Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Magic’: Exclusive Details on New E Street Band Album

8/16/07, 11:51 am EST

On October 2nd Bruce Springsteen will release Magic, his first album with the E Street Band since 2002’s The Rising. “We’ve been together since 1974 and I don’t think I’ve ever seen him more excited than he is right now about this record,” says Jon Landau, Springsteen’s manager.

The album was cut over two months at Southern Tracks studios in Atlanta with producer Brendan O’Brien, who previously worked with Springsteen on 2005’s Devils & Dust and The Rising.

The E Street Band mostly flew down on weekends to record, while Springsteen and O’Brien spent weekdays cutting vocals and recording overdubs. “This album is E Street Band heavy,” Landau says. “Clarence [Clemons] has some great moments on it. You could say that it’s a little more sonically guitar-driven than any past Bruce album. There are a few sort of pop, romantic touches that haven’t shown up recently, but were very prominent on the very early records.”

The lead single will be “Radio Nowhere,” a track Landau says “has a real anthemic quality to it. If it doesn’t get you out of your seat, I don’t know what will.” Landau is particularly excited about “The Long Walk Home,” which was performed live (click here to listen to an audience recording) on one occasion on the Seeger Sessions tour late last year. “It’s sort of the summational song of the album,” Landau says. “I think it’s one of Bruce’s great masterpieces.” Another track, “Girls in Their Summer Clothes,” Landau says has a “little bit of a Pet Sounds-type feeling mixed in with the sound of the E Street Band.” The final track, “Devil’s Arcade,” is described as one of the only songs on the album that delves into politics. “He gets some images across that are very powerful and will certainly give you a feeling of where he’s coming from, but on balance [politics] is not the primary intention of this record.”

A world tour with the E Street Band is reportedly going to kick off in early October, but Landau remains tight-lipped on the details. “As we speak, the tour has not been fully decided,” he says. Springsteen is also planning to promote the album on television, including late-night talk shows.

“What do you think about us doing American Idol?” Landau asks. “Come on, I’m kidding!”

Track Listing:

1. “Radio Nowhere”
2. “You’ll Be Comin’ Down”
3. “Livin’ in the Future”
4. “Your Own Worst Enemy”
5. “Gypsy Biker”
6. “Girls in Their Summer Clothes”
7. “I’ll Work for Your Love”
8. “Magic”
9. “Last to Die”
10. “Long Walk Home”
11. “Devil’s Arcade”

Anyone who knows me knows I’m a big fan of Springsteen and E street I have every album on Vinyl as well as cd and when the new medium arives I will undoubtedly by them all again Some are better than others but I think you need to hear all of them to realy apreciate springsteen’s true genious. Not just the way he can paint a picture with lerics But the way he can paint so many different pictures with the same lerics Magic was a great begining for the songs on it but as with so many of his songs I’m sure we will see many more incarnations of these songs and they will all be great. I have to say though the live from Dublin album with the Seager sessions bans is My new yard stick to mesure all other albums by.

Springsteen Concert US BANK AR | 3/28/2008, 3:05 pm EST

Subject: Night from Holy hell at Springsteen concert 3-22-08

Date: Monday, March 24, 2008 12:29 PM

…I had the night from holy hell last night in Cincinnati. My husband and I drove to Cinci. to spend Easter Weekend celebrating our wedding anniversary and our “Christmas Gifts” to each other (tickets to Springsteen). We checked into our very nice, large, comfortable room at the Cincinnatian Hotel had appetizers and took a cab to the Bruce Springsteen concert. We had 1st row seats on the side which were perfect seats that cost a lot of money. The show started and everything was going great. We were having a wonderful time. About half way into the show, I told Mike that I had to use the ladies room and I wanted to buy a Tee-shirt and I would be right back. I returned but got lost and couldn’t remember exactly where my seat was although I knew it was section 110, front row, however I couldn’t find it! I was over one section too many so I knew was very close. Anyway, I walked all the way down the aisle where an Usher, who was guarding the floor portion so no one could come onto the floor without a ticket. I told him that I was lost but that I was sitting in the vicinity to my right just behind the portioned off section on the front row, but not on the floor. He said show me your ticket and I will find your seat. I said my husband has my ticket in his pocket but if I could just walk along the floor with you going with me then I am sure I will spot him and can return to my seat. Will this arrangement be ok? He said sure as long as I go with you. So off we went on the floor and I was looking to my right the entire time but didn’t see Mike. We were very close to the people standing in front of the stage and I said to the young man that we had walked too far up and needed to turn around and go back a few rows when suddenly a woman security officer says very hatefully to me, “Where’s your ticket?” The young man told her I didn’t have one and was trying to find my seat. She said, “Throw her out NOW, Your are out of here NOW! ” I said, ” No, wait, I am lost looking for my husband.” All of sudden 3 security officers came up to me and each one took an arm and the other one was behind me pushing me to move along the floor. I said “wait a minute here. I lost my seat, my husband has my ticket”, when I spotted Mike. He saw me as well and he saw them holding my arms and pushing me and he tried to jump over the railing but other guards prevented him from doing so telling him he had to go all around the top of the building and down the other side to get to where they were taking me. He did that and still couldn’t get out of the building to where I was. I was being led out by the guards and I was saying “please someone listen to me. You don’t understand what I am saying.” The officer said, “if you say another word you will be handcuffed and hauled off to jail.” All of a sudden a door was opened and I was LITERALLY thrown, SHOVED by these 3 officers out the door into a dark back alley where many semi-trailers were parked. I didn’t have a coat as it was left with my husband in my seat. I was all alone for about 30 minutes shivering when I saw a man in a dark jacket and looked as though me may be working there, and I said, “please help me”, and I told him my story. I was crying hysterically by this time and I said I had just gotten over an illness and I shouldn’t be out in the cold breathing the night air. He said, “Man, there is nothing I can do, and truthfully no one cares what happens to you at this point. You are not going into the concert ever again tonight. ” I said, ” how can I get to my husband?” He said “without your ticket, you aren’t.” I said “but you know I have a ticket because I was inside, I bought a Tee-shirt” He said if I wanted to get to Mike to walk down this street far away, and up a bunch of steps and follow this long sidewalk and go into another part of the building. I left and followed his directions but it was very dark and I saw a lot of men standing in spots doing whatever it is they were doing and I didn’t see anyplace that looked safe for me so I turned around and ran back down all the steps, back down the street and back to the door where I was thrown out. I had to go through all of the semi trucks scared to death that someone would jump out and grab me. I started breathing very hard, and trying to get my breathe. The man I had just spoken with was no longer around. I was hysterical. I knocked on the door where I was tossed out and a woman opened it and she YELLS.,,,”You again…you are not coming back in here.” I said “I have been very sick and I am very cold.” She said, “I don’t care if you die out there. ” It was about an hour that I have been out side in the cold when I saw 3 ladies who appeared to have just gotten off from work, leaving out of another part of the bldg. and I yelled for them to please help me. They stopped and I told them my story and at this point I was struggling to breathe from asthma. They took from me back into the area they had just left and told some man and woman in an office what had happened to me. I was now having a full blown asthma attack and crying. They called for the paramedics squad to come, they gave me a breathing treatment and tried to calm me. They kept asking me over and over again my name, age, where I lived, where I was staying in Cinci and I kept telling them over and over. They said, “why don’t you call your husband?”. Mike and I had left our cell phones in the hotel room. I told them I didn’t have my cell phone with me and he didn’t have his either. Finally one of the ladies who took me in called The Cincinnatian Hotel and asked for Mike Schreier’s room to leave a message. This woman who was helping me reached him on the cell phone and told him that I was having asthma attack and anxiety and the paramedics were working on me. Mike said that he came back to the hotel to get his phone because he couldn’t find me and thought that I would return to the hotel or else call or someone would try to reach him at the hotel. He was frantic. THEN……The paramedic said that I needed to go the Emergency Room by ambulance!!!! I said no I do not need to go the hospital. I can breathe fine. “Please let me go to the hotel in a cab.” Mike told them to put me in a cab to the hotel. The paramedic refused to do that and they forced me to get on a stretcher and tie me down and load me into an ambulance to The Christ Hospital. I was taken to a cubicle. The ER physician asked me if I needed a breathing treatment and I said no, I was fine. Mike took a cab and arrived at the hospital at this time. I said, “Look I am a 53 year old Registered Nurse with 30 years experience and my husband works in the medical field. I told him about the past 8 weeks with my illness and the medications but that I was doing well. He said, ” we will keep you here for about an hour and then recheck you and make our decision then.” It was now 1:15am. Finally, they discharged me and Mike and I called a cab to take us back to the hotel. Now it was 2:00 AM. I am home now, in bed just shaking my head in disbelief. (it was probably a blessing in disguise that the asthma showed up or I would have been out in the cold even longer and no one would have helped me. I didn’t know where to go to even find a cab to hail down. I was very lost at that huge US BANK ARENA.

MISSION MAN | 12/6/2007, 5:57 pm EST

NOT THAT I AM SURPRISED OR SHOULD ANYONE CARE BUT THE GRAMMY’S ARE A JOKE AND WILL ALWAYS BE CONSIDERED A JOKE. AMY WINEHOUSE AND VINCE GILL? PLEASE. BETTER THEY IGNORE BRUCE THEN LUMP HIM IN WITH THE CLOWNS.

William | 12/5/2007, 1:23 pm EST

We’ll yet another tour goes past with the Boss missing out Scotland but this time its even worse he is playing every other country in the UK. I just wonder what his problem with Scotland is. I love the music and have travelled in the past to gigs however i had the option of pre order tickets last night and when i thought bout the over all cost ticket £65 then bus or flights then hotel not to mention things like tees and the like it just wasnt going to happen not when he has dissed Scotland since the playhouse in 96. total joke

CJ | 11/18/2007, 8:46 pm EST

Bruce, you are rocking the Garden right now in Boston. I am going tomorrow night and bringing my 10 year old daughter. She would love to hear Santa Claus is Coming to Town, if you can add that to the list!

If you do, her name is Paula and she’ll be in Section 316!

Bob Petcher | 11/16/2007, 3:26 pm EST

OK This is my final word too. Unlike The Rising, I am still playing this three weeks after I got it. You shouldn’t like it and don’t want to like it but, after all I have said, I love it.
Still pissed that the only UK date is a the O2 - may as well watch him on TV!

Robert | 11/14/2007, 1:08 pm EST

Jesus, Rolling Stone, it’s time to kill this stupid thread. “old stuff better..Blah blah blah” Wah Wah Wah. I’m sure your wives wish you all could still prove it all night as well.
Bruce, Hope you’re not wasting your time reading this crap but if you are Shout out to Section D22 in PGH tonight. Cya.

WALTER,WE GET IT. BRUCES’ NEW MUSIC WILL NEVER APPROACH THE HEIGHTS OF HIS CLASSIC MATERIAL. NOT MANY ARTISTS CAN OR HAVE APPROACHED THAT PLATEAU THE WAY BRUCE DID. I ENJOY IT EVEN THOUGH IT’S NOT “BORN TO RUN” OR “DARKNESS”. HIS MUSIC STILL ROCKS AND HE STILL WRITES MEANINGFUL LYRICS, UNLIKE MOST MUSICIANS TODAY. HE ALSO DOESN’T SELL HIS MUSIC TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER. IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT THAT’S FINE. YOUR ENTITLED TO THAT LIKE I AM ENTITLED TO ENJOY THE NEW ALBUM. PEACE.

In America we refer to “UK” as someone getting their ass kicked and we have to come and save them. Oh, wait, I do know why they refer to it as a “UK.”

Of course, I’m not the sharpest tool because I can see the great music Bruce once did and now see that he is turning out garbage and not afraid to say so…yep, that makes sense to me.

Bob Petcher | 11/7/2007, 5:03 pm EST

In UK we refer to someone as a “Walter” if they aint quite the sharpest tool in the box. I wondered where the expression came from but I guess I know now.

Walter | 11/7/2007, 3:25 am EST

Hey Bruce, I’m gonna be in my backyard…please come play. How can you call this a world tour if you won’t even play my backyard? Please Bruce, don’t let us down this time…please play my backyard…PLEASE, PLEASE.

Bob Petcher | 11/2/2007, 2:47 pm EST

I finally got it and it is everything I expected - good but not great- but I’ve played it four times a day this week. (I did exactly the same with The Rising for a week or so but haven’t played it since’
The influences are there to be heard: some Gary US Bonds, some Beach BOys and even some recycled lyrics from “My Hometown”.

But what the hell. It’s better than most of the albums that have come out of late but it still aint Modern Times.

Walter | 10/31/2007, 9:36 pm EST

OK, I see that some of you took offence to what I wrote about Bruce. I guess I’m not a true fan because I didn’t say what a great album Magic is…it isn’t, this is only the second time I couldn’t find one song on a Springsteen album I liked…man, I lived and died for a Springsteen album after I heard Born to Run in 1975. I never had to hear one song; I just ran out and bought the album and was never disappointed. But now I see that because I don’t like what he has done in the ’90s and ’00s I am a jerk.

If any of the albums such as Lucky Town, Ghost of Tom Joad, The Rising or Magic, were the first album’s I heard from Bruce, I would not like him as an artist. But there are a lot of singers that people love and I don’t understand why…well, I don’t get why everyone is saying how great these albums are except that you are the ones living in the past. Bruce is the best singer/songwriter next to Tom Waits and because I think he’s lost it, I’m an asshole…great; I’d rather be an asshole than a suck up like so many people here. At least I was honest in what I wrote.

When someone comes out with album after album that is great - and you say it’s great - but then they come out with mediocre at best…you have to admit it. Magic is not a good album. I’ve been listening to it off and on since it came out…I hate it. OK, tell me what a jerk I am because I tell you the truth…You make an album like the Wild and Innocent and then Born to Run and try to compare Magic to either of those albums, I’d slit my wrists before I’d listen to Magic over and over…my God, the King is in his underwear - no he’s not, he is naked…he’s got no clothes on people…come on, can’t you see it?

OK, I’m done. And what is sad, is that I saw all of his concerts up until just after he broke-up with the band and he was ALWAYS amazing, then I saw him in 2000 and he was just going through the motions for 2 1/2 hours. It was a boring concert - and I wasn’t the only one that felt that way - I think some people have to be new Springsteen fans to really think Magic is good…If you had grown-up with the music from the ’70s and ’80s (and those great 4-5 hour concerts), maybe you could understand why I am so disappointed that Springsteen lost it (and please don’t tell me it’s because it’s a political album; Jackson Brown had a great album called Life’s in the Balance that I love to listen to even to this day and I disagree with all the politics of the album, but it is still one of my favorite albums. If you want to do a political album, do one…but do it with good songs and not this rehashed, re-trashed, crap that is called Magic).

But you know what…maybe I’ll give it another listen tonight and I’ll change my mind. You never know. I hate Springsteen’s new music…please, notice that I didn’t say I hate Springsteen….oh, and for the guy that said I was out of line for calling his soon to be ex-wife a slut…she should never have been in the band - that’s when he started to go downhill - and Springsteen is just as much a slut for cheating on his wife with that slut…opps, I did it again.

CJ | 10/31/2007, 12:43 pm EST

Bruce, if you are out there, I will be seeing you on 11/19 in Boston. PLEASE PLAY KITTY’S BACK as you did in CA. That would be fabulous!!!

oldBruce | 10/30/2007, 3:57 pm EST

Frank,

“Great” is a little strong don’t you think?

‘Magic’ CD is OK.

Apparently you’ve never listened to an older album of his called ‘Born To Run’ You should try it sometime.

Now that could be considered “great”.

Frank | 10/28/2007, 11:40 pm EST

I stood in the Spectrum as a teenager during the River Tour and experienced what I called then (and still do) “a religious experience”. You left those three and a half hour concerts dripping wet and exhausted but you couldn’t help but feel that you had been changed somehow. I’m 42 now. I recently picked up “Magic” and it is truly Amazing! Bruce is still able to make you think. You can’t help but be taken in by his stories. It definitely stirs the emotions. The CD is Great! The band sounds Great! Thanks, guys.

MISSION MAN | 10/26/2007, 9:37 pm EST

I REALLY THINK PEOPLE COMPLAIN JUST FOR THE SAKE OF COMPLAINING. IF HE REALLY WANTED TO MAKE MONEY THE TOUR WOULD BE SPONSORED BY A BIG CORPORATION LIKE BUDWEISER AND THE TICKETS WOULD COST A HELL OF A LOT MORE.MAYBE HE SHOULD SELL HIS MUSIC CATALOG LIKE EVERY OTHER SELL-OUT ROCK BAND LIKE THE STONES,MELLENCAMP,AND AEROSMITH,TO NAME A FEW. ENJOY THE MUSIC.

Bob Petcher | 10/26/2007, 2:44 pm EST

The problem is it is the same explosion every night. I have seen him many times and even been to different cities on the same tour. The performance is pretty much identical with the same cracks to the crowd, set list etc.
I began to get disillusioned with Tracks. I bought the full set which in UK was over $70 and then
there was the release of Some Tracks; sort of a ‘Best of’ which is fair enough but then we get three new tracks that weren’t on the original so what’s the motivation to that if it aint dollars? If you want to have the full back-catalogue you have to buy seven songs that you’ve already got! Maybe it was the record company?

Canadian for Bruce 2008! | 10/26/2007, 12:20 pm EST

This might be one of the best albums i’ve heard in a while. Not Bruce’s, but altogether for the last 10-15 years. It has a few anti-war songs, but it is still a album anyone can listen to. 30 years after Born to Run and he is still an explosion on stage. Easily the best concert i’ve been to besides his Born to Run tour in ‘75. For anyone that says he is either doing it for the money or politics need to think about something. He is a “rock and roller”, he is doing tours and making albums for the love of music.

oldBruce | 10/26/2007, 11:47 am EST

Michael,

Track 12 on Bruce’ Magic CD should be ‘Terry’s Song’

ant | 10/25/2007, 5:26 am EST

Bruce’s older work stands out for me more so than his new stuff (but maybe we don’t relate as closely to 9/11 as you guys in the states) so for me The Rising wasn’t the best I’ve heard from Bruce. Let’s hope the new album rekindles the fire as much as the Live in New York album did for me. But hey Bruce, how can it be a world tour if you aren’t coming to Cape Town In South Africa, weather’s great in Jan/Feb,you’ll fill some venues and we can rock! Make it a first.

Michael | 10/23/2007, 7:38 pm EST

Somebody PLEASE tell me what the title to Track 12 is on Magic ??? It’s driving me crazy !

Bob Petcher | 10/20/2007, 6:17 pm EST

Haven’t heard the album yet but heard the single and performances of most of the tracks. In the old days - up to The Rising - I would be first in the queue on the day an album was released but I haven’t got round to buying Magic yet. Perhaps that says something about the way I am beginning to feel about Bruce. I am not sure about the motivation with this one?

Is it ‘politicking’ (sic) or is it dollars? Not so sure that it’s the music? But don’t got me wrong, I would still class myself as a fan but, having watched Bruce for over 30 years, I have begun to recognise that the image and performance is a little more carefully rehearsed and polished than it would first appear.

(I pre-ordered Dylan’s Modern Times the minute it was announced and wasn’t dissappointed)

spatton | 10/19/2007, 1:31 pm EST

I re arraiged the songs and created my own “Magic” and it sounds alot better and yes I got to see “Bruce” in Philly and its hard… we want to hear so many songs and we get about 2% of what you want but alot of the problem is the Arena have contracts with town ordinance they will stop all live music before 11:30 if you notice all concert are over before 11:30 now a days. I put the following songs on my Magic CD
1. Last to die
2 Living in the Future
3. long way home
4. Radio’s Home
5. Magic
6. I’ll work for you love
7. Gypsy biker
Lonesome day
8. Girls in the summer clothes
all that heavon will allow
9. Devils Arcade
Jungleland
10.youll be coming down
prove it all night
11.your own worst enemy
Rising
12 dedication

oldBruce | 10/18/2007, 2:52 pm EST

Hi dey. I think I got your number. I also don’t see a whole lot of magic in ‘Magic.’
There are few bright spots. Certainly I wouldn’t consider this a great CD, but it’s good.
Better than Devils & Dust, but then again that’s not saying too much. The songs are simple, and if you
read what some of the others are saying, you would come to the conclusion that this is
the changed Bruce, and somehow we need to accept it and move on. OK, I can do that. Not much
care for his ticket price, nor the shorter concerts however.

Anyways, here’s my take on each song.

Radio Nowhere - solid beat and sharp guitar; lyrics are empty however.
You’ll Be Comin’ Down - I like this one; everyone will relate to it.
Livin’ in the Future - A hint of a younger Bruce, like something from ‘The River’; can dance to this one!
Your Own Worst Enemy - Can’t listen beyond the first line; vocal a little painful
Gypsy Biker - Starts off incredible; excellent guitar work; missing something however.
Girls in Their Summer Clothes - Nice harmony; reminds me of ‘Surfer Girl’ from Beach Boys.
I’ll Work for Your Love - Sounds like an older Billy Joel song that I cannot name; it’s not something your going to reach for when you need a Bruce fix however
Magic - no magic here, unless you consider the lack of a main melody a disappearing trick :)
Last to Die - beat and rhythm incredible, but I think the lyrics are a disservice to those
who are in harms way at the moment. There will be some military parents at Bruce’ concerts and he needs to respect that a little more, even though he is in opposition to the war, which is understandable.
Long Walk Home - was his older song ‘All the way home’ an inspiration for this one? This is decent and the sax solo is awesome.
Devil’s Arcade - a tribute to our military? Long overdue and will probably not be enough, but at least it’s a start.
Terry’s Song - awesome dedication to his friend, Terry Magovern. Best song on the CD.

What’s your take?

dey | 10/16/2007, 10:57 pm EST

I truly love Bruce Springsteen’s body of work. Maybe the new disc will grow on me but I listened to it three times and it’s pretty damn boring. Nothing stands out. There must be a new melody in there somewhere…if I can just find it. These worshipful comments remind me of the “Leave Brittney Alone!” post. Anybody have an intelligent comment about this album? Anyone? I ‘m looking for something better than “I’ll kill you if you don’t love Bruce’s table scraps.” Hello?

Wow, I’ve some moronic postings before but that Campissy moron has set a new low. After you take you head our of your ass, perhaps you should stick to listening to Huey Lewis and the News. Springsteen is way, way, way beyond your comprehension. I had a English prof who used to tell pompous, know-nothing twits who denegrated great artists that they need to look at the possibility that the problem isn’t the work, it’s your inability to understand it. Stick to Styx moron.

Bruce needs to lengthen his concerts a little..

Less political BS and more rock for your $100 bucks I say.

#12 is Terry’s Song, a song he wrote for his assistant and long-time friend who recently passed away.

BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU UUUUUUUUCE!

The album is fantastic.

oldBruce | 10/8/2007, 3:27 pm EST

Regarding Bruce’s 60 Minutes interview where he is talking about habeas corpus (a writ for inquiring into the lawfulness of the restraint of a person who is imprisoned or detained in another’s custody) and Bruce also mentioned the right to have a lawyer. For who are you referring to Bruce?

If you were referring to American detainees who are under suspicion of terrorism, then yes, give them rights to a lawyer, and either come up with a set of charges within a “reasonable” period of time, or let them go.

Or were you referring to the prisoners at Guantanamo Bay? If that is who you are referring to, then you got to be kidding. They are prisoners of war! They were caught on the battlefield throwing bombs and shooting at our military. Americans don’t need to be paying lawyer fees (via taxes) for a group of guys who will admit that if given the opportunity to be free again, they would like to kill as many Americans as possible. I think sometime during ‘Where the Bands Are” you shook your brains just little too much.

Bruce Springsteen’s “Magic” is a Trick of Craven Public Relations

Bruce should spend less time ginning up false controversy and more time actually playing music (in my opinion).

After watching 60 minutes, it re-affirms why I love and respect Bruce. His words were from the heart as his songs are. He gives us hope and faith and he makes me want to be a better person. Keep doing what your doing, Bruce - people are listening…

Fran | 10/8/2007, 12:37 am EST

One more comment from a Republican Bruce fan…again after seeing his 60 minutes piece tonite…He is so true, so real and the least sell out of any one of his generation….Darkness on the Edge and the old Bruce stuff was incredible and holds up to this day…however, Walter and the others who complain about the new music…have you read the liner notes to The Rising…It is absolutely the most poignant tribue to 911 by anyone…and even though your heart strings are tugged, he adds upbeat songs like Waiting on a sunny day to bring you back to hope… Can’t wait to see at least two of the shows on this tour….And if Bruce’s people read these blogs…please tell him to play Candy’s Room when he is on his Southern leg of the tour!!

Fran | 10/7/2007, 10:03 pm EST

Just read the set lists from several of the latest shows…. Candy’s Room, The Rising and Waiting On a Sunny Day in one show.. I can’t wait…I saw Bruce several times in the ’80’s and the Rising tour 3 times…He just gets better with age…and I agree with the other postings…my husband and I are taking kids this time too

Rock critic Jon Landau once said, ” I have seen the future of rock and roll, and its name is Bruce Springsteen.” Well speaking for myself, I hope the future is more like the past in that we are lucky enough to get more music like this from Bruce and the E-Street Band. It’s been a long time since an album, or cd, raised the hairs on the back of my neck. Thanks for more great music Bruce !

But nasty personal comments about the guy and his family are just wrong. Grow up and get more involved in your own life and try and make a differnce in this world.

Walter, the slut remark was pretty nasty. Definitely undeserving.

I still stand by what I said.
Since I enjoy many different types of music, I have seen many bands and solo artists in concert. I can honestly say Bruce and the E Street Band give the best concerts I’ve ever been to. I know the Magic Tour will be no different.
By the way, Bruce is human. I suppose you’ve never said you wouldn’t do something and ended up doing it sooner or later. Lighten up.

See Bruce interviewed about Presley? He was asked, “Did Elvis let you down, in the end?” The “saint” says, “Man, Elvis didn’t owe anybody Anything! He brought more joy into this world than anybody”. Catch Bruce talkin’ about the title of the new cd? He said it was about how peeps can be tricked, making a lie out of truth, and truth from a lie. Kind of like the old saying, “If you don’t do politics, politics will do you”. There’s 59 million Americans who were under a “Magic” spell, when they voted for the “decider” in the White House. The spell has been broken. 01.20.09-C’mon!

WALTER,GROW UP AND MOVE ON.WHAT WAS IS IN THE PAST. HIS MUSIC HAS MATURED AND WILL NEVER BE WHAT HE WROTE WHEN HE WAS YOUNGER. IT IS STILL GREAT, JUST DIFFERENT. HIS CONCERTS MAY NOT ROCK ON AS LONG AS THEY USED TO BUT FOR MY MONEY HE STILL PUTS ON THE BEST SHOW. HE IS 58 YEARS OLD, SO IT IS NORMAL THAT HE SLOWED DOWN JUST A LITTLE. NOT MUCH THOUGH. THE SLUT COMMENT WAS WRONG AND OFF-BASE TOO. TRY TO ENJOY THE MUSIC.

CJ | 9/27/2007, 12:26 pm EST

You cannot expect Bruce to be the same performer as he was 30+ years ago. He has matured, as has his fans. We are different now that we are older. There are more responsibilities which just changes people. I will try and see Bruce whenever I can; I have not been to a lousy concert yet. Were the best concerts the early years? Yes, but the Rising tour was great too. I got tickets to the Boston show in November and am taking my 10 year old daughter. I want her to see someone other than the Hannah Montanas of this world!

I was there for the power and the glory of the darkness and river tours, before stadium shows. We felt like keepers of a secret, not everyone was on to Bruce yet, despite the great reviews.then he blew up for the Born in the USA tour and everyone was on the bandwagon. For me it will never be like that again, when the band blew the fuckin roof off every joint, every night. But I still can close my eyes litening to Jungleland,or the Darkness album and really feel it.I’m older now,as is Bruce.Iloved Nebraska, hated Tom Joad. But I saw what some people will never see;an artist so good,so real;that he left it all on the stage every night. The audience was equally comitted,a rare thing. After the Rising tour, I didn’t think I’d be back.I’m gonna goone more time,I have to.My 17 year old daughter has Born to Run on her I-Pod, I think thats pretty cool.

Walter | 9/25/2007, 2:36 am EST

Bruuuuuuce luvr, I just want to point out that in the ’70s and ’80s Bruce did what he wanted to make great music and money really wasn’t his number one concerned - sadly now that he can’t do it anymore, money is part of the problem…IMNHO (even though he didn’t have a lot of it). Yet after BNUSA he was pressured to make a pop album - a pop album is the same to normal musicians - and even though it was a very pop album it had a look of down right rock mixed in with Down Right POP rock. then the ’90s came and I say FUCK you Bruce. You said you wouldn’t ever do a Greatest Hits album and made fun of people that did; you released two albums on the same day just because you knew your true fans (like me) would buy them both even though one album only had to songs that were OK and the rest you couldn’t listen to.

Then you yes, came out with the cd I spoke about earlier…you Greatest hist…your greates blunder in my mind.

The rising you tried hard but missed the mark — I only liked off that cd “You’re Missing,” and “Further on up the Road.”

Then that pathetic Dirtbuster cd I heard it once and just like the album I will never talk about (although it did have one of BS best song in years and that was “Jones Town) I’m talking about Ghost of Tom Toad…I mean Joad.

Everyone says Magic Magic and it has the who band…I say get rid of his ex-slut and it has the band I care about. Don’t get me worng…there was a time I bought any Springsteen cd right (they were albums when I bought my first in 1975 (or was that 1875 to you young ones) Born to Run and I didn’t hate any songs on it. And that was how it was until Born in USA…couldn’t stand Glory Days, and there are a few more I am missing…but it was just a couple that I didn’t like, how many other musicians can do that…none that I listen to except my body Tom Waits.

So then the concerts…saw him in SAC CA 1975 tour - hardly anyone in the crowded…but he killed. Saw him twice on the Darkness Tour in the bay area…he killed and was now playing about three hour shows. Saw him once on Nebraska without the band, it was great, but would have been better with the band. Saw him twice on Born in USA Played well over four and a half each night and close to five hours second night.

Saw him twice on Tunnel of Love tour and he played for about 3 hours first night and about 4 hrs 15 min second night.
Did’t see him again until 2000 and it was the worse concert. I paid a lot of money and I wasnted him to give me what he gave me in 1975 when I paid 12.00 to see him and he ripped the place apart.

Springstenn was genious…saidly, I am not holding my breath that Magic will bring it back. Still, anyone want to give me a free ticket so I can see if he’s got it back yet??? Also, a free CD so I can come back here after listening to it and give you an honest opinion of the cd.

Bruuuuuuce luvr wrote the following: P.S. Bet all you haters can’t do what you use to do -back in the day:
And I will comment on what Bruuuuuuuce luvr wrote: I may not be able to do whay I could do in the day, but I don’ charge the one people that can least aford it (my fan) an arm and a leg to get a watered down version of what the once great Springsteen was…and oh, it was magic then, hope it will be majic again…but I won’t hold my breath

To all of you out there: A true fan, is just that - true. You either are or you never were. First time I saw Bruce & the E Street Band in 1978,I was hooked. I’ve been fortunate enough to see him at least once on every tour he’s done since. He has given his fans music with lyrics that say something - some songs more than others. He is not perfect. To all of the doubters out there: give the man some slack. He does his best and what he believes in. Who else do you know that goes off in other directions musically, because that is what he feels is where he needs to go. He is true to himself and does what he feels is right for himself, musically. That’s his right, that’s his job, he’s a musician. I have alot of admiration & respect for someone who does what he does, with the passion he has towards it. The bottom line is “passion”. He has it and will continue to deliver til the end. I’m looking forward to Oct 2nd, can hardly wait to hear the new cd and very excited to see them rock us all night long. Keep doing what you do Bruce. P.S. Bet all you haters can’t do what you use to do -back in the day…..

Everyone has valid points here.

I was just making a statement that Bruce needs to be aware of the scam that Ticketmaster is pulling on his fans. A Building Facility charge of $4.50 per ticket? What’s that? A charge to use the restrooms? Come on. We need open competition in all free markets and ticket brokering should be no exception. Otherwise, tickets for Springsteen, Rolling Stones, Genesis, and Hannah Montana (who the are they?) will continue to be out of line. Bruce is in a position to at least go his own way and put pressure on Ticketmaster to drop or lower the convenience and “building facility”
fees if he wanted.

All this debate about Bruce’s past and recent efforts, cost of tickets, political views, etc. are just trivial nonsense. He’s just an artist whose music people–his fans–can identify with. What’s so appealing with Bruce is his commitment to his music and growing as an artist. I don’t necessarily love all his work, Seeger Sessions e.g., but I support him because he’s an artist who’s music has supported me when I was down and his music would always leave me with faith and hope. His concerts separate him from all performers with his energy and command of music. View his concert videos and live and just look at the people’s faces…the joy and happiness he brings to these people is amazing. This is why he is great! In today’s culture of sex, violence and utter nonsense you can always count on Bruce to set a standard that other artist fail to achieve. No sexual posturing on tabloid television or on stage, no throwing furniture out of hotel windows, no dangling of babies, over ledges, no hyperbaric chambers or monkey friends, no silly costumes or sacrilegious symbols; all these acts are intended to create publicity to make up for these artists shortcomings as an artist and a person, in my view. Very few artists are in Bruce’s league, but names like Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, U2, The Who, Rolling Stones, to name a few, come to mind. So, if you’re a fan just enjoy Bruce as he grows and stop complaining. If you’re a detractor think about who your favorites are and compare them to Bruce in terms of performing live and music/lyrical compostion, and as a person, and see if those artists measure up.

Walter's | 9/14/2007, 6:42 pm EST

Hey pissedoffBrucefan: it’s the nature of the beast. In the early ’80s I attended a concert for The River Tour paid about 19.00 for a ticket plus 2.00 to Ticket Masters. A few years later I saw Bruce on the Nebraska Tour and paid around 23.00 and then I saw him on Born in USA and paid about 27.00. All these amounts at the time seemed like a lot of money and to see that we are at 89.00 now, doesn’t seem tht out of line.

It is what it is and you have to decide if the entertainment is worth it. In all the concerts that I mentioned above, I think it was well worth it, but after seeing Bruce in 2000, I don’t think he is putting on the same quality concert he once did. Doesn’t mean that I am saying don’t go; just doesn’t really seem worth it to me anymore.

I UNDERSTAND YOUR GRIEF ABOUT THE TICKET PRICES AND WITH A FAMILY OF FOUR EVERY DOLLAR COUNTS, BUT TO BE FAIR IF YOU LOOK AT AN ACT LIKE THE STONES WHO EVEN HAVE A CORPORATE SPONSOR FOR THEIR TOURS THEY CHARGE IN EXCESS OF 200.00. FOR TODAYS MUSICAINS, BRUCE IS PRETTY REASONABLE. BELEIVE ME THOUGH, I FEEL YOUR PAIN AND WILL BE CUTTING CORNERS MYSELF TO TRY AND GET 4 TICKETS.

pissedoffBrucefan | 9/14/2007, 4:52 pm EST

Dear Bruce,

You got a lot of nerve to ask for an $89.00 ticket price for November 14th at Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh, PA, when you should be aware that Ticketmaster is tacking on the following fees:

Convenience Charge: $9.15
Building Facility Charge: $4.50

For a grand total of: $102.65

Your full of greed. You grew up not having a lot of money, worked very hard to earn what you have, and now have completely forgotten:

1) what it’s like to not have a lot of extra money
2) the people who helped make you rich

Way to go. You could lower the ticket price to compensate for what Ticketmaster has done, or choose another ticket service altogether.

You have turned your back on us.

Sincerely,
one pissedoffBrucefan

MISSION MAN: Your not crazy. Here is the post you were referring to:

John Campisi | 9/3/2007, 1:35 pm EST

Bruce Springsteen is grossly overrrated. He can’t sing, he can’t write songs, and his blue collar/working class image is phony. Can you say “washed up dinosaur”???

Maybe John is referring to Bruce’ later years? But if he wasn’t, then how could he say that can’t write when one only has to look at the lyrics in the following list:

Born to Run
Thunder Road
Lost in the Flood
Blinded By The Light
Spirits in the Night (must be your song)
Jungleland
Backst reets
The River

Some of these songs are actually small books. And this is only a few, there’s plenty more.

Sorry I was so hard on you. You know what your talking about.

I think we both can agree that Bruce is not writing with the same intensity that he did in 1975, but that doesn’t mean he should give it up. I’ll take any Bruce over having no Bruce at all.

You had it right. Enjoy the show!

Hey willie the janitor: I’m sorry, where does it take guts for an entertainer to stand up for their politics?? Maybe if they are conservative it takes guts; someone like Springsteen, it’d takes guts for him to shut-up and just sing. Takes guts to stand-up for your politics…give me a break. Now if he’d come out with a great album again, that might take guts.

Walter's | 9/12/2007, 7:37 pm EST

Hey Sierraborn: Don’t want to burst your bubble about the 1985 CA Bay area concerts, but first of all they were in the Oakland Stadium where the A’s play (not SF) and I went to both concerts and can tell you that neither went until 4:30 in the morning - I wish they had, because I didn’t want to go home when they were over on either night; Springsteen was in great form both nights and I had already seen him 6 times previous (1 night in 1975 on Born to Run tour, twice on Darkness tour, twice on the River tour and once on the Nebraska tour - Nebraska tour was only tour I saw him on that he didn’t have the E-Street Band with him) and he just brought the house down. I almost felt as if it was the first time I was seeing him.

The first night he started at 7:30 and played for about 45 minutes (no opening band - he can open for himself) came back at about 9:00 and ripped the place apart until about 1:00 in the morning (it was over 4 ½ hours). The second night was about the same but he played until about 1:30, 1:45 ish. Maybe the word was that he played over 4 and ½ hours in Oakland…but trust me, it didn’t go until 4:30 in the morning.

Wonder if he every has played until 4:30 in the morning…He doesn’t even play long concerts anymore…he’s getting old like me.

When he came out with Nebraska my then girlfriend and I fought about that album. I thought it was fantastic and I got pissed at every review that said otherwise (and still think that way) but she said, “Just because you love him doesn’t mean others can’t have a different opinion.” She didn’t like the album (ya THINK), but hey, she was right; about the opinion part that is.

You know what made Born to Run so good, no one ever (IMHO) every wrote anything that good. It wasn’t almost like watching a movie (it was watching a movie to listen to that album) and you had to start at the beginning and go to the end, or you missed part of the movie. I LOVED Darkness on the edge of Town. I LOVED The River. I LOVED Nebraska. I thought Born in the USA was a darn good album. Songs on Tunnle of Love still blow me away.

OK…if you read my post, you know the rest. I’m sorry, I am a fan of what he once did. And if that is all I have, it is the best music anyone every did. Yep, mock me because I’d rather see Tom Waits in concert…why is that, because in 2000 I saw Bruce do what I’d never expected he had in him to do; a concert like everyone else does. Oh most of the music was assume…but there wasn’t any there, there.

I saw him for the first time in a small arena in Sacramento CA in 1975 (I only had his album for two month…and hardly anyone was at the concert) and he played as if his life depended on it. I almost felt like I didn’t pay enough money; yes, Bruce got gypped, because he played like we paid hundreds of dollars to attend.

The concerts got better as the years went on and I felt that all I had to know was that a Springsteen album was out and I didn’t have to hear one song to buy it. Sadly, that isn’t the case anymore.

So if everyone thinks he is fantastic, that is great…when I hear his old stuff I can’t argue that…but please…Let someone that lived Springsteen mostly from the time he first started, have an opinion. I don’t doubt that his music means the world to you. It once did for me.

There was a time that I couldn’t wait to get the latest Springsteen and waited years between releases, but things change. I’ve changed and Bruce has changed. I don’t get into his music anymore and he doesn’t get my dollar’s anymore…but I think he’ll do just fine.

Now, if Magic (which is a dumb name; Radio Nowhere is a better name) is a great album (I don’t even care if it compares to Born to Run or not, I just want a glimpse of the genius) I will buy it and be happy to do so. Can you imagine the magic if he could only do an album even half as good as Born to Run…oh, takes my breathe away.

I agree that anyone that says he can’t sing doesn’t understand him (he doesn’t have a pure singing voice, but it comes purely from the heart when he is on - but then again, Tom Waits sings with heart too…maybe that’s why I love them both). Anyway, I hope that Magic is Magic this time out.

I want to point out that I thought You’re Missing may be one of the saddest songs Springsteen every wrote and I thought Further on up the Road was pure magic in the old Springsteen sense. So, if anyone is still reading this. Ra Ra and Goooooo TEAM!!!

Does anyone know how to get in touch with Jon Landau. It is concerning getting a real cool story to him about a Fire Truck that is named after one of bruces songs that rides proud down the street. It also has a 911 story catch to it.

Thanks

How great for me that I can still find something that moves me in 30 year old Albums(CD’s). How sad for my kids that whan they look back on their music, it will be completely hollow, or worse, just plain angry.

I heard the entire album….
And Radio nowhere is one of the worst tracks, this album is great and the best of the bost since Born in the U.S.A!! What a genius!!!
This is truly magic, even the non-believers will see that…
Go and buy yourself a copy when it comes out on october 2nd,this album deserves it big time!!

yaz | 9/8/2007, 1:00 pm EST

Campisi - he is lost in the flood. Enough said.
No one but maybe Dylan has put out more quality and variety of music throughout his career. Always inspiring and goosebump evoking whether it’s the joy of life like Spirits In The Night, or the desperation of Johnny 99 or the reaching hope of my City of Ruins, Bruce delivers. (A few not totally memorable albums aside). Who else has been this plentiful this long and still Proves it All Night?!

Lance Rooney | 9/8/2007, 3:48 am EST

I’ve been fortunate enough to see ‘The Boss’ four times in my home country of England. However, I’ve lived in Johannesburg South Africa for the past 10 years and am desperate for him and the band to play here. Has anyone got any ideas as to how we can get them to South Africa?

willie the janitor | 9/7/2007, 9:27 pm EST

Didn’t he write a song about TV?… something like “68 channels and nothing on”? Could this be the RADIO version of the same song? at some point one has to take responsibility for the content (or lack there-of) in one’s own life.
psychologically speaking - that is.
But as for politics: god bless him for standing up for what he believes - and questioning status quo - it takes guts for an entertainer to cross that line. Noblese Oblige.

BSFAN | 9/7/2007, 7:32 pm EST

I think many will be suprised by the new release. People who wrote off the new single will have to give credit to the remainder of the CD. Those who love the single will be blown away completely, this is indeed the full package that can only be produced by “The Boss”.

The 11 tracks that follow Radio Nowhere are completely different. Kinda a hybrid of Greetings, River and Rising. Good writing, wall of sound type recording, Definitely E Street heavy sounding.

Oct 2nd is a long way off, the music is out there, go find it and soak it up! Buy the disc when it comes out, buy a concert ticket hell, even buy a t-shirt and have a blast! Enjoy!

jam | 9/7/2007, 6:50 pm EST

I hope Bruce stays out of the political realm. I feel that has really hurt him. There is a link to Obama’s web site on Amazon.com on the Magic CD web page. Get serious. Both parties suck, stick to the music.

MISSION MAN | 9/7/2007, 6:29 pm EST

OLDBRUCE: SPRINGSTEEN’S WORK STANDS ON ITS OWN AS LEGENDARY AND HE DEFINATELY DOES NOT NEED THE FANS TO MERIT THE GREATNESS OF HIS MUSIC. CALL ME CRAZY BUT WHEN CAMPISI SAY HE CAN’T WRITE AND HE CAN’T SING THAT IS JUST ABSURD.HE CAN SAY ANYTHING HE WANTS EVEN IF IT MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL. I ALSO HAVE MY OPINION AND I BELIEVE THAT BRUCE WRITES WHAT IS PERTINENT IN HIS LIFE NOW AS WELL AS THE TIMES WE LIVE IN NOW, NOT JUST 20 YEARS AGO. HE MOVES FORWARD AND RECREATES HIMSELF,UNLIKE WHAT MOST MUSICIANS HIS AGE SEEM TO BE DOING.HIS MUSIC IS FOR HIM AND HIS FANS AND HE DOES NOT SELL OUT LIKE MOST OTHERS DO. I AM ALSO HAPPY TO SEE YOU KNOW THE LYRICS TO A LOT OF HIS SONGS.ENJOY THE MUSIC AND RIGHT BACK AT YOU.

oldBruce | 9/7/2007, 10:02 am EST

MISSION MAN: so now you resort to name calling on Walter and Campisi and the rest to those whom you disagree with? They have a right to their opinion. Walter never said Bruce was not a great songwriter. He simply made a point that Bruce may have lost
his hunger of late. I agree with that. However, I thought ‘The Rising’ was excellent.
‘Radio Nowhere’ may have solid guitar and drums, but the words are simplistic and borrow from his famous concert line, “Is there anyone alive out there?” There may be other songs on ‘Magic’ that will stand out. Time will tell.
The point is that you and a few other (definitely not all) so called Bruce fans need to stop marking every little thing Bruce does as legendary. Yes he will go down in history as a legend and a great songwriter, but not because of your childlike efforts. Maybe you should learn something from your “cherished” song ‘Reno’ from Devils & Dust and take it up the you know what once in awhile, and give others the right to their First Amendment.

MISSION MAN | 9/6/2007, 9:50 pm EST

HEY CAMPISI,YOUR A MORON.ENJOY WHATEVER IT IS YOU DO.BRUCE WRITES MUSIC WITH SOUL AND HEART AND SINGS THE SAME WAY.

MISSION MAN | 9/6/2007, 9:44 pm EST

WALTER, I HOPE YOU ENJOY YOUR NEXT TOM WAITS CONCERT,WHENEVER THAT IS.BRUCE IS DIVERSE IN HIS MUSIC AND I FOR ONE ENJOY THE DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS HE TAKES US WITH HIS MUSIC.HE DOESN’T BECOME MUNDANE AND PUT OUT THE SAME TYPE OF ALBUM EVERY SINGLE TIME.GRANTED, SOME ARE BETTER THAN OTHERS BUT EACH IS UNIQUE IN ITS OWN RIGHT. IF YOU DON’T ENJOY THE NEW MUSIC THEN DON’T LISTEN.

Walter's | 9/6/2007, 12:41 pm EST

Sorry, I posted twice. Still, I wanted to add:

Let’s hope Springsteen doesn’t do anymore Jug Band albums…I mean, Pete S. albums. Oh Bruce, where is the rock man?

Walter | 9/6/2007, 12:33 pm EST

Springsteen had me spellbound when I first heard Born to Run on the radio in 1975 at 17 yrs of age. When I’d listen to the Born to Run album over and over, my brother thought it was several different albums by Springsteen, because every song was soooo good.

Darkness was different but still one of the best albums I every heard. Also loved Greetings from and Wild and the Innocense.

Springsteen slammed into the ’80s with The River and even though I read negative reviews and heard people that said they were fans complain about Nebraska, I think that may still be one of my favorite albums.

Even though Born in the US was pop and Tunnel of Love wasn’t his best, Those albums were better than anyone else was doing (except maybe Tom Waits).

The ’90s have come and the Emperor has no clothes. It all started with him releasing two albums at the same time…I bought them both…one was ok the other … well let’s leave it at that.

Then Springsteen did what he claimed in 1981 he would never do; released a greatest hits …Whaaa???

Then the Ghost of Tom Joads was (save the title song and Jonestown) was almost unlistenable. Yes, I know the risng is about 911…so what, I liked Further on up the Road and You’re Missing…and that’s it.

Dust and Devils…more like Busted Devil. And now I’ve heard Radio Nowhere…I…I…Bruce, what the hell are you doing??? You’re becoming a caricature of youself man.

I’ve been to 10 concerts. The first in 1975 and the last in 2000. And since he stopped doing his little talks between songs, the concerts have gone down hill. I know you all want to say how great his concerts are - and I’m sure they are better than most - but he has gone so down hill that I’m just waiting for the chance to see Tom Waits again; now that’s a real concert.

Bruce, there was a time that I didn’t have to hear one song on your album to buy it and now I need to hear the album first. I haven’t bought your album since you disappointed me with Tom Joad (although I’ve listened to them all since) and I doubt I’ll buy Magic…because I doubt that it is Magic anymore. You were hungry once, but now you’re not. Wish you could bring back the Magic from the ’70s…now, that would be Magic.

Sierraborn 260 | 9/6/2007, 12:36 am EST

Saw Springsteen at the LA Coliseum in 1985. The full moon was rising over the walls of the Coliseum at one point- it was unbelievable. Really really bitchin’ stuff. Great show, great vibe, great experience. Word was, two days prior, he played until 4 in the morning at Candelstick park/3com park or whatever-
Those on here who “don’t think he’s that great a songwriter” etc; listen to the people you DO think are great songwriters: do you respect their opinion? Great! because they all think he’s awesome at it…. and so do I. I still get choked up about “you’re still missing”, and the rising (”on my back’s a sixty pound stone, on my shoulder’s a half-mile a’ line”= the nozzle and the hose to go fight the WTC fire on 9/11/01; anyone who can bring out that imagery is gifted, plus that he had the cojones to do it, and do it right- spending hours with the victims’ families and not cheapen the project with a few “kill the bastards” hooks. I hope I hope I hope I hope I can see him this time around. I have NO DOUBT it will be WELL WORTH THE WAIT!!!

tove-norway | 9/4/2007, 1:25 pm EST

Hello again. Don`t care what some of you might think- Bruce is the BOSS! So what if this last song isn`t all that “deep” or packed with serious, political stuff. It sure is entertaining and Bruce has lots of songs that have a deeper meaning and send a message-most of his songs do!! Lets enjoy the guitars and pounding drums and have fun!

oldBruce | 9/4/2007, 12:57 pm EST

Again, why do many of you think the following is such a great song?

I think you have dropped your standards just a little too much.

Let’s examine the not so amazing depth of these lyrics:

“Radio Nowhere” Lyrics
by Bruce Springsteen

i was trying to find the road home
but all i heard was the voice of a drone
out sat on the satellite
crushing the last life america dies

this is radio nowhere
is there anybody alive out there
this is radio nowhere
is there anybody alive out there

i was spinning on a big time
just another lost number in a file
dancin down a dark road
it’s just searching for a world to fool

this is radio nowhere
is there anybody alive out there
this is radio nowhere
is there anybody alive out there
is there anybody alive out there
i just wanna hear some rhythym
i just wanna hear some rhythym
i just wanna hear some rhythym
i just wanna hear some rhythym

i want girls and guitars
i want pounding big drums
i wanna million voices to hear the tunes

this is radio nowhere
is there anybody alive out there
this is radio nowhere
is there anybody alive out there
is there anybody alive out there
do it

-sax solo-

i was driving through the misty rain
it’s just a searching for a mystery dream
romping through the wild blue
turn on the radio came dancin’ with you

this is radio nowhere
is there anybody alive out there
this is radio nowhere
is there anybody alive out there
is there anybody alive out there
i just wanna hear some rhythym
i just wanna feel some rhythym
i just wanna hear your rhythym
i just wanna feel your rhythym
i just wanna hear that rhythym
i just wanna hear that rhythym
i just wanna hear that rhythym

Yeah, real good here. Maybe this is a result of the reported $100 million deal Bruce signed with Sony BMG. So he needs to crank them out regardless of whether they are any good or not. Doesn’t anyone else see this?

New album to look forward to getting to know is great news, as theres a lot of commercial shit available at the moment - the but tour details of the uk leg is just not good enough. I have only seen him in concert once on the Rising tour, in a small dilapidated Crystal Palace “Bowl” England. Of all the stadiums available at the time why chose that pile of shit. This tour hes again choosen a smaller venue, a state of the art one admittedly but only 20,000+ =
He has a huge fan base here so why not play a larger arena WHY NOT MILLENIUM STADIUM, WALES 70,000 easy - sorry but one small gig on this tour is not enough Bruce.

Radio Nowhere is a song that goes nowhere. Shallow lyrics, simple chord changes and nothing more to offer.

Bruce can do better..take any album he wrote in the 1970’s, early 80’s as proof.

‘Radio Nowhere’ is ok.

Not as good as everyone on this site making it out to be..

His vocals are suppressed a little making it hard to understand among the solid guitar sound.

Bruce keeps using a line from his own shows, “Is there anyone alive out there?”

Hopefully something else is better further on down the CD..
