After weeks of speculation about which publisher would score Keith Richards’ forthcoming autobiography, the deal is officially closed. Little, Brown and Company will publish Richards’ life story in 2010, and the guitarist is already apparently working on the memoir with James Fox, a writer and close friend. The publishing house paid a whopping $7.3 million for the book. So, how does Richards’ paycheck compare to other major non-fiction book deals?

I love the man, met him in Houston in 95, but how much do you think her remembers?

I love the man but how much can he remember?

I spent an entire day with the man during Easter Sunday with him. He’s so brilliant. People just don’t understand that. He married Patty Hansen, and I was good friends with her older sister, Beverly Ivaroni. I knocked on the door and Beverly’s husband Mario opened it and then closed it, and Keith was directly behind it so when the door closed, I was two feet away from Keith. I was just floored. As soon as I sat down on the couch, Keith just started talking to me and looking directly into my eyes and he never boke eye contact. I don’t even have best friends that are that attentive. He talked about football and how it didn’t compare to rugby in England because the Americans wore “armour” Then I replied, “yes but Americans use the helmets as weapons.” He said, “That’s true, I never looked at it that way.” He also had a brief case with bottles of Absolut in it. He drank an entire bottle in my presence; from what I could see, he didn’t seem to be the least bit drunk. I brought a cymbal from my drumkit which he signed “Keith Richards ‘96 Beat It” It was one of the greatest days of my life.

I’m extremely intrigued by the stories he actually does remember. I know there’s going to be some good ones. God that book is going to be long.

It will be interesting to compare Keef’s memories of the 60’s with those of Bill Wyman in Stone Alone (a volume 2 of which has been promised). Very interested in some insight into the songs and song writing as well as recording details.

extract:
I had my first joint at sixteen.
It all got a bit blurry from there on. Think I was in a band for a while”

Keith deserves more credit than he gets…..he hasn’t survived this long by being a bumbling idiot. There’s more than meets the eye here.

jamari frança | 8/2/2007, 12:15 pm EST

Do you really think Keef remembers anything?

Smedley Dooright | 8/2/2007, 1:36 pm EST

You guys are fool of crap. A Richard’s autobiography sounds like it will be full of stuff from a guy who was a rock star before people really knew what a rock star was.

keller95971 | 8/2/2007, 3:38 pm EST

He probably recalls a lot. I am close with someone who had similarly “wild” times. They can’t remember where the house keys are or why they just called me on the phone, but they do remember all the things that have occurred over the years.

anastasios | 8/2/2007, 5:25 pm EST

crazy as a fox
the man is all heart
a gentler smile you will not find
the man’s eyes remember more than you suggest

Keith only knows one language..the truth…read all about it

I heard Mick tried out the autobio bit, but became bored with it. That said, Keith is and has always been the more open, impulsive and wild of the two. I have no doubt that the book will be a blast and that a lot of flat-out crazy stuff will be revealed. Keith’s intellect shouldn’t be questioned. You don’t make the $$$ he has and survive as long in a young man’s game without some smarts.

rollmops | 8/3/2007, 10:01 am EST

Release date : 2010. It’s a long wait. What about having an audio version with keith reading the book? I like his voice, his laugh, his inflectins. Keith is the best story teller in rock and roll, nobody comes close to him.
Rock and roll keith, you are the best.

What a lot of people don’t relaize is that Keith was at least half (I think more) of the some of the best music ever produced. He’s no idiot
