Van Halen Reunion Announcement: Full Coverage on RollingStone.com Today

At 2:00 PM EST today, David Lee Roth, Alex and Eddie Van Halen and Eddie’s son Wolfgang — the current Van Halen lineup — will gather at the Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles for a press conference to officially announce their upcoming 50-date reunion tour. Rolling Stone will have a full report — including photos and video straight from the scene — later this afternoon.

Last week Rolling Stone confirmed news of the reunion, which was originally supposed to take place earlier this year, but was postponed just before Eddie Van Halen checked into rehab. In February, when Rolling Stone learned of the band’s first tour with their original frontman in twenty-three years, David Lee Roth told us, “The chemistry is combustible … Everybody’s at the top of their game … My voice is arguably better than it was when I left the band back when. I love what I do, perhaps for some different reasons now than I did, more so than I did. It’s a privilege to do what I do for a living.”

bayliss | 8/13/2007, 10:55 am EST

Dave don’t be a jackass, or wear Spandex. Focus on singing not running your pie hole 7/24.
Dont mess this up! this is your last big paycheck of your life.

Erik E Erik | 8/13/2007, 11:03 am EST

I keep waiting to see where Gary Cherone’s name is in this “reunion”. Some reunion! Dave L. Roth, whoever the hell that is, better learn those songs that Cherone nailed on VHIII, or I am not gonna be there!

Sponge Bob | 8/13/2007, 11:04 am EST

I wonder if they’ll re-release their back catalogue, the sound on the current CDs is quite bad

Liz | 8/13/2007, 11:10 am EST

Finally! but I’ll believe it when I see it…this band is teasing me!! but do I come back for more? HELL YEAH! hopefully they won’t have to wheel Eddie out on a trolley cuz he got drunk tho…

my space dotcom/goddamnidiot | 8/13/2007, 11:12 am EST

tbone | 8/13/2007, 11:34 am EST

Reunion tours like this one suck for the same reason that open coffins at funerals suck. Can’t we just remember the band/deceased in his or her prime without having to gaze upon what they have become?

custardpie40 | 8/13/2007, 11:40 am EST

and dave…dont try to hard..we only care about you hitting the notes..dont have to act 21 anymore, just jam and enjoy thats what its all about..keep that jack daniels bottle backstage…

boo boo | 8/13/2007, 11:46 am EST

VH reunion? about as appealing as smelling my own fart!!!

Mule | 8/13/2007, 11:49 am EST

It amazes me how many people even CARE that Michael Anthony is not with ‘em. Michael Anthony is to Van Halen what Zeppo was to the Marx Brothers for Pete’s sake! Now with Wolfgang hitting the low notes, it’s REALLY apropo to be called “Van Halen”, doncha think?

Zombie | 8/13/2007, 11:54 am EST

Can it truthfully be said that David Lee Roth fronts a rock band “for a living?”

Wouldn’t it be more accurate for him to say “It’s a privilege to do what I do on a part-time basis, subsidized by talk radio appearances and stints as a NYC paramedic.”

T-Bone | 8/13/2007, 12:03 pm EST

Van Halen may very well be the worst band to ever be formed. They suck terribly. Everytime I hear their music I want to shoot a puppy.

Russ Spencer | 8/13/2007, 12:04 pm EST

How can it be a reunion without Mike? Ed, you’ve messed up again!!!

Ass Wipe | 8/13/2007, 12:04 pm EST

*****faaarrrt*****….. Aahhhhh, that’s what I think of the VH Reunion tour.

Jo Mama | 8/13/2007, 12:05 pm EST

David Lee Roth is the Sh!t. I’d love to see him kick Axel’s azz.

Anonymous | 8/13/2007, 12:05 pm EST

I might have to go to this show!!!!!!!

Master of Vomit | 8/13/2007, 12:07 pm EST

I agree with Joe Mama. I would like to see David Lee Roth and Axl Rose, two has-been losers, face off against each other in a steel cage death match. I’d rather see that than a VH reunion concert.

DLR | 8/13/2007, 12:08 pm EST

Yeah, Axel is a twat. I’d kick his azz, do his girl, then bring Democracy to China. ‘Cause I can.

anus face | 8/13/2007, 12:14 pm EST

Creepshow | 8/13/2007, 12:18 pm EST

Im not happy about Michael Anthony not being there. But its too early to say. Eddie has a history of chnging his mind. We have heard of a reunion before with Dave that never Happened. I’ll not hold my breath.

rockinRay | 8/13/2007, 12:24 pm EST

greatest frontman ever
greatest guitar player

pure magic folks
get fired up

Jimmy Geox | 8/13/2007, 12:37 pm EST

Without Michael it’s not a reunion. Wolfgang could play guitar as well if Ed wants him there. OF course I’ll be there.

FuckYou | 8/13/2007, 12:38 pm EST

DLR is the man!!! Best frontman of all time. Long live VANHALEN !!

But why the fuck is Mike not on the tour…

Aaron D. | 8/13/2007, 12:39 pm EST

The only VH reunion I’d be interested in would be one with Michael Anthony. Roth is overrated.

GOD | 8/13/2007, 12:39 pm EST

The King is back

JLB | 8/13/2007, 12:43 pm EST

Lame that Michael isn’t there, even more so because its for no good reason. But with Roth on stage and Eddie up there with him, it’ll be a must see. 3/4th of Van Halen is better than almost anything out there, and its better than anything with Sammy “Why Do I Exist” Haggar.

SATAN | 8/13/2007, 12:43 pm EST

Van Halen reunion tour?? See you in hell my friends!

Sammy R. Hagar | 8/13/2007, 12:47 pm EST

I’m waaay better than David Loser Roth. Jack Daniels SUCKS!!!! Try my Tequila!!!!

Bookwel | 8/13/2007, 12:49 pm EST

David Lee, and Van Halen stink so bad, it’s like they shit themselves, sat in it for a couple weeks, then shit themselves again. Fuck all you Van Halen loving twats.

Big Bouncy B( . )( . )bies | 8/13/2007, 12:49 pm EST

All right! I can’t wait to see those old farts prance around on stage pretending to be their former selves again and have them charge a fortune for tickets to hear songs we couldn’t care less about. Cool! Can’t wait!

Sammy | 8/13/2007, 12:58 pm EST

I’d love some b( . ) ( . )bies

Knuckle Bonezz!!! | 8/13/2007, 1:00 pm EST

All you HATER’s and dicks can kiss my fuck’n ass bitches. The ROTHBAND is about to roll baby. The HEAVEY WEIGHT CHAMP of all LIVING ROCK STARS is about to take center stage. All eye’s are on DIAMOND DAVE, and the VAN’s. Count down to the press conference is in 1 hr, and counting. I would just like to say CONGRAGULTAIONS DIAMOND DAVE, and real VAN HALEN fans everywhere. IT’s ON BABY, CHEERS AND KUDOS TO THE ROTHBAND!!!!!

theory101 | 8/13/2007, 1:03 pm EST

it seems like a lot of you are putting down the reunion tour calling them old farts, What about the new young farts nowadays that have no idea how to a musicians let alone a rock star. For the haters out there try focusing that on getting laid and you mite find yourself spending a lot less time on the computer.

Charlie Brown | 8/13/2007, 1:06 pm EST

Sammy RULES…DLR is alright, but reminds me of that creepy uncle that disappeared for 15 years then comes back all crazy touring with the carnival. And yes seth fall out boy does suck.

can’t wait to go- doesn’t matter how old you are-they still sound the same- have alot of memories to go with their voices-the whole 80’s experience will never be back- but we can pretend for a couple of hours

The Cradle will Rock | 8/13/2007, 1:23 pm EST

I love the Zeppo comparison to Michael Anthony. He has been the luckiest man in Rock n Roll, and he should of done whatever he needed not to piss off anyone who’s made his life what it is so far. Now he’s on the outside looking in at the most exciting reunion in awhile. Can’t wait for 11 am west coast time.

Bookwel | 8/13/2007, 1:24 pm EST

Rocky touches little boys! Yo Adrien, the 80’s ruled, much easier to touch little boys!

kcv | 8/13/2007, 1:24 pm EST

THE WHO tour w/ only half the original band and they were killer live, and pete and roger are in their 60’s….so I am gonna give it a chance….though it’s been nearly a decade since their last studio lp they are long overdue!

Crop Duster | 8/13/2007, 1:26 pm EST

Unfortunately the backing vocals are going to be handle by a taped Michael Anthony(or whoever), pre recorded backing vocals for the tour, just hideous….Roth can’t cut it vocally in the studio anymore, never mind live. I’m a big fan, but don’t have high hopes for this. disappointed M.Anthony is not on board as well. That’s crappy….check out recent Roth concerts on Youtube, he’s like a used car saleman out there now, & he was once the king of C rock.

First off, not a full reunion. Could whatever monstrous ego-thumping stop so that the one other original member could be let in this charade?
Second, I love that all this enthusiasm is banked on David Lee Roth who from what I have or haven’t seen has hardly made a sneeze on the music scene in the past 20 years.
I’d be scared to hire Roth for a children’s birthday party, let alone a 50-city tour.

Me Wise Me | 8/13/2007, 2:41 pm EST

That’s okay – Dave doesn’t want you to use keyboards anyway.

Too much potential for a hit song…..

VHkid | 8/13/2007, 2:46 pm EST

At least they have enough class to give an up and coming band some exposure instead of someone like Whitesnake…must be Wolfgang’s influence with Sixth Root opening the first leg of the tour

Pork Fried Rice | 8/13/2007, 2:48 pm EST

I just heard some of the venues where VH will be playing at. It doesn’t really sound so impressive. Here’s a list so far:

Bronx Zoo – Bronx, NY
Hooters Restaurant – New York, NY
Six Flags Great Adventure – Jackson, NJ
Joe’s Bar & Grill – Memphis, TN
Disney World – Orlando, FL
McDonald’s – Houston, TX
Su King Chinese Restaurant – Phoenix, AZ
The L.A. Aquarium – Los Angeles, CA

Damn, I kinda feel sorry for these guys as to how desperate for cash they are.

marnr67 | 8/13/2007, 2:54 pm EST

Mac18 | 8/13/2007, 3:01 pm EST

there are a few venues from the 2004 tour where the EVH can apologize for his performance last time around… maybe venue security can give him a field sobriety….

music sounds cool…but what is the connection?

Oscar | 8/13/2007, 3:08 pm EST

Sammy Hagar with VH is not VH. He made them suck dick. All the songs with him were cheesy crap. This may be crap but even if it is pretty bad at least it will be better than Van Hagar.

where's mikey | 8/13/2007, 3:10 pm EST

It would be hysterical to see an audience full of these t-shirts?

Donut City | 8/13/2007, 3:12 pm EST

I must agree w/Artie’s Dead. Just grow up & get Mike Anthony back on board. So what if he’s friends with Sammy & sold hot sauce on the last tour. How did Eddie become so sour over the years? All the singers have LSD, maybe its time to look in the mirror. do it for the fans. MA might not be super talented, but he added that great VH Harmony, that rumor has it, will be piped in on this tour. That is weak.

Me Wise Me | 8/13/2007, 3:21 pm EST

Hey Oscar…please tell us then, why the “great” DLR would leave Van Halen in the first place? E-G-O, perhaps?
All Sammy did was come in and do a fantastic job while David Lee Roth floundered.

EXAMPLES:

1) Had a failed movie and failed movie star career

2)Had a less than stellar solo career

2)Got pinched buying a dime bag of garf-weed in Central Park

3) Failed as a radio show host

4) Failed as a paramedic

That ass-clown should be sooooo grateful that this new VH tour will put some much needed cash in his spandex pockets.
Maybe Sammy can give him some voice lessons….and lend him some hair.

ozzmancometh | 8/13/2007, 4:06 pm EST

I wanted to add a comment on MA. It is not that they did not ask him, they did.. now you see what his answer was. This will be interesting, hell I live in Charlotte, should I stay or Should I go. 1st show..

ozzmancometh | 8/13/2007, 4:15 pm EST

To finish off the Quote MA had a few months back was “I’m to old to join the circus”.

Liz G. | 8/13/2007, 4:46 pm EST

Everytime I hear Wolfgang’s name mentioned I want to cry and then puke. Did you read in the press conference that David Lee Roth said Wolfie picked all of the songs the band will play?? the more they mention Wolfgangs name the more I’m wondering if I want to go. Shuddup already with the Wolfgang word. geesh

Davis | 8/13/2007, 6:58 pm EST

just heard.. can’t wait!! No cryin over mikey, no sense bitchin about it. he’s in another band now…Anyway YEAH CAN”T WAIT TO SEE THIS INCARNATION OF VAN HALEN W/ DIAMOND DAVE,and CAN”T WAIT AND SEE THE KID JAM!! PHILLY HERE WE COME!

SammyBookwel | 8/14/2007, 7:35 am EST

Eddie touches little boys, including Wolfgang. He has been going to rehab for it though.

If you want to see a real band check out Sammy Hagar & the Wabos with Mike Anthony. Now that is Rock.
