6/25/07, 6:18 pm EST

Karen O

Remember when we told you about that exciting new Yeah Yeah Yeahs EP, Is Is? We imagined it would be awesome, and now we have evidence to support this claim: Stream the elegant, sneering serenade “Down Boy,” one of five super-rare YYYs tracks to appear on the EP, as many times as you want, right here. Is Is comes out July 24.

I predict this will be like when the White Stripes album was previewed, and it was the second coming of Christ. They followed that up with another courageous 3.5 star review, which oddly complained that the album wasn’t poppy yet has the highest charting single the Stripes have ever released.

Matt said it all.

T-Nasty | 6/25/2007, 9:47 pm EST

lol at Matt’s comment. Pitchfork media had to pick up the slack with its 8.0113251111repeating/10.00 rating

They did the same thing to the Ryan Adams album … they said it was so good that they were going to pipe it through their restrooms … then they gave it a safe 3.5 star review. Grow some balls … 5 star reviews aren’t only for old guys releasing tripe half as good as their classic stuff. Why does anyone read this magazine anymore? It’s all about advertising dollars and pretty girls. I think Pitchfork is a bunch of kiddies running around with thick-framed glasses, but at least they still have some guts.

It has to do with the reviewer guys. If that sheffield guy had his way with icky thump, it would have gotten 4 to 4 1/2 stars easy. But they had some other dude do it, one who is most likely more cautious with his star output.
Oh, and RS also gave a 3 1/2 star review to both arcade fire and modest mouse this year. And then they said that arcade fire had one of the best albums of the year. bastards.

Karen O is my hero! I so love this band. This is definately now my song of the summer

Jon | 6/26/2007, 10:25 am EST

Why is it that I find out from a site like ultimate-guitar.com that Led Zeppelin is doing reunion show in London to honor Ahmet Ertegun and you’re running a story about the YYYs? You’re slipping RS…

Well Sheffield gave the Wilbury’s set 2/5. so i wouldn’t trust anything he says about music. Icky Thump is great. Therefore, he probably would have given it a 2 1/2.

Brittany | 6/26/2007, 10:54 am EST

I wish I was Karen O. She is amazing at singing and is bad ass.

Str8 Ej | 6/26/2007, 11:20 am EST

This a FIVE STAR record! (according to Jenny Eliscu, who like, idolizes that ugly singer chick).
Read more about it after THE JUMP.

Why is noone talking about Nick Zinner’s contribution in that band? The guy can play sort of well, if you look at his arrangements of melody.. He is like the square root of Jimmy Page + Robert Smith on he axe, I say.. The drummer Chase also adds a distinct feel to their sound – it’s not only about how beautific the singing is from the busted girl up front!

I LOVE this song and band. Thank you for posting the song link. I’m already making my co-workers crazy with the continuos replay.

Smitty | 6/26/2007, 12:30 pm EST

This song is off the chain

Johnny Kickass | 6/26/2007, 12:49 pm EST

This is how their review system works:

3 stars means its godawful crap.
3.5 stars means its awesome.

Andrew C | 6/26/2007, 3:25 pm EST

Finally. Rolling Stone and I actually agree on a band. Down Boy rules

Guillermo | 6/26/2007, 6:26 pm EST

Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Yes Yes Yes!!!

Odys Coltrane | 6/27/2007, 11:57 am EST

This band shot their load on their first EP, which is a masterpiece. Everything that’s followed has been garbage, including this. Try less wispy vocals, more screaming and rage.

Comment_Boy | 7/11/2007, 8:55 am EST

I think some of the chords sound quite similar to Franz Ferdinand’s “Take Me Out”; just slower and so on.
Does anyone share this opinion with me?
