According to multiple reports, the Universal Music Group, which includes everyone from U2 to Amy Winehouse to Eminem under its umbrella, has told Apple that it won’t be renewing its contract with the iTunes Store. The sixty-four dollar question: whether this is just a negotiating ploy for the label (which seems likely) or a serious revolt by the bedraggled record companies. Stay tuned.

If true, this is idiotic. The record labels did everything they could to keep the price of CD’s inflated (when the prices should have come down)…they are going to try to do the same thing here.
I don’t think the record labels will ever get with it.

this is the more stupid move a record label have ever made or think to make, they have sh*t in their heads or what?Universal the only thing that will make by leaving iTunes is to kill itself again, is like a commercial suicide really, hot jakobi said Bono will be very unhappy hahaha because if stupid Universal doesn’t know Bono is great friend of Mr.Jobs, so well Universal will be the first record label to disappear finally, stupid record labels. I really won’t buy any album if it is not in itunes better I download it in Limewire or something like that!!!!
FUCK YOU UNIVERSAL ASSHOLES!!!!!
duke | 7/3/2007, 3:12 am EST
HA, this is gonna be great. Record companies are run by third graders who don’t want you at their birthday party. I hope this screws them over.
Crista | 7/3/2007, 1:06 am EST

yada yada | 7/2/2007, 6:06 pm EST
doug morris (president of universal) is a greedy idiot. he has repeatedly screwed up the music biz in the past and here he is doing it again. put him out to pasture.
man o man | 7/2/2007, 6:00 pm EST
labels. dumb as bags of hammers, i tell ya. try telling all of the universal artists that they won’t be on itunes and see who does the bolting then. why do these labels even still exist? aren’t they just greedy middlemen now? put them out of their (and our) misery.
tkm | 7/2/2007, 5:12 pm EST
This is SO going to backfire on Universal, Do they honestly think that they have this much clout? They simply can’t afford to not have their artists available on the iTunes store. Go ahead….shoot yourselves in the other foot, Universal.
StabbingTheDrama | 7/2/2007, 12:28 pm EST
That’s absolutely ridiculous on Universal’s part. Digital sales have been going up and up every month. This is a really stupid move.
Beaufighter | 7/2/2007, 11:54 am EST
Another example of record labels cutting their own throats, and relegating themselves to irrelevance. They didn’t embrace new technology and react to the evolving market, now they’re trying to play hardball from a position of weakness. CD sales are tanking, the industry is going digital, the times they are a-changing…yet here they are, still scrambling for deals they should have been negotiating five years ago. Fools.
Tyrus | 7/2/2007, 6:39 am EST
Dumb Move…Unless universal will set up its own downloading platform, all it has to compete with iTunes is its massive artist base, yet iTunes is making it money when CD’s aren’t.
Record companies are only prolonging thier deaths.
Jakobi | 7/2/2007, 5:21 am EST
Wow, Bono isn’t going to be happy.
People won’t be forced to look at his face on the iPod box anymore!
