Oh god, just because all you guys want to see is girls in skimpy bikinis, or their bras, or any other revealing clothing! Just give it up. They’re putting someone on the magazine who’s becoming big, rather than just some one hit wonder who needs the cover to get their career back on track!

I do agree that it is quite a change for a cover. However through the interview, Efron seems to be presentable. And despite many peoples personal preferences, he is what is selling right now. For me, i find him to be entertaining enough.

Maybe I’m completely misguided but isn’t the audience for this guy and high school musical somwhere under the age of fourteen? Is not Rolling Stones target audience a bit older than that?

I hate the argument over who “deserves” the cover of Rolling Stone like its the fucking Nobel Prize. It is the cover of a magazine, a magazine whose quality is declining. I don’t care who is on the cover nearly as much as what is covered inside it.

And I have no interest in this guy, at this point he has done nothing that makes me want to read about what influences him or how he got where he is. Kidz Bop and the Wow compilations top the chart as well but I don’t want to read about them.

Rolling Stone doesn’t need to try to be Pitchfork, but it also shouldn’t try to Us Weekly.

By the way, I didn’t read the interview, I didn’t watch the video and I don’t care if he lip syncs. I just simply do not think this is where Rolling Stone should be putting its efforts. Let a Disney magazine or Nickelodeon cover him.

I love all the people who are complaining about this. As if anyone who’s on the cover of Rolling Stone is making relevant music anyway. Instead of making preconceived notions about some guy you all know nothing about, maybe some of you should open your minds. This is the next generation. No one is forcing you to read his article anyway. Go find something else to complain about.

I’ve never seen HSM but in his defense, Hairspray was seriously good. I read the article and he seems like a decent guy trying to get away from the HSM stuff and build his career; and I’ve seen him guest-starring in really good shows like CSI. I don’t know why people are so violently against this kid. If you read the article you’ll see why he won over Rolling Stone, Leno, the Hairspray producers, etc — seems to be a disciplined and smart person who I bet will be one of Hollywood’s biggest stars.

Get over yourselves… Zac Efron rocks for his generation. He has great appeal to girls and gays everywhere. Its about time we had someone more on the wholesome, good-looking side rather than some burned out rocker trying to get their careers back on track.

everyone lip-syncs when they are actually taping the set number. singers and actresses. they pre-record the songs in the studios and they play it back for them on set! can you actually expect them all to do that intense dancing and jumping around and sing perfectly? psh.

anyways yes, in high school musical 1 it wasn’t ALL his voice it was mixed sometimes with drew steely but that is because they wanted a TENOR voice for the role and he is a BARATONE. they have now made new songs to fit his range and it’s all him.

It seems that no matter who appears on the cover, there are always some who want to cancel their subscriptions. I think Zac just added some credibility by appearing on the cover. It’s certainly better than having any of the overexposed(in more ways than one) foursome of Twitney, Paris, Nicole, and Lindsay on the cover.

You know, he’s not my favorite, but I think hating someone might be better reserved for who actually did something bad…like killed people or hurt children…if you don’t care for his stuff (asd I admit I don’t, don’t listen or watch. ok,first of all,he is a talented actor.
if anyone went and saw hairspray you would know that.
second,he CAN sing. If you actually knew any information about him,you would know that it wasn’t his real voice in the first HSM because his actual voice was too low. Also,if once again,you saw hairspray,you would hear his REAL voice,which is great.
Third,i think it’s nice to have a teenage movie star who isn’t going in and out of rehab. Zac has a good image,and that’s not a BAD thing.
And finally, he has potential to be an A-lister actor or musician if he wanted to.

There’s nothing wrong with Efron, it’s just heartbreaking to see him on the cover of a very respectable and classic magazine like RS… It’s kind of like John Norris of MTV fame, he’s a great reporter and interviewer, but he keeps trying to hide his age by dying hit hair and wearing “younger” clothes. I’m not saying that RS is trying to hide their age, but they are starting to forget the people who loved them when they were a magazine about getting stories about groundbreaking, and trend setting artists… It’s really, really sad to see this.

I don’t get why people are fighting over the fact that he should be on the cover or not. I mean the reason RS put Zac on the cover is because Zac is whats popular now and they know alot of people want to read about him, and he is also very talented. People who hate him or HSM shouldn’t waste their time talking bad about him but instead use their time writing about something they do like. Well I think hes on the cover because he hits a wider audience now because of Hairspray. Yeah hes still got a teeny bopper folliowing (take my 10 year old sister for example) but hes gotten the attention of older people too I think. I look at it like this: Hes almost 20 years old and doesn’t drink, smoke, party at clubs, or do drugs. Hes been in the public eye a lot more and handles it gracfully and has respect for others and that is what attracts the older audience. And besides what teeny bopper magazine would have that on the cover?

I believe the guy has huge star potential (and not just for now) – my money is on seeing him for many years to come, doing versatile things just like our friend John Travolta (who was criticized in a similar way for Grease).

RS is smart to cover him early.

For those complaining that he should be in BOP or Tiger Beat(which he is…), you can NOT compare him to the freaking Sprouse twins or Mylie Cyrus! He has talent and a future and I think RS sees it – and THAT is why he’s on the cover. And yeah – he is hot.

Ok, this guy’s on the cover, you gotta sell some mags, I get it. But does he need to be on the rollingstone.com front-left picture since friday? Has it been since thursday? Seems like an eternity.

Those who look up to him and are “in love” with him are exactly what is making this kid’s career excel. From buying magazines with articles and photos on him, paying to watch his movies, creating fan sites and looking at his pictures, to going to his promotional appearances is what’s making him filthy rich. And same to those who call him a nobody, complaining and criticizing him all the time. You guys stir up a huge mess with those who love him and are obsessed with this guy who doesn’t know or even care to kow who his fans are. Sure he’ll wave and grin at you with his pearly whites, but do you think he’ll care afterwards? What celebrity doesn’t love the adoring fans and attention. Your attention to his every detail, whether it’s going ga ga over his highlights and perfect skin (thanks to the massive amounts of make up he uses) or bashing him for his inability to sing (he quite reminds me of a male Britney Spears, when she still ’sang’ and wasn’t in this psycho phase she’s in) and his acting, is helping him! It’s not helping you. Who cares who this guy is.

Does it really matter whether or not he’s a good or bad actor/singer. You should all stop obsessing over him, go out, and plan on how you’re going to succeed in your own life. I’m more than sure he’s making more money than any of you (excluding those with a wealthy parents). Stop making him richer and more wealthy! Remember that there are thousands of other people out there who hate and love him, but what good is it doing for them. Maybe being a fan will let you meet him one day. Then what? After that on moment in your life you go back to your same old “boring” lifestyle. What a DISGRACE Rolling Stone magazine has become in the past couple years!! >:( Zac Efron?!?!? Have the editors’ brains turned into marshmallows??? I thought Rolling Stone was a ROCK AND ROLL magazine aimed at an audience who appreciates ROCK bands; whether they be The Beatles, Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, U2, The Rolling Stones, and Clapton or Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, The Smashing Pumpkins, and Stone Temple Pilots (or even modern stuff like The White Stripes and Wolfmother). I don’t recall Zac Efron fitting ANY of these categories (not even rock categories I haven’t mentioned yet like post-punk or indie). It’s enough to make me want to request “Rebel L”, “Born to Add”, and “Couldn’t Get No Cooperation” to my local classic rock station. As brilliant as these parodies are, they’re aimed (or at least were aimed) at more of a kiddie audience so it wouldn’t fit with the playlist of a classic rock station. At least the aforementioned “Sesame Street” rock parodies have appeal to the adults watching with their kids. What kind of adult appeal does Zac Efron have? NONE!! His only appeal is to girls age 11 to 17, which IMHO is NOT the Rolling Stone audience.

Here are just a few of the other ways that Rolling Stone has gone downhill; in your Top 100 “Immortal” Artists countdown, Eminem was there and R.E.M. was MISSING!! >:[ Since when is Eminem BETTER than R.E.M.?!?!? R.E.M. launched the musical revolution that has become alternative rock and made it more accessible to the public than The Velvet Underground before them (nothing against the Velvets – they’re an awesome band!!) Eminem hasn’t done ANYTHING besides act like a jerk and rant about what makes him angry.

And one more thing, I’m a guy and I DON’T like seeing a lot of the women you’ve put on your covers, regardless of whether or not they’re wearing all their clothes. Instead of having these sordid magazine covers with Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, and Nicole Richie, why don’t you have WORTHY, TALENTED women on your covers like Joanna Newsom, Jenny Lewis, Feist, and Cat Power? It’d be much better, I think.

P.S., “Hairspray” (both versions, actually) were GREAT movies!!! I just don’t think Rolling Stone magazine is where Efron belongs and it is TRULY sad to see this magazine take a decline in the past 3 or 4 years.

i think Zac seems like a true, down-to-earth person, which is really refreshing compared to the other teen stars you hear about in magazines. I loved High School Musical , 1 and 2, and Hairspray was exceptional as well.

I think he is really going places, and i loved his cover on Rolling Stones. You can’t hate on him because he might not be fully covered, thats showbiz and it’s not like he chose what he was going to wear himself.

Plus, he is amazingly georgous. Watching him on the big screen is a treat for everyone. Keep ‘em coming Zac!
