That whole Avril thing probably isn’t a rip-off. I don’t know why, but somehow I can’t really see her getting too deep into anything from the past that wasn’t total top 40 music in the first place. On the basis of sheer lack of ingenuity I think she’s off the hook here.

Well, no real surprise here, so many times in the past we have seen how people will react when an artist/musician becomes very successful. It’s is an ugly part of our human nature and in the music world professional jealousy or envy goes way back, Salieri had it for Mozart, etc. Great success breeds jealousy, envy and contempt. It is sad to see jealousy rearing its ugly green head when a fellow artist in a weak moment of character lashes out against those who are more successful than they are. Acts of jealousy to discredit, slander or profit from discrediting their fellow artist, rarely benefits the accuser and often backfires making themselves looking pretty awful.

With successes like these listed below its no wonder there is jealousy:

If there are similarities between Avril & the Rubinoos, it’s most likely just a coincidence. The Rubinoos didn’t exactly set the world on fire with any of their music, despite the hype they recieved at the time, as I recall – it’s possible the Rubinoos are still licking their wounds from the aftermath of no major success. The Rubinnos were more along the lines of “next up thing that never happened” and they soon faded from view.***B/t/w – did rock band America ever sue Janet Jackson’s producers for their note for note rip off of the America hit[1975]“Daisy Jane” which came in the Janet version of “Let’s Wait A While”? Am I the only one that noticed it on that one, or did Janet’s musical entourage acknowledge a ’sampling’?

Helllllooooo people, Disney channel creation! Hannah Montana is not a real girl and has no real talent! I am glad that Much Music doesn’t play crap like that. Avril writes her own songs and she has talent unlike Miley. Girlfriend is not a copy of the Rubinoos song.

Avril is well-known now as a repeat plagiarist. She settled the case with the Rubinoos. The Rubinoos’ problem was that their song was similar to “Get Off of my Cloud.” Moral of the story is – plagiarize from plagiarists, and you won’t look so bad. Also, have a “controversial” song and you’ll get MORE HITS on YouTube. Sure worked for Avril.

Janet Jackson blatantly ripped off of a large portion of America’s “Daisy Jane.” Shame on her. (And sad for those of us who thought the radio was playing Daisy Jane – only to find out it was Janet’s far lesser song.)

Joan Osborne’s studio version of “Just to be Alone” reminds me throughout of “Poor Side of Town.” However, in YouTube I only found a faster, jazzy live version and it’s quite different. (She probably changed it so much in ORDER for it not to sound so much like PSoT).

My entry here – “Creep” by Radiohead, which reminds me of “The Air That I Breathe” by the Hollies. Turns out that Radiohead mentioned the writers Hammond and Hazlewood in their liner credits. At least they admitted they were influenced by a song, (unlike others who deny they ever heard the other song, and/or deny there is any resemblance).
