What It Is: A super-slim (.27 inches) photo and MP3 player for non-iTunes tracks that comes in 2GB and 4GB models.
Who It’s For: iPod haters and online-music-service subscribers (it works with any music you might be “renting” off of Napster, Yahoo! Music Unlimited and Urge). Also, long-haul travelers, since it has a lengthy twenty-five hours of battery power on a single charge.
Why It’s Worthy: The K3 has quite possibly the sleekest onscreen interface we’ve ever seen — a blue-lit menu that morphs into an elegant equalizer and other tripped-out animations when you play music. The show on the 1.8-inch LCD screen is well complemented by the unit’s smooth, metallic body (in red, green or black). Take that, Apple!
Our Only Complaints: The touch-sensitive keys are a tad too sensitive. We found ourselves starting and stopping songs accidentally any time it was in our pocket (then we discovered the lock mode).
