MTV Video Music Awards Nominations Are In …

8/7/07, 1:20 pm EST

MTV is unveiling the nominees for the 2007 Video Music Awards right now on TV at a painfully slow rate. Here’s where they stand so far…

Monster Single: Avril Lavigne’s “Girlfriend,” Chris Daughtry’s “Home,” Fall Out Boy’s “Thnks Fr Th Mmrs,” Lil Mama’s “Lip Gloss,” T-Pain’s “Buy You A Drank,” Timbaland’s “The Way I Are,” Mims’ “This Is Why I’m Hot,” Plain White T’s “Hey There Delilah,” Rihanna’s “Umbrella” and Shop Boyz’ “Party Like A Rock Star”

Female Artist of the Year: Amy Winehouse, Beyoncé, Fergie, Nelly Furtado, Rihanna

Best New Artist: Amy Winehouse, Carrie Underwood, Gym Class Heroes, Lily Allen, Peter Bjorn and John

Best Choreography: Beyoncé and Shakira’s “Beautiful Liar,” Chris Brown’s “Wall to Wall,” Ciara’s “Like a Boy,” Eve’s “Tambourine”
Best Group: Fall Out Boy, Linkin Park, Gym Class Heroes, Maroon 5, The White Stripes

(Pete Wentz is now providing us with Pete’s Suite Tour, a guided journey through the Palms Resort in Vegas where many VMA attendees will be staying; Shaquille O’Neal has arrived and is playing basketball ball with him. Also: Lily Allen is there. Guess she got over those visa issues. But will she perform at the big show? “I can’t possibly reveal that to you at this moment,” she says.)
Video of the Year: Amy Winehouse’s “Rehab,” Beyoncé’s “Irreplaceable,” Justice’s “Dance,” Justin Timberlake’s “What Goes Around … / … Comes Around,” Kanye West’s “Stronger,” Rihanna feat. Jay-Z’s “Umbrella”

(Is this the year of Kanye? “I come to win, I don’t come to lose,” he responds. “You never know how the voting system works … I think my video is the best.” There’s a shocker.)

Best Editing: Beyoncé and Shakira’s “Beautiful Liar,” Gnarls Barkley’s “Smiley Faces,” Justin Timberlake’s “What Goes Around … / Comes Around,” Kanye West’s “Stronger,” Linkin Park’s “What I’ve Done”

Earth-Shattering Collaboration: Akon and Eminem’s “Smack That,” Beyoncé and Shakira’s “Beautiful Liar,” Justin Timberlake and Timbaland’s “SexyBack,” Gwen Stefani and Akon’s “The Sweet Escape,” U2 and Green Day’s “The Saints Are Coming”

Male Artist of the Year (presented by a comically bored looking Lily Allen): Akon, Justin Timberlake, Kanye West, Robin Thicke, T.I.

Best Director: Beyoncé and Sharkira’s “Beautiful Liar,” Christina Aguilera’s “Candyman,” Justin Timberlake’s “What Goes Around … / … Comes Around,” Kanye West’s “Stronger,” Linkin Park’s “What I’ve Done,” Rihanna’s “Umbrella”

Quadruple Threat of the Year: Beyoncé, Bono, Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake, Kanye West

VMA’s were plain awful
America needs to stop supporting hip hop rap and the anything disney-esque
25 years ago we did not have such crap
MTV should be ashamed-but they’re not
I prefer the European enthusiasm they just get it….we don’t…UK Britt awards seem like a spectacular while the VMA’s audience is comprised of music industry and very few fans up front and close(aside from the highly choreographed fake fans rushing to the stage) The sound quality was less than spectacular….why go on-too many faults to mention-GRADE F

THE CONCERNED ONE | 9/11/2007, 10:55 am EST

The fact that Britney Spears opened the VMAs that should have given us a clue. MTV needs some serious reconstruction and some employees of the channel need to be fired period. How does MTV go from a musical cultural institution to such a JOKE? I am worried about the kind of RnB and hip hop they are promoting. Most rap artists promoted by MTV are such a disgrace to the black communities all I see is the degradation of women, promotion of gangsterism, and the reinforcement of that phoney Hollywood culture in videos. What’s up with MTV promoting dim-witted and spurious artists like Beyonce, Rihanna, Fergie, Britney, Justine Timberlake etc? On a serious note what positive contribution are these artists making in the industry, what images are they perpetuating about themselves generally? These new artists are just manufactured dolls and puppets of the entertainment corporations by selling their souls to make money with no talent. The last time MTV recognised a black artist with real talent was in 1999 (Lauryn Hill). If MTV can start with an artist like Lauryn Hill and end up with the vapid Rihanna getting the best video of the year, this shows that MTV has tremendously relapsed and it is in a state of deterioration. This clearly showcase the current horrendous state of RnB and hip HiaIt saddens me see MTV promoting female black artists like Beyonce and Rihanna because shaking booty and taking off clothes does not showcase real talent. This channel seriously needs Jesus. AMEN.

Craig | 9/10/2007, 5:14 am EST

Oh yea, just to add to my previous comment…we actually got to watch MUSICIANS that could play instruments! There would actually be people who could play guitar, bass, and drums…and a lead singer. Does anyone remember the days when you actually had to be a musician to get the honor of sell-out crouds and MTV play? Now it seems that all you have to be is a friend or former cell mate of an already known “performer”, and know how to grunt, bob, sway your arms, and spread your fingers. Now that I think about it, maybe MTV is better off not showing videos!

Craig | 9/10/2007, 4:57 am EST

I was one of the viewers of MTV back in the 80’s and watched through the mid 90’s. I kept it on ALL of the time…even if I wasn’t watching it, I was listening to it while doing other things (it kinda doubled as radio). The videos were more creative then. Nowadays, I watch the old videos on YouTube. I thought MTV geared itself for todays youth, but our kids (13 and 17) even agree that the music and videos back then were ALOT better, and that today’s MTV is “whack”. No one in the family even watches MTV anymore, especially when they started rehashing one reality show after another.

I’m sick of the same crap on MTV, all commercials are the same, rap beat, trying to be funny and cute, no wonder guys like Curt Cobain killed himself, its all the same. When did MTV start getting kick backs from BET?? Why can’t we get a video only station, like how MTV used to be??

J-MACK | 9/9/2007, 11:40 pm EST

This shit sucks! They should have “Who Sucks Ass” Category!

AC | 9/9/2007, 11:17 pm EST

Even the R&R Hall of Fame awards show isn’t what it used to be. But honestly, most of the new rock bands don’t deserve to win an award anyway, so it may as well go to one of the many lame pop/rap/R&B ‘artists’ of the day.

Melina | 9/9/2007, 7:49 pm EST

what the hell happened to best rock video category? mtv really does suck…they dont play music…they play stupid shows about girls being bitches and hoes and the guys are just as bad. all the shows are the same

and what the fuck? there are too much rap on their too….i dont mind rap but i do get sick of listening to the same stuff over and over again….they shouls make a time where you can see all the old videos that used to be played like “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and “Basketcase”

nhale_xhale16 | 9/9/2007, 1:02 pm EST

I remember back when mtv not only played music, but they actually had a variety rather than rap or some other branch thereof.

Dr. Cranfill | 9/7/2007, 7:06 pm EST

LeoHn | 8/15/2007, 1:02 am EST

Hey, always the same bore thing… and by the way MTV should call now “BRSTV” Boring Real Shows TV, they’re no longer programming music anymore!.

The same it’s happening on MTV-LA

i’m just bored of this channel they need a full house renovation…

ahh don’t expect too much of the night show because it will be just the same boring thing!

mikting | 8/10/2007, 11:54 pm EST

Your right kids MTV Videos Awards ain’t what they use to be, they suck. Take it from an original viewer of MTV abck in the day it was cool, now?? we won’t won’t go there

Julio From Venezuela!! | 8/10/2007, 6:38 pm EST

I have no Idea!! but what happened with the rest of the categories?!!Best Rock, Best Pop, best Rap Video and Best Hip -´Hop Video and Best Dance Video? The VMA’s are worst and worst every single year!! Bye!! Linkin Park Rules!

Chris | 8/10/2007, 10:59 am EST

Mtv’s award show seems like it never stops getting worse and worse. This years will be an even bigger flop. I can feel the pain already.

kal | 8/9/2007, 9:36 pm EST

I thought last year’s awards show was bad enough, with all the voting and random, shitty winners, replacing the Breakthrough vid award with “Ringtone of the Year” (which i dont think has anythin to do with music vids), and RHCP not winning anything…

but know, MTV hits a new low…most of these categories are not worthy of a moonman. they should just stick to trandition. this is no longer a music video award show. I just hope they get a good host at least…diddy was horrible in 2005 and last year, jack black deserved better..i think he knew he was hosting a crap show as soon as he opened the show

charliemapleton(aka CM Funk) | 8/9/2007, 5:18 pm EST

(laughs)

The truth is Hands, despite their different taste in different intoxicants, they do have this certain elegance in their looks and style, best of all Lily Allen. I mean, who doesn’t like a girl with nevrve popping humor, mischievous antics, a Doublemint smile, and B-girl attitude?

Think about it.

Timmy | 8/9/2007, 1:54 pm EST

did you notice that a lot of awards have been replaced with stuff like Quadruple Threat of the Year and Monster Single of the Year. It does bother me to think that MTV used to be about the music…think back to 1994 and now…it is horrible.

Hands | 8/9/2007, 10:11 am EST

Lily Allen, Amy Whinehouse…beautiful? There’s noa ccounting for taste, of course, but are you high?

Scott | 8/9/2007, 9:58 am EST

There’s actually a lot of good, innovative work being done in the music video format. I’ve watched a lot of great videos on Rhapsody. Unfortunately, I’m certain these videos will never be played on MTV, which is too pre-occupied with showcasing young America at its dumbest and most immature.

Cheesecrop | 8/9/2007, 7:07 am EST

There will be innovative videos to come but I don’t believe they will be shown on mtv. Maybe not YouTube but another place down the line will start showing videos that are intelligent and probably inexpensive to make as well. The net holds the key.

Michelle Badillo | 8/9/2007, 2:31 am EST

Oh my.

CARRIEROCKS | 8/8/2007, 11:52 pm EST

who the hell is lily allen anyway? never heard of her. All I know of amy winehouse is that horrid rehab song- which is ironic since she just got out of rehab herself, so I heard. She is totally over-rated. It amazes me what people think is good music! I suppose since winehouse sings about rehab- people think she is somehow “soulful.” LOL what a joke. Carrie Underwood definetly deserves to win over her. At least she can sing!

weknowwhenmusicsucks | 8/8/2007, 10:53 pm EST

Does anyone know who we can contact at MTV (I hate to even type those letters,) to protest their awful selection of nominees? These videos are a reflection of the people they’re trying to reach. They only promote music that appeals to their demographic, which apparently is mostly under the age of 14, or in prison. Who else would want to watch this trashy, titillating garbage? If parents would restrict the viewing habits of children who watch worthless crap, we wouldn’t have to put up with this. (If we can’t petition them, at least we should boycott their sleazy awards show.)

I read that all their networks are losing money anyway. Let’s hope that eventually they just die a quiet (and painful!) death.

MTV=Many Tragic Videos
MTV=Mostly Trashy Viewing
MTV=More Teenage Vileness

You guys can come up with some of your own!

RIP MTV and soon!

party til you puke | 8/8/2007, 8:50 pm EST

fuse and Vh1 classic are the only channels that play music regularly, but fuse is mostly emo and classic is mostly 80s. they should start a petition to get MtV to play music again.

Jeff | 8/8/2007, 5:46 pm EST

Exactly when do they play music videos on MTV? It’s wack melodrama for teenage girls. When ringtones outsell albums…….

charliemapleton(aka CM Funk) | 8/8/2007, 5:26 pm EST

When you have two of the most brash, beautiful, British chanteuses currently-namely Lily Allen and Amy Winehouse-you know there’s a combination of trouble and double trouble.

But before I decide at the last minute who should win-specifically the night of the VMA’s-i’ll stick with Lily. She has been the femme fatale of music and media so far this year, no doubt.

Larry King Repeat | 8/8/2007, 4:35 pm EST

BucketHead should perform with Paul McCartney whil Larry King gets beat down by Kanye West wearing a shawl

Chuck | 8/8/2007, 4:07 pm EST

I haven’t watched this show for a LOOONG time. I am completely surprised they had the balls to nominate Justice “D.A.N.C.E.”, the only “Best Video” nom that has a great artist behind the great video.

kenny | 8/8/2007, 3:46 pm EST

hey scott, there has always been shitty music that people like, we just dont have someone to redeem our generation

Swingline | 8/8/2007, 2:21 pm EST

Too bad all of those nominees aren’t floating around in a large toilet. That amount of crap would probably warrant a double-flusher.

farouk | 8/8/2007, 2:02 pm EST

it’s a f***ing revco world!

Hands | 8/8/2007, 1:18 pm EST

Wait a minute Scott. Thanks to MTV, we glamorized ghetto life and reduced women to whores. And you think pumping up this guy is a longshot? Anyone else tired of glamorizing these lowlife assholes?

Scott | 8/8/2007, 12:05 pm EST

I struggle to rationalize how this country can make a complete tool like Kanye West a star. Someone please drop a piano on this oafish, talent-free turd. Let’s not forget Akon, who actually shouted “Let’s hear it for global warming, y’all!” at the Live Earth concert. The mind boggles…

Scott | 8/8/2007, 12:01 pm EST

Whenever I see Justin Timberlake doing anything (performing, speaking in an interview, wearing stupid-looking hats[above]), the one word that always comes to mind is…”twerp”.

Scott | 8/8/2007, 11:59 am EST

Teenagers used to listen to Bob Dylan (60s), Bruce Springsteen (70s), the Replacements (80s), and Nirvana (90s). Now they listen to what…Justin Timberlake and Kanye West? Holy Christ, you’ve gotta be shitting me.

GOP Sex Scandal: Young Republican Prez (MSM Update)
by Yoss
Tue Aug 07, 2007 at 01:50:42 PM PDT

Original stories posted in various parts at Blue Indiana.

It seems that the newly elected leader of the Young Republican National Federation has been forced to step down amid allegations that he sexually assaulted another man after a Young Republicans party. Details are still emerging, but the accused man, Glenn Murphy, was a rising star in the Indiana GOP, and his resume includes the leadership of the Clark County Republicans — a relationship that no longer exists — and also a position within a consulting firm that has represented Republican politicians such as former Rep. Mike Sodrel. (Hat tip to Advance Indiana.)

Follow me below the fold for information about the allegations, and a look at the quick scrubbing of Murphy’s name from the Young Republican website.

Moe | 8/8/2007, 9:49 am EST

I can’t believe RS even mentions this bullshit! Other than White Stripes where the hell is the rock? This is the most boring, untalented group of so called artists!! What the hell is with Justin Timerlake, can someone please explain his popularity to me,I just don’t get it.

Fuck MTV. They were cool when the M stood for Music. Now it’s Marketing for 12 year old girls, just like RADIO. The days of true Icons & video pioneers that shook the world (Nirvana, RHCP, Pearl Jam, Madonna, U2, Guns N Roses, Duran Duran)are GONE. Now we have Hillary Duff and Akon. MTV is a joke.

lulu | 8/8/2007, 4:32 am EST

the only people who truly should be eligible for these awards are Amy Winehouse and The White Stripes. They are the only people whose music actually isnt stupid! Im not even going to watch the MTV awards because the nominees–with the exception of Amy, Jack and Meg–truly dont deserve the awards. Rihanna’s music is stupid and annoying, and Plain White T’s Gym Class Heroes only had 1 hit single.
If anyone on this planet still has a brain, they wouldnt listen to Rihannas music. People please get your heads out of the toilets.

Ceejaye | 8/8/2007, 3:16 am EST

All the nominations above are just the reason why I dont watch music videos, they tend to suck, the art is dead, it’s all about who’s hotter, booty shaking and the bling shit which really dont matter!

KUNTA | 8/8/2007, 2:54 am EST

SOMEBODY TELL ME HOW, WHILE THEY WERE GIVING ALL THESE CRAPY ASS VIDOES NODS THEY MISSED MCR’S WELCOME TO THE BLACK PARADE WHICH WAS ONE OF THE BEST VIDEOS OF THE YEAR! BUT THEY CAN GIVE RIHANNA A NOD FOR A STUPID VIDEO WHERE ALL SHE DOES IS HUMP A FUCKING UMBRELLA AND DANCES UNDER SPARKS FOR 4 MINS. I BET SHE’LL WIN TOO.

kenny | 8/8/2007, 2:44 am EST

i think we’ve come to a point that comes every few years in music, where someone actually inovative comes to music. we are in the middle of total bullshit music, and we need someone like nirvana or the sex pistols

JD | 8/8/2007, 1:59 am EST

Whatever happened to nominating videos based on its art rather than on who’s hot? I’m sure there are tons of innovative videos that weren’t even nominated.

Ari | 8/8/2007, 12:42 am EST

SAD!!!!!!!!!!! I am happy about amy and lilly on there!!!!!!!!!!!! I am 16 and just don’t listen to this lame music. We need a really good UK indie band to be big here and it would be solved!!!

CARRIEROCKS | 8/7/2007, 11:52 pm EST

Very happy they included Carrie Underwood for best new artist even though she is country/pop. She is more along the lines of Shania anyway- not traditional country- so she crosses over nicely to pop and breathed a breath of fresh air into this year’s nominations. Seriously- how could they ignore Pink’s enormous success this year? Amy winehouse got WAY too many nominations for one dumb rehab song. pink was robbed!

Amanda | 8/7/2007, 11:30 pm EST

For all the people defending MTV, keep in mind that ratings for the VMAs have been taking a nose-dive for the last few years. It seems ironic that the network is handing out awards for videos that no one has ever seen on the actual network because they don’t play them (unless you’re watching at 3am when I do).

The Phantom | 8/7/2007, 11:21 pm EST

Justice should win, but if Crazy didn’t win last year, DANCE won’t win this year.

best are behind us | 8/7/2007, 9:18 pm EST

MTV where are you????? you’ve been lost for oh so long and i just don’t know that if you do come back like the old times that i would want you back.. Hey everyone i have a brillant idea for a network..ok its a channel devoted just to music..we play music videos, cover concerts, throw special concerts to be played on tv, cover artist news, keep up with whats relevant, do always fun music countdown lists like greatest bands all time, and by doing this i think we will have one heck of a network on our hands brining all things music to the living room tv…wow this is brilliant…i wonder why theres nothing like that now???

Cockroach | 8/7/2007, 9:18 pm EST

With the exception of Amy Winehouse, that list of nominees just goes to show just how pathetic today’s music scene really is. These nominees are nothing but top 10 artists according to Wal-Mart type outlets where corporate bigwigs dictate what music gets pushed down the throat of the masses and gets airplay and tv play with the flash of big bucks.

Fuck MTV, Fuck Wal-Mart, Fuck Corporate America, and Fuck Justin Timberlake.

Difference is, your parents were reacting to videos and concerts. Now, the comments regard former MTV boss McGrath’s stab at “cultural engineering.” It’s no longer music, but mainstreaming the grotesque.
Big difference between the idea of a musician’s artistic freedom and a network leader’s view of what is right for America.

Potpie Theater | 8/7/2007, 8:20 pm EST

Know what’s every bit as irrelevant as MTV?

Talking about the irrelevancy of MTV.

Some of these commenters’ insights sound exactly like my parents’ views of MTV… twenty years ago.

shven11 | 8/7/2007, 8:13 pm EST

well, i gotta agree with denial twist, the hip hop of today is the 80s hair metal of tomorrow……but stayin on topic, ya MTV sucks balls, they should change the name, nowadays its somewhat misleading. i only spotted a few worthy nominees; i think HN listed all of them…everybody else is only there becuz theyll make more money for MTV because lots of teens nowadays wouldnt kno good music from dogshit…

but its cool, because wat kind of artist can take themselves seriously if they find recieving MTV music awards to be rewarding?

well, until MTV stops playin daughtry and all that other shit that lacks any originality whatsoever, i got my stoner indie music, classic rock, and ol skool hip hop to listen to….

ROCK ON!

Hands | 8/7/2007, 8:00 pm EST

Remeber the 1992 VMAs?
They got Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Guns n Roses and U2.

fuck mtv, it isn’t even relevant anymore

Fuck MTV | 8/7/2007, 7:22 pm EST

Music television? They traded a cultural institution in for pointless voyurism and championing the celebrity of useless people.

denial twist | 8/7/2007, 7:00 pm EST

hip hop was killing itself about two years ago it just didnt know it yet. seriosuly draw parrells from late 80’s hair bands and hip hop artists of today..in the late 80’s all the hair bands sounded the same sang about the same stuff and pushed a tired slogan of drug sexs and rock in roll so then came grunge…now rap today…all sound the same sing about bitches cars and money and push the tired slogan of gangster life.

saad | 8/7/2007, 6:44 pm EST

i ain’t gonna bash mtv since well, it’s not a music cable channel, that is MHD…oh and yeah…nas is right…hip hop is dead…

Stephanie | 8/7/2007, 6:40 pm EST

I really can’t believe what I’m seeing. How did Kanye all of a sudden get a bunch of nominations when he only had 1 hit song? Is he going to throw a fit again because he didn’t win last year? This is ridiculous.

Most of these songs are all ringtones I just noticed. way to go MTV…Music in general wouldn’t be the same without you. Well at least the good music anyways.

HN | 8/7/2007, 6:36 pm EST

Lily Allen
U2 and Green Day
Kanye West
Justice
The White Stripes
Peter, Bjorn and John
Gnarls Barkley

the only semi-not horrifying nominees I found. But still lets break down THOSE artists whom I can fathom talking about without puking.

U2 and Green Day have in my opinion lost any of their influence. Bono needs to shut the hell up and Green Day is starting to become to pop-punky for my taste. Stick to your roots.

Same applies to Kanye West (in the shut the hell up aspect), and even in any respect, he’s had only had one good album (College Dropout) and odds are he’ll never top it.

I’m surprised they even know about Peter, Bjorn and John or Justice. Infact I’m sure Justice was only nominated so they can mention Kanye interrupting Justice at the Europe counterpart of the VMAs.

Danger Mouse is a genius so I respect Gnarls Barkley in that matter.

In conclusion, MTV has lost any influence it ever had and needs to stop its pop, pop/punk and MAJOR hip-hop bias.

???? | 8/7/2007, 6:35 pm EST

hey remember when MTV had some cool things going on…ahh those were the days….poor MTV has spent so long with its back turned to music that it hasnt noticed music has changed dramaticaly since 2000…. they still think boring uninventive rap like T.I’s crap filled albums and kanye wests conceted “im a genious look my music reflects it, please, someone look, give me something, any one??” is good.hey kanye i’ve heard your music its basicly jay z tupac and nas put together…rap sucks ass now a days…really the only bright spot on all them lists is the white stripes…poor poor mtv you know your lost in the music world when vh1 has more music cred then you..i believe you lost your way as soon as you dumped all your money into the nync and backstreet boys basket…nice knowing ya tho we did have good times

down below that mentioned sweeeet sixteen jingle… i think they pretty much summed up the discussion in this entire post rather well… just read it…

DAVID -
While I sort of agree with you, do us all a favor and pass 5th grade English before you decide to post again.

meh | 8/7/2007, 6:15 pm EST

mtv should just change its name to network for teenage girls….i dont even understand how a network that devotes a total of 2 hours a day to music can correctly judge it…kanye west best male artist nominee…really? I have yet to hear anything come out of his mouth that even sounds like good music….MTV should just hold a award show about scripted dating shows and spoiled littled brats birthdays because thats all the network is

Wallz | 8/7/2007, 6:05 pm EST

who caresssssss MTV is for 11 year olds.

MTV sucks

BMS | 8/7/2007, 6:01 pm EST

It’s good to know MTV still has a place for relevant rock music. Oh wait…nevermind.

Nick | 8/7/2007, 5:49 pm EST

MTV now caters to unintelligent, greedy, materialistic whores, so it’s no wonder no one cares.

Well besides the 12 - 16 year olds who watch the network. Seriously, has anyone ever seen the ‘Super Sweet Sixteen’ show?

The MTV generation can go fuck itself.

Scream | 8/7/2007, 5:25 pm EST

Will anybody actually watch this shit anyway? I dont think so. Who cares about MTV anymore? Seriously.

josh | 8/7/2007, 5:06 pm EST

remember the vmas on 9/9/99, when marilyn manson closed the show performing “beautiful people”? then, afterward, chris rock came out and said, “go to church. get your ass to church, or you’re going to hell.” that was cool. what happened?

Aries73 | 8/7/2007, 5:00 pm EST

I was hoping to see this item clear of cynical, self-absorbed music snobs.

Then again, I was hoping for $1 million to be in my mailbox. Oh well.

On topic, that list seems decent. One guess could well be as good as another.

Just posting to prove not all Gen X’ers are a bunch of brooders trying to out-jade each other

leo3375 | 8/7/2007, 4:59 pm EST

Wow. This year’s nominees suck!

Hey MTV! Just hand this show over to YouTube and rename it the YouTube Music Video Awards.

DAVID | 8/7/2007, 4:57 pm EST

wow, just wow.so much crapyer then last year.A m i da only one dat sees that the videos nominated for video of da year are ALL pop and rap.no expection.no emo, alternative, grundge, rck,me atal, only pop & rap.wow.so sick.i cant beluive it.

cliff | 8/7/2007, 4:56 pm EST

So now it’s all cutesy categories like on the Teen Choice awards. Awesome. Remember when MTV used to break new bands? I was at Lollapalooza this weekend. After just three days of music, I bet I could name more bands than anybody working at MTV.

Stuporfly | 8/7/2007, 4:53 pm EST

It seems like there’s a million new awards shows sponsored by a million different corporate entities with loose associations to the world of music. Those awards shows come and go, but we can always rely on MTV to be the cornerstone of completely inconsequential glitzy bullshit events.

J | 8/7/2007, 4:49 pm EST

I haven’t seen a single one of those videos. Wanna know why? Because MTV doesn’t play videos anymore. They need to get rid of this awards show because it only reminds people that MTV sucks now.

abandonedstation | 8/7/2007, 4:42 pm EST

awful awful awful list. Do teenagers actually listen to this music, or are these nominations just part of what the record companies pay for?

I’m listening to Radiohead’s ‘The Tourist’ to calm me down…

steve 2.0 | 8/7/2007, 4:36 pm EST

What is up with these categories? I agree MTV is no longer relevant. Its all re-runs of reality shows instead of music videos.

sweet sixteen! | 8/7/2007, 4:36 pm EST

just think of that jingle….

“SWEEEET SIXXTEEENNNN”

now envision the channel you used to watch in 1994, wipe those tears away and say goodbye one more time to MTV… the channel is dead to music, alive to teenREALITY…

you get what your demo is… farewell music television for the last time.

TankCat | 8/7/2007, 4:31 pm EST

MTV is dead. It was killed by the internet years ago. They had a good run, but like American Bandstand, their time has passed.

McSweaty-Balls | 8/7/2007, 4:29 pm EST

MTV Sucks Balls

Ben | 8/7/2007, 4:28 pm EST

Lame catagories. And no love for Kelly Clarkson’s “Never Again”? That was agood video!

suzanne1281 | 8/7/2007, 4:21 pm EST

I was watching the Talking Head’s film “Stop Making Sense” the other day and it brought me back to remembering when MTV was cool. And played vidoes. And was about music, not “reality” shows about spoiled teenagers who live in California or superficial, promiscuous slackers in the “Real World.”

suzanne1281 | 8/7/2007, 4:19 pm EST

I was watching the Talking Head’s film “Stop Making Sense” the other day and it brought me back to remembering when MTV was cool. Sigh.

jcjohnson63 | 8/7/2007, 4:14 pm EST

why have video awards when they don’t show videos.

AJ | 8/7/2007, 4:06 pm EST

Umbrella coulda been a great rock song…dammit Rihanna - Go Away EH EH EH EH EH EH EH EH EH EH EH Go Away EH EH EH EH EH EH EH EH

S | 8/7/2007, 3:56 pm EST

these video awards are going downhill each year i forget to watch them now. remember when the vmas were kinda cool? ahhh the late 90’s…

NYC Nate | 8/7/2007, 3:48 pm EST

What are they basing their nominations on…OK Magazine? Us Weekly? These lists are bullshit. Boring, vanilla…par for the MTV course, I guess.

JP | 8/7/2007, 3:25 pm EST

Are you sure Lily Allen wasn’t seriously bored when she named the nominations for best male artist? That is one dud selection of nominees.

MTV have lost their revelence a long time ago. Quite honestly, I don’t know if they play music videos anymore. When I see any music videos on MTV, it’s usually a short edited clip of a music video. When they start playing music videos more than airing reality shows of self-involved people, then I start caring what they think are the best music videos.

Matt | 8/7/2007, 3:18 pm EST

Wow, after looking at that list I realized that I don’t care about any of those artists (save maybe for Kanye West). As I’m only in my mid twenties, I didn’t think I was that removed from MTV.

Charlie Brown | 8/7/2007, 3:10 pm EST

Umbrella is the worst song ever made.

Dio | 8/7/2007, 3:10 pm EST

Dio HATES MTV! Dio demands they play more of Dio’s music! Dio cannot lie though, Dio enjoys watching Next and Parent Control BUT OTHERWISE HATES MTV!

Pendulous | 8/7/2007, 3:10 pm EST

I didn’t know Hip Hop was STILL around…

Oh that’s right, MTV still thinks it is. Thank you MTV for telling me what music is “in”.

Leo | 8/7/2007, 3:09 pm EST

The Gwen Steafni song is “The Sweet Escape”, not “The Great Escape”. The catergories suck this year too. What the hell is a quadruple threat consist of? No love for My Chemical Romnce? The show’s a bust, i’m not even going to watch this year.

Joe | 8/7/2007, 2:06 pm EST

UNDER MY UMBRELLA ella ella
hey hey hey

BRAD | 8/7/2007, 1:25 pm EST

Huh, the Pet Shop Boys are back, but I didn’t realize they nicknamed themselves the Shop Boyz.

I’m just keeding.
