Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr Share Beatles Moment at Record Store Gig

6/28/07, 5:18 pm EST

A wild assortment of Hollywood rock and film glitterati turned out for Paul McCartney’s gig last night at Amoeba Records in Los Angeles. In the crowd: Rick Rubin; Alanis Morissette, holding hands with Woody Harrelson; George Harrison’s widow, Olivia; Michael Eisner; Cybill Shepard; Jeff Lynne; producer John Shanks; former Wings members Denny Seweill and Laurence Juber; and, yes, Stephen Pearcy of Ratt.

But the guest of honor was Ringo Starr, who was singing along and dancing in the CD stacks during the show. McCartney noticed Starr, and when it came to perform “That Was Me” – a song about Macca’s days in The Beatles – he pointed at Ringo and said, “That was you, too!” McCartney also clearly got choked up singing “Here Today,” a tune dedicated to the late John Lennon. Near the end, McCartney tried to say something nice about Ringo to the crowd, but then realized he’d left and announced, “Elvis has left the building.” When it was all over, Macca left the building as well, and headed to the after-party at the Velvet Margarita Cantina nearby.

McCartney Team Up's | 11/6/2008, 12:11 am EST

You know how McCartney teamed up with the likes of Michael Jackson,Carl Perkins, etc. back in the day? WHY wont he ever team up with some of today’s hottest DJ’s, such as DJ Shadow, for a new album?

COME ON PAUL,RINGO,JULIAN OR SEAN AND DHANI, MAKE THE BEATLES WORLD HAPPY AND DO SOME CONCERTS. WE NEED SOME HAPPINESS IN THE WORLD AGAIN LIKE THE HAPPINESS YOU GAVE US IN THE 1960S!!

I think that Julian Lennon could do an awesome job filling in for John if it ever came to that. Dhani Harrison did a nice job at the concert for George and he looks uncanningly similar to George when he was younger. So if Paul and Ringo ever decide to resurrect The Beatles those two would be perfect

It’s nice to see those 4 famous last names in one room again, mccartney, starr, lennon & harrison (even though the last 2 were just the widows)Paul & Yoko have mend fences long before (remember Yoko gave those lennon tapes…free as the bird & real to the surviving beatles at the time to record) Great to see them all

Ditto to all of the above…except the Ghost of Lennon thing….Loved Seeing Paul, Ringo, Yoko and Olivia (isn’t she just about the classiest woman ever?) on Larry King. There’s still that Paul and Ringo chemistry. Wish ole’ Larry actually prepared for such interviews. And the plugs for that skag Paris Hilton with Paul and Ringo sitting there. Loved how Paul shook his head and Yoko giggled when Larry mentioned Hilton’s name. Paul’s in great voice at his small club concerts. Way to go Paul. You still got it.

I still love Paul. Wish I could have been there. Paul, send me a ticket, eh?

Ghost of John Lennon | 6/29/2007, 1:14 pm EST

You bloody old fool! Why you pretend to get choked up singing “Here Today” when you never really gave a rat’s ass about me when I was alive? Go find yourself a new wife. My Yoko continues to be a loyal loving wife who keeps alive my spirit.

Max Buzz | 6/29/2007, 11:52 am EST

Paul, please get your pasty white English ass out into the sun while you are in LA! You are the greatest but you are looking a little bit too pale for SoCal.

Paul and Ringo could do something with two other oldies from the sixties like Ray and Dave Davies, Pete Townsend, Pete Best (no no joking). Create a sixties supergroup that would make new music.

Mal Evans | 6/29/2007, 9:00 am EST

Now that it’s just Ringo and Paul left, it’d be lovely to see them work together on something just for the fun of it. No pretentions of it being a “reunion”, nobody left out, just two old friends showing that music and time heals any wounds.

Dean | 6/28/2007, 11:12 pm EST

I wish I was there. The ticket distribution system was a joke, and really unfair to people that do not live in the LA area.Glad to hear it was a great concert.Paul is still awesome.

webdog | 6/28/2007, 11:01 pm EST

I viewed Paul & Ringo on Larry King and was thinking that Ringo use to have gray facial foliage and now its dark. I wish he would keep it real.

Lawrence Hill is an amazing artist!

Now this is what you call real rock star charisma. If Axl Rose became as likeable as Paul, he has the potential to be an equally huge draw in his 2nd innings.

Brien Comerford | 6/28/2007, 6:57 pm EST

At 65 Paul McCartney belies age with his frenetic and captivating live concerts. His new hard rock songs “Only Mama Knows”, “House Of Wax” and especially “Nod Your Head” prove that the music industry’s most famous vegetarian can still write meaty songs reminiscent of “Helter Skelter” and “Junior’s Farm”. rock on macca.

Marc | 6/28/2007, 5:56 pm EST

I think thats so cool how hes been playing at these smaller venues. I think after his divorce, he wants to get personnal with his fans again. Thats so awesome.

bat chain puller | 6/28/2007, 5:49 pm EST

Long Live The Beatles! Well two of em anyway!

sy | 6/28/2007, 5:44 pm EST
