Snoop Dogg Vs. Australia, Round 2: The Quest for Citizenship

7/5/07, 1:40 pm EST

snoop doggIn early May, after Snoop missed the Australian MTV Awards because he failed to pass some kind of immigration character test, his lawyers released a statement exalting Snoop’s excellent morals and “message of peace.” We should have known this was only the beginning of the Snoop Dogg vs. Australia battle. The rapper’s latest move is to file for Australian citizenship. In a series of videos on MTV Australia’s Web site, the rapper argues his case surrounded by blonde, tanned women, and encourages fans to sign a petition supporting his quest for citizenship. Our favorite video features Snoop’s shark of an immigration lawyer arguing with mock resentfulness that Snoop is in fact a good societal influence in between shots of Snoop hanging out on a topless beach. “The fuck is a meat pie?” the rapper asks a pair of nearly naked women after he’s handed one. “I got a meat pie too that I want you all to try later.” Classy.

...and i dont care | 7/5/2007, 1:54 pm EST

wheres this nonsense coming from about americans not aware of pies containing meat? Ever heard of chicken pot pie? We eat that stuff up. Aaaarg! At least pick a national stereotype that makes some sense. A joke about the imperial system of measurement perhaps.

abandonedstation | 7/5/2007, 3:13 pm EST

What’s the problem? Aussies are all descendents of criminals anyway.

trollgoal | 7/5/2007, 4:56 pm EST

good for snoop…america sucks anyway…can’t believe how expensive liberty and freedom are…and health care too…get out while you can before they close the borders like e.germany…we wil really be prisoners of slavery…

Funky Monkey | 7/5/2007, 5:03 pm EST

Man, Australia is harder to get into than a woman’s panties. Canada, the US and the UK are hard enough. Australian immigration doesn’t except you unless you have freakish skills or qualifications. Let snoop in, He’ll clean up the notorious gang culture over there….oh wait, is that New Zealand?

...get the flag right boys! | 7/5/2007, 5:42 pm EST

then I’ll listen.

Andrew | 7/5/2007, 11:26 pm EST

abandonedstation, I think you would find that only a small minority of Aussies are descendents of criminals. The majority of the population are first or second generation Aussies. Nice try though.

Adam MacLeod | 7/5/2007, 11:37 pm EST

I’m an Aussie and I’ve signed the petition. Good luck Snoop.

However, if I had the same track record as Snoop, I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t let me into the States.

dev | 7/6/2007, 1:20 am EST

i’m living in Oz, the less rappers the better!! rock n roll!!

Sorry Mate | 7/6/2007, 1:10 pm EST

…and then Snoop pounced like a kangaroo on her vegemite sandwich, doggy-style.

lost | 7/6/2007, 11:46 pm EST

wtf? this has to b a joke

Adam | 7/7/2007, 1:20 am EST

i reckon its rubbish, if he wants to live here in Australia he should be able to, and he should definitly have been able to come for at least the MTV Australia Awards.

Keep Snoop out | 7/8/2007, 12:59 am EST

Last thing we need is a bad influence like him that has a history of drugs, gang violence and guns. We have enough ‘wannabe gangsta’ losers around this will encourage him. He’s ads on MTV are disgusting. I’m ashamed with MTV supporting snoop. Trust me, him staying out of Australia is a good thing. So don’t sign the petition.

Professor Katt | 7/8/2007, 12:11 pm EST

I am a Long Beach, California native, as is Mr. Dogg. I’m retiring to a place far away from this ‘hood’. The gangsta/thugg/
homie/pimp/dop e-a-rope mentality has finally and totally ruined this as a place for real people to live anymore.

Mr. Dogg has assisted it to be as such. (Example: ‘respect’ now really means FEAR ME)

Sexist/racist/homophobi c/degeneratehateful/spiteful/b oastful/arrogant/self-centered ‘lyrics’ are helping America degenerate into a Hellish
Hip-Hop World. Just come to Long Beach, ‘the Intrnational City’ and see for yourself if you dare. No, please don’t; you will regret it.

Mr. Dogg is a felon; yet, somehow he skips jail–Like Rodney King. I believe the worst he’s ever gotten was 800 hours of ‘community service’. An admitted pimp, a drug dealer, woman-bashing,street-punk-gang sta’, violent creature, this Mr. Dogg.

Look, if you Aussies want him, I ask one favor–Please keep him!!!

Mr. Dogg is NOT about love.

LET HIM IN!

tobEE | 7/14/2007, 3:10 am EST

snoop is the living legend of rap. any country that doesn’t let him in is insane. How could australia deny him entry. what could possibly be the reason for not letting him in. He’s a GREAT performer and artist and australia is just missing out by not allowing him in. it is obvious that the public their love him so maybe the government should listen to the people – if it is a democracy they should let him in. PEOPLE POWER can do it. GO SNOOP – YOU ROCK!!!WE’RE BEHIND YOU ALL THE WAY

GREG LAVIANNI | 7/14/2007, 4:36 am EST

KEEP HIM AWAY!!!! | 7/17/2007, 4:56 am EST

I don’t like Howard, but his governments decision to keep Snoop Dogg out is a great idea. For one he has no skills to speak of; he is not a musician, he is a gangster. I’m not sure how he makes money producing the stuff that he does, but then again I guess people are generally becoming more idiotic: just watch the movie Idiocracy. Anyway as one of the above posts mentioned he is not about love. He is about everything but and I for one do not want another idiot in my country (or really in the world for that matter, but there is no helping this one unfortunately).

Raymond | 7/17/2007, 8:05 am EST

Hey SNOOP! We all love you here in Australia. We want you to move here. Me and my friends would watch you perform all the time. I have all your albums as well. Gin and Juice is my all time favourite. You are the best Snoop. Everyone in my hood wants you to move here. We’ll have a new government here soon and they will let you in for sure.

pEACE.

Robert H Stanford | 7/19/2007, 10:55 am EST

I saw the ads for MTV with Snoop and I thought they were really funny. I ended up really liking Snoop after seeing the ads. He’s a fun loving guy with a great sense of humour which really came through in the ads. Why shouldn’t he be allowed into Australia? It’s such a silly decision on the part of the Australian government. It’s obvious the kids love him. Let him in I say.
Bob

Candy | 7/20/2007, 7:59 pm EST

"'joseph'"""""McA""""""" | 7/22/2007, 10:32 am EST

Snoop has every right to travel anywhere. I don’t get how Australia can stop him from entering? What’s he done wrong? What reason could they have for not letting the number ONE (1) Rap Artist into the country. It’s nonsense – they are just stopping all of the many fans from seeing Snoop Dogg and that’s Dumb and out of touch. Good on MTV for helping tha Dogg and creating such a smart and funny campaign. Makes Snoop the hero and makes the decision not to let him in even more STUPID! Big time. Don’t worry Snoop – they can’t keep you out because you are loved by the people there. Including me.

snoop hater | 2/8/2009, 4:45 am EST

i dont think that rap should even be classed as music, i mean who would listen to that, when rock n roll has produced albums like “born to run”, “darkness on the edge of town”, and bat out of hell, i mean who on that is still sane could possibly listen to such shit, im 14, and even i realise that people such as snoop dogg have killed rock n roll, and good music, possibly forever, i live in australia, and i think that this country has enough wankers already, lets alone a disgrace to black culture such as snoop dogg, its rappers and gangsters like him that provide white people with such racism and bad steriotypes, black people should not have to suffer such attrocities, and neither should australians,

i say keep him out, just to stop the onslaught of such bad music
