Exclusive Video: Ben Harper’s “In The Colors”

7/9/07, 5:35 pm EST

Now that you’ve got the scoop on Ben Harper’s upcoming album, see the singer-guitarist in action. Here’s the video for “In the Colors,” the first single from Lifeline, due August 28. This song finds the suddenly profilic Harper — just last year he released the double-CD Both Sides of the Gun — back in “Steal My Kisses” form. Though the practice-room video motif has been done a thousand times, the bright natural lighting works well with the sunny, laid-back vibe of the track. Check it out.

I saw BEN HARPER & Co. on Austin City Limits around 2003 and they blew me away with their unique blend of sounds from nearly the entire music spectrum. I’d seen his albums at retail, but had no idea who and what he was about musically. What a GREAT artist! I immediately went out and bought that mini-box set featuring the first three albums and all the rest as they have been issued. HARPER is an incredible artist and talent, quite the entertaining lyricist, & not to be missed. 2006’s BOTH SIDES OF THE GUN is a brilliantly conceived and executed tour-de-force which should have been nominated for Grammy Album Of The Year. Can’t wait for BEN HARPER’s next album!

Ben Harper has been playing since the early 90’s, and with each new album he opens himself and his audience up to new genres and instrumentation techniques. Start with his early stuff and work your way forward- he’s one of the few musicians who still creates the “total album”, and he’s one of the best musicians in the world.

Ray | 7/10/2007, 2:56 am EST

Ben Harper is the greatest song writer of our generation. And probably the most technically skilled musician as well. For anyone who disagrees with me, just listen to his entire catologue and im sure you wont feel that way anymore.

andrew | 7/10/2007, 3:17 am EST

Ben harper is right up their with the greats of the past. With the differents styles that he has reached for in his music and achieved to a great extent. This song and album will be another stepping stone for him and his fans in his journey through this crazy world.

Ben Harper creates such wonderful music and I’m so thankful that I started listening to him. I saw him live recently for the first time. If you ever get the chance I recommend you see him & the band, you will not be disappointed!

Jolly good song, kinda chilled out. It does sound a bit like a track from Both Sides of the Gun, not quite like the songs from Ben’s first albums, but hey, it seems as if he’s moving in a different direction so i’ll stick with that even though I’d love to hear something similar to his first works

dom | 7/10/2007, 7:53 pm EST

this cat is beyond the real deal.

Amazing offering again from Ben. There is no other artist who delivers such diversity in there sound. From the reggae infused ‘Jah Work’ to the southern sound of ‘Get it like you like it’ you get a great feel of what Ben classes as pure music. On this track you can hear elements of Soul, possibly Marvyn or Curtis. I am in total agreement of his approach as to how it should be done. Too many artists these days are wrapped up in style and fashion. Ben focuses on the music first, because he’s a real musician, he just so happens to look ‘pretty fresh’ at the same time!!!

Peace.

Ben Harper is amazing because his music and his voice enter under your skin and get you high.

sonya | 7/11/2007, 12:41 pm EST

It just doesnt get better than this!

JP in AZ | 7/11/2007, 2:52 pm EST

I’m really anticipating the new album. I can’t get enough of Ben. He is the premiere musical artist of our generation. His music transcneds classification. If his music doesn’t touch you, your heart is not open enough.

mikl11 | 7/11/2007, 5:16 pm EST

je suis francais et j’ai vu ben harper a lyon en octobre et c’etait vraiment super. c’est le plus grand de sa categorie

frank/seattle | 7/11/2007, 9:36 pm EST

Someone gave me tickets to a Ben Harper show on the Pier in 97 or 98. I went, never having heard a tune of his..and was completely blown away. I have been a huge fan ever since. He honors his roots while staying true to his voice and his soul – and continues evolving his sound and his skills. Ben is the kind of artist we cherish as there is all too little of this in the music world of today.

Vitor Stefano | 7/13/2007, 7:37 am EST

mais uma vez sensacional!
o show em São Paulo, no Brasil em janeiro deste ano.

Aguardando que a magia de BHIC de volta ao país…

Wunderbar,wunderbar !
This album promises to be another heartwarmer, yet conscious of all the world around us.
Let’s all petition that somehow a DVD of his Bonnaroo performance is published, that I only had a chance to watch on internet stream.

Following Ben and his music since 1994 I am always blown away by every tune and I am so thankful that he did not do “the Kravitz” after his first two albums (remember what has become of Lenny Kravitz after two kick-ass releases… it is so sad…).

BUT – his second album will forever be the best piece of music available in our generation. Not even Ben himself will be able to top that. But please do keep trying Ben ;o) it is still way ahead of all the others and brings light into our lives every day.

Marcel (thankful)

This looks and sounds like another amazing album. They spent 7 days in Paris together creating this and I’m so looking forward to experiencing it all. I’m also looking forward to their the show in November! Peace!

Frédéric / Luxembourg / Europe | 7/22/2007, 6:55 pm EST

Back in ‘95 a good friend of mine told me to listen to the music of Ben Harper and he assured me, Ben and the IC’s would become by far my favourite band. He was so rhight and guys I love you for what you do!! I’ve seen 5 live shows since and I hope and wish you will come over to Europe with your new album too! The last show I saw was in Amnéville /France and it was absolutely amazing!Unfortunately I will have to wait another 37 days for the new album but I’m sure my patience will be rewarded!

It’s amazing how the BHIC can speak so effectively into a heart and yet mirror that musical soul-ness of humanity. This is the first song I have heard from his new album… really I feel like like it’s christmas coming early with the arrival of a new album.

MERCI 1000 fois. GOD BLESSED YOU
