Bono Honors Blair, Kanye Turns Into A Robot, Justin Gushes About Coldplay

6/27/07, 2:43 pm EST

  • To honor British Prime Minister Tony Blair’s last day in office, U2’s Bono salutes the exiting leader by saying, “Tony Blair plays guitar. Singers need guitar players.” Huh?
  • Kanye West gets robotic in his new video for “Stronger,” which looks and sounds more like Daft Punk remixing Kanye West than Kanye West sampling Daft Punk. Can anyone help us translate those subtitles?
  • Justin Timberlake calls Coldplay “the modern Beatles,” and insists he wants to duet with Chris Martin.
  • Jon Bon Jovi, fresh off his Billboard victory, will cameo on the next album by rapper Famouz (a.k.a. Reggie Stephens, a football player who used to suit up for Bon Jovi’s arena football team, the Philly Soul).
  • Ludacris will attempt a British accent in Guy Richie’s next film, RocknRolla, which unsurprisingly follows a man’s attempt to navigate the London underworld.
  • Axl Rose had a drink thrown at him during a concert in Brisbane, Australia, which will surely delay the release of Chinese Democracy another decade.

Axl has little to gain and everything to lose by actually releasing this record.

I am now convinced that it is completed and he is afraid to release it.

Man, every bullet features people I am tried of.

auggie | 6/27/2007, 3:30 pm EST

they are not even the modern radiohead, get over cold play justin, just another copy cat band

Oddjob | 6/27/2007, 3:41 pm EST

Coldplay are nothing like the Beatles. For one thing, all their songs are the f*%&ing same, they’re all over-the-top U2 wannabe sh*t, with “soaring choruses” and “uplifting messages” that are so premeditated as to be completely ineffective. Justin, what’s wrong with you, saying somehting like that?

mmd | 6/27/2007, 3:51 pm EST

Justin Timberlake is a f’ing idiot who doesn’t know shit about music. Coldplay, the modern beatles?! Are you kidding me?! Coldplay are the pussie’s version of Radiohead. Chris Martin is a pretentious git who wishes he and his band were as important, as good, and as influential as U2, who hands down have the only right to inherit the title of the next or “modern” beatles.

ron | 6/27/2007, 3:56 pm EST

thats the stupidest thing ive ever heard, there are so many bands more deserving of that title. i agree… chris martin orgasms at the thought of ever reaching radiohead’s level. justin timberlake is an idiot.

mmd | 6/27/2007, 4:08 pm EST

ron,
i guess we agree on JT and chris martin, but please give me one other band in the last 30 years that comes close to the Beatles other than U2 that created such classic rock n’ roll anthems, pioneered an original sound, sold as many records, who didn’t implode and who actually had influence politically?

Tina | 6/27/2007, 4:42 pm EST

Radiohead are the modern Beatles. Coldplay not even close.

david | 6/27/2007, 5:50 pm EST

smashing pumpkins and greenay aare the nodern beatles, based on their popularity and sucess.plus they sound great!

Topher | 6/27/2007, 5:54 pm EST

This just shows Justin Timberlake really isn’t that smart and doesn’t know anything about music history.

First of all Coldplay is a good band, though their last album played it safe and sounded just about the same as their second.

Second of all, the Beatles caused massive worldwide hysteria and obsession not rivaled before or since.

Thirdly, all four Beatles brought their own individual styles and talents to the group. Ask people to name the four Beatles and most could, no problem. Ask them to name the four members of Coldplay and most wouldn’t be able to get past Chris Martin, or as many so affectionately know him, “the singer married to Gwyneth Paltrow.

Spaceboy | 6/27/2007, 8:35 pm EST

Dear Mr. Timberlake,

Calling Coldplay the modern Beatles is just plain rubbish. As a matter of fact, any band that compares themselves to the Beatles loses all credibility with us.

Signed,
Oasis

MusicalJenius | 6/27/2007, 10:44 pm EST

There is no such thing as a modern day Beatles because everything is that is modern is based on recycled ideas the Beatles had over 4 decades ago. Not Radiohead, not coldplay, not U2, not Green Day, and sure as hell not Oasis (although it looked like it could’ve been for a minute JUST A MINUTE).

On the Axl Rose comment: LMFAO

about justin | 6/28/2007, 12:09 am EST

He probably does not listen to much rock music. Just what he hears on the radio. I bet if you ask him to name some rock bands he only name the ones that everyone has heard of.

Dan | 6/28/2007, 11:48 am EST

Up above is proof that not everything Bono says is important, newsworthy or coherent.

I dont understand when people are trying to insult Coldplay – just look at their sales. These people dont have enough brains to respect other different opinions…
