Shirley Bassey Takes Over Party-Starting Duties From Pink

7/13/07, 5:02 pm EST

Shirley Bassey is best known for having recorded three of the most beloved James Bond theme songs ever: “Goldfinger,” “Diamonds Are Forever” and “Moonraker” (vote for your favorite Bond theme here). But the seventy-year-old Welsh diva is enjoying a career resurgence thanks in part to British department store Marks & Spencer, which commissioned Bassey to cover Pink’s tune “Get the Party Started” for a Bond-themed commercial last Christmas. This led to a new album, Get the Party Started, which was released on June 25 in the U.K. Check out this hilarious, over-the-top video for the lead single.

This is one of those rare occasions where the cover is FAR BETTER than the original!

I’m a big Bassey fan but I can’t say this is one of her best efforts. Hehe, it needs to be a little more over the top. Cool video though…

I love this song but Bassey gives it that extra touch – smooth, classy snd ultimately hers.

PINK should honored.

Looking forward 2 the album

Shirley Bassey has got to be one the most powerful vocalists of all time. She isn’t a RockN’Roll singer, but here she shows she can do just about anything. Rolling Stone has done a disservice to themselves for not listing Bassey in their top 100 Greatest vocalists of all time. She should be listed in the top 20, at least.
