOUR FEELINGS TOWARD IT.THANKS FOR THE APOLOGY BUT IT WASN’T NECESSARY. YOU WERE GIVING YOUR OPINION ABOUT THE MUSIC AND THAT’S COOL. ENJOY THE CONCERTS AND I HOPE YOU LIKE THE NEW ALBUM.

pissedoffBrucefan | 9/14/2007, 4:52 pm EST

Dear Bruce,

You got a lot of nerve to ask for an $89.00 ticket price for November 14th at Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh, PA, when you should be aware that Ticketmaster is tacking on the following fees:

Convenience Charge: $9.15
Building Facility Charge: $4.50

For a grand total of: $102.65

Your full of greed. You grew up not having a lot of money, worked very hard to earn what you have, and now have completely forgotten:

1) what it’s like to not have a lot of extra money
2) the people who helped make you rich

Way to go. You could lower the ticket price to compensate for what Ticketmaster has done, or choose another ticket service altogether.

You have turned your back on us.

Sincerely,
one pissedoffBrucefan

MISSION MAN | 9/14/2007, 6:34 pm EST

I UNDERSTAND YOUR GRIEF ABOUT THE TICKET PRICES AND WITH A FAMILY OF FOUR EVERY DOLLAR COUNTS, BUT TO BE FAIR IF YOU LOOK AT AN ACT LIKE THE STONES WHO EVEN HAVE A CORPORATE SPONSOR FOR THEIR TOURS THEY CHARGE IN EXCESS OF 200.00. FOR TODAYS MUSICAINS, BRUCE IS PRETTY REASONABLE. BELEIVE ME THOUGH, I FEEL YOUR PAIN AND WILL BE CUTTING CORNERS MYSELF TO TRY AND GET 4 TICKETS.

Walter's | 9/14/2007, 6:42 pm EST

Hey pissedoffBrucefan: it’s the nature of the beast. In the early ’80s I attended a concert for The River Tour paid about 19.00 for a ticket plus 2.00 to Ticket Masters. A few years later I saw Bruce on the Nebraska Tour and paid around 23.00 and then I saw him on Born in USA and paid about 27.00. All these amounts at the time seemed like a lot of money and to see that we are at 89.00 now, doesn’t seem tht out of line.

It is what it is and you have to decide if the entertainment is worth it. In all the concerts that I mentioned above, I think it was well worth it, but after seeing Bruce in 2000, I don’t think he is putting on the same quality concert he once did. Doesn’t mean that I am saying don’t go; just doesn’t really seem worth it to me anymore.

Boss | 9/14/2007, 7:17 pm EST

All this debate about Bruce’s past and recent efforts, cost of tickets, political views, etc. are just trivial nonsense. He’s just an artist whose music people–his fans–can identify with. What’s so appealing with Bruce is his commitment to his music and growing as an artist. I don’t necessarily love all his work, Seeger Sessions e.g., but I support him because he’s an artist who’s music has supported me when I was down and his music would always leave me with faith and hope. His concerts separate him from all performers with his energy and command of music. View his concert videos and live and just look at the people’s faces…the joy and happiness he brings to these people is amazing. This is why he is great! In today’s culture of sex, violence and utter nonsense you can always count on Bruce to set a standard that other artist fail to achieve. No sexual posturing on tabloid television or on stage, no throwing furniture out of hotel windows, no dangling of babies, over ledges, no hyperbaric chambers or monkey friends, no silly costumes or sacrilegious symbols; all these acts are intended to create publicity to make up for these artists shortcomings as an artist and a person, in my view. Very few artists are in Bruce’s league, but names like Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, U2, The Who, Rolling Stones, to name a few, come to mind. So, if you’re a fan just enjoy Bruce as he grows and stop complaining. If you’re a detractor think about who your favorites are and compare them to Bruce in terms of performing live and music/lyrical compostion, and as a person, and see if those artists measure up.

$6.50 at the Stanley(Benedum) in ‘78.
Of course gas was 45 cents.
Grow up. Skip the Grecian Formula or the Skim Latte for a month. This will never happen again in your lifetime. Be

Hey Robert: what was your point? Were you saying ticket prices are too high? Or were you saying…as I was saying…it’s the nature of the beast; prices go up every year. Not sure what you were saying…unless that was your band you were promoting…are you the manager and do a free promotion for them? Much like the Flight of the Conchords would do??? OK…what every it was we were lucky enough to get to read it three times…one of my posts was so nice I posted it twice…but you were promoting for free…so you posted it three…times…had to get it to rhyme.

Everyone has valid points here.

I was just making a statement that Bruce needs to be aware of the scam that Ticketmaster is pulling on his fans. A Building Facility charge of $4.50 per ticket? What’s that? A charge to use the restrooms? Come on. We need open competition in all free markets and ticket brokering should be no exception. Otherwise, tickets for Springsteen, Rolling Stones, Genesis, and Hannah Montana (who the are they?) will continue to be out of line. Bruce is in a position to at least go his own way and put pressure on Ticketmaster to drop or lower the convenience and “building facility”
fees if he wanted.

To all of you out there: A true fan, is just that – true. You either are or you never were. First time I saw Bruce & the E Street Band in 1978,I was hooked. I’ve been fortunate enough to see him at least once on every tour he’s done since. He has given his fans music with lyrics that say something – some songs more than others. He is not perfect. To all of the doubters out there: give the man some slack. He does his best and what he believes in. Who else do you know that goes off in other directions musically, because that is what he feels is where he needs to go. He is true to himself and does what he feels is right for himself, musically. That’s his right, that’s his job, he’s a musician. I have alot of admiration & respect for someone who does what he does, with the passion he has towards it. The bottom line is “passion”. He has it and will continue to deliver til the end. I’m looking forward to Oct 2nd, can hardly wait to hear the new cd and very excited to see them rock us all night long. Keep doing what you do Bruce. P.S. Bet all you haters can’t do what you use to do -back in the day…..

Walter | 9/25/2007, 2:36 am EST

Bruuuuuuce luvr, I just want to point out that in the ’70s and ’80s Bruce did what he wanted to make great music and money really wasn’t his number one concerned – sadly now that he can’t do it anymore, money is part of the problem…IMNHO (even though he didn’t have a lot of it). Yet after BNUSA he was pressured to make a pop album – a pop album is the same to normal musicians – and even though it was a very pop album it had a look of down right rock mixed in with Down Right POP rock. then the ’90s came and I say FUCK you Bruce. You said you wouldn’t ever do a Greatest Hits album and made fun of people that did; you released two albums on the same day just because you knew your true fans (like me) would buy them both even though one album only had to songs that were OK and the rest you couldn’t listen to.

Then you yes, came out with the cd I spoke about earlier…you Greatest hist…your greates blunder in my mind.

The rising you tried hard but missed the mark — I only liked off that cd “You’re Missing,” and “Further on up the Road.”

Then that pathetic Dirtbuster cd I heard it once and just like the album I will never talk about (although it did have one of BS best song in years and that was “Jones Town) I’m talking about Ghost of Tom Toad…I mean Joad.

Everyone says Magic Magic and it has the who band…I say get rid of his ex-slut and it has the band I care about. Don’t get me worng…there was a time I bought any Springsteen cd right (they were albums when I bought my first in 1975 (or was that 1875 to you young ones) Born to Run and I didn’t hate any songs on it. And that was how it was until Born in USA…couldn’t stand Glory Days, and there are a few more I am missing…but it was just a couple that I didn’t like, how many other musicians can do that…none that I listen to except my body Tom Waits.

So then the concerts…saw him in SAC CA 1975 tour – hardly anyone in the crowded…but he killed. Saw him twice on the Darkness Tour in the bay area…he killed and was now playing about three hour shows. Saw him once on Nebraska without the band, it was great, but would have been better with the band. Saw him twice on Born in USA Played well over four and a half each night and close to five hours second night.

Saw him twice on Tunnel of Love tour and he played for about 3 hours first night and about 4 hrs 15 min second night.
Did’t see him again until 2000 and it was the worse concert. I paid a lot of money and I wasnted him to give me what he gave me in 1975 when I paid 12.00 to see him and he ripped the place apart.

Springstenn was genious…saidly, I am not holding my breath that Magic will bring it back. Still, anyone want to give me a free ticket so I can see if he’s got it back yet??? Also, a free CD so I can come back here after listening to it and give you an honest opinion of the cd.

Bruuuuuuce luvr wrote the following: P.S. Bet all you haters can’t do what you use to do -back in the day:
And I will comment on what Bruuuuuuuce luvr wrote: I may not be able to do whay I could do in the day, but I don’ charge the one people that can least aford it (my fan) an arm and a leg to get a watered down version of what the once great Springsteen was…and oh, it was magic then, hope it will be majic again…but I won’t hold my breath

I was there for the power and the glory of the darkness and river tours, before stadium shows. We felt like keepers of a secret, not everyone was on to Bruce yet, despite the great reviews.then he blew up for the Born in the USA tour and everyone was on the bandwagon. For me it will never be like that again, when the band blew the fuckin roof off every joint, every night. But I still can close my eyes litening to Jungleland,or the Darkness album and really feel it.I’m older now,as is Bruce.Iloved Nebraska, hated Tom Joad. But I saw what some people will never see;an artist so good,so real;that he left it all on the stage every night. The audience was equally comitted,a rare thing. After the Rising tour, I didn’t think I’d be back.I’m gonna goone more time,I have to.My 17 year old daughter has Born to Run on her I-Pod, I think thats pretty cool.

You cannot expect Bruce to be the same performer as he was 30+ years ago. He has matured, as has his fans. We are different now that we are older. There are more responsibilities which just changes people. I will try and see Bruce whenever I can; I have not been to a lousy concert yet. Were the best concerts the early years? Yes, but the Rising tour was great too. I got tickets to the Boston show in November and am taking my 10 year old daughter. I want her to see someone other than the Hannah Montanas of this world!

HIS CONCERTS MAY NOT ROCK ON AS LONG AS THEY USED TO BUT FOR MY MONEY HE STILL PUTS ON THE BEST SHOW. HE IS 58 YEARS OLD, SO IT IS NORMAL THAT HE SLOWED DOWN JUST A LITTLE. NOT MUCH THOUGH. See Bruce interviewed about Presley? He was asked, “Did Elvis let you down, in the end?” The “saint” says, “Man, Elvis didn’t owe anybody Anything! He brought more joy into this world than anybody”. Catch Bruce talkin’ about the title of the new cd? He said it was about how peeps can be tricked, making a lie out of truth, and truth from a lie. Kind of like the old saying, “If you don’t do politics, politics will do you”. There’s 59 million Americans who were under a “Magic” spell, when they voted for the “decider” in the White House. The spell has been broken. 01.20.09-C’mon!

Walter, the slut remark was pretty nasty. Definitely undeserving.

I still stand by what I said.
Since I enjoy many different types of music, I have seen many bands and solo artists in concert. I can honestly say Bruce and the E Street Band give the best concerts I’ve ever been to. I know the Magic Tour will be no different.
By the way, Bruce is human. I suppose you’ve never said you wouldn’t do something and ended up doing it sooner or later. Lighten up.

It’s been a long time since an album, or cd, raised the hairs on the back of my neck. Thanks for more great music Bruce !

Just read the set lists from several of the latest shows…. Candy’s Room, The Rising and Waiting On a Sunny Day in one show.. I can’t wait…I saw Bruce several times in the ’80’s and the Rising tour 3 times…He just gets better with age…and I agree with the other postings…my husband and I are taking kids this time too

Fran | 10/8/2007, 12:37 am EST

One more comment from a Republican Bruce fan…again after seeing his 60 minutes piece tonite…He is so true, so real and the least sell out of any one of his generation….Darkness on the Edge and the old Bruce stuff was incredible and holds up to this day…however, Walter and the others who complain about the new music…have you read the liner notes to The Rising…It is absolutely the most poignant tribue to 911 by anyone…and even though your heart strings are tugged, he adds upbeat songs like Waiting on a sunny day to bring you back to hope… Can’t wait to see at least two of the shows on this tour….And if Bruce’s people read these blogs…please tell him to play Candy’s Room when he is on his Southern leg of the tour!!

Bruuuuuuce luvr | 10/8/2007, 6:12 am EST

After watching 60 minutes, it re-affirms why I love and respect Bruce. His words were from the heart as his songs are. He gives us hope and faith and he makes me want to be a better person. Keep doing what your doing, Bruce – people are listening…

Bruce should spend less time ginning up false controversy and more time actually playing music (in my opinion).

Regarding Bruce’s 60 Minutes interview where he is talking about habeas corpus (a writ for inquiring into the lawfulness of the restraint of a person who is imprisoned or detained in another’s custody) and Bruce also mentioned the right to have a lawyer. For who are you referring to Bruce?

If you were referring to American detainees who are under suspicion of terrorism, then yes, give them rights to a lawyer, and either come up with a set of charges within a “reasonable” period of time, or let them go.

Or were you referring to the prisoners at Guantanamo Bay? If that is who you are referring to, then you got to be kidding. They are prisoners of war! They were caught on the battlefield throwing bombs and shooting at our military. Americans don’t need to be paying lawyer fees (via taxes) for a group of guys who will admit that if given the opportunity to be free again, they would like to kill as many Americans as possible. I think sometime during ‘Where the Bands Are” you shook your brains just little too much.

Springsteen is way, way, way beyond your comprehension. I had a English prof who used to tell pompous, know-nothing twits who denegrated great artists that they need to look at the possibility that the problem isn’t the work, it’s your inability to understand it. I truly love Bruce Springsteen’s body of work. Maybe the new disc will grow on me but I listened to it three times and it’s pretty damn boring. Nothing stands out. There must be a new melody in there somewhere…if I can just find it. These worshipful comments remind me of the “Leave Brittney Alone!” post. Anybody have an intelligent comment about this album? Anyone? I ‘m looking for something better than “I’ll kill you if you don’t love Bruce’s table scraps.” Hello?

oldBruce | 10/18/2007, 2:52 pm EST

Hi dey. I think I got your number. I also don’t see a whole lot of magic in ‘Magic.’
There are few bright spots. Certainly I wouldn’t consider this a great CD, but it’s good.
Better than Devils & Dust, but then again that’s not saying too much. The songs are simple, and if you
read what some of the others are saying, you would come to the conclusion that this is
the changed Bruce, and somehow we need to accept it and move on. OK, I can do that. Not much
care for his ticket price, nor the shorter concerts however.

Anyways, here’s my take on each song.

Radio Nowhere – solid beat and sharp guitar; lyrics are empty however.
You’ll Be Comin’ Down – I like this one; everyone will relate to it.
Livin’ in the Future – A hint of a younger Bruce, like something from ‘The River’; can dance to this one!
Your Own Worst Enemy – Can’t listen beyond the first line; vocal a little painful
Gypsy Biker – Starts off incredible; excellent guitar work; missing something however.
Girls in Their Summer Clothes – Nice harmony; reminds me of ‘Surfer Girl’ from Beach Boys.
I’ll Work for Your Love – Sounds like an older Billy Joel song that I cannot name; it’s not something your going to reach for when you need a Bruce fix however
Magic – no magic here, unless you consider the lack of a main melody a disappearing trick :)
Last to Die – beat and rhythm incredible, but I think the lyrics are a disservice to those
who are in harms way at the moment. There will be some military parents at Bruce’ concerts and he needs to respect that a little more, even though he is in opposition to the war, which is understandable.
Long Walk Home – was his older song ‘All the way home’ an inspiration for this one? This is decent and the sax solo is awesome.
Devil’s Arcade – a tribute to our military? Long overdue and will probably not be enough, but at least it’s a start.
Terry’s Song – awesome dedication to his friend, Terry Magovern. Best song on the CD.

What’s your take?

spatton | 10/19/2007, 1:31 pm EST

I re arraiged the songs and created my own “Magic” and it sounds alot better and yes I got to see “Bruce” in Philly and its hard… we want to hear so many songs and we get about 2% of what you want but alot of the problem is the Arena have contracts with town ordinance they will stop all live music before 11:30 if you notice all concert are over before 11:30 now a days. I put the following songs on my Magic CD
1. Last to die
2 Living in the Future
3. long way home
4. Radio’s Home
5. Magic
6. I’ll work for you love
7. Gypsy biker
Lonesome day
8. Girls in the summer clothes
all that heavon will allow
9. Devils Arcade
Jungleland
10.youll be coming down
prove it all night
11.your own worst enemy
Rising
12 dedication

Bob Petcher | 10/20/2007, 6:17 pm EST

Haven’t heard the album yet but heard the single and performances of most of the tracks. In the old days – up to The Rising – I would be first in the queue on the day an album was released but I haven’t got round to buying Magic yet. Perhaps that says something about the way I am beginning to feel about Bruce. I am not sure about the motivation with this one?

Is it ‘politicking’ (sic) or is it dollars? Not so sure that it’s the music? But don’t got me wrong, I would still class myself as a fan but, having watched Bruce for over 30 years, I have begun to recognise that the image and performance is a little more carefully rehearsed and polished than it would first appear.

(I pre-ordered Dylan’s Modern Times the minute it was announced and wasn’t dissappointed)

Michael | 10/23/2007, 7:38 pm EST

Somebody PLEASE tell me what the title to Track 12 is on Magic ??? It’s driving me crazy !

ant | 10/25/2007, 5:26 am EST

Bruce’s older work stands out for me more so than his new stuff (but maybe we don’t relate as closely to 9/11 as you guys in the states) so for me The Rising wasn’t the best I’ve heard from Bruce. Let’s hope the new album rekindles the fire as much as the Live in New York album did for me. But hey Bruce, how can it be a world tour if you aren’t coming to Cape Town In South Africa, weather’s great in Jan/Feb,you’ll fill some venues and we can rock! Make it a first.

oldBruce | 10/26/2007, 11:47 am EST

Michael,

Track 12 on Bruce’ Magic CD should be ‘Terry’s Song’

Canadian for Bruce 2008! | 10/26/2007, 12:20 pm EST

This might be one of the best albums i’ve heard in a while. Not Bruce’s, but altogether for the last 10-15 years. It has a few anti-war songs, but it is still a album anyone can listen to. 30 years after Born to Run and he is still an explosion on stage. Easily the best concert i’ve been to besides his Born to Run tour in ‘75. For anyone that says he is either doing it for the money or politics need to think about something. He is a “rock and roller”, he is doing tours and making albums for the love of music.

Bob Petcher | 10/26/2007, 2:44 pm EST

The problem is it is the same explosion every night. I have seen him many times and even been to different cities on the same tour. The performance is pretty much identical with the same cracks to the crowd, set list etc.
I began to get disillusioned with Tracks. I bought the full set which in UK was over $70 and then
there was the release of Some Tracks; sort of a ‘Best of’ which is fair enough but then we get three new tracks that weren’t on the original so what’s the motivation to that if it aint dollars? If you want to have the full back-catalogue you have to buy seven songs that you’ve already got! Maybe it was the record company?

MISSION MAN | 10/26/2007, 9:37 pm EST

I REALLY THINK PEOPLE COMPLAIN JUST FOR THE SAKE OF COMPLAINING. IF HE REALLY WANTED TO MAKE MONEY THE TOUR WOULD BE SPONSORED BY A BIG CORPORATION LIKE BUDWEISER AND THE TICKETS WOULD COST A HELL OF A LOT MORE.MAYBE HE SHOULD SELL HIS MUSIC CATALOG LIKE EVERY OTHER SELL-OUT ROCK BAND LIKE THE STONES,MELLENCAMP,AND AEROSMITH,TO NAME A FEW. ENJOY THE MUSIC.

Frank | 10/28/2007, 11:40 pm EST

I stood in the Spectrum as a teenager during the River Tour and experienced what I called then (and still do) “a religious experience”. You left those three and a half hour concerts dripping wet and exhausted but you couldn’t help but feel that you had been changed somehow. I’m 42 now. I recently picked up “Magic” and it is truly Amazing! Bruce is still able to make you think. You can’t help but be taken in by his stories. It definitely stirs the emotions. The CD is Great! The band sounds Great! Thanks, guys.

oldBruce | 10/30/2007, 3:57 pm EST

Frank,

“Great” is a little strong don’t you think?

‘Magic’ CD is OK.

Apparently you’ve never listened to an older album of his called ‘Born To Run’ You should try it sometime.

Now that could be considered “great”.

CJ | 10/31/2007, 12:43 pm EST

Bruce, if you are out there, I will be seeing you on 11/19 in Boston. PLEASE PLAY KITTY’S BACK as you did in CA. That would be fabulous!!!

Walter | 10/31/2007, 9:36 pm EST

OK, I see that some of you took offence to what I wrote about Bruce. I guess I’m not a true fan because I didn’t say what a great album Magic is…it isn’t, this is only the second time I couldn’t find one song on a Springsteen album I liked…man, I lived and died for a Springsteen album after I heard Born to Run in 1975. I never had to hear one song; I just ran out and bought the album and was never disappointed. But now I see that because I don’t like what he has done in the ’90s and ’00s I am a jerk.

If any of the albums such as Lucky Town, Ghost of Tom Joad, The Rising or Magic, were the first album’s I heard from Bruce, I would not like him as an artist. But there are a lot of singers that people love and I don’t understand why…well, I don’t get why everyone is saying how great these albums are except that you are the ones living in the past. Bruce is the best singer/songwriter next to Tom Waits and because I think he’s lost it, I’m an asshole…great; I’d rather be an asshole than a suck up like so many people here. At least I was honest in what I wrote.

When someone comes out with album after album that is great – and you say it’s great – but then they come out with mediocre at best…you have to admit it. Magic is not a good album. I’ve been listening to it off and on since it came out…I hate it. OK, tell me what a jerk I am because I tell you the truth…You make an album like the Wild and Innocent and then Born to Run and try to compare Magic to either of those albums, I’d slit my wrists before I’d listen to Magic over and over…my God, the King is in his underwear – no he’s not, he is naked…he’s got no clothes on people…come on, can’t you see it?

OK, I’m done. And what is sad, is that I saw all of his concerts up until just after he broke-up with the band and he was ALWAYS amazing, then I saw him in 2000 and he was just going through the motions for 2 1/2 hours. It was a boring concert – and I wasn’t the only one that felt that way – I think some people have to be new Springsteen fans to really think Magic is good…If you had grown-up with the music from the ’70s and ’80s (and those great 4-5 hour concerts), maybe you could understand why I am so disappointed that Springsteen lost it (and please don’t tell me it’s because it’s a political album; Jackson Brown had a great album called Life’s in the Balance that I love to listen to even to this day and I disagree with all the politics of the album, but it is still one of my favorite albums. If you want to do a political album, do one…but do it with good songs and not this rehashed, re-trashed, crap that is called Magic).

But you know what…maybe I’ll give it another listen tonight and I’ll change my mind. You never know. I hate Springsteen’s new music…please, notice that I didn’t say I hate Springsteen….oh, and for the guy that said I was out of line for calling his soon to be ex-wife a slut…she should never have been in the band – that’s when he started to go downhill – and Springsteen is just as much a slut for cheating on his wife with that slut…opps, I did it again.

Bob Petcher | 11/2/2007, 2:47 pm EST

I finally got it and it is everything I expected – good but not great- but I’ve played it four times a day this week. (I did exactly the same with The Rising for a week or so but haven’t played it since’
The influences are there to be heard: some Gary US Bonds, some Beach BOys and even some recycled lyrics from “My Hometown”.

But what the hell. It’s better than most of the albums that have come out of late but it still aint Modern Times.

Hey Bruce, I’m gonna be in my backyard…please come play. How can you call this a world tour if you won’t even play my backyard? Please Bruce, don’t let us down this time…please play my backyard…PLEASE, PLEASE.

Bob Petcher | 11/7/2007, 5:03 pm EST

In UK we refer to someone as a “Walter” if they aint quite the sharpest tool in the box. I wondered where the expression came from but I guess I know now.

Walter | 11/8/2007, 5:13 pm EST

In America we refer to “UK” as someone getting their ass kicked and we have to come and save them. Oh, wait, I do know why they refer to it as a “UK.”

Of course, I’m not the sharpest tool because I can see the great music Bruce once did and now see that he is turning out garbage and not afraid to say so…yep, that makes sense to me.

Bob Petcher | 11/9/2007, 3:40 pm EST

Like I said…

MISSION MAN | 11/9/2007, 6:50 pm EST

WALTER,WE GET IT. BRUCES’ NEW MUSIC WILL NEVER APPROACH THE HEIGHTS OF HIS CLASSIC MATERIAL. NOT MANY ARTISTS CAN OR HAVE APPROACHED THAT PLATEAU THE WAY BRUCE DID. I ENJOY IT EVEN THOUGH IT’S NOT “BORN TO RUN” OR “DARKNESS”. HIS MUSIC STILL ROCKS AND HE STILL WRITES MEANINGFUL LYRICS, UNLIKE MOST MUSICIANS TODAY. HE ALSO DOESN’T SELL HIS MUSIC TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER. IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT THAT’S FINE. YOUR ENTITLED TO THAT LIKE I AM ENTITLED TO ENJOY THE NEW ALBUM. PEACE.

Jesus, Rolling Stone, it’s time to kill this stupid thread. “old stuff better..Blah blah blah” Wah Wah Wah. I’m sure your wives wish you all could still prove it all night as well.
Bruce, Hope you’re not wasting your time reading this crap but if you are Shout out to Section D22 in PGH tonight. Cya.

Bob Petcher | 11/16/2007, 3:26 pm EST

OK This is my final word too. Unlike The Rising, I am still playing this three weeks after I got it. You shouldn’t like it and don’t want to like it but, after all I have said, I love it.
Still pissed that the only UK date is a the O2 – may as well watch him on TV!

CJ | 11/18/2007, 8:46 pm EST

Bruce, you are rocking the Garden right now in Boston. I am going tomorrow night and bringing my 10 year old daughter. She would love to hear Santa Claus is Coming to Town, if you can add that to the list!

If you do, her name is Paula and she’ll be in Section 316!

William | 12/5/2007, 1:23 pm EST

We’ll yet another tour goes past with the Boss missing out Scotland but this time its even worse he is playing every other country in the UK. I just wonder what his problem with Scotland is. I love the music and have travelled in the past to gigs however i had the option of pre order tickets last night and when i thought bout the over all cost ticket £65 then bus or flights then hotel not to mention things like tees and the like it just wasnt going to happen not when he has dissed Scotland since the playhouse in 96. total joke

MISSION MAN | 12/6/2007, 5:57 pm EST

NOT THAT I AM SURPRISED OR SHOULD ANYONE CARE BUT THE GRAMMY’S ARE A JOKE AND WILL ALWAYS BE CONSIDERED A JOKE. AMY WINEHOUSE AND VINCE GILL? PLEASE. BETTER THEY IGNORE BRUCE THEN LUMP HIM IN WITH THE CLOWNS.

JIM | 12/29/2007, 5:51 pm EST

Bruce Springsteen. Your Scottish fans are about to throw in the towel! What did we do?

Lily | 2/8/2008, 9:26 pm EST

Subject: Night from Holy hell at Springsteen concert 3-22-08

Date: Monday, March 24, 2008 12:29 PM

…I had the night from holy hell last night in Cincinnati. My husband and I drove to Cinci. to spend Easter Weekend celebrating our wedding anniversary and our “Christmas Gifts” to each other (tickets to Springsteen). We checked into our very nice, large, comfortable room at the Cincinnatian Hotel had appetizers and took a cab to the Bruce Springsteen concert. We had 1st row seats on the side which were perfect seats that cost a lot of money. The show started and everything was going great. We were having a wonderful time. About half way into the show, I told Mike that I had to use the ladies room and I wanted to buy a Tee-shirt and I would be right back. I returned but got lost and couldn’t remember exactly where my seat was although I knew it was section 110, front row, however I couldn’t find it! I was over one section too many so I knew was very close. Anyway, I walked all the way down the aisle where an Usher, who was guarding the floor portion so no one could come onto the floor without a ticket. I told him that I was lost but that I was sitting in the vicinity to my right just behind the portioned off section on the front row, but not on the floor. He said show me your ticket and I will find your seat. I said my husband has my ticket in his pocket but if I could just walk along the floor with you going with me then I am sure I will spot him and can return to my seat. Will this arrangement be ok? He said sure as long as I go with you. So off we went on the floor and I was looking to my right the entire time but didn’t see Mike. We were very close to the people standing in front of the stage and I said to the young man that we had walked too far up and needed to turn around and go back a few rows when suddenly a woman security officer says very hatefully to me, “Where’s your ticket?” The young man told her I didn’t have one and was trying to find my seat. She said, “Throw her out NOW, Your are out of here NOW! ” I said, ” No, wait, I am lost looking for my husband.” All of sudden 3 security officers came up to me and each one took an arm and the other one was behind me pushing me to move along the floor. I said “wait a minute here. I lost my seat, my husband has my ticket”, when I spotted Mike. He saw me as well and he saw them holding my arms and pushing me and he tried to jump over the railing but other guards prevented him from doing so telling him he had to go all around the top of the building and down the other side to get to where they were taking me. He did that and still couldn’t get out of the building to where I was. I was being led out by the guards and I was saying “please someone listen to me. You don’t understand what I am saying.” The officer said, “if you say another word you will be handcuffed and hauled off to jail.” All of a sudden a door was opened and I was LITERALLY thrown, SHOVED by these 3 officers out the door into a dark back alley where many semi-trailers were parked. I didn’t have a coat as it was left with my husband in my seat. I was all alone for about 30 minutes shivering when I saw a man in a dark jacket and looked as though me may be working there, and I said, “please help me”, and I told him my story. I was crying hysterically by this time and I said I had just gotten over an illness and I shouldn’t be out in the cold breathing the night air. He said, “Man, there is nothing I can do, and truthfully no one cares what happens to you at this point. You are not going into the concert ever again tonight. ” I said, ” how can I get to my husband?” He said “without your ticket, you aren’t.” I said “but you know I have a ticket because I was inside, I bought a Tee-shirt” He said if I wanted to get to Mike to walk down this street far away, and up a bunch of steps and follow this long sidewalk and go into another part of the building. I left and followed his directions but it was very dark and I saw a lot of men standing in spots doing whatever it is they were doing and I didn’t see anyplace that looked safe for me so I turned around and ran back down all the steps, back down the street and back to the door where I was thrown out. I had to go through all of the semi trucks scared to death that someone would jump out and grab me. I started breathing very hard, and trying to get my breathe. The man I had just spoken with was no longer around. I was hysterical. I knocked on the door where I was tossed out and a woman opened it and she YELLS.,,,”You again…you are not coming back in here.” I said “I have been very sick and I am very cold.” She said, “I don’t care if you die out there. ” It was about an hour that I have been out side in the cold when I saw 3 ladies who appeared to have just gotten off from work, leaving out of another part of the bldg. and I yelled for them to please help me. They stopped and I told them my story and at this point I was struggling to breathe from asthma. They took from me back into the area they had just left and told some man and woman in an office what had happened to me. I was now having a full blown asthma attack and crying. They called for the paramedics squad to come, they gave me a breathing treatment and tried to calm me. They kept asking me over and over again my name, age, where I lived, where I was staying in Cinci and I kept telling them over and over. They said, “why don’t you call your husband?”. Mike and I had left our cell phones in the hotel room. I told them I didn’t have my cell phone with me and he didn’t have his either. Finally one of the ladies who took me in called The Cincinnatian Hotel and asked for Mike Schreier’s room to leave a message. This woman who was helping me reached him on the cell phone and told him that I was having asthma attack and anxiety and the paramedics were working on me. Mike said that he came back to the hotel to get his phone because he couldn’t find me and thought that I would return to the hotel or else call or someone would try to reach him at the hotel. He was frantic. THEN……The paramedic said that I needed to go the Emergency Room by ambulance!!!! I said no I do not need to go the hospital. I can breathe fine. “Please let me go to the hotel in a cab.” Mike told them to put me in a cab to the hotel. The paramedic refused to do that and they forced me to get on a stretcher and tie me down and load me into an ambulance to The Christ Hospital. I was taken to a cubicle. The ER physician asked me if I needed a breathing treatment and I said no, I was fine. Mike took a cab and arrived at the hospital at this time. I said, “Look I am a 53 year old Registered Nurse with 30 years experience and my husband works in the medical field. I told him about the past 8 weeks with my illness and the medications but that I was doing well. He said, ” we will keep you here for about an hour and then recheck you and make our decision then.” It was now 1:15am. Finally, they discharged me and Mike and I called a cab to take us back to the hotel. Now it was 2:00 AM. I am home now, in bed just shaking my head in disbelief. (it was probably a blessing in disguise that the asthma showed up or I would have been out in the cold even longer and no one would have helped me. I didn’t know where to go to even find a cab to hail down. I was very lost at that huge US BANK ARENA.

Anyone who knows me knows I’m a big fan of Springsteen and E street I have every album on Vinyl as well as cd and when the new medium arives I will undoubtedly by them all again Some are better than others but I think you need to hear all of them to realy apreciate springsteen’s true genious. Not just the way he can paint a picture with lerics But the way he can paint so many different pictures with the same lerics Magic was a great begining for the songs on it but as with so many of his songs I’m sure we will see many more incarnations of these songs and they will all be great. I have to say though the live from Dublin album with the Seager sessions bans is My new yard stick to mesure all other albums by.
