A truly great preformer. His tune about Christmas was SUPER. I have heard no other preformer that sung so well. I will miss him, even though, I dont know this man I feel that his songs will live long, my heart will ALWAYS be with his music

Bill I’m really going to miss you. Your smile when we would see each other will be something that will remain in my heart forever. Your kindness has always been appreciated by the Foundation for the love of Rock & Roll. I wish you all the best on your new journey. Rest in peace, Jimmy

another great one passes. here in north carolina, the drifters and bill pinkney will always be fondly remembered by those of us who grew up to the great music we know here as beach music. you will hear bill’s music in beach clubs all over north and south carolina and although we will never see him perform live again, his recordings will live on forever. may god rest his soul.

Bill Pinkney brought joy to millions with his magical bass voice, and his warm personality. I wish we could bring him back, along with Clyde McPhatter, for one last show. Goodbye, wonderful man!

It’s sad that even in death ignorance rears it’s ugly head, white stripes fan is obviously without any morals or respect for others… Mr. Pinkney was a pioneer and truely blessed with vocal talent, may he rest in peace for all eternity!

I will always remember when Bill and the Drifters came to Kansas City. It was a fun time, a great show and many fond memories. Rest in Peace Bill and I know you and Clyde are singing with the angels and all the wonderful singers who passed before you.

Having known Bill at a personal level since the late 60’s, I know that all who knew him will sorely misss this great talent. Back in the day, Bill would never fail to phone me in advance when he was going to be performing in Birmingham, AL. I would meet him at the club, and we would have drinks and reminisce about the great sound of the fifties and 60’s. Rock on, Bill.

The comments from the imbeciles are pretty much expected here…they have no life apparently except to scream for attention. What’s really nice is the number of folks who have respect for the music of the Drifters on here. Unexpected and refreshing…thanks guys. You restored my faith. The Drifters were one of the great original groups…real class. Unlike some of the comments below.

Mr. Bill was a class act, a gentleman and a true pioneer in the music industry. My best memory is him singing White Christmas to me on the phone just before Christmas 2001. Those rude underlings who said “Who?” should remember that whoever YOUR idol is, they crawled over the backs of good, TALENTED folks like Bill Pinkney to get their break in the industry. He earned repect and will be sorely missed. RIP, Bill.

I enjoy the Drifters 100% of the time.

clint | 7/6/2007, 12:50 am EST

is unfortunate that he was called to glory b4 he was able to do what he loved, the drifter’s brought magic at a time it was needed and there music has stood the test of time, a suggestion to the unknowing. before u make usless comment’s u might wanna do something simple such as google and the info is there for u to know otherwise why bother, to put something as unthoughtfull as you did. REST IN PEACE SIR, it was an honor to have experianced the drifter’s music.

Man, I had forgotten how cruel and dismissive 8th graders could be until I saw the “Who?” entry. Hope you grow up one day. If you don’t at least there’s the hope that you won’t breed. Rest in peace Mr. Pinkney.

shmoe | 7/5/2007, 11:39 pm EST

Wow, that “Who? Never heard of him or them” guy seems to be a mean little dimissive prick. Then again, most 8th graders are. Hope he grows up. If he doesn’t at least there’s the hope that he won’t reproduce.

RIP rocker | 7/5/2007, 8:09 pm EST

Perhaps it was for the best, your kind isnt understood by the legions of fans of todays ‘music’. Rest in Peace rocker.

Bobby Lee | 7/5/2007, 7:39 pm EST

Bill: You are missed by true fans of Rock and Roll. I apologize to you for the rude and insensitive comments made by some of the other posters on here. May you rest in peace and may you enjoy your spot in that ultimate rock band in heaven!

Who? | 7/5/2007, 6:46 pm EST

Never heard of him or them.

Wrong Crowd RS | 7/5/2007, 6:44 pm EST

Do you think the losers who buy White Stripes & High School Musical are gonna know much less care who this guy is?
