First, let me just say that Carrie Underwood doesn’t deserve to be in the same sentence/question as Kelly Clarkson. Kelly is the only singer from that horrible talent show that is worth paying attention.

Listening to “My December” the past week, Kelly have no reason to change genres to be successful. It’s the best pop-rock album since Pat Benetar’s run of albums in the 80’s. However, I wouldn’t mind Kelly do a country or country-flavored album. I watched the “Crossroad” episode the other week and it was great. Anyone who like a great singer who are willing to take artistic risks will have no problem following Kelly Clarkson regardless of what she does in the future.

Starstruck Studios has clients that use the studio’s facilities who aren’t managed by Starstruck Entertainment — in fact, most of them aren’t. So I’m not sure the evidence is irrefutable that Kelly’s going country — but if she does, good for her. Kelly connects with her audiences like Carrie’s connected to hers. There’s plenty of room for both of them.

It’s a bit more obvious that Starstruck Entertainment will use KELLY CLARKSON’s explosive multi-media Pop-Rock-Soul superstar career to their advantage in gaining a heavier foot hold into the more lucrative rock field artists’ representation and management. Iconic KELLY is an important acquisition for them to wider success in the music industry. They achieved stratospheric success with Reba’s expansive career. CLARKSON is their best bet, and deservingly so. If KELLY decides to do a country-rock album, more power to her! Carrie Underwood is no threat, she lacks the vocal expertise CLARKSON is endowed with, she’s lacking musical & visual identity to begin with, though she’s had a fantastic streak of luck, but she’ll wane soon enough. KELLY CLARKSON is the ‘new Linda Ronstadt’ and she will most likely deliver an astoundingly eclectic music career in the years to come. Pat Benatar, on the other hand, enjoyed a fast blurred decade of popularity in which her music remained on the same wavelength and she was never recognised for much other than a mainstream rock artist. CLARKSON is gifted with a spectacular vocal instrument she’s learned to expertly use at full blown power or delicately, displaying all its textures and colors to full effect, much like Linda Ronstadt. CLARKSON’s “My December” album, without a doubt, is her finest and most fully realized.

It doesn’t really matter what genre Kelly Clarkson does.She can sing just about anything.Her new cd is her best work.Carrie Underwood is very talented too,but is no threat at all.

P/S. I agree with J.P., but, KELLY CLARKSON’s MY DECEMBER easily easily blows any Benatar album out of the water and into oblivion on every level. Looking back, and I do have the entire 80’s run of her albums/cds, acouple 90’s…Pat Benatar’s most cohesive album was probably her 1981 “Precious Time” – yet, her most radio friendly album was her 1980 “Crimes Of Passion”, where almost every track could’ve been a hit single. All of Pat’s albums after those two were uneven offerings which contained their respective moments here and there. I didn’t care for Kelly Clarkson at first, but, after the hit singles from her BREAKAWAY album began to saturate the airwaves and that incredible voice of hers was all over the radio, I melted and she won me over. I don’t watch “American Idol”, most of those ‘wanna be singers’ lack punch, integrety, and vocal ability…the exceptions being the vocally gifted CLARKSON and FANTASIA[I still don't have any of her stuff!]. MY DECEMBER has at least eight full fledged radio/chart mega-hit singles sitting on it, ten tracks being appropriate candidates. “ONE MINUTE” should be the third single – it will explode all over!

Pat Benatar had more Top 40 singles than any other female artist in the 80’s except Madonna (who beat her by one!). She also had 7 straight platinum albums. Kelly Clarkson is easily capable of acheiving the same but NOT with “My December”. The album is cliched with no hooks. Her saving grace is that she can genre hop and could find a country audience while still keeping a foot in the pop world. She just needs good material again.

Daniel Kreps fictional little essay is just more reason to discount almost everything you read in RS. You have to dig very deep to find an actual fact in Kreps musing – it’s pure conjecture. Clarkson’s decisions about music have ZERO to do with Carrie Underwood – Kreps connection of the 2 is just more Idol bashing and ridiculousness. It’s almost like racism – except Idol legacy being the black face being discriminated against.

Watch her sing Celine, Aretha, etc. In particular, watch her sing a song “Stuff like that there.” If that isn’t talent, then you must not know what talent is.

Being a true Kelly Clarkson fan, from day one, her first audition for AI, My December is a great album, like they say before, it rivals the likes of Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris, Janis Joplin, should I go on? Linda Ronstadt opened the door for Pat Benatar AND Ms. Madonna to be concert headliners. I see comparisons to ronstadt in clarkson.
It’s very hard to have consistent success. Ronstadt was the first woman in the rock era, or any era, to have consistent success, 8 straight platinum albums, and mega concerts….hard stuff and it wasn’t easy for her at the start and it wonn’t be easy for Kelly Clarkson but she has the talent and as we can see the support of the industry.

Hey, I am a fan of both of them, but I don’t think that country is Kelley’s thing. Carrie does great at it, but it just wouldn’t even be fair to compare a rock/pop singer with a country singer.

WOW, I’m always a liitle surprised ( and a little troubled ) by how people in general don’t go for something that’s a little bit more challenging than the average everyday buisness-as-usual type of bland/anonymous pop-rock… like Kelly Clarkson’s new album. I must admit, I was quick to throw her away into the rubbish bin I’ve long ago thrown Ashlee Simpson ( her at the start ), Michelle Branch, and Avril Lavigne into, but the fact is, Kelly’s different… she’s actually challenged herself on her new album, and though it’s a mixed batch, some great things HAVE peeked through this time round ( like the guitar riffs of “Hole” — pretty cool Kelly and team! And “Sober” is just gorgeous! ) …it just feels like she’s becoming more and more secure about herself, thus she’s slowly (and wisely) beginning to reveal her true identity in her music, and it would be such a shame if she did something that would somehow harm (reverse) this process, like, uh, let the industry take over, because then the whole deal would just turn into this senseless project like the Ashlee Simpson project, a project that, at it’s most horrid of sins, ripped off Hole’s “Celebrity Skin” and U2’s “Stay (Faraway, So Close)”, just to name a few — and it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that Kelly’s team would do exactly the same thing with her if they were given enough control — they’d steer her in that direction because they know it works (in favor of their bank accounts), because there have been examples set by other pop tarts, AND there have been example set by Kelly and team themselves on her second album, where they ripped off songs from such bands as the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs — and clearly this time around this is not something Kelly’s particularily interested in being part of… basically, what I’m saying, is that now it’s plain to see she has the potential (and the intellect) not to be (and to make) cliché, not to be faceless pop, and she should really take advantage of this, and keep being a “bitch” if that’s what it takes… let’s root for Kelly, peoples!!!! People actually new about her, when Breakaway came around. Plus Breakaway, was just that good. My December, in my opinion, is better then Breakaway. I hope that Kelly Clarkson isn’t switching and signing a deal with a management company that specializes in country just because she wants to retain her stardom, because I think that in that way she isn’t showing a single sign of professionalism rather strategy to “steal” fans from Carrie Underwood. I think it is a very normal reaction to question whether this move was done with the most genuine intention for Kelly to shift and try new things or was it meant to provide competition for Carrie. But in any case, the sales of singles and albums will prove the victor among two. There is seriously no point in arguing and paying lip service. Kelly is good friends with Reba and her husband will take good care of Kelly and that’s what Kelly needs – to be surrounded by GOOD people. Kelly plans on doing a few country-ISH songs on her next album but she’s not switching genres altogether. Kelly has stated she doesn’t want to do the same thing and always to expect different things from her.. so even if she did a few country songs – don’t expect it to be permanent. The girl can sing literally ANYTHING so I think it’s great she’s doing different things, she is such a breath of fresh air.

I don’t get why anyone cares so much. So long as they both have good voices, what do album sales really proove? Rihanna has done well and all her music is generic garbage and she can’t sing at all.

Screaming on pitch does not equal great singing ability. It equates to bad technique that will cause her to devlop vocal nodes and that kill her voice and end her career. I do think Clarkson can sing and has a wonderful voice – until she starts screaming that everyone seems to think demonstrates her “power” and “ability”. I also think she is a good song writer. She is a wonderful talent that is making some wrong choices.
Carrie on the other hand, sings with good techniques and knows how to control her voice. She is country and Kelly is rock – its like comparing apples and oranges. I have seen both live a number of times and Carrie has 10X better pitch accuracy than Kelly. To say that Carrie should not even be mentioned in the same sentence as Clarkson is rediculous. Carrie’s debut has sold the same amount as Clarkson’s huge Breakaway in the US – and is on pace to outsale. Clarkson has sold better worldwide because American Country Music is not as worldwide a genre as pop/rock.
At any rate, I hope Clarkson works well with her new management team and they give her a boost. I would hate to see her relationship with Reba go down the drain if something happens with this management team. She needs something to go right for her.

I love both of them but I think there’s no argument that Kelly is way better than Carrie. Carrie is very technical and I could barely see emotions in her singing while Kelly has always lived her music. She has dynamic and exciting vocals which is classically trained but not conventional in delivery. Carrie is somewhat generic and looks like a barbie doll and I hate to see “sanitized” artists. I want real music and that is what Kelly brings to the table. There is something about Kelly’s tone that engages you and conveys real emotion. And let’s not forget that Kelly is the ONLY idol that has broken away from that cheesy idol image. It’s even hard to believe that she came from that show.

Everyone must have forgotten Kelly did country back on Idol as well as sang w/Reba when that group of idols did Vegas. The whole country/Reba thing started in 2002 after she won if not before.

Carrie is a generic country singer. Kelly can do Tony Bennett specials, CMT specials, throw down some Ray Lamontagne or Annie Lennox or Aretha Franklin or Mariah Carey or Dionne Warwick or some Patty Griffin or….shall I go on?

Kelly has been my idol and will always be. She had a passion for music and despite all odds she became America’s idol. Her voice is beyond exquisite and she inspires me to pursue my love of music and singing. Kelly has so much talent that cannot be summed up in such few lines

Carrie will eventually outsell Kelly. The only reason Kelly has sold the most is because she has been around the longest.

Daughtry will probably end up outselling her too. Judging by her single’s sales, I don’t think that Jordin will sell very well, unless they give her EXTREMELY radio frindly songs.

If Carrie can stay humble I think she will have a long and successful career. As for Kelly, I think she will lose a lot of her tweenie and casual fans with this album.

You can’t just say someone’s a better singer than another and poof it’s fact across the board, it’s opinion! and one persons opinion does not make it so for everyone. There are many great women country singers alongside Carrie who is releasing her new album in October, Shania Twain is releasing an album next year, Faith Hill a greatest hits in the fall, Martina McBride, Sara Evans and more- and many up and coming wonderful and talented women on the horizon. If Kelly is doing a country album, that’s ok. No need for comparisons. Carrie will still be great and all the other country women will still be great. The country fans may or may not accept Kelly, it remains to be seen, but she will still have her Pop and rock fans. First, the country album and then, what did Kelly say? oh yes, a big band album I believe with all the old standards.

Never in a kazillion years will Kelly have the success in country as Carrie does. Kelly has problems with her voice, and tends to be raspy at times. She needs to listen to the smoothness of Carrie’s voice and learn from it…and for chrissake…QUIT YELLING!!!!

Kelly Clarkson sings rock,sometimes. That is the reason her voice is raspy sometimes. Sometimes she is sick, while performing, but I am glad her voice is raspy sometimes because it fits what she is singing. If anyone Carrie needs to take lessons from Kelly, and lose the accent. And who is yelling? If you were talking to me, I wasn’t. I was just emphasizing something.

Kelly Clarkson is way more versatile than Carrie Underwood. I love both their voices but Kelly’s has a quality to it that Carrie Underwood will never be able to achieve. That quality is the raspy tone. Look at classics like Janis Joplin. I think Kelly can vocally handle anything thrown at her.

I think everyone needs to drop the being fued between Kelly and Carrie..Everyone has their favorite between the two singers. I persoanlly like them both, but would pick Carrie any day. And Kelly has always expressed interests in being a diverse artist. Even before Carrie Underwood went on Idol, Kelly has said how she loves every genre of music and she plans on putting out albums that reflect that. And the whole country craze began before all the controversy. She and Reba dueted back when she first won, and she’s ALWAYS said that she loves country. So this isn’t a sudden change in direction to save her career like the author of this article is implying.

Ok, let’s get one thing straight: Kelly is not trying to “beat out” Carrie Underwood, because she doesn’t need to try. Kelly can clearly do whatever she wants and be successful. Maybe it’s true that going country would be a mistake, but if she wants to do it, she’ll obviously do it, and there’s no point in trying to tear her down for doing what she wants. She was not “force-fed” through the radio, because just look at the number of people who bought her album. Kelly is an individual who has broken away from the standards set by Idol, Carrie however has just fallen in deeper. While I agree that both are amazingly talented artists, Kelly has an edge that Carrie simply cannot match. Kelly is, and may well always be, the most successful Idol, for she has proved that you don’t have to be a teen pop singer to be successful on the radio and in the modern music industry.
Also, regarding the “tween” that beat Kelly’s album sales – she is popular because her dad is popular; she has absolutely no talent whatsoever.

We need more young people breaking into country music. In my opinion it is a lot easier to understand the lyrics of a southern song compared to the rapping (music and song) and I use those words carefully because the most I get out of rapping is the sound of someone trying to eat or spit on the microphone while holding onto their private areas, add a little acrobatics and you have talent? I would sit and listen to any type of music and I do mean talented music and song than the rapping. This type of so called talent got its name correct at least, rap, like wrap it up and destroy it.

Personally, I like both Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson. If I had to choose between them I will ALWAYS pick Carrie Underwood because I’m more of a country girl and a rocker chick. STOP the BS bashing! If a division exists between the two camps, it’s Underwood’s fault from the beginning. You may all recall that when Kelly Clarkson did not publicly thank American Idol up front at an awards show, there was a huge national ruckus about it, led by the resentful Simon Cowell, who went on the rampage against Clarkson in the media, despite the fact he now strongly supports Kelly and is most likely her #1 fan. People have a very short attention span, forget things quickly, and both artists have benefitted in the long run. Kelly Clarkson has become the media darling and the American public’s hero in the sense she has rallied against control of her career, fought, stood her ground for her creativity and integrety of her career against her record company and won. Underwood, on the other hand remains a music business puppet and the all too submissive, passive, controlled artist. Maybe she’ll break out of the mold and take control of her career at some point, before it’s too late.

Ok, let me first start of by saying that I love Carrie and Kelly but after hearing some of Kelly’s new songs from her new album, I really can’t seem to like many of them. Her Breakaway album was really good but her new one…I don’t know, I just feel bad because I’m like a fan of hers completly but this new music doesn’t get me, maybe it’s because a lot of the music seems bitter to me. I think if Kelly does move into the country genre that Carrie may still be more successful because Carrie is great at singing country. Yes, Kelly can sing anything but slow songs in country…don’t sound so great. Her duet with Rascall Flatts wasn’t good in my opinon but Carrie’s duet with him, WOW. I think songs that are more upbeat Kelly can sing it great such as her duet with Martina McBride in Does He Love You or even Why Haven’t I Heard From You. I just really wish the best for Kelly and I really hope to get a little back of what we got when she was on Idol…I’m sort of tired of the whole pop-rock thing…

I went to Shania’s concert in hyde Park in London England with 80,000 other fans and I went to her Chicago concert in Grant Park with 50,000 other fans and you could see young kids from age 8,9 and 10 mouthing the words to all of Shania’s huge hits like MAN I FEEL LIKE A WOMAN or THAT DON’T IMPRESS ME MUCH or HONEY I’M HOME or ANY MAN OF MINE or I’M GONNA GET YOU GOOD and so many other of her huge hits.
big and huge icon like Shania have fans of all ages who could relate to her music.
Maybe you should go and buy her Live in Chicago DVD and see what I mean and how she interacts with the kids on stage.

Both girls are extremely talented. Over the long haul, Underwood will surpass Clarkson because she has strong mental fortitude and seems to have some peace within. Kelly will have a harder road finding a comfort zone between artistry and marketability.

I love both Carrie and Kelly- they are both first class in every way- talent, personality, class, integrity, morals. I love kellys voice- and she can sing country decent (ie- the reba duet, Does He Love You)- but I prefer Kelly singing rock/pop songs. Just my personal preference. I think kelly fits better into rock/pop world, and Carrie fits better in the country/pop world. Don’t get me wrong- Carrie CAN sing ANYTHING too- she can sing rock and pop with the best of them- but her personality is so sweet and mild that she would be eaten alive in the more fake, ugly pop world. Carrie doesn’t like to dress trashy or dance provacatively- and that is what I love about her. Kelly is also a sweetheart, but she is edgier- and therefore can handle the rock/pop world better. Plus- kelly’s voice is better suited to rock/pop. She doesn’t sound country at all when she sings- where as carrie has just enough of an accent to make country sound legitimate. Carrie- however- ROCKS GUNS AND ROSES’ SWEET CHILD FO MINE- she performs it live, as well as Alone from Heart (she nails it) and a Skid Row Song– and she really excels when she does rock. I almost like it better then when she does country…LOL Anyway- bottom line- all this petty nasty bashing of carrie and/or kelly is ridiculous. KElly should stick to her rock/pop genre because country does not open the doors that easily or often for people who were first rock/pop- then “go country.” Carrie said she was country from day one- hence she was accepted by the country music industry right away.

To the carrie bashers here, calling her a one album wonder- I cannot wait until she proves you wrong- AGAIN- as she did on her debut album..You same bashers predicted it to flop big time- yet it is about to pass kelly’s breakaway in 2 more weeks…in US sales. Kelly still has the edge internationally- but Carrie is starting to do well overseas too. She is goint to tour Australia soon- and hopefully the UK as well. She is in Canada right now. So I predict Carrie’s 2nd album to debut at 400-500K, week one, and to eventually sell at least 3x platinum, hopefully more- depending on the quality of the singles. Unbelievable how little research and thought is put into articles lately, especially one written for RS who now seems to take a back street to Blender. Kelly’s new manager Narvel Blackstock is only the manager of Reba, Blake Shelton and Kelly. The other artists you mentioned only use the Starstruck studios to record. Also Kelly has debunked the rumors of going on the idol tour. That rumor was started by a blogger for publicity and amazingly enough it was picked up as fact. Am I the only one who thinks people get way too emotional over their favorite singers to the point where they’ll become rude, irrational, and completely immature?

*Sarcasm* Here are some of my favorite kind of posts I’ve seen all too often when people compare Kelly and Carrie.

1) “So and so is fat and ugly” (most likely Kelly in this case). You people are the reason why American society is so screwed up. Do you really want every celebrity to be paper thin or have some sort of eating disorder? It’s called being normal. Don’t even tell me you DON’T know someone in real life who isn’t significantly heavier than Kelly.

2) “Carrie/Kelly All the way! Carrie/Kelly Who?” Wow. Let’s face it, both of them are great singers in their own right and they will be more famous than you will ever be in your lifetime. Next time, consider writing your own name before the “Who?” because I’m pretty sure I’ve never heard of you in my life.

3) Last but certainly not least. People who think that they are all knowing and music moguls. Telling Kelly/Carrie to give up and face the facts that one is better than the other. Grow up. Who talks like that? Sure as hell wouldn’t want you as a friend. There’s room for many successful artists and musicians in the music industry. However there isn’t room for people who incessantly bash people to feel better about themselves. Speaking from personal experience, as I’m sure many people can relate, those are the kind of people who get a swift kick to their ass.

Before you throw an insult consider that both of these talented individuals are and will always be far more accomplished in their respective genres than you will ever be.

I was just letting you guys know that there is this forum(forget which one) that is going to try to promote HOW I FEEL. They are all making fan made videos and the edited ones must be done by Jan.14th. They’ll be a poll for the best video and thay will post it on YOU TUBE. They will keep playing it until it gets noticed. Then in febuary(curent date planned is the 14th) thay will download it off of i-tunes then a few days later they will start requesting it at their local radio stations and hope it picks up.

Reba is an Icon and a legend all by her self. You can not compare these others girls with her. She had to work her way to the top of the charts and earn her fans.
This does not mean that these other women are not talented as well. The American Idol show has made their way up to the top much easiar then it use to be for singers to make it in the industry. Carrie is not country but has broke her way into the country. She does have talent and is beautiful. She goes on magazine covers well… 35 million people watched the show(American Idol), it is no surprise that 6 million turn out to buy her album. She was lucky.
Kelly is a wonderful artist with a powerful voice. I think that more people have complimented her voice and talent then that of Carrie. Carrie is popular for now but lets see who can stand the test of time.

There was a comment made that Carrie Underwood does not get involved with her fans and another person said Carrie should quit before Kelly takes back the Idol Crown. Grow up people, just because your favorite singer isn’t doing as well as some other people doesn’t give you the right to bash them. Carrie supports her fans as best she can. For one, she has a fan club, I don’t see Kelly with one. Carrie is always on tours and has many concerts, I haven’t heard much from Kelly. And from what I know, Carrie has sold WAY more albums then kelly will ever sell. Carrie’s first Album is 7X Platinum for gosh shakes. Carrie’s 2nd album has been out for less then half a year and already it’s at almost 3X platinum. Don’t get me wrong, Kelly is a great singer too, but in my opinion can’t do nearly as well as Carrie Underwood. If Kelly was doing better then Carrie, I wouldn’t be sitting here bitching about it and bashing another artist because of it. Kelly is not doing horribly, and you should be proud of that. First off… Kelly does have a fan club. I’m pretty sure all major bands/singers nowadays have one. In terms of touring, Kelly went on three tours for one CD (Breakaway, Hazel Eyes, and Addicted) just a couple years ago, a tour for MD between last year and this year, and just finished the first half of a tour that she’s co-headlining with Reba.

Album sales: Luke commented that Carrie has sold more albums than Kelly will ever sell. According to Nielsen Company, which just recently put together all the data from AI, “Kelly Clarkson is the best selling American Idol contestant with album and digital download sales of 18.9 million. Um yeah, that’s not a reliable source because the site is not there anymore. They have stated many times on American Idol that Carrie has sold more records then any previous idol winner. Even if Kelly does have more albums sold, that’s only because she was singing longer then Carrie.

Your wrong again,Carrie has only sold more than Kelly in the US alone, Kelly has sold more worldwide since Kelly is more successful worldwide than Carrie. There are some people in parts of the world who don’t who Carrie is. Almost ever country out there has heard of Kelly and it’s not because of Idol. You can blame the declining sales for My December on Kelly’s ex label boss Clive Davis who was being a complete jack-a$$. The people at RCA never gave it a chance,they never promoted like they should have, it’s her best album to date. If they gave it a chance it would probably have done well. And your crazy thinking that Kelly is nowhere near Carrie in sales. Just wait until Kelly’s fourth album comes out this fall. Well, sales don’t lie. I even remember a poll on americanidol.com. It asked who your favorite Idol was. Carrie beat Kelly by 200 votes on that. There was another poll that said who has the best vocal range? Carrie beat Kelly on that too. So it’s not Clive’s fault that My December is declining in sales, it’s because some people don’t like her music. Like I said before, I don’t think Kelly is a bad song artist, she’s great, she’s just not as good as Carrie IMO. I don’t know why you people are so defensive of her. The Carrie bashing is not necessary. And whoever posted that last post 4 times, unnecessary. And don’t say I’m bashing Kelly, because I’m not, Kelly is still doing great, just not as great as Carrie. I think if you asked both Kelly & Carrie, they’d want everyone to let this drop. While Kelly has sold more albums than Carrie, they really are quite different people. Different polls favorite one while other polls favor the other. Carrie has said that she has lots of respect for Kelly. The first year Kelly won, she said she wanted to sing different styles of music as she grew up loving ALL kinds of music. She is GREAT at All kinds of music. Carrie is GREAT at country. I’ve taped ALL but the last two seasons and have both girls singing different genres and country favors Carrie and all the others favor Kelly. While Carrie looks better(and she kinda knows it) Kelly definitely is popular because of her amazing pipes. Since I’m NOT (sorry country lovers) a country music lover, I prefer Clarkson’s voice because it is versatile. Her voice takes on something different with each separate genre. Anyhow, hey, I think we can all agree that they are the two best singers from AI.

I love them both, but I am a hardcore KC fan. I’ve been to concerts from both artists, and Kelly really is the much more versatile of the two. I think Carrie is very polished, and she’s awesome too. I like Kelly because there’s really not anyone that you can compare her to. She’s such a good blend of all my favorite types of music. You could easily compare Carrie to Martina McBride or Faith Hill. I respect the fact that Kelly writes her own music. Some of it may not be loved by the masses, but she does it her way, and that can only be admired. I also love the fact that she’s not some camera whore, and keeps her relationships personal. You won’t find her on TMZ going into a restaurant with her NFL boyfriend I like a few of Carrie’s songs like “Wasted”, but think that “Jesus take the wheel” and “Last name” are pretty conflicting, not to mention cheezy. Both ladies have awesome voices. Kelly has more of a natural rock / r&b sound, while Carrie has the country twang and sings like a well trained poodle I also like the fact that Kelly isn’t afraid to eat a cookie now and then. Kelly Clarkson has classical training, while Carrie Underwood has no formal training at all, yet Carrie is the one who is totally consistent in live performances and doesn’t lose her voice every other month. Kelly’s “vocal range” is a result of pushing her vocal cords beyond their natural means. Kelly’s highest belted note is an A5..in mixed voice. Carrie’s highest belted note so far is an effortless F#5…in PURE chest voice.
Kelly’s F#6 “whistle” in “Natural Woman” started totally flat, and she never did it again after that performance. Carrie I believe could tap into the whistle register if she wanted, because I’ve heard her scream A6s and Bb6s before.

Kelly doesn’t push her vocal cords, like to see Carrie sing “Up to the Mountain” especially at the end just as good as Kelly and get praises from the real “Queen of Country” Reba McEntire. When I saw Carrie’s performance of “All American Girl” when she was being inducted into Grand Ole Opry it was weak and she was pushing her vocal chords. Kelly gets praises for her voice and range all the time, more than Carrie. Songwriter Luke Gottwald called Kelly the “Lance Armstrong of Vocal Chords” the guy knows his stuff and I don’t think he would have said that if she did push her vocal chords. In late 2007 when she was in NYC the high note she hits in “Because of You” was WOW, and people starting to give her praises right then and there it made Kelly stop and take all of it in. At the end of that performance the crowd gave her applause’s and cheers for I don’t know how long. Kelly’s voice was just as good before she took classical training. Kelly has more power, soul, and range. Kelly is amazing live, witness myself too. And she was better than ever while on tour with Reba last fall. Maybe you need to call up Kelly’s middle school choir teacher Cindy Glenn and tell her what you think about Kelly and that she “pushes her vocal chords”, she’ll probably tell you in a heartbeat that Kelly doesn’t.

Well Carrie has not sold more than Kelly. Kelly has sold over 20 million worldwide the most out of any Idol alum. And Kelly not doing so well? Are you crazy let’s see for the second time in her career she has broken the billboard chart record for the longest jump to number 1 for a single in it’s first week. Kelly is just as humble as Carrie probably even more. She has class as well, KC is probably the only pop star out there who does have it. EW ranked Breakaway #29 on their list of the top 25 albums of the past 25 yrs. It’s the only Idol album on there. No one is prouder of where Kelly came from than Kelly herself, she has never had or will say one bad thing about coming from Idol. Carrie Underwood is a HORRIBLE person. Whatever success she’s had has gone right to her head. Not to mention, success in this day and age is rarely correlated with good music – do I have to mention that Taylor Swift has been on or near the top of the Billboard 200 for 17 weeks. Ironically, in a rare occasion, Clarkson is back on top of the charts with her new CD. Furthermore, to say a singer’s talent is based on his/her vocal range is laughable and ignorant to say the least. Kelly Clarkson does not belong in Carrie Underwood’s shadow (of ALL PEOPLE?!?). Carrie would be lucky to have half of Kelly’s talent – instead she’ll remain the emotionless robot that she is.

Kelly has expressed a desire for a country album, and knowing her it’ll be epic. The media may try to blow it up and them look like ‘rivals’ however. Plus Carrie has totally dominated that area.
