While Lollapalooza was packed with controversial and legendary performances, Rock Daily captured some of the fest’s more candid, unexpected moments too. Check out this footage of Patti Smith rocking “Because the Night” (and snapping some photos of dogs backstage), plus shots of Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy taking in his son’s band, the Blisters (Spencer Tweedy is the one tearing through the drum solo). Check back tomorrow for footage from Iggy and the Stooges, Regina Spektor, My Morning Jacket, Snow Patrol and Ben Harper.

Jesus that woman is ugly, I mean beyond the point where you can say “focus on the person, not the appearance” and into the realm of “Jesus H. Christ what the HELL happened to her face that would do THAT!?!?!?!?!?

Although “Twelve” is probably on the bottom of the list of my favorite Patti discs (I do like it though), she’s on FIRE on this tour…although she’s always been great, she’s doing some amazing shows right now. Catch her if you can

Patti Smith is deserved of her legendary status. A vital voice that still commands attention and respect even from the jaded and disillusioned. Cheers to your success Patti!
