When High School Musical and Hairspray star Zac Efron posed for the cover of the current issue of Rolling Stone he joined a long lineage of rockers, actors and pop stars who were profiled in the past at the heights of their young fame. Check out a retrospective of some of the heartthrobs to grace the magazine’s front page, from a nearly nude John Travolta and a shirtless Keanu Reeves to Leonardo DiCaprio, Justin Timberlake, Ashton Kutcher, Donny Osmond and more.

«Yo» speaks the truth. Effron on the cover is disgusting, nothing less. Please don’t ever again let your magazine sink that low in bubble-gum pop gossip.

I disagree with a lot of RS’ cover choices, and I definitely disagree with the decision to put Zav Effron on the cover. He’s not deserving of their cover.

That being said, where are Liam and Noel Gallagher in that cover gallery??

looks like rolling stone is trying to justify putting him on the cover.
but p.s. rolling stone, it didnt work.

seems like this blog post is an excuse for the current issue’s cover by citing precedent.

As much as I was horrified to see Zac Effron on the cover of RS, I realized the kid was part of the bes selling album of last year. RS is about music (mostly), right? Sadly, this is a reflection of the current state of music.

Death to POP

There’s no excuse for putting Zac on the cover.

No comparison! DiCaprio made the Basketball Diaries by this time!

Pop music has always been cyclical, possessing both good and bad periods. Obviously, we’re going through a bad period right now,and have been for quite some time.I really don’t care who is on the cover of Rolling Stone.I think there are more urgent matters, like ending the war in Iraq. The Zak Effron’s of this world will come and go, and they have been coming and going for quite some time. The record companies wouldn”t have it any other way.
