Paris Hilton Hits the Studio For Post-Prison Album

7/17/07, 11:33 am EST

Paris HiltonParis Hilton wants to follow in the footsteps of Akon, T.I., Chuck Berry, Merle Haggard, Bobby Brown and Steve Earle — she’s ready for her post-jail album. Hilton is apparently over her prison-induced spiritual awakening and is once again ready to chase her dream of legitimate pop stardom via a second album overseen by (who else?) Scott Storch, the super-producer she breathily shouts out during the opening seconds of her first record, Paris. “I’ve been working on it with Scott for a few weeks,” Hilton says, and a source close to the heiress insists Paris takes voice lessons regularly. “She’s really serious about her music career.” Does this mean we will finally get to hear those Rob Cavallo-produced tracks that rocked too hard for the last album?

And if the promise of a new Paris album isn’t enough, go buy the Smashing Pumpkins’ Zeitgeist. The album insert contains shots of Hilton taken by Billy Corgan; the photo above adornes the cover of the U.K. “Tarantula” single.

This whole Paris Hilton having a music career business makes me sick to my stomach. It just proves how meaningless and vapid modern pop music is if that worthless piece of human garbage with dog shit in her soul has songs on the radio.

@Oddjob:
Well, that would be the scholarly way to describe it.

Looking Forward | 7/17/2007, 4:42 pm EST

Despite my inherent embarrassment when picking up a copy of the Paris Hilton record, I did, and I enjoyed it. (To put it in perspective I actually picked up the new Keane album to not look like a total cheese-bag… listened three times and haven’t gone back, snore city) but the Paris record stuck with me and I find it one of the better pop records of the last year.

Regardless of her questionable talents as a singer/performer/writer, the end product was GOOD for a pop album, nuff said. She did exactly what Britney, Christina, Justin, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood… and for that matter Linda Rondstadt and Tina Turner have done before… let other producers and writers create their material… they are the face/voice. Do you write all of them off just as easily?

Now, many of those artists have grown and become writers in their own right, but I doubt that Paris will ever regain any amount of respect for the work she has done because of the public persona the she (and we) help create.

If Paris really is the symbol of the end of quality music, I would say that we got what we asked for. Why do we see Paris in the news? Because we watch. Why is Paris on the cover of just about every magazine? because we buy them. Why is Paris doing a second record? Because she had a top ten single, a number one dance song, and album that debuted in the top ten and sold close to a million records.

For my full thoughts on Paris please feel free: http://wecastmusic.blogspot.co m/2006/08/screwed.html

Dear God,

I just got some news that’s beyond disturbing. I never question your ways, be it war, disease, death or any other subject that plagues our society. Now I hear Paris Hilton is going to make another “album”? This single act take all of my faith and puts it in question. I’ve made a decision, and this is going to be my last correspondance with you, God. I see now, you don’t exist.

shame on you for two things:

covering her, and for putting her in the same sentence as Chuck Berry.

Fuck off MTV…oh I mean Rolling Stone. Impossible to tell the difference anymore

Hendrix's Ghost | 7/17/2007, 6:48 pm EST

Hey “Looking Forward”, you made some really good points, I will grant you that. But you still bought a Paris Hilton album…

Paris Hilton, is NOT and NEVER WILL BE, a musician. So why the #$*(# is she recording an album? Because teenagers think she is hot. And thats what has ruined the music industry, MTV made it become all about image and outward appearance and now talent is no longer required to make a hit record. Its disgusting. And Rolling Stone covering it???? Didn’t this used to be a music magazine? A rock music magazine?

What is the world coming to?

Random | 7/17/2007, 7:51 pm EST

Get off your high horses, at least she is having a go… so what, dont listen to it… better still think u can do a better job.. GO MAKE YOUR OWN RECORD??? I must admit at times she is weird and all of the above, but she doesnt have to do things like this i know, she has all the money in the world…. but god life is boring without people having a go, and she isnt really that bad of a singer… no where near the best… but everything is produced heavily these days all bands some and singers song good! I bet if kelly clarkson or someone like that did the exact same job as she is about to do, ud be on here ravin how good it is!

Cheesecrop | 7/17/2007, 9:49 pm EST

I never used to question the Pumpkins before this, but right now the acts from the Oklahoma metal show are looking really good.

Why are you trying to play it off as if this is the worst news ever RollingStone? YOU are the ones who gave her first album 3 STARS!!!! YES! AS IN: GOOD ALBUM PARIS! so stop your bitching ’cause you are contributing to her music career!
hypocrites….

Why is RS covering anything about Paris Hilton? Disgusting.

andy | 7/18/2007, 10:12 am EST

Why?

Looking Forward | 7/18/2007, 10:40 am EST

Rolling Stone reports on Paris Hilton because they are, and always have been, a source for what is happening in music and entertainment. Despite your tastes, RS will report on what is NOW. I remember wondering why they put South Park on the cover (which I loathe) but they were, and still are, a piece of what is now… and their aesthetic is rock and roll. I may find it offensive, but that is what Rolling Stone has been about since it’s inception.

So you think that it is offensive that they cover Paris Hilton, but the facts are she’s making music… that’s what they report. I don’t think we can question the particulars of what they cover… I might find Fall Out Boy completely insignificant but they sell, have a point of view and there you go. I may role my eyes at RS putting a derivative band like FOB on the cover but they are there, they sell records, and there you go. I just won’t read it. Besides, shouldn’t I make decisions on what I’m interested? Not RS.

Steve'o | 7/18/2007, 12:16 pm EST

Nicely said Looking Forward. I agree 100%. It has and always will be a pop culture magazine reflective of the times. It’s always fun looking back to issues from the 70’s and 80’s and seeing who is still relevant and who has faded into oblivion. I’m not defending Paris Hilton’s album in any way. I’m just saying she is sadly a reflection of our times and for that you can blame the one thing that made this woman a star to begin with. The American public.

NOTICE TO ALL OF YOU:

Even though I am also equally as disgusted as most of you on Paris’ supposed new “album,” I do, however, urge you all to take comfort and and sleep freely knowing that even though Paris is going to put out a new album, we all know that it is really NOT going to be a Paris Hilton album. Rather, it is going to be the new Scott Storch album…but with Paris’ image on it and ‘occasionally’ her vocals on it as well. I think we all know that Scott Storch will be the real man behind the music on this one.

Paris may be the most special talent to hit the music scene since Tori Amos.

Looking Forward | 7/18/2007, 1:41 pm EST

I am constantly surprised why people refuse to give Paris credit for anything. This young woman has already been successful at a number of different businesses, and in regards to her music check out the credits… she co-wrote the songs!

Britney, at one time was considered someone of an innovator in dance pop yet it wasn’t until her fourth album that she actually wrote a song. (The cringe inducing “Everytime.”) I am no way about to call Paris brilliant, but come on… where does the HATE come from?

I think Paris takes the brunt and attack for a lot of things we hate about success, celebrity, and over-exposure. It’s often said that Paris doesn’t “do” anything. She actually does a lot… she has a clothing line, she’s written a book, she’s a successful model, and oh yeah… she writes music too.

Will the new Paris record really be just a new Scott Storch record? Well… that’s questionable. Was Thriller just a Quincy Jones record? Was Justin, Nelly Furtado, and Missy Elliots’ records all just really Timbaland?

I liked the Paris record, and agrees with Rolling Stone when they gave it a 3 star, I might have given it 3 1/2. I don’t know if any of you happened to listen to the record, but as pop-dance records go… it was consistant, which can’t be said for any Britney or Christina record to date.

I’d like everyone to really think about why they hate this woman, someone you’ve never met. I find her whole thing hysterical, and sure… I don’t agree with some of the specialty treatment she’s received when it comes to the law, but find it hysterical that we care so much. She’s a construct of our celebrity obsessed culture, and she’s along for the ride.

Paris is an opportunist, as most successful people are, and through her higher society upbringing became a New York, then world wide celebrity. I am sure nobody is more surprised about this than Paris herself. I am sure she is like… why do they care? Or… why do they want to hate me so much?

The next time you are going to trash Paris think about the fact that she’s gone out and done something. Maybe you talk a lot about the book, movie, or song you’re going to write… or the addition you’re going to put on your house, or that brilliant clothing line you know you have in you… but where is it? Do you hate Paris because she goes out and DOES what she wants? Sure she has more opportunities, maybe it’s a little easier for her… but what is stopping YOU???

Hate Paris because she stole your boyfriend. Hate Paris because she gave you a dirty look outside a club. How may other people do you despise without listening to their music, following their career, or honestly pay any attention to outside of what tabloid culture tells you.

You hate Paris because you hate yourself… try to get happy. Okay?

Paris Hilton recording an album is like Queen Elizabeth running England…. in other words, NOT.AT.ALL. They’re both merely figureheads. Paris writing songs? Yeah, sure. Like most pop stars who claim writing credit – they change one line & suddenly they’re songwriters. Give me a break. And whoever dared compare this no-talent freak of nature to Christin Aquilera, Linda Ronstadt & Tina Turner is the biggest moron on the planet!

Lindsey L. | 7/21/2007, 9:19 pm EST

Thank god….I need another one of her cd’s…they make great coasters for my drinks!!

SmartWoman | 9/5/2007, 3:27 pm EST

If I was handed everything because of who’s daughter I was, I’d be conidered a marketing/business genuis too! She’s an idiot and has had everything handed to her. Whoever thinks she is talented is also an idiot. Yes, she’s made a lot of money from her businesses, but at teh same time, you must understand she was given these things and her handlers make the decisions for her. She’s just a face and name for the people that actually do the work.
