Rumors Say Paul McCartney Will Join Brian Wilson Onstage in London

Rumors that Paul McCartney will join Brian Wilson onstage in London next month have started to spread after a source reportedly told U.K. paper The Daily Express of the upcoming duet. “Paul and Brian are good mates and as Brian is going to be performing from Pepper, the word is Paul will join him onstage one night for a couple of songs,” the insider claims.

Though the pair were chart rivals forty years ago, if rumor becomes reality McCartney will join Wilson at one of his six scheduled nights at the Royal Festival Hall in September — as the source indicates, to guest on a track from Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, an album the Beatles have long said was greatly influenced by the Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds.

McCartney and Wilson have paired up in the past, for a duet on Wilson’s 2004 album Gettin’ In Over My Head and at a 2002 fundraiser for Open Hearts, Clear Minds, a charity started by McCartney’s soon-to-be ex-wife Heather Mills. McCartney also introduced Wilson when the Beach Boy was inducted into the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame in 2007, saying, “So thank you, sir, for everything you’ve done for me, for making me cry, for having that ‘thing’ you can do with your music. You just put those notes and those harmonies together, stick a couple of words over the top of it and you’ve got me. Any day.”

Is this the best RS can come up with?

Kyle | 8/6/2007, 10:30 am EST

That’d be great to see live.

SATAN | 8/6/2007, 10:31 am EST

The Macca Wilson project, sounds cool. They should brain storm and write an album together, that would be a the supergroup of all supergroups

SATAN | 8/6/2007, 10:34 am EST

they should form the world’s greatest supergroup:
Paul- switch to guitar and vocals
Brian – bass and vocals
David Gilmore – lead guitar and backing vocals
John Stamos – drums and backing vocals… J/K
how about Phil Collins

Lizzy Lizz | 8/6/2007, 11:05 am EST

Jesus Christ. Will he be performing with them as well?

Brien Comerford | 8/6/2007, 11:15 am EST

Macca and Wilson are the two greatest masters of melodic melodies. They are great friends. Jeff Beck should also appear to perform his stunning guitar version of “A Day In The Life”.

cota | 8/6/2007, 11:18 am EST

hey Sammy,,,there are other music news sources out there,,,.

These moldy oldies may not be our idea of a good time,,,,but,,,,these two musicians together have more to boast about than most pop stars can ever wish for….

Forty years from now,,who do you think will be remembered as one of todays finest?? Will younger generations think much of them??

Stuporfly | 8/6/2007, 11:39 am EST

That would be fantastic. Wish I could be there to see it if it actually comes off.

Yarbles | 8/6/2007, 11:39 am EST

Macca and Brian Wilson have made music for the ages. What’ve your favorite bands done? Gotten played on TRL and turned into a ringtone?

DetroitRJR3RD | 8/6/2007, 12:07 pm EST

If Carson Daly Was Hosting This Event “Sammy” Would Be First In Line

I, Moron | 8/6/2007, 12:24 pm EST

Has anything been done in rock and roll since The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Stones, The Who, Zep and The Kinks? Unoriginal playing, unoriginal writing, uninspired singing. Sammy would have you believe they amount to nothing. Go back to your rap, little boy.

Sammy | 8/6/2007, 12:30 pm EST

Hey, I love the Beatles and the Beach Boys, all I said was McCartney and Wilson are dildos, which is true. Mac got scammed by a one legged golddigger, and Wilson is a loon with ugly ass daughters.

Sammy | 8/6/2007, 12:43 pm EST

McCartney also lost half the Beatles catalog to a certain singer who molests little boys. Way to go douche bag. What the new music do you listen to? Try out some TOOL, OCEANSIZE, ELBOW, TRAIL OF DEAD, LOW, MELLOWDRONE to name a few. Sounds like you folks listen to HOT 101.

cota | 8/6/2007, 12:45 pm EST

Sammy has redeemed his self,,let’s move on,,,,,,

cota | 8/6/2007, 12:54 pm EST

hey “I, Moron”,,,,all mentioned bands are (were) great in their time,,,,there is plenty of great current music out there now if you are willing to give it a try!! Often we get comfortable with what we know,,,its fun to find something new!!

booyakasha | 8/6/2007, 1:09 pm EST

Who cares… After 9/11, Paul showed me everything I needed to see when he practically performed every single song he ever wrote, not to mention his colabo with Jay-Z at the Grammys & Live 8
This news is small imo

yah yah yah | 8/6/2007, 1:21 pm EST

Like most Beatles fans, I think John will always be remembered as the driving force and relevance behind the group.

Ian St. Ian | 8/6/2007, 1:22 pm EST

Hey any enemy of Yoko is a friend of mine. She ruined The Plastic Ono band.

auramac | 8/6/2007, 1:48 pm EST

Reading some of these posts reaffirms my preference for “All You Need is Love,” as idealistic as that might sound- to “All You Need is Hate, and Nastiness- to be Edgy.” Grow up, kids… “Wise up,” as Aimee Mann would say.

Sammy | 8/6/2007, 1:51 pm EST

I stand corrected.

Sammy | 8/6/2007, 2:27 pm EST

Curt, didn’t you read what auramac wrote? That was the most touching thing I’ve ever read! I forgive you! If you’ve got hate in your heart, let it out!

Sammy | 8/6/2007, 3:14 pm EST

Thank you all for an exciting day of down time at work. It has been fun! -SaMbOoKwEl

Otak Parsigian | 8/6/2007, 5:06 pm EST

It’d be great to see McCartney and Brian Wilson do a few numbers together. You listen to the music they created between the two of them and you realize how difficult it will be for any contemporary bands/songwriters to match either of them. They are the Beethoven and Mozart of their time period.

Hemet S. | 8/6/2007, 5:09 pm EST

Otak is spot on. The work of the Beach Boys and the Beatles is timeless, resonant and classic. Hats off to McCartney and Wilson. Two great songwriters.

Hemet S. | 8/6/2007, 5:48 pm EST

Tammy, would much rather hear your thoughts on the topic at hand — mccartney/wilson. Hope you write again!

Dear Penny | 8/7/2007, 11:32 pm EST

A nickel for your thoughts?

Martha M. Ydear | 8/8/2007, 3:37 am EST

Thank you for giving me life, Paul. You and John and George and Ringo formed the most perfect music making quartet in human history. End of story.

Michelle M. Abelle | 8/8/2007, 3:43 am EST

These are musicians that go together well. I love them, I love them, I love them. That’s all I have to say.

Penny Lane | 8/8/2007, 3:45 am EST

McCartney’s music is in my ears and in my eyes. Him playing with Brian Wilson would be a wonderful surprise.

Polly Thenepam | 8/8/2007, 3:52 am EST

Well you should see Macca and Brian. Get a dose of them in jackboots and kilt
They’re killer-diller when they’re dressed to the hilt. Least that’s my opinion.

Anna | 8/8/2007, 3:54 am EST

You know you cannot ask me, Paul and Brian. To see you for free now. You know I love you more than you love me, so I will pay your fee. And got to them.

Jude Hay | 8/8/2007, 3:57 am EST

Hey! Paul and Brian! That won’t be bad. I’m sure they’ll take some of their sad songs and somehow together, they’ll make them better. That’s my guess anyway. The minute you let the idea of them playing together sink deep, under your skin, that’s the moment it’ll feel…for lack of a better word…better.

Prudence D. Ear | 8/8/2007, 4:01 am EST

Paul and Macca should definitely come out to play. Why not? It’s summer. The sun is up, the sky is blue…it’s a perfect time. Paul, you’re beautiful, and Brian…so are you.

Semilina Pilchard | 8/8/2007, 4:03 am EST

I’d kill to see this show. Macca and Wilson? Wow. I’d run a marathon, swim the oceans blue…Hell, I’d climb the Eiffel tower for a pair of tickets.

Doris Day | 8/8/2007, 4:04 am EST

I want to go see this show just so afterwards I can ask Paul why John kept mentioning my name in song and spoken word on the “Let it Be” album. Either way, it was an honor.

Sadie S. Exxie | 8/8/2007, 4:09 am EST

Brian Wilson, I must ask you…what have you done? You made a bit of a fool of yourself for a while there. And everyone else. But now you finally realize the world’s been waiting just for you. Glad Macca will be there to help you out on stage.

Rita M. Maide | 8/8/2007, 4:12 am EST

Paul and Brian together? Great. Brilliant. I heard about this while standing outside near a parking meter. And I caught a glimpse of this article mentioning the show, wrote it down in my little white book (my diary). Gonna definitely try to go…ahhhhh…ahhhh…ahhhhh.. .

Lucy S. Diamond | 8/8/2007, 4:14 am EST

What a great show! Wilson and McCartney. Picture yourself in a seat in a theater, with Macca in the wings and Wilson playing Smile. Suddenly Macca is there at the piano wearing like a kaleidoscopic T-shirt….wild. Should be great.

Father John MacKenzie | 8/8/2007, 4:18 am EST

I’ve always been a Beatles fan and a Beach Boys fan as well. So this show excites me. I’ve been a priest for a long time now and sometimes you get tired of preaching sermons no one ends up hearing, darning your socks when no one is around…it’s damn lonely. These are guys who preach to huge throngs of people. I want to be a part of that for once. Hell, these guys are bigger than Jesus.

Maxwell Edison | 8/9/2007, 7:28 pm EST

My friend Joan was quizzical about this pairing of two greats. She’s studying metaphysical science and feels this is a meta kind of event. My concern is who is going to do the drumming? Is it going to be Ringo? Or is it just going to be Bang, Bang…like a hammer falling down on a head kind of drumming style?

Chairman Mao | 8/9/2007, 7:33 pm EST

I think it’s going to be a great show. But look, if you go carrying pictures of Brian or Paul, doesn’t mean you’re going to make it with anyone anyhow. These are two guys who DID change the world with their message and music. But we ALL want to change the world. Regardless of your own feelings about this potential concert, don’t you know it’s going to be alright?

John Sinclaire | 8/9/2007, 7:35 pm EST

It ain’t fair, I won’t be there. I’m in jail at the moment for breathing air (a marijuana conviction). This freaking judge gave me ten days for two puffs essentially. But I’ve gotta, gotta, gotta, gotta, gotta, gotta, gotta get out on time to see Macca and Wilson. Sounds like a great show!

Angela | 8/9/2007, 7:37 pm EST

I feel your pain John Sinclaire. They put me in prison too. After they shot down my man. As far as I’m concerned I’m one of the million political prisoners in the world. I’d love to get to that show though. They give me a few moments of sunshine, they give me tea…but what I really want is a ticket to Wilson-McCartney.

Mr. M. Hamish Mustard | 8/9/2007, 7:49 pm EST

I would love to see Paul and Brian. Glad Brian’s in a better way these days. Heard he used to sleep in the park and shave in the dark just to try to save paper. Now McCartney IS known to sleep in a hole in the road after a night down the pub…but he’s a real cool man…I mean it, he’s a real cool man.

Mrs. Vanderbilt | 8/9/2007, 7:50 pm EST

Brian and Paul???!!! Together???!!!!! Ho, hey ho, what a great show!!!!

Mr. Wilson | 8/10/2007, 1:19 am EST

Mr. Heath and I will be attending. My advice for those who want to come, declare your intentions and to Albert Hall run…cause it’s great show…yeah, it’s a great show-ow…and they’re playing for no one…but you and me….

William Shears | 8/10/2007, 1:22 am EST

I was a Sargeant in the army, now retired
I know I will enjoy the show
As a Sargeant in the army now retired
I think I’ll just sit back and let the evening go…
should be good fun…

Dauber | 8/10/2007, 1:24 pm EST

Last week Jean Sievers, one of BW’s public relations people, says that the rumors are NOT true. Sorry to burst everyone’s bubble.

Magical Mystery Show | 8/11/2007, 1:05 am EST

Perhaps Dauber really means Doubter. Forget what Sievers says. This will be a magical mystery show like no other.

Eleanor Rigby | 8/12/2007, 2:11 pm EST

Paul McCartney, plays very nice and is sure where his friend Brian has been –used to live in a dream
So he’ll wait at the stage door, wearing a face that he knows the crowd will adore
Hear them now roar
As Mr. Paul McCartney walks out onto that stage
Mr. Paul McCartney, it’s here that you belong.

Pete Best | 8/12/2007, 2:15 pm EST

I love Brian’s work, Paul’s work of course I used to play on… I’m considering joining in on the night myself. If Richard (Ringo) wants to get up on a second kit, we’ll have the three living ex-Beatles up on stage together. Would be fun and a great way to show Brian our love.

Jenny Wren | 8/13/2007, 2:08 am EST

Like so many boys, Brian Wilson could sing
But a broken heart, took his song away

Like the other boys, Brian Wilson took wing
He could see the world, and its foolish ways

How, we, spend our days, casting, love aside
Losing, sight of life only because we felt outdone by “A Day in the Life” and the rest of the Sgt. Pepper’s album.

Miss Lizzy | 8/13/2007, 4:40 am EST

You make me dizzy, McCartney
when you rock and roll
You make me dizzy Brian Wilson
when you do the stroll
Come on you guys…I want to hear you rock and roll…so play together already!

HRMQ Elizabeth | 8/13/2007, 4:43 am EST

Paul McCartney is a pretty nice boy
and boy he’s got a lot to say
and Brian Wilson is a pretty nice guy
but he changes from day to day
Still I want to tell them that I love them a lot
and I’m dying to hear them both play
Paul and Brian are pretty nice guys
some day I’m gonna make them mine.

Mr. Kite | 8/13/2007, 4:45 am EST

For my benefit, I guess Paul and Brian are going to do a show tonight — a jamboree
My friends the Hendersons will all be there
they used to be with the Franques fair
which was quite a scene
Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing the show
and of course I’ll ride in on Henry the horse doing the waltz…

Pablo P. | 8/13/2007, 4:48 am EST

Drink to me, drink to my health
you know I can’t drink anymore
but tell me where Brian and Paul will soon play
and where a few tickets I can score…?

Mr. Bellamy | 8/13/2007, 3:54 pm EST

I like Brian up there on the stage with Paul
No one to tell them what to do
or interfere with their plans
They both have a great point of view
they help us all understand…

Paris Hilton | 8/15/2007, 11:17 am EST

Why don’t we do it in the road?
make Pet Sounds – obladi oblada
Gonna do it, gonna do it sweet banana
you’ve never been loved
Come Together

NIcole Richie | 8/15/2007, 1:40 pm EST

Imagine I’m in love with Paul
it’s easy cause it’s true
I’ve imagined I’m in love with Paul
many, many, many times before
It’s not like me to pretend
but I’ll get him I’ll get him in the end
Yes, I will, I’ll get him in the end, oh yeah, oh yeah
But there’s going to be a time, when Brian Wilson is on my mind
So Paul might as well resign himself to being one of two…oh yeah….
