  • Patti Smith is working on an album of original material to follow up the April release of her covers album, Twelve. Though Smith will focus on live shows for most of the rest of the year — including a September 13 tribute for her late husband, MC5’s Fred Smith — she says, “I’ve been working on a lot of songs, so I’d like to record again.”
  • After successful workshop performances, the John Mellencamp/Stephen King musical “The Ghost Brothers of Darkland County” will go into full production.
  • Lionel Richie says he’s only recognized for being Nicole’s dad, but he isn’t complaining: “It seems to have made me a bit cool.”

Given Lionel Richie hasn’t been in the same time zone as “cool” since “Brick House,” you can hardly blame the guy for being a bit confused.

I agree, none of this is really news-worthy.

This Mellencamp/King musical is going to be so awesome. We’re going to get 17 new Mellencamp songs in one show. I can’t wait. Mellencamp is the best songwriter in America right now. Can’t freaking wait.

A good addition to the morning news roundup would have been the story about the Sex Pistols re-releasing their debut album on vinyl with the original 7″ single included of the song that was left off. It is going to be an exact recreation of the first 50,000 copies that were released on vinyl. I think it will be released in late October.
All the news in this morning news roundup is pretty Yawnworthy.

Why dont they just outlaw tobacco all together. Its bad for you, ith kills you and its legal. Most companies hate it anyways. Most of society shuns smokers. Millions of dollars are spent on anti-smoking advertisments. The tobacco companies are still marketing thier products to minors. I am a smoker and wish this would happen so I can stop! I applaud Disney for doing this and hope others will follow suit. It does seem a little stupid though

She's Cool | 7/26/2007, 3:40 pm EST

I saw her on Rosanna Arquette’s rock doc: “All We Are Saying.” She’s FULL ON rock and roll and still gives her kids all the love and support of a great mother! And if you get a chance to check out this documentary, it really takes you though a very wide range of artists; and the interviews’ questions and answers are superb. *****! –RB

Way to go Disney, that’ll show ‘em! Hey, why not ban alcohol drinking, all other forms of drug abuse, murders, stealing, and domestic abuse in all your films..those things are bad too, right?

Now, what part of the musical will have the chevy truck drive up on stage and “Our Country” starts playing?
