Listen to Ryan Adams Talk About His Huge Catalog, Skateboarding

ryan adams

In the last year Ryan Adams has gone through a full-on transformation. He’s shunned his legendary appetite for drugs and alcohol, found himself a steady girlfriend, debuted a playful rap and hardcore metal side-career on his Web site, and made one of the most consistent records of his career. Rolling Stone Associate Editor Austin Scaggs sat down with the newly squeaky-clean Adams for the current issue of Rolling Stone, and we’ve collected a couple choice audio clips from their marathon conversation where Adams discusses everything from the real-life truth behind his lyrics to skateboarding.

As a listener to WXPN in Philly, I am well aware of how talented and prolific Ryan Adams is. For those of you who are unaware of his music, please give him a listen You will not be disappointed.

he painted his masterpiece with Love Is Hell. this last one doesn’t come close.

If you want to hear Ryan Adams at his best. Pick up the cd by his old band, Whiskeytown, titled “Stranger’s Almanac.” It is one of the greatest albums I have ever heard.

actually….all ryan’s records are worth having, half is genius and the other half is not so genius, except this crap easy tiger. and they should have tossed the studio goodnight rose, one of his best songs and i cant even listen to it. instead they should have released the henry rollins show performance. bottom line the production sucked on this record, except the bass has never sounded better. which doesnt make any sense.

could you stop bumping into the mic please? thanks, the management.

TENEHL | 8/9/2007, 11:37 pm EST

If you read the article, he is not bumping the mike. It is a skateboard he is fooling around with that is making all of the backround noise.

i recommend the album “cold roses” to everyone i get into ryan adams. this is a good way to start off a voyage with ryan because the cd makes you feel like your on drugs. the album is nostalgic of something like dreamy and storybook, i dont even know what, but i like whatever it is.

Stranger’s Almanac is really really good, but it wanders into adult contemporary a bit much for my taste. For my money the re-issued Faithless Street is the best Whiskeytown record. It’s the Replacements’ Let It Be for rednecks.

neaL | 8/28/2008, 6:47 pm EST

Ryan is the real deal. I put him up there with the best. He gets a bad rap w/ some folks in the press, but I’ve seen him perform 5+ times and met him even, and he was cool.

I think he just acts natural and sometimes you get a freaked out young dude who might be having a tough time.

I think Whiskeytown AND his solo stuff is all just great if you are a fan of the master folkists that have come b4 him.

He is one of them in my opinion

loverofRA | 9/11/2008, 11:29 pm EST

So in love…
Heartbreaker and Jacksonville City Nights are the way to go. I don’t like country, he don’t like country, but I LOVE his country.
love love love!
