Album Preview: The Foo Fighters’ Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace

7/12/07, 4:34 pm EST

Foo Fighters

Live Earth hero Dave Grohl has mentioned Steely Dan as a big influence on the Foo Fighters during the making of their sixth album, and after an advance listen to September 25’s Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace, we know why: Echoes has a distinct ’70s-rock undercurrent. There are sonic references to early-’70s Zeppelin, late-era Beatles and Bruce Springsteen tossed throughout the otherwise typically loud, brawny and stadium-ready power tunes.

Opening track and likely lead single “The Pretender” is a classic Foos tune — all tight, urgent structure building to expansive, choral crescendos. We’re big fans of the more mellow, magnificently Springsteen-like summer jam “Long Road to Ruin” and the spare, almost confessional “Stranger Things Have Happened.” Other noteworthy tracks include “The Ballad of the Beaconsfield Miners” (an instrumental Grohl wrote and put on the album, as promised, for two men who were trapped in a goldmine in Tasmania earlier this year) and “But Honestly” and “Home,” the last two tracks on the album, which feature Grohl playing piano for the first time ever on a Foo Fighters record.

THE REAL TRUTH ABOUT THE FOOS | 1/28/2008, 7:40 pm EST

Dave is a genious and you fools who cant see that need to keep quiet because your confused and foolish. The nuber of great songs made by the FOO compared to the bad is overwhelming. PPl like THE TRUTH up there expect too much and are always bound for disappointment

What?? | 1/21/2008, 3:07 pm EST

Anyone who is Knowing The foo’s and their new album obviously has some sort of brain damage!!! This is by far the best written album by the Foo Fighters. I’m a fan of all their previous efforts but this album is THE ONE. Dave has led this band in the right direction since day one and i don’t believe he was trying to impress any Nirvana Fans. The Foo’s are not Nirvana and everyone knows that. Go Listen to “Nevermind” or “In Utero” if you want that. Also, so what if you think grunge is dead… music evolves… get used to it. The Foo’s are definitely Inspiring.

The Truth | 12/7/2007, 8:10 pm EST

Foo fighters are like one of the only good bands left from the 90’s who are still commercial. The chili peppers are fucking shit nowadays! Pearl Jam are still good but its hard to find out what they’re doing most of the time and they’ve become all political. I’am so Fucking dissapointed with the new foos album, it is terrible, the pretender was cool though, but don’t get me started on the rest of the album its just formulaic radio friendly no balls bullshit. There is NO diversity on the album, At least in your honor was diverse and having the two cds made more accessible and the whole experimental concept worked suprisingly well. With this new (shit) album they decided to have one cd (which is good) but there is no diverity like on the previous record, the could of had half heavy song half acoustic. One by one was probably their most harshly recieved album, as there about three good songs one ok song and the rest is just filler. I’m suprised they haven’t lost half their fanbase yet. You may think I sound harsh, but I only want the best for the band and all of us fans and supporters. Grohl has lost the plot. I have no idea how they are going to recover from this. If dave or any one from the band or anyone who is in contact with the band please listen to me.

Thank you,

from a devoted but dissapointed fan

I’m way too frustrated with what passes as rock nowadays. I don’t even bother to listen to new bands because the past ones have disappointed me so much. I’m sticking with the Foo Fighters. Nowadays people don’t rock anymore. You gotta play that guitar till it screams, you hear that Chemical Romance, stop being such pussies and start ROCKING ! YEAH !

Whoever thinks that Foo Fighters are a progression forward from Nirvana does not know music. They had one decent first record, just like Hole did, basically a Kurt Cobain hangover, and then its been one ‘radio-friendly’ abomination after another. I dont find their moronic fratboy antics charming, and I dont find their by the numbers songwriting and mainstream approach even to be listenable. The best music has always been at least partially about rebellion, and Dave Grohl has betrayed that aspect of Nirvana that made him famous. He bows down to Clear Channel, and he calculates what he can do, and he does it. He isn’t interested in stirring anything up, its just about feeding his needy jockstar ego. His guitar playing is boring, he has a good voice, but doesnt stretch it, except to do generic screaming, and his songwriting is a litany of boring progressions. I really hate this band, but so what.
Oh yeah, Pearl Jam, another joke.
Two good first records, then shoved down our throats for a decade afterwards. PJ is a little more political, but they can’t write a song to save their lives either.
I laughed my head off when Stone Temple Pilots stole PJ’s sounds and then made it a million times better. Too bad Weiland hit the smack.
Grunge is dead. Nirvana, AIC, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, STP, White Zombie, Collective Soul.
Those were the real grunge bands.

FF, PJ, and THe Presidents are an embarassment to grunge, and tainted what was a major musical movement.

Good God, do you people think anybody cares what a complete herd of illiterates write (or attempt to write) about the Foos? If you could only compose a thought and express it intelligibly then somebody might take you half-way seriously; hell, even spelling half the words correctly would be an accomplishment. As it is, the bunch of you are a perfect reason for the mandatory enforcement of education at the point of a gun. You think it doesn’t matter, but it certainly does. And for the record, the Foos are excellent musicians and masters at their craft.

Lansing, Michigan. Okay, An enviable album. Anticipating the release, I ignored every chance of stealing a sneak listen and saved it all for the release yesterday at Best Buy. Back in my pre-teen days of Crosby,Stills,Nash and Young, Boston, and Skynard…though almost forgotten but all too familiar listening to this album took me back to those days of not only what a rock album should sound like, but what it should FEEL like, the Foo Fighters….Rock Royalty, Dave Grohl, the most beautiful voice in Rock, the King of Rock. How awesome for a band to evolve into such an epic force. They present the new age trend with a flare from the past, which reflects their past influences in rock and roll. Its something else for them to share with us who they are, this is what its about, this is a successful work of art. They have kept us guessing for some time, I see it now, the voice of the Foo Fighters is loud and clear. This is their best album ever. My favorite song on the album is Long Road to Ruin. This album FEELS good, and I feel lucky. Dave Grohl is on my “Top Ten” most beautiful people. I am just blown away with all the hard work and talent, I challenge you to embrace this piece of Rock and Roll History.

Roni-Sue | 9/25/2007, 10:16 pm EST

Rock Royalty. This is your Rock and Roll. A group that has evolved with a present day style without forgetting the past that makes them such a strong band today. While listening to this album, I felt some of the same as when I listened to Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders album, that it was an all forgotten but familiar feeling, like when I was a pre-teen listening to crosby stills and nash, boston, or lynard skynard for the first time, like hey….this is what a rock album should FEEL like, and I forgot that I ever felt this way about listening to music. This album is enviable. If I told you I started to feel my bottom lip quiver as there where no more CD’s on the Best Buy shelves today, and my eyes started to swell as I had to listen to the associate say, “I will go see if there are any more”, and thats all it took tears rolling down my face, seriously, my most anticipated album, and I couldn’t even get a copy, well he didn’t get far, as a box on his cart had more copies, what the hell I cried anyway. I’m so happy, I’m still happy. Thank you for putting so much of yourselves in this album, it is an indispensable addition to my collection.

ffan | 9/25/2007, 3:53 pm EST

huge fan!!
but thought the album would be better

its good
but needs more harder rock songs
thats what made the foo fighters what they are today

and should be keeping them going!

but great song writing

KP | 9/22/2007, 9:51 pm EST

As someone who has “previewed” the CD (don’t worry, I’m still going to buy it), I have to say that the entire album is completely unique from anything they have ever written. Some songs do incorporate styles from other albums… it’s like every album got thrown into a blender haha. And of course I mean that in a good way.

Everlong a Foo Fighter | 9/20/2007, 5:07 pm EST

I read somebody earlier on this say “Nirvana they are not”. Of course they’re not, if anything FF is a revolt against Nirvana(by the way, this doesn’t mean I dont like Nirvana)! My own opinion is that DG decided happy music in the world would be a better thing overall regardless of whether the Foos got critical acclaim for it or not. Foo Fighters is a vehicle for Grohl to say “effin enjoy life!” don’t get too hung up on things or what other people think of you and give a s*it about things close to you! Can’t wait to listen to the new album and just waiting for someone to point out I’ve contradicted myself somewhere!

so what if seattle is over? the music is still great. Pearl Jam is still excellent, as is nirvana, and as are the foo fighters. then, now, and im sure on this new album as well.

jongfoo | 9/14/2007, 4:59 am EST

If you were listening to rock since the 70’s you will like the Foo Fighters, they are the only band that will tell you how rock was before and the way rock should be.

Most “new” bands try to emulate their songs and make it their carrier single.

Well that’s only me. I don’y know about you. :)

Peace.

Valentine | 9/13/2007, 3:35 am EST

i have a confession to make.. i just downloaded the album (WAIT! don’t hate me quite yet! i downloaded the album just to get a sneak preview. i’m not seeding it after it was finished and i’m buying it when it comes out)

you know what? the album is awesome!! just hearing Dave’s voice roaring through the choruses is strong enough to make a mafioso cry like an emokid on crack.

as this article said, the album has references to the seventies, but by my opinion, in very small proportions. i was a tad disappointed by “in your honor” but this album truly makes up for it. it got the good foo’s feeling to it and it keeps on satisfying me even through the slower songs.

to sum it up: do pretty much whatever it takes to get this album. if you’ve ever liked the foo, you will love this!

PEACE

Yehaw | 9/12/2007, 11:23 am EST

Taking an early listen to this album, great stuff. I saw someone say PJ was in an entirely different league as FF. Ok, maybe if you put the crack directly IN your eye. Otherwise, PJ hasn’t been great since Ten. FF continues to amaze me.

KG | 9/1/2007, 2:11 pm EST

Foos rock and PJ’s newer albums are too.

Nick | 8/23/2007, 12:42 am EST

How many of you think the single “The Pretender” sounds like There Is Nothing Left to Lose and The Colour and the Shape had a baby? I do… and it’s awesome.

JONNIE | 8/16/2007, 7:06 am EST

Seattle. That musical period has ended - it gave us great music and inspiration to move forward, someting PJ and FF have done by a a process of evolution, if you cant grow and change direction as an artist then you may as well move to Vegas and play the same old for evermore.

Sounds like some of you guys need to grow up a little and embrace music for what it is and not just a badge to identify yourselves by. So what if FF are ‘Radio Friendly’ more people might hear them and tune into what they do - and by educating them, they may start listening to other older stuff. Without a marketing machine behind these bands how many of you guys would have been able to enjoy these bands - very few. Grow up.

Got into music in 1994 at the age of 9 just after the Nirvana era had expired. “Foo Fighters” was one of my very first albums. Let’s just say I’ve owned every album since and been to every show possible! Dave is the man! There is not a single front man in music right now who can work a crowd better then he can! Taylor can also rip it up on drums. The fact that Dave plays every instrument and has gone from the drummer of nirvana in the shadow of Kurt to one of the best front man in music speaks for itself! For all of you bashing the Foos…. go back and listen to your emo crap and to cry on your myspace. The Foos are as consistent as they come and you emo crybabys wouldnt know music if it slapped you in the face! Cannot wait for the new one Dave. See you next tour!

dinis | 7/21/2007, 2:57 am EST

Talking about PJ, foo and nirvana?Shit, what are you talking about people?1st of all, their 3 different bands, 2nd music is not a competition, and 3rd WHAT A HELL IS THE SUBJECT HERE? PJ, are gods, i love them all, but nowadays hum…I’m sure it’s not the same thing even to them. I see this Pearl jam as a different band cuz 10 and Vs are albuns of reference to me, and comparing them to these new pearl jam musics gives me, i dont know, a breakdown, but i love them still, mr. Vedder rullez all the time:). I dont like foo that much, i love grhol but i dont like foo figthers, but i used to listen to it a lot in the past, I just stoped, but i have to agreed that it’s the best mainstreem band at the moment and it will be for many year cuz music world, on the mainstream is rotten…I think dave is a gigantic talent but for me, he is a drummer, he is a genial drummer not on the guitar. Someone mentioned that kurt and nirvana are only know on modern culture cuz of dave, well, what modern culture? There’s a modern something, but i would not call it culture, and NO, nirvana will be known for what they’ve done and will be never forgoten by people who like real and passionate music, and even nirvana became to be a sell out band, but thats the nature of music, once people know it and like it, if its good it sells, but there is no question that those 3 guys, including kurt, where great and their band is the lastest god band. But the point is the new foo album here rigth?Well, i dont even wanna know lol…just joking, i hope it turns out well.I wanna ear it.I like dave a lot, and if by mear miracle, if you read this dave,GO BACK TO THE DRUMS, MAKE MORE PROJECTS LIKE PROBOT, YOU ARE LIKE A GOD ON THE DRUMS…YOU ARE BOBO’S ALIVE…MARY ME :) …Farwell and good morning…Keep on rocking in a free world.

Cannot wait for this one…I got into the Foo when they released TINLTL, thought it was excellent, go the first two, thought they both KICKED ASS!! I was a little disappointed with One By One, but In Your Honor definetly made up for it, I’m saying its one of their best….I think this one will be amazing. Millions of people could tell me that FF suck, and I would still listen to them…Dave is one of the best songwriters/musicians today.

ghostofkurt | 7/17/2007, 2:51 am EST

I’d have to agree with arliss.
Pearl Jam is the last remaining band of the “big 4″ out of Seattle.
All of the original bandmembers are still intact. Going to see them in concert live is the only way to fully appreciate them.
Saw them at the Gorge myself last year, and also back in ‘92.
Amazing then and now.
Also a completely different band than Foo Fighters.
Foo Fighters are quite a good band, but maybe a bit too mainstream-oriented and radio-friendly for my own personal taste.
Nirvana they are not.

ghostofkurt | 7/17/2007, 2:24 am EST

Foo Fighters are an entirely different band than Nirvana was.
Stop comparing the two.
It’s not a contest.

Aurora | 7/16/2007, 7:54 pm EST

Most of these comments I have read have been a waste of time, I wanted some opinions about how people think the next album will sound, from Foo fans! What’s with all you coming on hear to write a comment bagging the Fooey’s, that’s not the topic you F@cking idiots! Get a F@ckin Clue!
F@ck I nearly wet myself, that comment comparing Pearl Jam to Fooey’s, Dave Grohl is the greatest rock musician of all time! Most skilled talented rocker of f@cking all time! And they just keep producing great stuff, over and over and over again! I’m possibly the world’s biggest Fooey’s fan, and cannot wait for this album as I think In Your Honour was a bit of a dissappointment, some songs were ok, but I can’t stand “Best of You”, No Way Back, Resolve, Cold Day in the Sun were great, I want more of them sort of songs from them! So all you wingers out there who are still living in 1995, f@cking wake up already because Fooey’s surpassed Nirvana fame after there first 3 albums, stop your sooking and complaining, if anything Kurt Cobain and Nirvana are still well recognised in modern culture because Dave and the Fooey’s are there, because every second c@nt tries to bring this great band down because everyone knows deep down how great this band is, and they will always be remembered, keep up the good work boys, can’t wait, and Taylor you f@ckin rock man!

Good Grief | 7/16/2007, 1:30 pm EST

I’m excited as hell for the next album.. but what’s with the name? too long for my liking..
but if this is anything like the first two albums i’ll be happy

arliss | 7/16/2007, 12:56 pm EST

Get real people, the Foo’s are OK, but not in the same league as Pearl Jam. Not even close. Break down and by Live at the Gorge and you will see what I am talking about.

marnr67 | 7/16/2007, 11:10 am EST

ok the Foo’s maybe a little overrated by the post-emo populace… but they certainly don’t suck

Ceech Marin | 7/16/2007, 9:15 am EST

This band blows. Dave Grohl is living in his Nirvana shadows and at the same time riding on its coatails… If I want to listen to Grohl, I will pull out Nevermind, the only Nirvana album that is significant. If this Album sounds like The Color and The Shape, then we can all rejoice. Grohl is playing the piano on this record for the first time, maybe he can come out and admit it that Axl is his idol and November Rain is his inspiration. This band is trying to become a serious rock band, but all they used to be was a joke. They were a better band during the Footo’s period.

chrissie | 7/16/2007, 5:18 am EST

“Nirvana was a major force in music for a long time but were fading has the years went on.”

Were you older than 2 then? First of all their entire span in the mainstream was 3 years (long time?) and Cobain died at the height of their popularity!

samanthemofthesun | 7/15/2007, 9:59 am EST

Do you get the feeling that people like to write “really shocking things” in an effort to be “non-conformist” naysayers, yet end up sounding a lot like the other “non-conformist” naysayers, thus rendering themselves conformist?

In my opinion, (and it is ONLY my opinion, not a decree from God, so save your sarcastic negative replies), any music produced with sincerity is good music. Any rock and roll, real rock and roll, even with a pop edge, is better than 95% of mainstream music produced today.

Good music sells, bad music sells. What USUALLY sells is corporate identity. Just buy what you like and stop complaining.

By the way, what have YOU done with YOUR life?

So much harsh critique for a record that hasn’t even come out yet! I am curious as to why one would even read the article if he or she doesn’t like the Foo anyway????

Hats off, Foo. Dave Grohl, I thank you for the fun I have had with ya! You came through a pile of manure smelling like a rose!

I WAS a Foo Fighters fan until One by One came out. It was half okay, half bad, and their tour sucked. And considering how horrible the In Your Honor and Skin and Bones albums were, I don’t think this new one will be any better. I guess I’ll just have to download a copy before it’s released and listen to it to see if they’re worthy enough for my purchase. You’ve got some proving to do, ya Foos.

This band is the shit, period. And if Kurdt Cobain is rolling over in his grave it’s because he’s now figured out that maybe he should have let the drummer write some songs. So consistent, tuneful and powerful… Nirvana was a major force in music for a long time but were fading has the years went on. Foo Fighters just keep getting better and better… Keep spinning Kurdt!

I LOVE this band. People who disrespect this band probably do so only because liking something that’s mainstream takes away from their bloated self-importance.

enchantedmuse | 7/13/2007, 5:56 pm EST

Those of you out there bitching about the Foo Fighters, what do you listen to? They are a pure mixture of hard core rock and roll without being completely negative and ugly. They have a great balance between the harder music and the more melodic softer music. I love them and have loved them since the beginning. Dave Grohl is an outstanding musician and lyricist. Have you ever really listened to his lyrics? They’re amazing. I can totally relate to what he’s saying. Music doesn’t always have to be dark and dreary. Life isn’t as crappy as some of the so called bands out there try to say that it is. Maybe if you listened to the music with your soul you’d understand. Keep it up Dave and the rest of the Foos. You guys are awesome!!

grantruby | 7/13/2007, 4:29 pm EST

Pearl Jam quit rocking for a long time. They started to realize that on their last, self-titled, album. Hopefully they’ll come back full force and really get it done with their next offering, but for now, Foo Fighters are one of the few pure rock bands in the mainstream today.

justin | 7/13/2007, 4:04 pm EST

“Hey blucacti-there is a real rock n’roll band out there- the name is PEARL JAM ”

give me a f*ckin break…Pearl Jam is an excellent band, but they rock about 8% as much as Foo Fighters. Eddie Vedder lost out when he decided he wanted to be a politician instead of a rock singer

arliss | 7/13/2007, 3:13 pm EST

Fat Old Guy | 7/13/2007, 2:11 pm EST

Let’s give “In Your Honor” credit. Lots of bands made “Bush Sucks” CDs. Only the Foos made an “Our Guy Is Better” CD. And musically, it was the best thing they’d done since their first album in 1995.

I haven’t bought a CD on the day it was released since Radiohead’s “Kid A,” but I will be at the store on the day the new Foo comes out, credit card in hand, grinning like an idiot.

BlueCacti | 7/13/2007, 11:42 am EST

I agree with a lot of posters here: while the Foo Fighters will never be accused of making “deep” music, there’s something to be said for having an actual rock band on the market right now. In some ways, the Foo seem to be the Creedance of our era — consistently catchy rock songs that don’t mean a lot but they’re great to sing along with in the car. Put me down as being excited to here the new tracks.

i've been rocking since 70's | 7/13/2007, 11:02 am EST

These fuckers rock, they have insightful moments, the tightest band out there right now and really of all time and people like them. Yeah makes you want to accuse them of selling out to the man but they havent ,they sold out to rock n roll.

Aaron D. | 7/13/2007, 10:14 am EST

I’ve been a fan of the Foos for many years now, and what I love about them is their versatility. Their live show is incredible as well. I saw them in ‘05 with Weezer and Kaiser Chiefs; one of the best shows I’ve ever been too.

In Your Honor had its not-so-great moments, but it was pretty excellent for the most part. Not to mention that a double album cost the same as a regular one.

rock star | 7/13/2007, 10:06 am EST

Go foo. I loved the last album. ROCK ON!! :)

Dean | 7/13/2007, 9:28 am EST

Dang, how can people say that the Foo Fighters suck? Dave Grohl is multi-talented. He recorded the entire first Foo album all by himself and he played all the instruments. The guy bleeds talent. The Colour and the Shape is one of the Best albums of the 90’s. Hero, Everlong… for those of us that grew up in the 90’s, we will never forget those songs. And to me… if a band can make unforgetable music… they are awesome. Their new stuff may not be as “influential” or “memorable” as their old stuff, but it doesn’t “suck”.

Oh, and one more thing… if a band or musician inspires new music and new musicians that are great… then they are eternally awesome. I’ve heard a good number of talented bands mention Dave and the Foos as one of their “musical influences”.

Faldo | 7/13/2007, 9:26 am EST

I’m a fan of both Nirvana & the Foo Fighters. Dave Grohl is enormously talented. To go from being one of the Best Rock Drummers Ever to being a lead singer/guitarist for a killer band is amazing.

I’m sure Kurt Cobain would be a fan of his music also. Just because theyre mainsteam doesnt mean theyre crap. Majority of music that is good ends up getting popular in some way or another.

I’m not a big fan of steely dan though, so that is a little concerning. I bet this Album will probably kick ass though.

jack | 7/13/2007, 9:13 am EST

beaconsfield happened last year, 2006, in april

Anonymous | 7/13/2007, 9:07 am EST

The Foos ROCK

Will | 7/13/2007, 7:25 am EST

I’ve been a Foo’s fan since “Monkey Wrench”, but I didn’t get into their last album too much, save for a couple of tracks (”No Way Back”, “Best of You”, “Another Round”, “Miracle”). That said, it’ll be nice to hear some single disk, more concise Foo music a la Colour and Shape or There Is Nothing Left to Lose.

simball | 7/13/2007, 1:51 am EST

with all the crappy music out there these days the foo’s surely stand out as one of the better bands. why y’all rippin’ on ‘em? go listen to your crappy music.

joe wade | 7/13/2007, 12:37 am EST

the 70’s undertones sounds exciting, something to look forward to but…….piano?

kenny | 7/12/2007, 11:34 pm EST

really, stop being such whiney bitches about music. just because its on the radio doesnt mean it sucks. most of you wouldnt know who jimi hendrix wasnt for the radio.
i think this records gonna rock

MWM | 7/12/2007, 11:09 pm EST

Hmmm… I don’t think it should be held against the foos if their music is played on the rasio. Kurt’s songs were played on the radio, but that doesn’t diminish the edgyness of the song. Dave Grohl’s songs rock real hard but he has a fantastic ssense of melody and can write clever and catchy hooks. If a song is played on the radio, it’s not necessarily because it has been paired down to formula, but becuae it ahs the power and edge, but at the same time is skilfully put together

Anonymous | 7/12/2007, 11:06 pm EST

wait a sec!!you guys are real loosers!! Grohl was a drummer!!huh!! thats right.. it takes one hell of a drummer to come up with 6 albums full of great songs..ho wait!! he’s not playing the drums he’s singing and playing guitar..ho my god!! sorry but you gotta be somekind of LOSER to be able to switch instruments like that!hahah for all the losers out there…hey! Grohl was writing songs while he was in Nirvana..ousp way before he was in Nirvana! one oe the best musician around!…do you guys play music at all??

Yoda McCheese | 7/12/2007, 11:04 pm EST

i hope its better than the last one

brian gallagher | 7/12/2007, 11:02 pm EST

Let me get this straight, a band plays real guitars and drums, writes lyrics that are rock and roll, understands what hooks are within songs, and they get crucified by the idiots here? Tell ya what, friends, there’s plenty of Timberlake music to go ’round for you. You wouldn’t know music if it bit you in the ass.

foofoo | 7/12/2007, 10:53 pm EST

RAP AND HIP HOP SUCKS…..IS IT OKAY TO ADMIT THAT YET?

foofoo | 7/12/2007, 10:48 pm EST

as if cobain broke any new ground, just sold underground music to the masses, you all need to get over that overrated junkie, if the idiot didn’t off himself he would probably be playing state fairs right now…

mr.spicoli | 7/12/2007, 10:27 pm EST

dave, you had to left the music industry after the dead of cobain.

Dave | 7/12/2007, 10:27 pm EST

Dear Boring Music/Curt:

I see now that your hiding behind aliases. That’s fine. Your biggest problem has always been the same. It’s not your addictions, your legal troubles nor your horribly beaten inner child. It’s the fact that you don’t have a sense of humor. You’ve never had a sense of humor; you wouldn’t know if something was funny if it crawlwd up your fuckin’kneecap! You believe that being miserble every single second of your life is some kind of fuckin’ virtue… I’ts not. Time may prove you to be right, that my music was shit but at least I’m able to laugh at myself and enjoy my motherfuckin’ life. For Chrissakes get a sense of humor. Shakespeare had one, so did John Lennon. It raised Norman Cousins out of his daethbed, and maybe it could save from you winding up in one at early age.

Peace

Heh... | 7/12/2007, 10:11 pm EST

It’s funny that music isn’t good unless it doesn’t sell. Yeah… That makes sense…

jdunn56 | 7/12/2007, 9:42 pm EST

you know, it’s funny, no matter what subject, everyone on these boards is just fucking negative…the same people saying the Foo Fighters suck, will go post about Nirvana and say, they suck, Foo’s are better…my god, have some constructive critisim or shut up.

foo fan | 7/12/2007, 9:39 pm EST

I’ll admit that the Foos aren’t breaking any new ground with their cd’s-I think even Dave Grohl would say that. But he is awesome at what he does-3 minute power pop/hard rock songs. I too might like the first album or Colour and the Shape the best, but their albums in my opinion are about the closest you can get to a sure thing in music these days. I’d buy it without hearing a note of music.

Jables | 7/12/2007, 9:29 pm EST

I find it hard to get excited about another Foo Fighters album. Each one has a couple of decent tracks and the remaining songs are completely expendable.

The Foo Fighters need to write about six albums, pull two or three of their best songs from each album, and then just compile those onto one for market.

They’ll have a helluva Greatest Hits someday, but collectively, the Foo Fighters suck.

Chips | 7/12/2007, 9:20 pm EST

Foo Fighters sold out hard after the first album. Here’s to another CD full of cheesy, radio friendly noise…

Chips | 7/12/2007, 9:19 pm EST

Kurt Cobain.......... | 7/12/2007, 8:15 pm EST

*rolls over in grave*…….not this crap again……..wasn’t 5 albums of meaningless nonsense enough?

Boring Music............. | 7/12/2007, 8:14 pm EST

that get the drones walking in a single file line again………how this guy has got to 6 albums amazes me……..what garbage…

Luv Dave | 7/12/2007, 7:23 pm EST

I cant wait for the new album. The Foos RULE!!!

Dave | 7/12/2007, 7:12 pm EST

Well, actually me and “Rockbutterfly” are very close friends. Actually we’re hangin’ right now, So print the fuckin thing so he can relax

rockbutterfly | 7/12/2007, 6:51 pm EST

Those are not the comments I am referring to… Ya know the other ones, about the ATM machine?

Dave | 7/12/2007, 6:48 pm EST

Do you mean the one that sold 12 copies?

rockbutterfly | 7/12/2007, 6:37 pm EST

What are you afraid of? She’s always popping off about everyone else? Don’t tell me you are worried that she’ll be amd at you. Courtney is infamous for trying to censor her detractors, They’re not your comments they’re mine. This ia America. Come on, have some guts…I know you got it, come on, post it

rockbutterfly | 7/12/2007, 6:24 pm EST

You don’t mean Courtney as in Courtney, Courtney do you?
Well whoever this Courtney is, I’ll address my comment to the late and never great one. You’re always going on about how you understand Kurt’s music better than anyone else. From what I can see, all you know about Kurt’s music is how to use it as an ATM machine when you completely fuck up and go broke

matt | 7/12/2007, 6:01 pm EST

I’m excited for this album. The Foos are one of the few bands who actually seem to get better and better

Courtney | 7/12/2007, 6:01 pm EST

Dave who? The name sounds familiar, but…oh wait, did he write all the songs on my last album? No? Oh well, whatever, never mind…

Trevor | 7/12/2007, 5:38 pm EST

NYC Nate, I agree man. I was never a huge Foo fan until I saw them tour with Weezer. Grohl’s stage presence and energy isn’t matched by many of today’s performers. He tells stories, sings his brains out and runs all over the place.

foo r a | 7/12/2007, 5:16 pm EST

I love the foos

NYC Nate | 7/12/2007, 4:55 pm EST

I’m really stoked for this record. This band amazes me. Nate Mendel has been one of my all-time favorite bassists since his days in Sunny Day Real Estate and Grohl isn’t just a great songwriter. He’s a great player. I’ve seen these guys five or six times over the course of the past decade and EVERY SINGLE SHOW was phenomenal from beginning to end. One of the few bands that really inspire me anymore.
