
- Will Morrissey return to Warner Bros., the record label he left in 1995? It’s at least a possibility, the former Smiths frontman says. “I presently have the option to tour for the remainder of 2007, or start a new album,” he said in a question and answer session for fans. “I don’t have a deal, but I have an offer from Warner Bros.”
- Neil Young is making us all wait a little longer for the first volume of his much-anticipated Archives series, which will feature eight audio CDs and four DVDs of unheard material. The first installment was set to come out this fall, but has been moved to spring 2008.
- Thurston Moore is set to release Trees Outside The Academy, his first official solo album since 1995’s Psychic Hearts this September. The record was recorded in J Mascis’ studio.
- In response to the fact that The Donnas‘ last record, 2004’s Gold Medal, sold substantially less (87,000) than their previous album (2002’s Spend the Night sold 424,000) the band has left Atlantic to start their own label. The band will release its yet-untitled sixth album in September, on this now-nameless label.
- After thrilling his fans with secret shows in London and New York, Paul McCartney will play a “surprise” show at Amoeba Records in Hollywood tomorrow, June 27.
- Live Earth organizers have moved the South Africa concert to a more central venue after lagging ticket sales were partially blamed on concert-goers’ difficulty getting to the previous venue, which is located 45 minutes outside of Johannesburg. Now the show will take place at the city’s 18,000-capacity Coca-Cola Dome.
- Today thousands of Internet radio stations have gone silent for twenty-four hours in protest of a recently announced hike in the royalty rates they pay to play music on their sites.
