The Phil Spector Trial: We Watch Court TV So You Don’t Have To

7/12/07, 9:29 am EST

spectorWHAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY?
Lana Clarkson’s “good friend” Jennifer Hayes-Riedl helped out the defense by testifying that Clarkson was depressed around the time she died of a gunshot wound at Phil Spector’s home. Why a “good friend” of Clarkson’s would be a witness for the defense was left unexplained, but Hayes-Riedl made a series of damaging claims concerning Clarkson’s drinking problem, her “anal retentiveness” and her post-firing depression. Hayes-Riedl wasn’t the most trustworthy witness, though: She had that “starred in too many Whitesnake videos” look about her, the prosecution exposed her less-than-perfect memory and it was evident that she was no stranger to the word “exaggeration.”

IS THIS GOOD OR BAD FOR SPECTOR?
Both. Hayes-Riedl testified that Clarkson was not just depressed — she was “very, very, very depressed.” However, Hayes-Riedl also ruined future defense witness Punkin Pie’s credibility — yes, her name is Punkin Pie — by saying her friend Pie has a terrible memory and can’t remember anything.

HAIR & WARDROBE UPDATE:
These hot summer temperatures didn’t prevent Spector from going all black with a red tie.

While the job of the prosecution is to prove their case….I do not believe they did a good job. Witnesses Pie & Hayes-Ridel were very different being credible at different times and trying to hurt one another’s credibility at the same time. It is a mess, only the jury can convict but I do not think he is guilty.

Why wouldn’t a good friend of Clarkson’s tell the truth? What good does it do Clarkson to railroad an innocent man? Hayes-Riedel said she came to court to tell the truth, and I believe she did.

I found Hayes-Riedl to be a very credible witness and enough by herself for reasonable doubt. She spoke with Clarkson every day, and after hearing what she has to say, I’m convinced Clarkson probably did commit suicide. You are very biased.

they’re 100% positive that it wasn’t a suicide, so why would they try to make her look like a depressed drunk? … although, it is california, and apparently every guy is allowed to kill one person. So I guess if you can prove she was an asshole, they’ll let this one count for spector and let him go home by labor day.
