Foo Fighters Roar Back Into the Spotlight With New LP, Anniversary Re-Release

7/9/07, 11:14 am EST

Foo FighersAccording to Rolling Stone’s Austin Scaggs, Foo Fighters were the undeniable highlight of Live Earth London, and though the band was certainly there to raise awareness about global warming, they wisely seized the weekend’s internationally telecast moment to announce to the world that they are back. We’re going to be hearing a lot from the Foos in the next few months: Tomorrow the band will re-release its smash album The Colour and the Shape in honor of the record’s tenth anniversary, and their forthcoming sixth album, Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace, now has a September 25 release date. Echoes was produced by Gil Norton, and Dave Grohl has described it as a mix between Steely Dan and NoMeansNo. Check out the tracklist after the jump:

“The Pretender”
“Let It Die”
“Erase Replace”
“Long Road to Ruin”
“Come Alive”
“Stranger Things Have Happened”
“Cheer Up Boys, Your Makeup Is Running”
“Summer’s End”
“The Ballad of the Beaconsfield Miners”
“Statues”
“But Honestly”
“Home”

Hmm, I wonder if “Cheer up boys, your makeup is running” is a dig at the current emo scene. Could be interesting.

who cares? | 7/9/2007, 12:17 pm EST

Not me. The foo fighters have gradually been moving downhill for yeasr now. I personally hated the last album…sounded way too corporate for my tastes.

If they want to sell out to the man whatever, but I have stopped paying attention and supporting them.

Rusty | 7/9/2007, 12:19 pm EST

I love these guys.

jungleland | 7/9/2007, 12:26 pm EST

They kicked ass at Live Earth

jj | 7/9/2007, 12:34 pm EST

these guys may not be at their peaks but their still pretty good. ill get the album

Marc | 7/9/2007, 1:03 pm EST

My favorite was “There is nothing left to lose”. As long as they dont come out with another “one by one”, Ill be happy. Ill still buy it regardless cause there my favorite band regardless but I think this ones gonna rock!

scuubes | 7/9/2007, 1:48 pm EST

dave grohl is a god. everyone must bow.

LongLiveRock | 7/9/2007, 2:12 pm EST

The Foo Fighters are great. I like them 100 times more than I ever did Nirvana. Rock and Roll is supposed to be fun, right? Who has more fun than Dave Grohl? I can’t wait for Sept. 25 and the new disc.

saylor828 | 7/9/2007, 2:17 pm EST

They truly are one of the best rock bands out there, and they’ve been doing it for nearly 12 years. This album shall rule

DEG | 7/9/2007, 2:44 pm EST

Foo fighters Best Rock band in the planet. September 25, can’t hardly wait.

frog | 7/9/2007, 2:59 pm EST

Grohl should have perminantly joined QOTSA. I love the Foos but their albums never live up to the hype.

Krist Novoselic | 7/9/2007, 2:59 pm EST

Obviously,Courtney was right when she said Kurt was lone talent in Nirvana and Dave and me have no musical ability whatsoever. She’s a remarkably perceptive person.

July | 7/9/2007, 3:04 pm EST

I’ve never found the Foo Fighters to be particularly ground breaking or anything beyond a safe, commercial and radio friendly band. I dont doubt that Grohl can play a lot of instruments, but he sure doesnt challenge anyone’s beliefs.

joe wade | 7/9/2007, 3:08 pm EST

i was just thinking while i read the RS live earth coverage that the foo were more than due for a new album! im a huge fan so this is BIG news for me….can’t wait for september 25th!!!

abandonedstation | 7/9/2007, 3:46 pm EST

the foos are okay. their first two albums are wonderful third-wave grunge, but after that they didn’t do anything for me.

James | 7/9/2007, 3:46 pm EST

I like the Foo Fighters, but I buy their albums and listen to the a couple of times and then that’s it. I think they are one of the best live acts around.

OK...... | 7/9/2007, 3:56 pm EST

So maybe the Foo fighters aren’t at the “top of their game”. They still are one of the BEST things out there right now. In a society that is consumed with stupid pop and rap, the Foo Fighters are a definite breath of fresh air.

Jason | 7/9/2007, 4:14 pm EST

The FF’s last two albums really lack the nuance and melodic sensibilities of The Colour and the Shape and There Is Nothing Left to Lose. With In Your Honor especially (the first disc anyway), Dave Grohl was so hellbent on rocking–lots of distorted guitars and screaming–that most of the songs wound up downright bad.

Anonymous | 7/9/2007, 4:32 pm EST

The Foo Fighters never went away…what’s the deal with saying “They’re back” The “Skin and Bones” CD/DVD came out this year! Looking forward to the new CD.

Mike | 7/9/2007, 5:38 pm EST

FF is one of the best true rock bands of the last 15 years! Courtney Love sucks!

Coxy | 7/9/2007, 5:51 pm EST

You can tell he just lives to rock…puts all into in.
They played a huge set and had the crowd going isnt thats what is about ?

kristen | 7/9/2007, 6:08 pm EST

all hail king david!

Tom | 7/9/2007, 9:10 pm EST

LongLiveRock, your arrogance and simpleminded approach in thinking about music is why alt music sucks today. Not Foo Fighters, but to place that logic to obliterate Nirvana’s obvious superiority is insane. Go listen to Panic!, they seem to have good fun with their eyeliner.

Jeff | 7/9/2007, 9:15 pm EST

Hope it is a jab at those emo idiots, they’re ruining alt and turning it into a prissy, unoriginal joke.

Jim | 7/10/2007, 12:34 am EST

Foo Fighters never went away.
Skin and Bones? A 2-cd In Your Honor?
Grohl and co. have been pretty prolific. Bridge Concert highlight. Don’t call it a comeback.

Concert Junkie | 7/10/2007, 2:11 am EST

Damn what a long title to the new cd…is that really necessary?

n | 7/10/2007, 3:17 am EST

is anyone sick of the FF-music made to accompany montages yet? dave needs to dust of the kit and just be a journeyman, getting crap bands airplay. im sure kurt is embarrassed by dave and all his cookie-cutter followers.

SHOUT OUT-Ryan Adams, Easy Tiger, charting #7 without Clearchannel’s help.

Cheesecrop | 7/10/2007, 6:43 am EST

The Foos were great over the weekend. All bands misfire every now and then, but what matters is whether the majority of their songs are good. That tends to be the case with most of the Foo Fighters work, enough so that you can overlook the duds for the most part.

hey jeff! | 7/10/2007, 9:52 am EST

“Hope it is a jab at those emo idiots, they’re ruining alt and turning it into a prissy, unoriginal joke.”

What? I agree that emo sucks and is definitely unoriginal, but it is surely not alternative. For that matter, neither are the Foos. Both are MAINSTREAM. And yeah, the foos, even though I personally don’t like them, are definitely WAY better than emo, but get your terms right.

Anything mainstream is not alternative by definition.

Ceejaye | 7/10/2007, 11:03 am EST

What mo can the Foos give? They gave the Beaconsfield Miners a reason to live, they stole the show @ Live Earth- Come Sept 25, shut haters…Dave Grohl rules need I say mo….

Ohbeer | 7/10/2007, 11:05 am EST

If you’ve ever seen them live you know they are not fading away…They put on a classic Arena rock show(lasers and all). I would see them everyweek if I could, and can’t wait for the new album.

Ceejaye | 7/10/2007, 11:22 am EST

Now lets be frank, who stole the show @ the Live Earth = FF, Who gave the Beaconsfield Miners a reason to live = FF, Who’s keeping rock alive = FF…Dave Grohl is the rock God – Need I say mo?…I didn’t think so!!!

Russell | 7/10/2007, 11:27 am EST

Why just a rerelease of “Colour & The Shape”. Did he forget he had a great first album with alot of good b-sides as well? I think it’s time for the celebrated obigilatory punk covers record.

paco chaos | 7/10/2007, 1:18 pm EST

I thought the Foo Fighters sounded a bit weak at the Live Earth thing. I’ve seen them do better shows.
but, I’m always glad to see them doing new stuff!

cota | 7/10/2007, 1:29 pm EST

And to you all who trash Dave, how many rock bands do you belong to?? How many hits (or misses) have you made. How many concerts have you preformed? ,,,,,,yup, zilch!!!

n | 7/11/2007, 1:36 am EST

Brook & he doesn't know it yet | 7/14/2007, 9:43 pm EST

I have loved Dave and the Foos for years. Can’t wait for the next album because it seems that he can do no wrong. It’s like he matures for each album and sheds his Nirvana skin, but i’m not gonna lie, i love it. Probot was awesome too- I love the heavy shit. It makes me feel like a big bag of happy.
Rock on Dave. Then, get divorced so we can finally be 2gthr. :}
