“Our Hats Are Off to Devo”: Korn’s Jonathan Davis Responds to De-Evolution Dust-Up

When Devo’s Jerry Casale complained to Rock Daily about Korn borrowing his band’s “de-evolution” concept for a fake film trailer called Devolution: Nature’s U-Turn, the new-wave pioneer said he wouldn’t hold his breath for due credit. Well, we’re happy to report that Korn frontman Jonathan Davis has proven Casale wrong. “Korn never claimed to be the first to expose De-Evolution, our hats are off to Devo for that,” he said in a statement to Rolling Stone one day before his band is slated to perform a free show at New York’s South Street Seaport and hold court at a press conference at Times Square’s Armed Forces Recruiting Station. “They are pioneers for sure! However, we are glad to see that our efforts have them speaking up again! It’s good to have them back. They are needed in the fight!! In the meantime our researchers continue to uncover key evidence of De-Evolution at the highest levels (www.evolutiondevolution.com).”

Hey! My Baby said to me, “I feel so DEVO, I don’t know what to do!” Now watch us work it! I need more cowbell, baby!

savannah | 12/23/2007, 8:33 pm EST

I LOVE KORN 4 EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

techma | 10/3/2007, 10:40 pm EST

I loved Devo and I love Korn too! Jonathan Davis is amazingly intelligent, talented and leads the band in producing awesome music. I saw them again last night in Merrillville, IN and I put it at the top of my list of favorite concerts. I am 40 something and have seen the Rolling Stones in four decades, Aerosmith, David Bowie, Fleetwood Mac, Tina Turner, Devo, B52s, Frank Zappa, Blue Oyster Cult, Yes, …and on and on and I think Korn is right among those top artists. Give them a listen!!

Chotty | 9/10/2007, 9:00 pm EST

Put ANY old DeVo video/ film up against this KoRn Doc and you get two words: Shit_Sandwhich.

Deane | 8/26/2007, 9:17 pm EST

maybe if I posted in three times more people would believe? :/

Deane | 8/26/2007, 9:16 pm EST

C’mon guys anyone with real credibility know that DEVO are real musical pioneers, light years ahead of KoRn in all respects. Good on JD for giving them kudos, he always noted a major 80s influence

Hear-Hear, mongoloids all!
Ko(backwerdzz r)n fans slipping about on their own drool like damn glassy-eyed penguins.
Tear-stained pillows and shit-stained dreadlocks.
They need to snuff it like they know they act like they want to!
Jonathan Davis cannot sell suicide attempts anymore!
It has to be the real thing!

One chromosome too many! | 8/22/2007, 2:02 pm EST

Jonathan Davis should know DEVO, because KORN and their entire fan base are a bunch of mongoloids. We must repeat!

Dr.Stu! | 8/20/2007, 5:02 am EST

I am a huge devo fan, and not exactly a massive korn fan but Gerry casale needs to stop bein a little bitch, they should be proud that bands today are carrying on there (new)traditions and not look for there names to be dropped everytime some of their work is referenced, I’ve observed that Devo seem to be a little bitter about the respect they get today and it annoys me too that there not thought of in the sameway as Kraftwerk just because they had more humour in their MO, but they can’t expect to get handjobs everytime someone references one of there ideas, keep proud and humble Gerry.

Willy Ramone | 8/17/2007, 4:11 pm EST

It’s nice to see that the two camps reconciled. And I know Korn fans get a little defensive, but check out some Devo sometime…it’s some of the first f’ed up concepts and atonal mishmash that paved the way for bands like Korn.

chris | 8/13/2007, 2:45 am EST

DEVO and KoRn are quite possibly my two most favorite bands.

It’s great to see KoRN acknowledging them, I hope these bands keep touring for a long time to come.

Dont worry about it | 8/12/2007, 10:58 pm EST

people that diss korn can fuck off. they’ve been on the scene for fourteen years and they are still goin strong. devo can suck white ass

The Smart Patrol | 8/10/2007, 6:33 pm EST

The credit Devo deserves has already been taken away. Korn has lost every ounce of credibility that they had, which wasn’t much to begin with. For all the twits out there who say that DEVO can’t have rights to the term devolution, well, this is DEVO unfolding upon itself. What these simple minded Korn fans don’t realize is DEVO is much more than a band with a concept.DEVO was one of the first bands to create themselves upon a concept. The form followed the function. They didn’t arbitrarily pick the name DEVO, like KORN did. DEVO came from DEVOLUTION. So sorry Korn, go suck a fat one and keep making mindless shitty music for your 12 year old agro fans.

Mongo Lloyd | 8/4/2007, 12:36 pm EST

Hey Riley,
If you are going to point out spelling errors of others, as some measure of their intelligence… at least you could spell “proves” correctly. After all, it is only a 6-letter word. Oh…. and “hope” has no “r” in it either. If you are an example of the average Korn fan, well, enough said. No wonder Korn sucks. Their fan base appears to be devolving faster than most. They don’t have to strive too hard to please a bunch of retards. Wanna banana? Moron. You cannot comprehend DEVO’s potato. Don’t try to. You will just look even more stupid.

Boojiboy | 8/4/2007, 2:02 am EST

Good to see the spuds get a little credit, as they were the only ones with the foresight to see de-evolution coming, and for alerting all beautiful mutants who would listen.

DevoFrank | 8/4/2007, 12:41 am EST

KORN is DEVO

We Iz DEVO !!!

katfood | 8/2/2007, 8:10 pm EST

Yet another “modern” band that can’t come up with it’s own ideas. Lame.

general boy | 8/2/2007, 6:50 pm EST

I guess a lame band actually giving a legendary band some credit is a baby step forward. Outside of their lackluster songwriting, moronic lyrics, and uninspired playing/”singing”, Korn aren’t too horrible.

Mechamania | 8/1/2007, 12:50 pm EST

Thanks, Jonathan.

For the record, although Stones fans may not have liked DEVO’s cover of “Satisfaction,” Jagger said that it was his favorite version of the song.

I guess bands and their fans can disagree.

im the korn korn | 8/1/2007, 12:37 pm EST

man i love korn i swear to god de-evolution is so true especially with george bush and NO korn is not a part of de evolution!

riley | 8/1/2007, 11:07 am EST

hey hand of doom this is how you spell METALLICA. MORON. why are some of you still dissing korn they gave a nod to devo, prooves that devo fans are just as naive if not more naive than korn fans.

bel-biv | 8/1/2007, 8:31 am EST

Korn is a fuck. They would never have done this had they not seen the ((still yet to be matched or duplicated)) DE-vo catalog of videos that were made 30 years ago. If you watch that stuff today, it’s puts to shame most of what people do with pre CGI video editing.

relecric | 8/1/2007, 8:17 am EST

I see that Korn is now getting the same raised eyebrows and snide comments that DEVO got when they first unveiled the truth about de-evolution. I am happy that there are other bands that are finally getting the message that DE-evolution is real. we are all DE-VO!!!! do i sense a future collaboration?

Stevan | 8/1/2007, 7:55 am EST

yeah good job korn. the new korn album kicks major ass and i hopr that korn and devo get along now.

myspace.com/goddamnidiot | 7/31/2007, 2:48 pm EST

Good. Those dudes in Korn never seemed to be dickheads (remember that South Park episode?). I’m glad they gave props where props were due.

Hey female | 7/31/2007, 1:59 pm EST

Would u like to be friends with my Munky?

jungleland | 7/31/2007, 1:52 pm EST

good save Korn!

That was the right thing to do.

midevil | 7/31/2007, 1:41 pm EST

FemalePI,

Keeping the people divided, it’s the government’s dream! Regardless of angry non-fans, Korn’s done a lot to open up the discourse on taboos like child abuse.

FemalePI | 7/31/2007, 1:30 pm EST

I am friends with James Shaffer (Munky) of KoRn. Those guys are more evolved than our Current criminal Administration and the religious zealots of our time. We (the fans) respect their dedication and creativity. Anybody who is spiritually evolved in this day and age when it’s needed more than ever is a friend in my book. I am grateful that they are not afraid to speak up and speak out.

FourKast | 7/31/2007, 11:12 am EST

Did you ever think that “F-You” was a progression in the human experience(evolution) and looking out for No. 1 is the sign of a highly evolved creature. Why, just look at Bush, Cheney, Rove, Rumsfeld, Limbaugh, O’Reilly, etc.
Oh, nevermind.
DEVO IS REAL!

Matt | 7/31/2007, 10:10 am EST

This film is so obviously a spoof. Those of you who missed that go become an hero. There’s no hope for you.

Hmmm... | 7/31/2007, 8:04 am EST

I hate in-breeds. In order to devolve, you must first evolve. Give us our thumbs, we want our thumbs! What does Davis’ family tree look like, a stump?

midevil | 7/31/2007, 7:12 am EST

The mic stand is a Giger sculpture, not a D&D piece.

midevil | 7/31/2007, 7:09 am EST

Ya know, JD gained weight when he went clean. It usually happens when you give up the partying, eh.

Regal | 7/31/2007, 2:29 am EST

I don’t like Korn, but good for him for being cool about all that crap!

proletariat | 7/31/2007, 1:03 am EST

what the whole fuss about this DEVOLUTION shit. its soooooo corny, im sure korn is laughing all the way to the bank because brainless fanboys take this crap seriously.

Robert | 7/31/2007, 12:49 am EST

Respect DEVO. Biology is destiny!

Harold | 7/31/2007, 12:36 am EST

This Korn guy needs to impale himself on his D&D mic stand.

Rachel | 7/31/2007, 12:18 am EST

Ronny Dobbs | 7/30/2007, 8:23 pm EST

Jonathan Davis is old and fat.

yeaaaaaaa stan | 7/30/2007, 7:49 pm EST

Did anyone laugh when they read that KoRn (the band that not only recorded “twist” but plays it live) employs researchers?

babe | 7/30/2007, 6:42 pm EST

Hmmmph. Spoken like a true Republican diplomat.

You know, it would be one thing if Korn actually had something meaningful or clever to say, but the sad truth is THEY are part of the whole “de-evolution” problem.

An irony that I’m sure escapes these mooks.
