Al Gore Responds To Bob Geldof’s Live Earth Criticism, Britney’s Pissed At Clear Channel, And More

6/19/07, 9:06 am EST

  • A radio station in Florida is using Britney Spears‘ bald, enraged likeness to advertize their wacky morning show and Britney is pissed. The pop star had her lawyers send Clear Channel (which, shock of all shocks, owns the station) a threatening letter, which promises that should the station ignore Team Britney demands that the billboards be removed, it does so “at its peril.”
  • Al Gore has responded to Live Aid organizer Bob Geldof’s complaint that Gore’s Live Earth event lacks specific goals. “We will have very specific goals that will be very significant and hard-hitting. We will announce those before the concert then emphasize them heavily during the concert,” Gore explained. Then he soothed Geldof’s ego: “These concerts would not be possible in any way without the pioneering and creativity of Geldof and those who helped him.”
  • Smashing Pumpkins will perform on TV for the first time since 2000 when they play twice on the Late Show with David Letterman, once on Monday July 9 and again that week on Friday July 13 in honor of the July 10 release of their new album Zeitgeist.
  • Paolo Nutini and Amy Winehouse will co-headline a US tour beginning early this fall, on September 12th, with a show at New York’s Summer Stage.
  • Ludacris‘ career as a film star continues to evolve as the rapper has accepted another role. This time he will appear alongside Emilie De Ravin, Nick Cannon, and Rosanna Arquette among others in the indie flick about basketball, Ball Don’t Lie.

cota | 6/19/2007, 10:23 am EST

hey Jacab, google the name you are asking about,,,,Bob has his place in (pop) history, or watch “The Wall”,,,,pretty cool!!!

matt | 6/19/2007, 10:26 am EST

who gives a toss about the pumpkins

w0nderwall | 6/19/2007, 10:36 am EST

I wonder if Al Gore will stop flying everywhere in his private jet and start flying in regular commercial flights with regular people…this guy is just mentally messed up. I’m going to be laughing when everyone sees how many people are going to be pissed when they see how much money Gore is making off hippies, junkies, and celebrities.

Jacob | 6/19/2007, 10:43 am EST

Sorry Cota, ‘had a place in Pop history’ Live Aid was over 20 years ago.

DoomsdayClock666 | 6/19/2007, 10:56 am EST

I give a toss about the Pumpkins, tosser!

abandonedstation | 6/19/2007, 11:02 am EST

Just back from Bonnaroo, RS! Excellent fucking show, apart from the dust (in that way, it was bizarro-woodstock. We were begging for the rain this time).

Anyway, the news…

Bob Geldof’s career has been running on twenty two year old fumes. why the fuck is he ragging on any attempt to promote awareness of global warming? it’s a more important issue than the poverty in africa. Besides, what was the goal of Live Eight in 2005? To remind people that Africa is still living in poverty? What kind of fucking goal is that?

Can we please stop calling ‘Billy Corgan and Friends’ the Smashing Pumpkins? I have a feeling this reunion will be as successful as the one Jane’s Addiction tried…

Do rappers lose street cred when they start doing movies? I know Ice Cube has because of ‘Are We There Yet?’…kind of shows how much power money really carries. Do rappers ask themselves: Do I have to maintain my integrity and keep fans for a long time and make my money that way, or should I just collect a fast paycheck by making shitty movies?

Jeff | 6/19/2007, 12:04 pm EST

w0nderwall – Al Gore buys off-sets from responsible companies that produce less carbon emissions than are currently mandated by the U.S. If we put a cap-and-tax on carbon emissions we could all fly in airplanes AND reduce global warming. Sounds terrible, right? Get your facts straight before ripping on Al Gore simply because you ‘don’t like him.’ There’s no use for empty rhetoric like that.

kid A from Africa | 6/19/2007, 12:10 pm EST

Bob Geldof???
I’m still hungry!!!
And that shite song of yours(in fact the only song of yours) “I don’t like Mondays”…
…well, I don’t like it.
Shut your arrogant cake hole and bring me a sandwich.

Timroc | 6/19/2007, 12:52 pm EST

Wake up call. Al flies commercial, so does Leo. Very much unlike Sean Hannity who rips these two at every opportunity yet flies ONLY on a specific type of private jet. Hip-Ah-Crazy.

tyler | 6/19/2007, 1:28 pm EST

Mr. Gore and his family have made money polluting mother earth. He is not my guru on anything! The reporters keep us in the dark! They will sell us out.Because, they need to be in the circle of the star’s.Instead of reporting on the facts!Truth is forgotten!

Al Gore | 6/19/2007, 1:52 pm EST

I invented the Internet.

AlGoreFan | 6/19/2007, 2:16 pm EST

w0nderwall,
Are you delirious or just another conservatard smear machine? Gore flies commercial and doesn’t have a private jet. Is everyone that threatens your ideology “mentally Messed up?” Educate yourself and find out that Gore makes nothing from Live Earth. Sad that you call concert-goers that want to help the environment “hippies, junkies, and celebrities.” Sad but expected from conservatard smear machines. SOS – Save Our Selves!

w0nderwall | 6/19/2007, 3:13 pm EST

Al Gore-The Money Making Machine. He’s a politician, not a savior. I can’t believe people are actually behind this guy. It’s just as stupid as Bush going to war with Iraq. These modern-day politicos don’t do anything unless they get something back in return, either money or power, or in many cases, both. But do what you wish and believe what you want. I’ll have my opinions, you can have yours.

Al Gore | 6/19/2007, 3:25 pm EST

I love sheep.

cota | 6/19/2007, 3:32 pm EST

Hey Jacob, what are you sorry for?
(20 years ago IS history, duh!) (And “The Wall” was 26 years ago, again, this makes it history, duh)
Jeeesh,, have an opinion, but do you have to be a sarcastic twit??

T-Nasty | 6/19/2007, 3:45 pm EST

Live 8 came to Philly and I had to go, because I used to live next to the Art Museum. What a crock of shit that was. The neighborhood was trashed, kids got arrested for sitting on cars, and celebrities made themselves look good by talking about Africa. Bob can shut the hell up.

It´s my birthday (07.07.07) | 6/19/2007, 5:16 pm EST

Bob Geldof is a Saint. Al Gore is not yet a Saint, but he is working on it……… Please get Pink Floyd to perform again and instead of playing their hits, they should play Syd Barret´s songs

Jim | 6/19/2007, 5:36 pm EST

The globe is warming up, and look how well we all get along!

GC | 6/19/2007, 7:22 pm EST

i love bob geldof and his substantial humanitarian causes.

pureproduct | 6/20/2007, 1:20 pm EST

“It’s just as stupid as Bush going to war with Iraq.”

Something tells me all those dead people might disagree.

Tipper'sCameltoe | 7/7/2007, 3:46 pm EST

Don’t let even a basic understanding of economics cloud your fantasy world there, Jeff.

If Al or the rest of you ignorant sheep really cared about the environment, you’d kill yourselves.

Seriously.

julia | 7/9/2007, 9:37 am EST

Want facts?! If you look at Al Gore’s family history you would see that most of his family’s money is made from oil and other Bush/Cheney ways of making money. This Live Earth concert is a nice thought, but I am sure there is money to be made by everone involved!

Thomas Cook | 7/9/2007, 7:40 pm EST

Can we please get someone in the mainstream media to stop following blindly and do their home work. Everone is tip toeing around the issue at hand and your readers do too. Great movements are based on righting a wrong i.e. racism, womens suffrage … not taking away peoples rights based on “feelings” not science. The people who do buy into all this crap claim to be intellectuals but they are the Catholic church of the middle ages. If you disagree with them and use logic and actual science as your reason then you are stupid and naive and worse yet need to be tied to the stake and be tortured.
They can not explain there rational for the human element in global warming because they have “no” and I will repeat this and dare you to prove me wrong without cutsie sayings and greenpeace fake numbers but with true hard science “No” evidence. They completely discount any of the 100’s if not thousands of cyclical tempature changes in the earths history
I am amazed with the arogance and the lack of any research by the media into the so called science behind this doomsday garbage, or the people who follow blindly. I had the opportunity to be at the research facilities at the South Pole a few years back and the schlock science that receives grants is amazing, they base the studies on assumptions that no legitamate scientist would jump to and get the answers they want to support their premise.
I do not deny the earth is warming but it is the utmost arrogance to presume that we have caused it. The scientific evidence is anything but convincing and the computer modeling is bogus. Meteorologist can’t even get a 7 day forecast right, yet they claim to have evaluated all the variables (they do not even understand what all of them are)for the warming of the earth over decades.

Now I will dismiss Al Gore and his ridiculus “do as I say not as I do mentality”. he has an electric bill and energy usage that would make any average middle class person cringe from the bill. He spends more on energy-fossil fuels in a year then most people make in ten years of hard work. He is like the fat guy who goes to the fast food joint and orders the triple cheese burger with bacon and super size fries and gets a diet coke and thinks he has made some sort of progress on his diet or by putting in a fluorecent bulb he has made a contribution to mankind, oh sorry that’s not right humans do not come into this religion of global warming we are the evil destroyers of all that is good and should perish for the good of Gaia. He is a huge fraud and anyone with a brain can see it. The press love him and question nothing, I can’t see why such a huge scam is being foisted on the public without any legitimate debate and I would like to know the true agenda.

Please people listen to a voice of reason because I do not believe it is being put out to the general public. All I ask of people is do not follow blindly into the depths of this religious ideology. Do your own research check out the real facts and make your decisions based on the evidence that is available, there is plenty of it. Even the doomsday people admit they do not understand all the reasons for the warming cycle but they discount the findings that disagree with the premise that they are working to prove.
Most of us would call the quote “creationist scientist” a fraud because he tries to prove a conclusion instead of allowing the evidence and findings to lead to a hypothosis and conclusion. Well that has become the norm for the climate change groups.
They have the answer and anything that contradicts this has to be discounted.
Al Gore calls us that doubt him and his crusade the flat earthers, well he is acting just like the Church with Galilao. How dare anyone question his almighty conclusions and we had better knuckle under or he will send out the climate police to force feed his garbage to us. Then he can get the government to tax everyone for the their “carbon Footprint” so they can spend billions on educating us “to the one and only truth.”
The next step will be censorship of any disenting voice. They have already started this crap by calling people global warming deniers You should understand that when someones agument to his way of thinking is to call those who disagree “stupid” and that cannot articulate a a coherant and persuasive argument based on “fact” for his opinion that it needs to be looked at with suspicion. Realize when people put out numbers like they do taht 2000 scientists have come to consensus and don’t tell you that they are not even scientist studying in the field of macro climatology and that there is to many variables for just one scientific discipline and to this date not one comprehensive study of climate change has even been attempted. The fact is they have come to conclusions based on wisps of ether and are heading over the edge of the earth. When people try to stifle debate and tell you that they have all the facts and that we have no right to question the conclusions because we are stupid and they are smart we are heading down the wrong road.
