Questions for Larry King to Ask the Remaining Beatles Tonight

6/26/07, 4:26 pm EST

Tonight Larry King is interviewing Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison: It’s the only time the two surviving Beatles and the deceased Beatles wives have agreed to be interviewed together.
We’ll admit it: We’re worried about this one. King is famous for shunning the pre-interview and failing to conduct any research about his guests; if he stays true to form, we can expect stuff along the lines of “Why do they call you Ringo?” and “Do you ever pinch yourself? You’re a Beatle!”
So we’ve come up with four questions, out of the goodness of our hearts:

Is your catalog going to be released on iTunes anytime soon? What’s with the delay?

Yoko, two years ago you got onstage at the Q Awards and said this: “John always found it extraordinary that people would always cover Paul’s songs, and I used to tell him not to worry about all those ‘june and spoon’ songs.” Yoko, are you saying Paul’s songs are just a bunch of
fluff? Paul, how did you feel about that?

Paul, in 2001 you told Rolling Stone that Yoko was a “great artist” before laughing hysterically. Can you speak to that?

Recently some evidence has come forward that the four of you reunited for a session in 1976. Is that true? What happened at that session? Is the tape still around?

Any more suggestions?

I think one of the best comments was Paul giving Ringo the credit he deserves..And I hardly think he need feel guilty for “stumbling” into the best band of all time since they asked him to join. However he did prove being at the right place at the right time can mean everything! I have been a professional drummer for 45 years, (age 56)playing mostly jazz which in my opinion is much more intricate…but the other night after being asked to do a gig with a Beatles cover band took all my Beatles cds down to my small studio to play along with. I was supprised how hard it can be to play so simple! Ringo played exactly what the music called for not trying to show off his chops at every possible fill. Good job, Rings! I have a whole new respect for the guy and drummers that say he wasn’t a good drummer just don’t get it!

Greg | 6/28/2007, 4:29 pm EST

To the ppl who suggest the posters to this forum don’t like the Beatles: the annoyance comes from Larry King’s disrespectful treatment of his subjects. Larry didn’t know what was going on. Anyone who even bothered to watch half of the Anthologies when they were televised nationally would know the answers to the questions Larry asked. He wasted a great opportunity. I think most of the posters here love the Beatles, and were disappointed that someone like Larry King got the chance to interview them when there are millions of people out there who could have done a much better job. I love the Beatles!!

King fan | 6/28/2007, 3:06 pm EST

Time for Larry to retire. I will gladly accept him calling Bush” Mr clinton” or Hillary, Laura; But come on folks, calling Ringo: George. You have got to be kidding. He is either having a bout with senility or he was just overwhelmed with greatness

Ted | 6/28/2007, 2:28 pm EST

I loved the whole thing. Larry K is Larry K. What did you expect? But he did get THE BEATLES.

Loved when Paul said Ringo’s drumming was the centre of their music. Ringo has never got the credit he deserves, though notably, real musicians have a lot of respect for him. He was good enough for the Beatles. I rest my case.

Barbara | 6/28/2007, 9:33 am EST

Charlie Rose wouldn’t have been much better than Larry King (who apparently called poor George “George Hamilton in a preshow segment). He interviewed Paul a few years ago and called him John a few times. Wish I could make as many mistakes in my job as these two overpaid guys do.

hardyandtiny | 6/28/2007, 12:13 am EST

No, you mean breathe deep.

Nadja Dee | 6/27/2007, 8:14 pm EST

Paul and Ringo were/are the nicest of the Beatles. I think, John would have definitely been more sarcastic to Larry, putting him on the spot. “What do you mean Larry, c’mon Luv” and George could be very moody. (Remember they gave him the “wouldnt be caught dead in that..it’s dead grotty” white shirt scene in Hard Days Night. Olivia when compared to Yoko seemed like an angel in contrast. (Dont get me wrong, John is my favorite Beatle and George is #2, and I actually dont hate Yoko, but when sitting next to Olivia Harrison? Why the stupid sunglasses and black hat though?) Yes, Larry had no clue that George wrote “something” about another woman.
I loved when Paul shared the holding hands moment with George. See, he really did just “Wanna hold your hand!”

deaconblues74 | 6/27/2007, 7:09 pm EST

It’s nice to see some better comments on here today… many more people who know the FF.
And for those of you who suggested that Charlie Rose would have conducted a better interview: GENIUS. You’re absolutely right.

bat | 6/27/2007, 5:13 pm EST

I thought Paul and Ringo were very enjoyable clowning around with each other like old times. Larry King is Larry King, what are you going to do. You just have to respect the elderly I guess.

Janet | 6/27/2007, 5:10 pm EST

I mean breath deep.

Janet | 6/27/2007, 5:07 pm EST

Larry G,

It’s okay. You’ll be all right. Just breathe deep and let it go. You’re going to give yourself a heart attack.

Larry G | 6/27/2007, 1:42 pm EST

Oh come on. It’s all in fun. We all might as well have a good laugh. Ringo and Paul definitely did last night.

joho | 6/27/2007, 1:00 pm EST

Let it go, man. Let it go…

Larry G | 6/27/2007, 11:44 am EST

Tonight on Larry King: Hear Larry K. ask these hard-hitting and tentatively accurate journalistic questions of Paris Hilton:

“So NICOLE, what was prison like?”

“Are you planning a sequel to your internet movie? Will you feature that same guy?”

“Do you really lead a Simple Life?”

“Where were you when John Lennon died? How did that make you feel?”

flysteve | 6/27/2007, 11:11 am EST

Larry acted like a high school girl on the Sullivan show - should have pulled his suspenders and squealed, fainted.
Drums are arguably the most important instrument in a rock and roll band and they used to be mixed way down back in the day. You can’t name one great band who didn’t have a great drummer. Guitarist can be weak, bass can be lame, but drums have to drive.

It didn’t matter anyway because it’s over for Larry. Put him in a home and stick him in the corner with a cup to drool in, “I used to be Larry King. I interviewed the Beatles once, Paul and George it was…”

Larry had it easy. Paul and Ringo are the more benign and agreeable of the original 4 Beatles. John and George meanwhile spin (at 5.1) in their graves. Larry can’t be far behind them.

Kliffee | 6/27/2007, 10:47 am EST

The show wasn’t bad. Just seeing and hearing those 4 people talk was great. Better than anything else that’s been on tv for the past 10 years.

Jaypea | 6/27/2007, 9:41 am EST

I felt embarrassed for Paul, Ringo, Yoko, and Olivia. “How did you feel when your friend/husband died?” WTF??? Calling Ringo George was brainless, and asking Olivia how she felt when hearing “Something” (she should have told him George wrote that for his first wife!) just shows how ill prepared the man was. Charlie Rose or Chris Farley’s SNL character would have conducted better interviews. Even a person off the street with no background on the Beatles or Love could have conducted a better interview.

sp | 6/27/2007, 9:21 am EST

That was a horrid interview. I never watch Larry King, but now I know he’s an idiot and probably shouldn’t be on TV.

Anyone else get the feeling that they (especially Paul) really didn’t want to be there. I think they were irked by how ridiculous the interview was and the fact that today’s Paris Hilton interview is touted as being equally as important as the freakin’ Beatles! Also, Olivia and the Quebecer made it seem like Yoko was a real pain to work with, which she likely was. All in all, the interview was terrible, but Paul and Ringo were hilarious throughout with their sarcasm (at least that’s how I saw it).
Paul: He called you George on national television!
Ringo: Tell the man what he wants to know!
hah!

Bob Plumer | 6/27/2007, 8:58 am EST

Larry:

enjoy your shows. I heard last night some of the Beatles songs are recorded in 5.1 sound. Is there any cd’s out in 5.1 sound and if so where can I get them?

Thanks,

Bob

marlee | 6/27/2007, 8:52 am EST

I thought the interview was historic. I have never seen Larry King get so emotional during an interview. Great job. Legend interviewing legends.

Laurens van Indonesia | 6/27/2007, 4:37 am EST

Next on Larry King: Axl and Slash.

GQtaste | 6/27/2007, 2:57 am EST

Well, when it comes to kissass that’s expected when it comes to this sort of things. I would be in awe of those dudes too. Other side of the issue is the way the promoted this deal I would hope Paul and Ringo would have been more nice. NOt so much Ringo, because I thought he was very affable, Paul on the other hand acted to me, that he was sort of put out by the hole thing. I’m I nuts? He seemed to me that he wasn’t very hospitable when it comes down to it. Perhaps aloof for part of it. Look it, I get the these guys put their pants on just like the rest of us, but Paul seemed very uncomfortable and stuck up ala, Jolie during the GG awards show. But not in the sense being cold. Just a little put off by the compliments.

Mr. Tim | 6/27/2007, 2:48 am EST

He should ask Olivia to re-enact
the burglary in her home, by hitting Paul over the head with a lamp.

Luis | 6/27/2007, 2:04 am EST

Well the interview was ok for my point og view, the only thing that I can see is that Ringo and Paul are anymore best friends only friends, thats sad because they were a huge band in their times and they are anymore unite. The questions post by RS are funny, but they will be ridiculous to ask because Larry of course doesn’t want a fight in his show will be bad publicity!!!

Gary | 6/27/2007, 1:50 am EST

I thought that the interview was fine. I don’t get all of the complaints either.

Jennifer | 6/27/2007, 1:47 am EST

Wow!!! I guess I don’t understand the internet. I’ve never posted anything before, but I am amazed at the type of stuff people write. There are a lot of extremely angry and hateful people out there. Does anyone in this forum LIKE anything out there in the world? Or is the entire human race so jaded that they can’t enjoy anything anymore?

It seems like NO one out there is satisfied.

I don’t get it. I LOVED the Larry King interview. My question to everyone is: If everything about the Beatles bothers you so much, why did you watch the interview in the first place and why do you waste your time listening to their music?

Bill | 6/27/2007, 1:40 am EST

Larry G says: “Best part of the CNN interview: McCartney telling Larry King that the drums were the heart of the Beatles….and Larry King, like all the other clueless Ringo naysayers, acted incredulous.”

I think that you misinterpreted Larry’s response to Paul’s statement. I don’t think that Larry’s reaction was a critique of Ringo’s drumming. Larry was simply surprised that Paul would say that the drums were the most important part of the Beatles music. I suspect that Larry would have reacted the exact same way if Paul had said the same thing about any of the other instruments played by the Beatles. It is just surprising to hear him say that ONE instrument and ONE instrument alone is what made the Beatles music so great.

At least that’s the way that I saw it.

I think that you are reading WAAAAAY to much into his reaction.

GQtaste | 6/27/2007, 1:11 am EST

One other thing: after seeing this I would have loved to see them on Charlie Rose. Would have been night and day better than what I just witnessed.

GQtaste | 6/27/2007, 1:08 am EST

I watch King every night. Or at least see who he has on that given night. Something I always ask myself is where the f does he come up w/ some of those questions?

Take for instance he was interviewing the lady who lost her daughter last week in Ohio that was killed. He ask if she was angry at the dude that killed her kid. For somebody that gets to interview the top-shelf of all types of people: Presidents, movie stars, Pope’s, et al.

Knowing his ratings are shit. Justthesame, where are they gonna go, Bill O’Reilly on Fox? Of course not, but his interviews are so fluff.

Oh, back to the topic at hand: questions to ask the boys. How big of a rivaly did you have w/ the Stones? And was it good for both bands, keeping them both in check to stay on top of their games? I think so. Also, was there ever a chance to make piece offering and do another project together? How bout a Paul and Ringo calaberation(sp?)?

How f’ed up where the boys when they had the balls to create the White album? And how much of a fight did it take to get Revolution 9 on that said record?

Did Paul ever get over Spectors mangling of “Long and winding Road?” And how does he see Spectors current situation? Did they see that coming from back in the day? Yoko could have been asked that one to on the account of JOhn’s solo stuff and actually know that I think of it Spector did George’s solo stuff too.

Kap | 6/27/2007, 12:25 am EST

Larry slapping Paul, Ringo in the Bahamas, WTF?

Orgo | 6/27/2007, 12:22 am EST

When the fuck is “Let It Be” gonna
be released on DVD?

Schraminator | 6/26/2007, 11:34 pm EST

Those questions listed above are horrible suggestions, what about “Ringo and Paul, do you guys think you’ll tour together anytime soon?” Who gives a shit about iTunes, that program is destroying the music industry, and anyone downloading muisc illegally can go screw themselves, cuz I have no respect for you. Ringo better release his live album from the All Starr Band this year, he was so much better than the Rolling Stones. In fact, best concert I might have went too.

Larry G | 6/26/2007, 11:23 pm EST

Best part of the CNN interview: McCartney telling Larry King that the drums were the heart of the Beatles….and Larry King, like all the other clueless Ringo naysayers, acted incredulous. If Larry K. or his producers had done some homework, they would have read this in “The Beatles Illustrated Record” (an analysis of all Abbey Road recordings): Ringo’s drums only broke down two or three times in the thousands of hours of session tapes, while instruments played by the other Fab three broke down more frequently. Of course, Ringo’s drums were centerpiece. Maybe his voice or lyric writing ability were not comparable to the other three, but his musicianship never lacked.

Andy | 6/26/2007, 11:21 pm EST

I meant to say: Why are all of the posts in this forum so angry? Sounds like everyone here HATES the Beatles.

Larry G | 6/26/2007, 11:15 pm EST

CNN allowed viewers to email questions. I had requested that Larry King ask about the status of Now and Then. Of course, he didn’t.

Andy | 6/26/2007, 11:15 pm EST

Why is everyone posting in this forum so angry?

deaconblues74 | 6/26/2007, 11:11 pm EST

Worst. Interview. Ever.

And I’m amazed at all of the comments from people who don’t know anything about
Beatles history or Beatles current events.

Andy | 6/26/2007, 11:11 pm EST

Larry King’s interview was great. I don’t think that any of the 4 questions in the article above would have been appropriate to ask. Plus, I wouldn’t even want to hear the answers to those questions. Only hardcore Beatles’ fetishists care about that stuff. The general public wouldn’t even know what those questions meant.

As for the re-mastering of the Beatles back catalogue; why is everyone so hell bent on re-buying music they already own? The Beatles CDs from 1988 sound fantastic! Modern re-mastering will sound tinny, shrill, compressed and too loud. Today’s CDs sound absolutely horrendous. ITunes is even worse than a CD! The compression on an mp3 ruins the music.

Nope, I’m not wealthy enough to purchase all of my Beatles albums again. Besides, it can’t be good for the environment.

Brett | 6/26/2007, 10:40 pm EST

Larry actually asked Olivia Harrison what “something meant to her. Olivia, stunned that Larry didn’t know that she wasn’t around at the time, answers “love”.

Nadja Dee | 6/26/2007, 10:28 pm EST

I hated that Larry King played up this HUGE FINALE to the show, only to have them enter the Cirque tent. Sure, if I was in the theater…it would have been exciting. But how about Paul & Ringo performing an unreleased John Lennon song (Perhaps “Now And Then) together and having Dahni Harrison, Julian Lennon & Sean Lennon as back-up singers?

DeadHorse | 6/26/2007, 9:41 pm EST

Did RS call the pinching question, or what? It’s too bad the album reviews couldn’t be as “on the money”

Brady | 6/26/2007, 9:30 pm EST

I cannot believe it. Larry King actually asked the pinching question! AND - he accidentily referred to Ringo as “George”!!! Unbelievable. I think it’s time for Larry to retire.

Spencer | 6/26/2007, 9:22 pm EST

And he asked the pinching question!!

Boatman | 6/26/2007, 9:18 pm EST

Ask Paul if he ever complimented John on any of his songs and which ones.

Boatman | 6/26/2007, 9:13 pm EST

Ringo didn’t stumble into the Beatles. He was the only one chosen by all the rest. John chose Paul. Paul chose George. But they all chose Ringo

spence | 6/26/2007, 8:53 pm EST

I also wouldn’t be surprised if Larry asked them about Frank Sinatra for no reason.

ellejaye | 6/26/2007, 8:19 pm EST

I would like Larry to ask Sir Paul when he bacame aware of the scrambled “Memory Almost Full” stating :For my soul mate LLM? Both titles seem so appropriate at this point in his life.

Rusty | 6/26/2007, 7:44 pm EST

Yoko, what note is this?

Seriously, do you have any fucking idea what note this is, give or take a few full steps?

Well, what is it, Yoko?

WHAT’S THE FUCKING NOTE!!!

Chris? | 6/26/2007, 7:41 pm EST

Immortal Shame, you are hilarious.

As for questions, ask the following, Mr. King:

“Do you all REALLY want to be here together, or are the Cirque du Soleil people forcing you?”

And another thing: WHERE THE BLAZES IS GEORGE MARTIN?

farrah | 6/26/2007, 7:36 pm EST

yo, immortal shame

clapton liked pattie boyd, not olivia harrison.

chasingheathercrazy | 6/26/2007, 7:26 pm EST

Q: Yoko, when do you think John would’ve eventually opened his eyes to see you for the fraud and swindler you really are?

Josh | 6/26/2007, 7:12 pm EST

The best Beatles interview was on The Chris Farley Show.

Chris: “Remember when you were in the Beatles?”

Paul: “Yes.”

Chris: “That was AWESOME!”

Brandon | 6/26/2007, 6:49 pm EST

“Yoko, Olivia, Ringo, could you please leave the room while I talk to Paul, arguably the world’s greatest living songwriter?”

seamus Donnelly | 6/26/2007, 6:46 pm EST

“Yoko, …WHAT THE FUCK?!”

Baked Chocodile | 6/26/2007, 6:37 pm EST

To Ringo: Is the character ‘Turtle’, from Entourage, a modern-day twist of yourself?

To Paul: Who was more jealous - John of your looks or you of John’s songwriting

david c | 6/26/2007, 6:37 pm EST

Are the Beatles getting back together?
Just kidding.
I would like to know what new bands they like to listen to and which ones they think come closest to being as influential as the Beatles.

Baked Chocodile | 6/26/2007, 6:37 pm EST

To Ringo: Is the character ‘Turtle’, from Entourage, a modern-day twist of yourself?

To Paul: Who was more jealous - John of your looks of you of John’s songwriting

joe | 6/26/2007, 6:27 pm EST

hey how do you know there wasnt any reunion attempt in ‘76? where you there? if youre so sure go on larry king and debunk the rumor yourself ass.

The immortal shame | 6/26/2007, 6:01 pm EST

Dear Sir Paul,
What was it like having sex with a female pogostick?

Dear Ringo?
WTF? Get a job, you slouch.

Dear Yoko,
Have you ever thought about having a love child with Kim Jong Il? That would be the most evil child in the world!

Dear Olivia,
What’s Eric Clapton like in bed?

Jon | 6/26/2007, 5:53 pm EST

Who sucks more The White Stripes or Bjork?

Little Oscar | 6/26/2007, 5:47 pm EST

I would just ask Larry to thank Ringo for laying down the best grooves in rock history. Simple, but solid. Case in point — the first All-Starr Band tour: Ringo, Jim Keltner, Levon Helm. It was like being run over by a truck!

Marc | 6/26/2007, 5:46 pm EST

Does Ringo and Paul think that The Beatles are overhyped?

mike | 6/26/2007, 5:41 pm EST

“Ringo, how does it feel to have stumbled blindly into the greatest band of all time? Any guilt?”

Rob J. | 6/26/2007, 5:33 pm EST

I love the Beatles, but if Paul tells that same ‘Scrambled Eggs’ story, about writing Yesterday again, I won’t be able to handle it.

Toki | 6/26/2007, 5:18 pm EST

what do the remaining members of The Beatles think of todays rock music

Oddjob | 6/26/2007, 5:16 pm EST

Why is everyone so concerned about the Beatles on iTunes? You can buy the CD! Is everyone really that anxious to buy “Helter Skelter” with Paypal instead of cash?

What we SHOULD be concerned about is getting the music remastered on CD, which is LONG overdue. Do you realize that the Sgt. Pepper CD is as old now (20 years) as the album itself was when the CD first came out?

As for questions for the Beatles, ask them about the inspiration that they drew from each other that was unique to that band and made them that much more special (and don’t let Paul answer with the same old story about writing “Getting Better” and John chiming in with “couldn’t get no worse”)
