Ghostface Killah will be making his big-screen acting debut in the upcoming super-hero flick Iron Man, which stars Robert Downey Jr., Terrence Howard and Gwyneth Paltrow, and is directed by Jon Favreau. Rumor has it that the rapper will play a Sheikh living in Dubai in the film, which is set to hit theaters next summer. It’s about time somebody signed up Ghost for the film — not long ago he complained to an interviewer that nobody from the movie had gotten in touch with him, despite the fact that his nickname (Iron Man a.k.a. Tony Stark) comes straight from the comic book it’s based on.

Even though Andre 3000 is hard at work recording a solo album and readying a new OutKast record, he is still finding time to nurture his budding acting career. The Idlewild and Four Brothers star is set to appear in two films: Battle in Seattle, a drama about the World Trade Organization protests in 1999 costarring Woody Harrelson, Charlize Theron and Ray Liotta due out in December, and Semi-Pro, a basketball comedy starring Will Ferrell and Woody Harrelson. “I am playing a 1970s basketball star showoff on the team, and we are trying to make it to the NBA. It’s hilarious,” says Andre about the film, which hits theaters in February. He says he’s also still considering making a Sammy Davis Jr. biopic, even though one is already in the works starring Hairspray’s Elijah Kelley.
Ja Rule tells Rolling Stone that he will be starring in a new film based on the life of, well, himself. The MC says he’ll co-produce the yet-untitled film along with Queen Latifah.

Dixie Chicks’ Natalie Maines has signed on to star in the independent film Stealing Cars, which begins shooting in September. Maines will play a prison nurse, a role that director Michael Skolnik thought she would be perfect for after seeing the Chicks documentary Shut Up and Sing. This is the singer’s first try at acting, but she doesn’t have to look far for a coach, as she is married to Heros star Adrian Pasdar. Maybe she will play a prison guard who can fly …

Why would anyone see a biopic about JaRule. He was cool 7 years ago and did nothing to change the landscape of music. Who gives a damn? 50 Cent couldn’t pull off a biopic during the height of his popularity. What makes this two bit mc think he can pull one off when he hasn’t had a hit since W’s first stint in the white house?

Humina humina | 8/7/2007, 12:35 pm EST

I wouldn’t walk across the street to see any of those talent-less losers in a movie. I mean, come on..

Ghost Mutt | 8/7/2007, 12:45 pm EST

I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to be another person more than I want to be Ghostface (except maybe Bruce Campbell)

Ja Rule changed the industry to its fudged-up state. Without Ja there would be no 50 Cent (sadly their antics, no matter how negative, did help maintain hip-hop as a highly popular genre in the decade), probobly no market for alternative-reactionist movements such as Kanye, a ressurected Common Sense, Lupe. Indirectly, Ja did keep East Coast hip-hop and the general hip-hop culture alive for another decade.

Hands | 8/8/2007, 1:21 pm EST

Industry? Hip-hop culture? Are you insane?

umm so | 8/8/2007, 6:39 pm EST

Hands | 8/9/2007, 10:37 am EST

Rap, its “performers”, “fans” and ghetto-life wannabes=lamer.

Isaiah | 8/10/2007, 1:44 pm EST

Why is Ja Rule making a movie about himself? First of all, he can’t act even if he plays himself. Second, You don’t make a biography film if you are a worthless musician who has a handfull of fans. What’s next?, a movie about vanilla ice? And props to Ghostface about the Iron Man part. Ghostface is one of the best.
