Has Pop Music Murdered Jack and Jill? Can Beyoncé’s Family Rescue Them?

baby hip hopAccording to a British survey, the traditional nursery rhyme is in danger of extinction. The cause: popular music (duh). Instead of soothing their children with rhymes like “Jack and Jill” and “Humpty Dumpty,” parents are singing pop songs and TV themes to their tykes instead. And lullaby versions of pop tunes like the Rockabye Baby series aren’t helping either. Evidently, they’re causing the line between pop music and the stuff parents play for their kids to get even more obscure.

Enter Beyoncé’s crew: Her father and sister, Solange (who’s a new mom), are launching Baby Jamz, a hip-hop-inspired pre-school toy line, which includes a disc called Nursery Rhymes Volume 1 featuring hip-hop adaptations of “This Old Man,” “Old MacDonald” and “Skip To My Lou.”

just give em some bach, mozart and beethoven if you are so worried about losing old school music. That would probably be better for them than humming garbage like twinkle twinkle little star anyhow. Give them something that will engage their minds.
