Courtney Love Debuts New Songs at London Gig

7/10/07, 9:18 am EST

Courtney Love played an intimate gig in London last night to celebrate her 43rd birthday at which she introduced her new band and debuted material from her upcoming Nobody’s Daughter. Love’s band, which now includes former Larrikin Love guitarist Micko Larkin, helped her play 11 tracks from the Linda Perry-produced Daughter. In addition to new songs like “Never Go Hungry Again” (which Love shared with RS staffers in the fall), the set featured classic Hole tracks like “Doll Parts” and “Celebrity Skin.” Tickets reportedly sold out in less than ten minutes and fans lined up outside Bush Hall starting at 10 AM, but it appears the show will be the first of many: A note on Love’s Web site instructs fans to join her mailing list for a chance to see her live in July.

The always-outspoken Love also took the opportunity last night to complain about the U.K.’s new smoking ban, saying, “The only place I can smoke in England is the House of Parliament. How retarded is that?” Maybe she’s been quelling her nicotine habit with some gum. Full set list after the jump.
“Samantha”
“Malibu”
“Stand Up Motherfucker”
“Sunset Marquis”
“Miss World”
“Nobody’s Daughter”
“Pacific Coast Highway”
“Doll Parts”
“Letter To God”
“Dirty Girls”
“Celebrity Skin”
“Never Go Hungry Again”
“For Once In Your Life”
“Loserdust”
“Northern Star”
“Happy Ending Story”

Notice how there`s still no release date for courtney`s comeback CD. Seems there still having difficulty finding a label willing to distribute it.Courtney`s show sold out in 10 minutes?,the place must`ve had a seating capacity of 100.

Well, you can never break through a music blogger’s cynicism. But the same bloggers are always bashing on women. Courtney can come up with some pretty awesome lyrics and tunes. Don’t try to rob her of that.

I’m so tired of hearing people complain about her. I think her music is wonderful and I am really excited about her new album. I mean Rollingstone is doing the job of providing people with news about music. People who dislike her simply can just move to another article. It’s not that hard. On a side note, I really really like the new Smashing Pumpkin’s album.

Ugh.

She’s just like Paris Hilton and Ashlee Simpson, two more pieces of the media-driven machine. Like Hilton and Simpson, she’s grossly overpraised, grossly overpaid and, well, just plain gross. Love is truly overrated. Only here in the USA can a person like Love be such a big star. It’s a sad day indeed.

Ugh. She’s exactly like Paris Hilton and Ashlee Simpson - grossly overpraised, grossly overpaid and, well, just gross.
Truly overrated. Why Courtney Love continues to be a star here in America is baffling and sad. Truly sad.

Is this really news, or if it is, does it deserve to be a headline?

Rollingstone = joke.

love it. | 7/10/2007, 12:14 pm EST

I miss the pictures of her eating food and barfing on Kurt. She was looking hot for a while. Way to go girl. She only eats the crutons at the salad bar. :)

midevil | 7/10/2007, 11:31 am EST

I’m a fan, but man, chick’s gotta put some weight back on. Girl’s lookin’ a little too skinny.

We have this big ageism bullshit in our culture, eh, where musicians are supposed to disappear once they get past that “fresh” look. People whine, but as long as they can still put on a good show that pleases the fans–well, in all truth, I’ll go see Ozzy when he’s in a fuckin’ wheel chair, jus’ ’cause it’s Ozzy.

Bill Bones | 7/10/2007, 11:31 am EST

this record will be great, courtney rocks.

cota | 7/10/2007, 11:17 am EST

Even though she has been “sucking” musically over the last many years, I am oddley (sp?) intrigued by this crazy gal. Many years ago when she was with Kurt, I had thought that she and her band Hole were actually pretty damned fun. I can only wish that she puts out a good album (and suprise us all). You go, girl.!!!!

mamarox | 7/10/2007, 11:01 am EST

Why is it that 65 year old male rockers seldom get slagged for their age (or their grandfather-hood), but women can’t rock past 30? Love her or hate her, Courtney’s at least putting it out there. Women don’t dry up and die when they turn 40!

Crista | 7/10/2007, 10:24 am EST

Courtney Ruuules
I miss Kurt Cobain
But that ok all happens for a Reason

I’ll be the First in line
And No I am Not a Critic

Rock on Sister

saylor828 | 7/10/2007, 10:18 am EST

With Kurt long dead and Billy now back with the Pumpkins, who’s writing her songs now? Seriously, she needs to give up on any chance of maintaining any music career. Just stick to ruining the legacy of your husband and Nirvana by continuing to sell them out. Oh, I love hearing Breed on playstation 2 sports games. Thanks Courtney!

mikeky | 7/10/2007, 10:11 am EST

she looks like she just got off a crack bender. and also looks like her grandmother. ick.

Stuporfly | 7/10/2007, 10:10 am EST

43? In dog years, maybe. She looks like a Cornish game hen someone let sit in the sun by the side of a heavily used rail line.

Please stop hyping this wretched slag. The only people who bought her last album were overheated critics who couldn’t secure a promo copy. Even with the hand-holding of gawdarful (s)hitmaker Linda Perry, Love’s music will forever remain an irritating afterthought in a train wreck of a life.

If you stop giving her attention, maybe she’ll spare the Rolling Stone “staffers” the next time she slithers out from under her rock with a ration of unwanted toonz.

abandonedstation | 7/10/2007, 10:04 am EST

RS is always pushing this special gal. I think she’s definitely underrated and underappreciated, and she certainly didn’t kill Kurt (blows my mind how many people believe that), but she’s a tough person to like…even as music fan.
