Simpsons Mania Strikes Mark Hoppus, Vermont, People Who Like Free Slurpees

7/11/07, 2:21 pm EST

simpsonsSimpsons fever has now reached +44’s Mark Hoppus. Last week, a dozen 7-Eleven stores around the country were remade into Kwik-E-Marts to promote July’s The Simpsons Movie. Hoppus visited the Los Angeles ‘Mart and excitedly reported his findings on his blog yesterday. “This was definitely the first time I have waited in line for 15 minutes to shop at a 7-Eleven and it was totally worth it,” he wrote alongside several photos of the store’s redecorated interior.

The bassist-singer also blogged about how he visited the movie’s official site to turn himself into a Simpsons-esque character when he realized … he had been a Simpsons-esque character (blink-182 was on the show in 2003 for the show’s 300th episode). “Six words. I got to say six words on The Simpsons, and it is one of the best things that has happened in my life,” he recalled.

In other news, Springfield, Vermont beat out 13 other Springfields nationwide to host The Simpsons‘ premiere on July 21, and you can nab a free Slurpee today at 7-Eleven stores across the country in honor of the chain’s 80th birthday.

The Simpsons is the best TV show ever. Too bad its going to be ruined by a movie.

Adam | 7/11/2007, 4:46 pm EST

You mean Squishie

kenneth | 7/11/2007, 6:57 pm EST

CaraElizabeth.

You’re being a bit pessimistic there. I heard some critics saw the 1st 20 min and they said it was pretty good. I’m actually looking forward to it

JayGee | 7/11/2007, 7:02 pm EST

Come on Cara! At least give it a chance and see it before you knock it.

kenneth | 7/11/2007, 7:02 pm EST

I think they have the original writers from the early years on this one, so it should be good, but I just cant stand the new Simpson’s over the past couple of years, its just dumb and not funny anymore, one more thing I might add is that once they stopped focusing on bart and started focusing on homer is when it lost its edge, because notice how all the early episodes was about bart and they were funny and creative, but now the focus is on homer and it sucks and unoriginal! don’t get me wrong I love homer, but I think it was just way better with bart as the main character… if anything this movie will bring back the old simpsons creativity and go back to its roots from where it all started…anyways I hope there will be another south park movie now that was funny!!!

Alexis | 7/12/2007, 12:33 am EST

Haha, I wish I lived near one.

ps. Mark is THE MAN. :D

Apu | 7/12/2007, 12:50 am EST

Why Vermont? Why not in Illinois where the series is based in??

EASY TARGET | 7/12/2007, 1:33 am EST

oh how i love my mark =]

Steven | 7/12/2007, 4:40 am EST

In no place at any time has it ever been mentioned that the Simpsons are from Springfield Illinois.

Why Vermont? Because Vermont is fucking awesome, that’s why. And we obviously have the most hardcore Simpsons fans because we totally whooped Illinois ass in the voting.

RP | 7/12/2007, 7:56 am EST

It isn’t based in Illinois.

Lisa | 7/12/2007, 8:00 am EST

hahah Canada doesnt have 7-11’s I dont think!

MARK HOPPUS IS GOD

Doh! | 7/12/2007, 9:45 am EST

Ok, you obviously don’t get the joke. Some Simpsons fan you are. They have never EVER said which Springfield the show takes place in. That’s the running joke. There are even occasional tounge-in-cheek jokes about never revealing that. There are so many Springfields in this country, that’s why it’s funny.

Mary | 7/12/2007, 10:00 am EST

Just for any geek-a-zoids who are interetsed, in the episode where the do a take off of “Behind-The Music”, the narrator refers to the Simpsons as a northern Kentucky family. How I remembered that I have no idea, but I’m 99% sure it in there. If I was more motivated I’d verify but, like Homer, I need a doughnut and a nap.

Alex | 7/12/2007, 4:27 pm EST

mark is so sexxxxy LOLthat store is so lucky LOL

lisa is stupid | 7/12/2007, 10:30 pm EST

Steven | 7/13/2007, 1:49 am EST

PS: Nobody has mentioned this but Matt Groening grew up in a little place called Springfield, Oregon…

Steven | 7/13/2007, 1:52 am EST

Oh, and DOH! you jerkoff, I know they never mention which Springfield it’s in, I was talking to the guy who made the comment below me (APU) who thought it was based in Illinois. That’s why I said it’s never been mentioned you idiot.

entranced.unicorn | 7/13/2007, 2:40 am EST

gee. I can’t wait for the movie. and the fact that it;s practically backed up by mark hoppus makes the deal even sweeter.

anonymous | 7/13/2007, 4:47 pm EST

1) The Simpsons “Behind The Laughter” DID say that they were a “northern Kentuky family”; however in syndication sometimes a different state is named. For the life of me, I can’t remember which one.

2) I have high hopes for the movie. I’ve heard it’s set up like 3 episodes back-to-back – the first part is hilarious, the second part drags a bit, and the third is hilarious as well. So that sounds pretty good.

3) It’s gonna be PG-13, which means they can say “fuck” once. I really, really, REALLY hope they do. But who? Homer? Bart? Mr. Burns? I’m torn.

Conor | 7/14/2007, 1:13 am EST

continuing with what the post below says, the town of springfield oregon, groening’s hometown, is the inspiration, as many of the characters are named after street names and landmarks in the town.

Amy Obvious | 7/17/2007, 1:30 am EST

gahh Mark is so frickin cute.

I wish I could go to one of the 7 11’s

I am one of 200 volunteers who appeared in the winning Springfield Vermont video. After we helped our local Chamber of Commerce win the contest, they turned their backs on us. We should have been the first in town to be receive invitations to the world premiere but the elite in town were awarded our seats instead. And then not even a word of thanks or mention of us in the public ceremony outside the theater! Read more and view our famous winning video on our new website:
