The White Stripes’ Canadian Adventure: The Photo Gallery

7/17/07, 4:06 pm EST

White Stripes

In April, Jack and Meg White announced an unprecedented (for them) tour of Canada during which they would visit all ten provinces plus the Yukon, Nunavut and Northwest Territories. “Having never done a full tour of Canada, Meg and I thought it was high time to go whole hog,” Jack said at the time. The band did just that, performing everywhere from a bowling alley in Saskatoon to a bus in Winnipeg to a flour plant in Ontario. Check out our photo gallery featuring some of the more unusual stops on the trek.

It’s spelt Nunavut and it’s a bowling alley

todd | 7/17/2007, 4:26 pm EST

this is great for Canada.

Who are you, the spelling pigs | 7/17/2007, 4:38 pm EST

Spelled is spelled spelled. Moron.

lik roper | 7/17/2007, 4:49 pm EST

that chick is the lamest drummer ever!

Drummer2Drummer | 7/17/2007, 5:12 pm EST

Her drumming gets me HOT.

Hambone Williams | 7/17/2007, 5:43 pm EST

you have to understand the WS to understand megs drumming. Its not supposed to be complicated. Its a blues band…jack tells stories. thats it!

nice pixelated image RS!!! | 7/17/2007, 6:14 pm EST

why is the photo pixelated? For a photo gallery to have such a poor quality “cover” image is inexcusable.

First horrible video reviews of albums that came out weeks ago, now this. WTF? SOOOO glad I’m not paying for this drivel anymore.

Dave Grohl | 7/17/2007, 6:35 pm EST

Oh please, are we really going to get into an argument over Meg’s drumming again? I swear, every time the topic of the White Stripes comes up, there is always a huge argument over Meg’s drumming. Give it a rest. Either you dig it or you don’t, its all your own damn opinion.

pixelated? | 7/17/2007, 6:42 pm EST

i think there’s something wrong with your computer dude.

Uncle Noname | 7/17/2007, 6:44 pm EST

spelt (spĕlt) v. – A past tense and a past participle of spell

ruce | 7/17/2007, 6:44 pm EST

meg is a solid drummer she can do fills but she never does or prefers not to

rockbutterfly | 7/17/2007, 7:06 pm EST

Right on Dave,
This sounds condescending but it’s not. If you’re not a professional drummer you just don’t understand. It’s all about playing for the song. There seems to be, still to this day, something I like to call the “Neil Peart Syndrome,” which basically is if you don’t play like Neil Peart, you don’t know how to play (What crap! competely untrue!) Peace,Mike

mr hankey | 7/17/2007, 7:50 pm EST

i cnat beleeve that spelt is aktualy a werd.

Simple Truth | 7/17/2007, 8:22 pm EST

MEG’S “DRUMMING” SUX HAIRY MAN ASS!

Canadian Boy | 7/17/2007, 8:41 pm EST

More bands need to be this cool!!! The White Stripes are in a class of their own. Keep on rocking!!!

Love | 7/17/2007, 8:43 pm EST

Meg White can have my children. The new White Stripes CD is the best this year. Suck on that.

the phil | 7/17/2007, 8:44 pm EST

Is there any other band these days that illicits such opinions as The Stripes do?? I think that pretty much speaks to there greatness…see you in the Garden!!

nutsack | 7/17/2007, 10:24 pm EST

spelt is a type of grain. It’s very good.

I love the White Stripes. They rocked BluesFest in Ottawa last week.

rachel sue | 7/17/2007, 10:53 pm EST

In my opinion, I think Meg is a fabulous drummer. She knows what she’s doing. Losers.

Anonymous | 7/17/2007, 11:17 pm EST

In 3 or 4 of the pictures (best one is photo 1), there are guys in black suits and red ties with fancy black hats. Who are they? WS version of the S1Ws?

Kent Brockman | 7/17/2007, 11:18 pm EST

I, for one, welcome our new Grammer Overlords.

lik roper | 7/17/2007, 11:49 pm EST

ok, i’m sorry; if dave grohl likes meg’s drumming, then i like meg’s drumming too, or something – if that actually IS dave grohl, that is…

stasiu 27 | 7/18/2007, 12:30 am EST

white stripes in the great white north…..I love it…

thomas | 7/18/2007, 12:48 am EST

That is awesome, playing in all these unconventional places…a flour mill…I love it!

Ice Cream Man | 7/18/2007, 2:13 am EST

good drummer or not…Meg has a great rack and continues to look hotter all the time. I hope Jack is giving her a “Broken Doorbell” every night!

Carl | 7/18/2007, 4:06 am EST

Nice comment “Ice Cream Man”! Finally someone who realizes the true essence of rock and roll.

Ghost Mutt | 7/18/2007, 4:11 am EST

Yes I would also like turn Meg’s white Orchid Blue (I think that might actually be offensive, but no matter)

favian | 7/18/2007, 6:17 am EST

i remember dave grohl attending the first american raconteurs gig, he was in casual attendance and looked to have enjoyed the whole set. he was pretty nice.

the white stripes has fans in high places… bob dylan, jimmy page, billy gibbons, jeff beck, the flaming lips, tom morello, and more.

i guess the critics of the band have better tastes than the previously mentioned gods of american music.

simply put, bitching about meg is extremely 2001, get over it and take the plunge. you will be pleasantly surprised and regret not listening to them sooner.

reserve your attacks for useless bands like fallout boy and panic!

i give the stripes so much respect for trying to fix all the damage done to rock by emo and rapmetal.

thanks jack

Banjo | 7/18/2007, 8:43 am EST

Meg isn,t a great drummer, but she brings exactly what is need to the white stripes music. anyone remember Ringo?
alos, yeah she’s hot!
White Stripes in Ottawa was amazing! someone said they weren’t “bluesy enough” to play Bluesfest, someone must be colourblind

Neds Fresh Sister | 7/18/2007, 8:52 am EST

When a band sees Canada as a bigger place than TO, VAN & Montreal I think it helps them two fold. Not only are they opening eyes in corners that wouldn’t have the chance to drive to Detroit, Boston, Buffalo Minneapolis or Seattle but they deserve to be selling more albums.

Pearl Jam pulled this off a couple of years back and seeing both of these shows in my backyard is different…
Its an experience promoters and managers of other bands should consider.

Good on the Stripes, and thanks a million for coming!

davidG | 7/18/2007, 8:59 am EST

They also played for about 30 people at the Black Watch Armoury in Montreal. I was walking down the street and heard live music coming through the open window. When Jack started singing I recognized them. I stopped and listened. They played for about half an hour.

davidG | 7/18/2007, 9:03 am EST

They also played the Black Watch Armory in Montreal to about 30 people. I was walking down the street and heard live music coming through the armory window. When Jack started singing I recognized them. I stuck around and listened. They played about 30 minutes. I think they ended with Ball and Bisquit. It was pretty cool.

They are members of The White Stripes’ road crew.

cota | 7/18/2007, 10:40 am EST

Some folks keep talking about how the Stripes “suck” or that they are a “crap” band.(??). Could these people please let us know who IS a great band? Please, oh please inform us, cuz we others think that the Stripes are one of the coolest bands to come out in years!! Pretty much in a league of thier own.

So come on, nay sayers,,,,,who are you listening to these days??

The Lord | 7/18/2007, 10:43 am EST

My white-striped children are a gift to music. Haters: Your lame.

cota | 7/18/2007, 10:47 am EST

bill bones | 7/18/2007, 12:01 pm EST

i like em.

Anthony Pittarelli | 7/18/2007, 12:09 pm EST

that one note show vid is pretty funny

Homes | 7/18/2007, 12:34 pm EST

Megs drumming works for the same reason that the ACDC dudes drumming works so well. Sometimes simplicity is the most effective way to go. It sounds more raw and powerful when applied correctly.

Homes | 7/18/2007, 12:34 pm EST

Word

Jesus | 7/18/2007, 12:36 pm EST

White Stripes drumming and ACDC drumming are similar in that they are simplistic yet powerful.

killyridols | 7/18/2007, 1:22 pm EST

If you don’t like Meg’s drum playing then I guess you don’t like the drumming of Charlie Watts either. Watts BTW always comes in first place when they do drummer surveys for best drummer in the rock biz. She’s the only piece to the rythm section of a blues band. And she keeps their music sounding tight.

If you don’t like The White Stripes yr. a moron. Jack White is the first American rock artist since Dylan that understands and carries on the American music tradition. The man is a walking text book of american rock ‘n’ roll history. From Son House to the Sonics he knows his shit, and he can play it with more swagger than anyone that has come before him. And, he’s not a cocky asshole that’s full of himself. Oh, and if you needed another reason to belive in the power of Jack, he’s from Detroit.

Mario Kart | 7/18/2007, 1:25 pm EST

The absolute coolest I think was they performed behind closed doors for children at a school or hospital oor something… no adults allowed
I’m from Toronto so I’ve been seeing their news clippings pop up every few days in the news- I REALLY hope someone could produce a DVD montage of it all!
Major props to playing Whitehorse, Yellowknife, & Iqaluit!!!
They deserve honourary Order of Canada*

Izzy | 7/18/2007, 1:47 pm EST

It wouldn’t be a day without Rolling Stone’s daily Tiger Beat White Stripes diary entry. “Today, The White Stripes watched TV. Then they got up and made some lunch. They are so cool. Omigod !! I Heart White Stripes forever!!”

- Rolling Stripes Fan Magazine

Morriison, Piss and Vinegar | 7/18/2007, 1:56 pm EST

YOU’RE ALL A BUNCH OF FUCKING SLAVES!

Hey IZ | 7/18/2007, 2:41 pm EST

They watched TV and made lunch…Sounds like something we all know and hate…reality TV. To the major and minor network executives: Can you please hire writers to write scripts(I know someone who can do that! heh, heh, heh…Michael”Rockbutt erfly” McKeon (yeah, that’s right)

Penile Implant | 7/18/2007, 5:11 pm EST

Anyone who doesn’t like the white stripes has no taste and they are a big sack of granny fat. The White Stripes oooze talent and command respect because they rock. Get with it all you haters.

And all of you who just like them because Meg has big tits, you have no respect for women and you should be castrated. There is more substance to Meg than her attractive physical appearance…lets see here, shes an amazingly talented musician!

Hank | 7/18/2007, 6:53 pm EST

Im sorry. I guess you don’t get it.

MattallicA | 7/18/2007, 8:42 pm EST

the dudes in the hats suits and red ties are the roadies man. they were chilling out in the lobby before the show, pretty cool to see. they played a baseball diamond for a few songs on the tour too.

George | 7/19/2007, 8:23 am EST

to that moron izzy,
stop complaining about rolling stone’s coverage of rock music. there has been a lot to cover concerning the white stripes considering all the big things they’ve been doing the past few months, you expect a rock journalism magazine to ignore it?

i hope they make the cover, if they put some crap like panic at the disco on the cover again, i am unsubscribing.

Izzy | 7/19/2007, 2:02 pm EST

Hey “Miss The Point” George… I never complained about the RS covering rock music – it’s just that there are other bands / artists out there besides The White Stripes.

Yet RS thinks everyone needs to know what they are doing on a daily basis – no matter how benign or boring. RS searches ANY reason to include ANYTHING they can possible find for an excuse to post them on a daily basis.

I’ve never seen a magazine so devoted, enamored with one artist or band as RS is with WS.

We get it, RS – White Stripes is a good band – maybe even an important band. Okay, happy ?? Now move on.

Curious | 7/19/2007, 4:17 pm EST

Is Meg single? She can play with my sticks anytime.

fnrebel | 8/7/2007, 9:41 pm EST

i just wanna thank the whitestripes 4 comeing 2 canada and creating a music buzz weather it be a bowling alley a park a bus or a arena i think the ws deserve another rs cover
