Sir Elton John, Kanye West, Fergie Pay Tribute To Princess Diana

7/2/07, 9:18 am EST

Diana ConcertYesterday, on the Princess of Wales’ would-be 46th birthday, Princes William and Harry organized a tribute concert in their mother’s honor at London’s Wembley Stadium. The all-day affair (which carried on without incident despite the violence in the U.K. over the weekend) included performances by bands Princess Diana was a fan of (Duran Duran), artists she was friends with (Sir Elton John) and bands that are big today (Lily Allen, Fergie, Nelly Furtado). P. Diddy reprised 1997’s “I’ll Be Missing You,” while Tom Jones threw in a surprise cover of the Arctic Monkeys‘ “I Bet You Look Good On the Dancefloor” and Kanye West performed “Diamonds From Sierra Leone” at the Princes’ special request. Prince William ended the day by thanking everyone who participated, saying, “For us this has been the most perfect way to remember [Princess Diana], and this is how she would want to be remembered.”

Check out more photos from the tribute to Princess Diana concert.

Kanye West looked like a complete moron performing (and he “music” sounded even worse). Words are simply to limiting to decribe how horrific P Diddy was. These two should never be allowed near a stage ever again!!!!!

Question: Why are people like Kanye West, Snoopy Dog, Ludacris, etc performing at the Live Earth shows? All of these rappers emphasize materialism at its most extreme, pride themselves on their fleet of gas-guzzling vehicles, etc. Does anyone else not see the disconnect here?

Scott | 7/2/2007, 12:39 pm EST

I guarantee you that Kanye West will be appearing at Live Earth for one reason only: to promote himself (which he does very badly, but that’s beside the point). It’s sad that the Live Earth lineup couldn’t have been reserved to acts that might actually have an interest in the issue.

Did any body else see Williams buddy shout at him “What was that, he was sooo bad” after P. Diddy’s performance? Watch it again, it was hilarious.

Mister | 7/2/2007, 2:13 pm EST

I agree about Kanye and Diddy. Do people actually consider them hip or cool? Onstage they look like nerdy amateurs.

jungleland | 7/2/2007, 3:32 pm EST

Elton, Rod, Duran Duran were all very good. Lilly Alan was good (1st time I’ve heard her)I swear I had not heard Status Quo since Live Aid (and I think they did the same John Fogerty cover then too)I look forward to their show at the Concert to Remember The Earth By in 2206. Hope they do the Fogerty song again.

Diddy and Kanye (and NERD)were lame.

Think Biggie is in heaven pissed that Puffy made his song into a song about some white bitch??

Immigration girl | 7/2/2007, 4:42 pm EST

The show was great and Kanya West tore it up! His performance surprised me, after so many artists before him sang safely on stage that seemed to drown them. Kanye made that stage his and his songs were great!

Trevor | 7/2/2007, 7:44 pm EST

The song Status Quo did, was actually an original, and was a big hit for them in the early ’80s (or thereabouts)!

Bus Driver From A Far-Off Land | 7/2/2007, 8:26 pm EST

Some parts of it were pretty pathetic. P.Diddy or whatever he goes by now was way to over-the top. What posessed him to bring a choir and orchestra?

rba | 7/2/2007, 9:41 pm EST

princess diana hates black people

Martin | 7/3/2007, 1:22 am EST

Sean Combs (aka: P.Diddy, Diddy, Puff Daddy, Dumbarse Black Guy With Yet Another Stupid Monicker) was pathetic and irrelevant for the occasion. I’m suprised he even knew where the hell England was located, let alone who Princess Diana was.

However, his band and gospel choir did a great job and should’ve featured as a standalone act without Diddy’s annoying and clownish presence.

abc | 7/3/2007, 8:22 am EST

Kanye West and P Diddy were giving each other Rusty Trombones after the show.

Worst. Music. Ever.

Rick | 7/3/2007, 8:29 am EST

Excellent show. The feeling were real good as was Kanye West. P-Diddy stole the show with that song in my opinion. Great show to remember a great person.

Moe | 7/3/2007, 11:31 am EST

NOOO! Kayne is going to be at live earth?? I hope to hell they don’t televise his appearance!! He and Diddy were pathetic at the concert for Diana, especially Diddy, what a phony he is!! I wanted to puke.

Aberdeen | 7/3/2007, 12:14 pm EST

Diddy was obviously trying to create a moment of transcendant emotional power, but he instead looked and sounded like a retarded fool…”Princess Diana, we love you! William and Harry, we respect you!” ad nauseum. What a loser.

This Charming Manc | 7/4/2007, 4:52 pm EST

The whole thing was rubbish from start to end, total cheeseville!

Roger Hodgson, the versatile musician, invited to pay tribute to the life of Princess Diana with the song “Give A Little Bit”

Supertramp were one of Diana’s favourite bands!

refined musical tastes of course!

great enthusiasm! great emotion at the new Wembley Stadium!

….although his voice might not have been perfect because he is recovering from a bad flu and laryngitis!

I’m tired to see yet Supertramp framed like a world cult band! ( over 18 millions fans worlwide!!!! )

so we ( fans or not ) should persuade Roger to rejoin the band! the Rock music needs honest, serious and intelligent people like him!

John Doe | 7/9/2007, 1:42 pm EST

Diddy hurts the ears of his peers, and cuts the scalp of Brittany Spears…pass it on.

Evan | 8/31/2007, 10:48 am EST

Kanye West cant sing but Elton John can

Jo Mama | 9/22/2007, 10:51 am EST

isn’t it soo funny that even though everyone’s dissing Diddy & Kanye…they’re still being talked about which means you’re all helping to promote them. hate on bitches.
ps. IT IS the NEW millenium…open your minds people & start seeing beyond the color of a person’s skin

ebzt | 9/26/2007, 7:08 am EST
