Angry Mother Accuses RIAA Of Espionage, Intimidation And Stalking

6/28/07, 4:27 pm EST

RIAATanya J. Andersen, a disabled single mom from Beaverton, Oregon, is turning the tables on the RIAA and suing the organization for illegally spying on her. The suit claims that Andersen, one of 21,000 people who have been sued by the RIAA since 2003 for illegally downloading music, is a victim of abusive legal tactics, threats and, yes, spying. Her filing says the RIAA refused to drop its case against her even after the recording industry’s own expert concluded she was innocent, and after Andersen discovered that the RIAA was attributing an Internet name to her that actually belonged to a young man living in Washington.

Andersen also claims that RIAA representatives threatened to interrogate her 10-year-old daughter, Kylee, if Andersen didn’t pay thousands of dollars in fines, alleging that a woman claiming to be the girl’s grandmother call Kylee’s school to inquire about her attendance.

Pretty ridiculous I’d say. The RIAA has been losing cases left and right ever since they started this finagling. Why isn’t there an organization that goes after record labels screwing over their clients?! Musicians wouldn’t be so concerned with downloads if their labels didn’t rape them in the butt all the time…

Screw the RIAA, record labels, and Lars… that bastard started this all!

RIAA had their chance to get on board with the rising tide of digital music with napster. They blew it.

The RIAA is so out dated and uncool. Thier shenanigans are part of the problem with everything music industry. In no way are they part of a solution.

If that last comment is true, then some heads will roll.

Johnny Kickass | 6/28/2007, 5:34 pm EST

Good for the RIAA! Teach those kids a lesson. You can’t just go around STEALING everything you want and expect no repercussions. Screw ‘em!!

Sue em! Sue em all!!
GO RIAA!!

And what does being a disabled single mom have to do with anything? ‘Oh, I’m disabled! I’m a single mom! So I can break any law I want’ ???

Paris Hilton | 6/28/2007, 5:10 pm EST

The RIAA are a bunch of fascist pigs and should burn in hell for bullying the very people who keep this industry afloat. I say fuck them, fuck them in their stupid asses.

Mario Kart | 6/28/2007, 5:04 pm EST

HA HA!!

Oddjob | 6/28/2007, 4:55 pm EST

I hope she wins this. The RIAA have been the most selfish bunch of thugs ever over the past few years: false accusations, exhorbitant fines in a punishment that totally doesn’t fit the crime, altering their siging strategy so new artists’ contracts include paying a percentage of their touring and merchandise to the record company. All this for money they are only entitled to in theory. The whole thing is linked to the idea that every song downloaded is a lost CD sale- do you really think every Joe who downloaded “Don’t Stop Believing” was on their way out to buy Journey’s greatest hits? They still make massive sales, they’re just upset that they’re not the same ridiculously bloated numbers as in 2000, the industry’s peak. Fuck the RIAA!
