Maybe Kanye West isn’t as in love with his own image as we thought. Just a few days ago a clip of West’s funky, Daft Punk-sampling “Stonger” made the rounds on the Web (it features bits of anime classic Akira), and today comes an even wackier new video for “Can’t Tell Me Nothing.” A super-lo-fi video for the song had hit the Net in May, in which West defiantly raps alone in a giant field. In the new, far more ambitious video that resembles the fan-made homages usually found on YouTube, a bearded, beer-bellied white farm dude lip-synchs West’s vocal track while gyrating on a tractor, tending to cows, presiding over some dancing girls in country frocks and spitting at his equally unlikely sidekick. [Update: Yes, Rock Daily is aware that the “dude” is funnyman Zach Galifianakis and his “sidekick” is indie troubador Will Oldham.] Both tracks are from West’s upcoming Graduation, which will face off against 50 Cent’s Curtis on September 11. We’ll expect a clip of a suburban soccer mom rapping to “I Get Money” in the near future.
